Refillable Soap Dispensers Coming to More Disney World Resorts

Refillable Soap Dispensers Coming to More Disney World Resorts

Looks like Disney is doing away with the small toiletry soaps at more Disney World resorts. Pop Century is reported to be getting the refillable soap and shampoo dispensers sometime this week. No word as to when or if other Disney World resorts will be getting them. But I assume they will be rolling out eventually.

Enchanted Sequel Almost has a Finished Script

Enchanted Sequel Almost has a Finished Script

Sounds like Adam Shankman has had “Happy Working Song” on repeat: At a Television Critics Association panel, the director for the Enchanted sequel, Disenchanted, revealed that we’re getting closer to seeing Gisele again.

“We are handing in a script in a couple weeks that I’m super happy with. Then gotta get the music written,” he said.

According to Shankman, Disenchanted will have about the same amount of animation as the first film, but there will be more songs (hopefully as catchy and delightful as the iconic Central Park-set “That’s How You Know”).

A sequel for the 2007 romantic comedy starring Amy Adams and Patrick Dempsey has been in the works for a decade. “The fundamental story has changed a little bit, but not from the base story of it,” Shankman said. “It’s about Giselle 10 years later going, ‘What is happily ever after?’”

The original film followed Giselle as she stumbles from an animated Disney movie into real-world New York, slowly realizing that her one true love might actually be Dempsey’s grumpy divorce lawyer character and not the Prince Charming (James Marsden) she thought was her happily ever after. “They’re absolutely wrong,” the Enchanted director, Kevin Lima, told EW about people who still ship Giselle and her animated prince. “Because it is about a woman who grows past the small world where she came from and becomes a more fully formed person. So she can’t stay where she was, she can’t get married to the person she met that she decided to marry in a single day.”

No release date for Disenchanted has been announced.

After Nearly a Decade-long Legal Battle a Man has Settled his Injury Lawsuit Against Disney

After Nearly a Decade-long Legal Battle a Man has Settled his Injury Lawsuit Against Disney

After years of fighting, Dave Peterson and his son, Owen, from Virginia, are finally feeling some relief.

In 2006, Owen, who was 22 at the time, sustained an injury walking around a trade show at Walt Disney World’s ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex. Owen was there as a competitor in a paintball tournament, but two days prior to the competition a 10-foot advertising balloon labeled “Crossfire” struck him in the head.

The blow was hard enough that Peterson was knocked to his knees.  He was left dizzy and in pain. According to Owen, a Disney manager told him to get checked out at a hospital and his medical bills would be covered by Disney. After his hospital visit, X-ray results showed no broken bones and no neurological damage was discovered.  Peterson was given prescriptions for muscle relaxers and pain medication and told he could still participate in the paintball tournament.

While he experienced some stiffness, Peterson played in the tournament.  After leaving the tournament, the headaches and neck pain persisted and in the end he was given a very different diagnosis then the one he received the day of the injury.  He was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome. Before playing, he signed a liability waiver, similar to the ones given out at entertainment venues and sports events. After leaving the tournament, Peterson still had headaches and neck pain – ultimately, he was diagnosed with a traumatic brain injury and post-concussion syndrome.

Before playing in the tournament, Owen had signed a liability waiver that is similar to those given out at entertainment venues and sports events.  When he reached out to Disney regarding his new diagnosis,  he was informed that by signing that form he had waived his right to hold anyone financially responsible for his injury from the balloon.  It didn’t matter that the incident had actually occurred before he signed the tournament waiver and was not the result of his participation in the tournament.

Owen Peterson sued Disney and the companies who allegedly operated the ballon that fell on him in 2010.  He argued that his injury was a result of negligence.

The case was dismissed in 2013 by an Orange County judge and a summary judgement grated to the defendants.

Dave Peterson wasn’t ready to give up and he helped his son file an appeal in 2014. Dineen Pashoukous Wasuylik, a Tampa appellate attorney helped bring the case all the way to the Fifth District Court of Appeals, arguing that exculpatory clauses, like the waiver Peterson signed prior to playing in the tournament, do not apply to events that happened before the waiver was signed.

And the Judges who heard the appeal agreed. “We reject Disney’s argument that the Waiver’s reference to injuries suffered ‘before, during or after such participation’ included the [balloon] incident,” an opinion brief from the court says. “The Waiver failed to clarify that it included any incident that occurred before its signing, and thus failed to notify Peterson of a post-claim release.”

According to Pashoukos Wasylik, winning the case felt like “snagging victory from the jaws of defeat. “Owen’s first lawyer has given up on him, and he had to handle things by himself,” she stated. “He did a good enough job to form some arguments, go to trial and get some justice. I’m glad I could help. It was definitely a David-versus-Goliath feeling.”

