Check Out This First Look at Disneyland After Dark Commemorative Merchandise

Disneyland fans heading to the special After Dark Throwback Nite which will be held on January 18th will definitely want to set aside a bit of money in your Disney budget to snap up some of the amazing event merchandise that will be on offer.

Disneyland shared a sneak peek of some of the items that will be on offer via tweet.  Check it out:

 

Disneyland After Dark – Throwback Nite invites guests to come dressed up and be magically transported to the Disneyland of the 50’s and 60’s.  Guests can dance the night away in this special ticketed event that runs until 1am. Disneyland will also showcase original attraction posters and will be offering special photo ops with unlimited digital downloads. Visitors will also receive a commemorative lanyard with admission as well as a vintage-inspired park map that will pinpoint the special happenings taking place throughout the evening.

The night will end with a BANG! with an exclusive showing of the “Fantasy in the Sky” fireworks.

Tickets for Throwback Nite are still available and can be booked at Disneyland.com

'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3' Has Been Confirmed

James Gunn, director of the first two Guardians of the Galaxy along with the upcoming trilogy-capper, recently held a Q&A session on his Twitter. He was asked by fans about the upcoming third Guardians installment and when it will be released. Gunn responded that Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released in 2020.

*Cue the excitement*

No word of an official release date just yet, but it’s possible it will be May 1st, August 7th, or November 1st.

Maleficent 2 Has Entered Pre-Production with Filming Set to Begin in the Spring

Filming is set to start April 16th in London.

Director Joachim Rønning, co-director of “Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales” is said to be spearheading the film!

A release date has not be given.

D23 Members Can be Among the First to Experience Disney’s Frozen on Broadway

D23 Member tickets for Frozen on Broadway

Members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club can be among the first to experience  Disney’s Frozen on Broadway with special ticket packages during opening weekend!

D23 has a limited number of tickets for seats in Front Orchestra and Front Mezzanine for members to purchase. They are offering select members a VIP Frozen Experience—including Premium Orchestra seats, a behind-the-scenes Broadway workshop, and a Frozen-inspired dinner in Midtown.  This experience is very limited!

Tickets are available for the 8 p.m. performance of Disney’s Frozen at the St. James Theatre on March 24, 2018. Check-in will begin at 7:15 p.m. Members who purchase tickets will receive a confirmation email with ticket pick-up instructions.

The D23 VIP Frozen Experience, includes Premium Orchestra seats, a behind-the-scenes Broadway workshop, and a Frozen-inspired dinner in Midtown.  Again, this will be available for a very limited number of members.

The VIP experience will begin with “The Art of Puppetry” workshop in a Broadway Rehearsal Studio. This will be a 90-minute behind-the-scenes workshop that will allow guests to view the puppetry in “The Lion King” and explore how puppets can enrich a story and make the impossible possible on stage. This is an interactive workshop so attendees will get to experiment with different puppetry techniques and discover how to bring puppets to life themselves.

There will be a brief break (on foot) in Midtown where guests can enjoy the Disney Store in Times Square and take advantage of  the D23-exclusive discount.  Attendees will also be free to explore on their oown.

The experience will continue at a beautiful New York City restaurant, where attendees will enjoy a delicious Frozen-inspired dinner. Following dinner, the group will walk to the St. James Theatre and be seated in Premium Orchestra-level seats (located in one of the first eight Orchestra Center rows) for the show.

Ticket prices are as follows:

  • Front Mezzanine tickets are $225 (plus $5 processing fee) per person.
  • Front Orchestra tickets are $250 (plus $5 processing fee) per person.
  • VIP Frozen Experience Tickets are $500 (plus a $5 processing free) per person.

All D23 attendees will receive a commemorative Disney’s Frozen on Broadway keepsake. VIP Frozen experience guests will also receive a VIP-exclusive D23 keepsake created just for the event!

Tickets will go on sale Tuesday, January 23, at 1 p.m. ET (10 a.m PT).  Please visit this page for an update that will include a link to purchase tickets.

A few things to note directly from D23:

  • D23 Gold and Gold Family Members may reserve a ticket for themselves and one (1) guest.
  • D23 Members will be required to provide their membership number and the names of the guests attending when reserving tickets.
  • Due to the nature of the VIP Frozen experience, all guests attending this portion of the event must be 18 years of age or older.
  • The VIP Frozen Experience does not include transportation, and guests will walk to and from each location rain or shine.
  • Tickets must be picked up only with a valid photo ID AND D23 MEMBERSHIP CARD. D23 Members who do not bring their membership card may not be admitted to the event. Ticketed members who do not attend the event forfeit their place, as well as all experiences and benefits.
  • Gifts are distributed during D23 Member events only; those who do not attend will not be eligible to receive the event amenities.
  • All D23 Special Events are subject to change without notice. There are no cancellations or refunds, and tickets are not transferable. Photography and recording of any kind will not be permitted during the presentation and workshop and Broadway production.
  • PLEASE BE ADVISED: Filming, photography, and other recording will take place at the Broadway Studio, St. James Theatre, and New York restaurant during the event you will be attending. By entering the premises, you irrevocably consent to and authorize The Walt Disney Company, its affiliates, successors, and assigns (collectively “Producer”), to photograph you, make sound recordings of you, and use such photographs and recordings throughout the world, for any purpose whatsoever in perpetuity, including, but not limited to, television broadcasts and home entertainment products, including, but not limited to, home video and DVD. Marvel Studios’ “Black Panther” follows T’Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T’Challa’s mettle as king—and Black Panther—is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

“Black Panther” stars Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, Martin Freeman, Daniel Kaluuya, Letitia Wright, Winston Duke, with Angela Bassett, with Forest Whitaker, and Andy Serkis.

