Musical Line Up for ‘Garden Rocks’ Concert Series at the 2018 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival

This year, the 25th event year at 2018 Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival, the Garden Rocks series features singers and groups from the ‘60s, ‘70s, ‘80s, ‘90s, and 2000s. Many of these hit-makers ranging in a variety of genres including rock, pop, country, R&B, and dance. There are over 7 favorite artists whose hits span more than five decades!

There will be brand new acts taking the stage such as country favorites Lonestar, British rock legends Foghat; and Don Felder, formerly of The Eagles – along with returning treasures disco pioneers Village People and ‘80s supergroups like Night Ranger.

There are also a couple of artists that have played other Epcot festivals like Survivor, Smash Mouth and Rick Springfield, who are joining us for Garden Rocks this year.

Garden Rocks performances are at America Gardens Theatre at 5:30, 6:45 and 8 p.m. every Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday of the Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival and are included with Epcot admission.

Iron Man recently joined forces with Marvel (and Disney) Legend Stan Lee at Hong Kong Disneyland. Together they battled against the evil forces of Hydra across the city of Hong Kong in the Iron Man Experience attraction.

I have a happy follow up of some Disney magic to report from a story we covered back in August.

On August 22, Robert Leibowitz traveled to the Magic Kingdom to celebrate his 60th birthday with his family including five children. Leibowtitz also suffers from a kidney infection that he developed when he was 12 years old.

While visiting, he wore a shirt with, “In need of a kidney – O positive – Call 917-597-2651,” on it. Rocio Sandoval was also at the Magic Kingdom on August 22 and saw Leibowitz and posted the picture to her Facebook page. The post went viral and was shared over 80,000 times.

Several people who saw the post reached out to Leibowitz. However, none of them were matches. That is until Richie Sully saw the post and decided to take action since he had the same blood type as Leibowitz.

Sully, as a father himself related to having kids and being around for them, jumped on a 14 hour bus ride from Indiana to see if he was a match. And, luckily, he was!

The kidney transplant is scheduled for January 18, 2018.

ESPN President and Co-Chairman of Disney Media Networks Steps Down

John Skipper, ESPN President and Co-Chairman of Disney Media Networks has stepped down. Skipper cited substance addiction issues behind the reason of his decision in the following statement sent out to employees yesterday:

“I have struggled for many years with a substance addiction. I have decided that the most important thing I can do right now is to take care of my problem. … I come to this public disclosure with embarrassment, trepidation and a feeling of having let others I care about down.”

Skipper originally joined ESPN in 1997 as senior vice president and general manager of ESPN The Magazine prior to stints at Rolling Stone and US. Skipper was tapped as ESPN President and Co-Chairman of Disney Media Networks in 2012.

While a search is on to fill Skipper’s role, George Bodenheimer will serve as acting chairman. Bodenheimer previously carried the title of ESPN president from 1998 to 2011. In addition, he was also executive chairman util 2014. Bodenheimer will assist Bob Iger in finding a long-term replacement for Skipper.

Online reports indicate that ESPN might be looking internally for candidates to fill Skipper’s position. Along with Bodenheimer, potential candidates are Connor Shell and Justin Connolly. Shell currently oversees programming at ESPN and has headed up ESPN’s film division. Connolly is the company’s distribution chief.

Disney CEO, Bob Iger, released the following statement:

“I join John Skipper’s many friends and colleagues across the company in wishing him well during this challenging time. I respect his candor and support his decision to focus on his health and his family.”

With Christmas gone, it’s time to say goodbye to 2017 and welcome in 2018. We all know that Disney World and Disneyland can throw a great New Years Eve bash but let’s take a look at how Disney Parks around the world welcome in the New Year.

The New Year’s Eve Party at Disneyland Paris will be a dazzling affair celebrating the greatest hits of 2017. Along with favorite attractions, a special Incredible New Year’s Eve Parade combines the most memorable parade moments this year, including Halloween, Christmas and the 25th Anniversary Disney Stars on Parade.

Mickey’s Christmas Big Band will perform smooth jazz and your favorite characters will dance the night away at Goofy’s New Year’s Eve Dance Party. When the clock strikes twelve, the sky will be filled with a cascade of light and color during the New Year Celebration Fireworks. It will truly be an unforgettable way to toast 2018.

Tokyo Disney Resort will ring in the Year of the Dog during a five-day celebration. You won’t want to miss the New Year’s Greeting parade at Tokyo Disneyland or the harbor show at Tokyo DisneySea, which feature Mickey, Minnie and Pluto. You can also try plenty of Pluto-themed treats around the resort.

If you haven’t yet visited Shanghai Disney Resort’s enchanted Christmas celebration or Hong Kong Disneyland’s A Disney Christmas, don’t fret – you have until January 1st to experience both seasonal offerings. Hong Kong Disneyland will also stage its finale Disney in the Stars fireworks show on January 1st as the castle prepares for a magical transformation, and new merchandise is available for guests to commemorate the special occasion. Disney has released its first trailer this morning for its upcoming 2018 holiday feature film “The Nutcracker and the Four Realms”. All I can say is that it looks amazing! Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world.