Last May, after the case was sent back to the lower court, a jury agreed that Crossfire Paintball, Inc. was, was negligent and as a result Peterson was awarded compensatory damages of $1.25 million. According to Dave Peterson, Owen settled out of court with Disney and the other companies.  The amount received was not disclosed.  Disney has not released a statement on the settlement.

All these years later, Owen Peterson still suffers from headaches that keep him from working full time, his father said. Now that the lawsuit is over though, some of the pressure the family felt has gone away.

“This consumed me every day – it was 10 years of brutality, but the appellate court and jury got my faith back in the whole system,” Dave Peterson stated. “Owen wants to put it all behind him, but the public needs to know the shenanigans Disney tries to pull on people. Anyone else that’s going through this – stick it out. Don’t give up in there.”

Disney Chairman and CEO Saw a 17% Decrease in His Compensation Last Year

Disney Fox Deal

Chairman and CEO of the Walt Disney Company, Bob Iger, saw a 17% drop in his compensation during the fiscal year that ended September 2017 compared to the previous year. That 17% left him with a $36.3 million salary for the year.

While Iger’s base salary and stock awards remained flat at $2.5 million and about $9 million respectively, non-equity incentive compensation fell to $15.2 million from $20 million.

Iger was not the only employees to see a decrease in pay.  Chief Financial Officer, Christine McCarthy, saw her compensation fall to $8.95 million from $10.2 million. Chief Strategy Officer Kevin Mayer’s yearly overall pay went to $8.4 million from $10.1 million the previous year. General Counsel Alan Braverman’s total earnings dropped to $8.45 million from $11.12 million and M. Jayne Parker, Chief Human Resources Officer experienced a pay decrease to $5.09 million from $5.6 million.

All of this information was disclosed as part of the company’s proxy statement filing Friday.

Iger is expected to receive more compensation this year than he did last year as part of a $52.4 billion stock deal, announced in December, to buy the entertainment assets of 21st Century Fox.  Iger extended his contract an additional two years to manage the biggest acquisition in Disney’s nearly 100-year history.  His new contract will raise his salary and give him an additional $100 million in stock awards.

The proxy statement also officially notified Disney shareholders of the annual meeting, set for March 8 in Houston.

Teens Across America Chosen for Prestigious Disney Dreamers Academy

Teens Across America Chosen for Prestigious Disney Dreamers Academy

Can you imagine being one of these teenagers? They woke up today to learn that their lives are about to take a magical ride that they probably never thought was possible.

They are the 100 high school students selected to participate in this year’s Disney Dreamers Academy, an immersive and transformational program at Walt Disney World Resort. In fact, the magical ride started early this morning for five of the teens, who were flown to New York and surprised live on “Good Morning America” with the news of their selection to the program.

Confetti rained down on Ayanna Adams (Los Angeles) Ava Marie Easter (Los Angeles), Christiana Okafor (Houston), Marquis Thomas (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Sean Smith (Basking Ridge, N.J.) as the “Good Morning America” hosts, Mickey Mouse and Disney executive Tracey Powell broke the news to them on the air. And Harvey congratulated them on their accomplishment with a video message in the studio.

Disney is sending the students, along with the 95 other teens selected, on an all-expenses paid trip in March to Walt Disney World Resort. Here, they will embark on a journey throughout the Disney theme parks and behind the scenes, turning the vacation destination into a vibrant classroom for them to discover new careers, pursue their dreams and interact with Harvey and other motivational speakers and celebrities. The four-day program, which is entering its 11th year, was created to inspire teens to dream big while also making a difference in their lives at a critical time in their development. This year, the program has a new campaign called “Be100″ which is an inspirational and aspirational invitation to encourage young people to answer the call of their dreams with relentless pursuit.

The 2018 class of “Dreamers” will push the number of students nationwide who have participated in the program to more than 1,100. It’s just one of the many ways at Disney that we continue to show our commitment to the next generation of teens.

Go to www.disneydreamersacademy.com to see the full list of the 100 students and check back here later today to get the first look at a behind-the-scenes video of the big surprise moment from “Good Morning America’’ and the students’ visit to New York City.

Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante Now Serving Incredible Italian Cuisine

Maria & Enzo's Ristorante Now Serving Incredible Italian Cuisine

Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante is now serving incredible Italian Cuisine along The Landing neighborhood of Disney Springs in the Walt Disney World Resort.  Step back to another era as you enter this re-purposed airline-terminal-turned-restaurant.  Here is our Review of Maria & Enzo’s.

As you enter through the doors of Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante you are immediately transported to a bygone era.  At the Passenger Check-In Podium you are greeted by Airline Hostesses/Hosts complete with 1930’s airline attire.

You enter the main dining area from an upper level.  Sporting 50 foot ceilings, and large windows overlooking Lake Buena Vista, Maria & Enzo’s is impressive.  Ask for a window table if you will be seated close to fireworks time at Hollywood Studios.  Be sure to look along the upper level at all of the lovely retro travel posters highlighting beautiful airline travel desitnations.  Centrally located, the giant globe is suspended from the center of the ceiling, seemingly as part of a Compass.