The film is directed by Ryan Coogler and produced by Kevin Feige with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Nate Moore, Jeffrey Chernov and Stan Lee serving as executive producers. Ryan Coogler & Joe Robert Cole wrote the screenplay.

Disney Channel Announces 'Andi Mack' Interactive Programming Event

Disney Channel has announced an evening of interactive television viewing for fans of their popular TV series “Andi Mack”. “Andi Mack Live Play” airs on Monday, January 15 (8:00 pm EST/PST) and gives viewers a chance to test their skills with games and quizzes.

The event takes place during a new episode of “Andi Mack,” airing simultaneously on the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel, and followed by a special telecast with the stars of the show, “Andi Mack Cast Party” (8:30 p.m., EST/PST), on Disney Channel. Leaderboards and poll results for the “Andi Mack Live Play” quizzes, trivia, polls and other elements will be shown on DisneyNOW in real time for both the East and West Coast transmissions of the new episode.

Kimberly Hicks, vice president, Digital Media, Disney Channels, said, “We’re increasingly employing our app technology in creative ways to meet the expectations of our young viewers who enjoy participating in polls, stretching their knowledge with trivia and games, and reaching the next level of achievement all while simultaneously being entertained through their favorite stories and characters on TV.”

The DisneyNOW app [http://DisneyNOW.com] is available to all and has the most comprehensive collection of the newest and best content from Disney Channel, Disney XD, Disney Junior and Radio Disney. Fans can use DisneyNOW to access full episodes of their favorite Disney Channels television shows on demand for free anytime, anywhere on their desktop, smartphone, tablet or connected TV devices. Viewers who sign in with a participating pay-TV provider can also watch a live 24-hour feed of the respective network and access exclusive programming events.

“Andi Mack Live Play” is the eighth Live Play programming event in the past 18 months on Disney Channel. The amount of users tripled for the most recent event, a “Descendants 2 Live Play” in October, with more than 6 million votes cast during the event.

Season to date, “Andi Mack” is cable TV’s #1 series among Kids 9-14, Girls 6-11, Girls 6-14 and Girls 9-14 (Live + 7 Day National ratings*). It is also the #1 series streaming on the DisneyNOW app**.

The “Andi Mack Cast Party” special features Peyton Elizabeth Lee, Sofia Wylie, Joshua Rush, Asher Angel, Lilan Bowden, Emily Skinner and Trent Garrett. Asher Angel also performs an acoustic version of the series theme song “Tomorrow Starts Today,” which will be available on the DisneyNOW app and Disney Channel YouTube immediately following the special. Angel made his recording artist debut in November with the single “Snow Globe Wonderland.” Its music video has more than 3.3 million views on DisneyMusicVEVO.

 

Could a Star Wars Lightsaber Experience Be Coming To Galaxy’s Edge?

Spectrum News 13 in Florida, recently ran a piece about  a very interesting patent application filed by Disney which may hint at another out-of-this-world visitor experience heading to the new Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge land that is slated to open in Hollywood Studios in 2019.

The patent is titled “systems and methods for augmenting an appearance of a hilt to simulate a bladed weapon.” and was originally filed back in September of 2017.

The patent included an overlay image that was being used to create the blade portion of the weapon (see above).  The overlay proposed would be designed in a way that would give the appearance of a blade being attached at the hilt.  It is then indicated that this implementation is designed to create an image seen through an augmented reality headset.

The document states that ” In some implementations, the display may include one or more head-mounted displays and that the technology could be configured for a range of different types of experiences.  The document goes on to state that weapons used could be “a broadsword, an axe, or a katana,”

So what does this mean for Star Wars fans? In Spectrum’s piece, they see a correlation between this patent and another patent that Disney published back in 2016 for an “audience interaction projection system.”  The description of this patent suggested that under the system guests would be able to deflect laser beams in real time using weapons.  The description of the patent goes further in suggesting a Star Wars connection describing the project as creating an entertainment environment where faux lightsabers will interact with drones flying through the air.  It goes on to say that the weapons will give visitors the sensation that beams are being deflected.

Readers should also note that Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire opened at Downton Disney in Disneyland and at Disney Springs this past month which may also give visitors a taste of Star Wars things to come.  Secrets of the Empire is a first-of-its-kind immersive experience that transports guests deep into the Star Wars universe and allows guests to walk freely and untethered through a multi-sensory experience.  Here’s a quick look.

Disney and its collaborators are definitely exploring the ways the technology can be used to provide new state-of-the-art visitor experiences.  It will be interesting to see how these patents and experiences like Secrets of the Empire come into play in the year ahead.

An emergency threat of a ballistic missile heading for Hawaii was issued earlier today that fortunately turned out to be false. This alert came via smartphone to those on the islands.

This massive mistake reportedly prompted Guests staying at Disney’s Hawaiian resort Aulani to be evacuated outside to a nearby field during the threat.  At this time it is unclear as to why Guests were ushered outside instead of taking shelter.