We were escorted to a lovely table and our Flight Attendant, Gustavo, was very helpful with menu options and suggestions.

You may be randomly selected (or you can ask) to be seated in the First Class Lounge.  This is a more intimate space, perfect for a quieter dinner, and away from the hustle and bustle of the main room.

The menu features traditional Italian Cuisine and over 100 Wines that are primarily Italian of course!

Young, and not-so-young Aviators, also receive their Wings as part of the experience.

We decided to forgo the Wine and ordered Mocktails instead.  We had the Sicilian Blush and the Mele Punch.  These were, realistically, the only disappointing part of our meal.  We found them to be too watered down and we could not taste the cardamom, our primary reason for ordering this one, in the Mele Punch.

Maria & Enzo's Ristorante Now Serving Incredible Italian Cuisine

We were presented with fresh bread and extra virgin olive oil.  The bread had a lovely crust and lent itself well for dipping in the olive oil.  While very good, we both agreed we would have liked to have a bit of garlic and sea salt for added flavor.

We began our meal with the Prosciutto Di Parma and Grana Cheese.  The Saltiness of the Prosciutto and olives, along with the sweet flavor of the jam, and the sharpness of the Grana Cheese made for an excellent flavor combination. We highly recommend these two options as a starter for your meal.

We moved on to the Caciocavallo Fritto.  The Sicilian Cheese really gives this dish its flavor.  As the cheese is melted it gives a soft and creamy texture.  The sauce was not really spicy so it lended itself to add just enough flavor without taking away from the flavor of the cheese.

For our Main Dishes we chose the Arancini Di Carne and the Filetto with Rosemary Potatoes and Tempura Fried Vegetables.  Both of these options were excellent.  The Arancini Di Carne was flavorful and cooked to perfection.  The Filetto was cooked specifically to Medium with a crispy top and bottom and the Tempura Vegetables had a nice Crunch and a nice flavor.

No meal at the Walt Disney World Resort is complete without dessert.  We went with the Enzo’s Torta and the Cassata Siciliana.  The Torta was a beautiful Chocolate and Marscapone Cheesecake that was not too sweet and lent itself well as a completion to the meal.  The Cassata Siciliana was a traditional sicilian ricotta layered sponge cake.  This option was moist and a good bit sweeter.  While we really enjoyed this option, as a matter of taste preference, we would ask for it without the chocolate sauce next time.

Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante did not disappoint.  We plan to go back to try a couple of other items, including some Italian Wine and The Cannoli!  Maria & Enzo’s is open from 11:30am-12:00am daily in The Landing Neighborhood of Disney Springs at the Walt Disney World Resort.  A weekend Brunch is to be introduced at the end of this month.  While we found prices to be a little steep, we still recommend a meal at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante as this incredible Italian Cuisine is definitely worth a try.

Are you planning to enjoy a meal at Maria & Enzo’s Ristorante during your next visit to the Walt Disney World Resort?  Please leave your comments in the box below.

A Closer Look: Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt

Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt

Over the last couple of years, the Epcot festivals have been adding fun and interactive activities to do. One of my favorites is the scavenger hunts! Each event has a differently themed hunt, and the Festival of the Arts features Figment’s Brush with the Masters.

A Closer Look: Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt

The scavenger hunts are a fun activity to enjoy as you explore the festival, and is especially entertaining for little ones. They also double as a low cost souvenir, that’s really 2 souvenirs in one! You’ll not only get to keep the map, but the prize you collect at the end as well. This time the scavenger hunt is $8.99 and includes the map, stickers, and a collectible pin. The passholder discount is also available to use on this.

A Closer Look: Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt

The map will show  you which areas of the world showcase to look for the iconic paintings, but you won’t know which one is where until you hunt! To keep it spoiler free, we won’t be revealing where which paintings are. This also serves as a fun and interactive way to teach little ones about different works of art too. Once you finish finding all of the famous works of art, you can take this to the redemption area which is located at “Disney Traders” at the entrance to the World Showcase for your prize.

A Closer Look: Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt

The prize this time around is my favorite prize offering, PINS! I love Disney trading pins, and this is a great way to get a special pin themed just for the festival. Other festivals may have magnets, key chains, or buttons, last year the Brush with the Masters prize was a Magnet. There are four pins for you to choose from, all featuring our beloved purple dragon himself, Figment. Each one features Figment with an artistic accessory, and a glittered background.

A Closer Look: Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt

With four choices, all super cute it might be hard to choose! If that’s the case you can always purchase extra maps, and get them stamped for more pins. My son’s favorite color is red, so for us it was an easy choice! Although I really loved the one with the artist’s palette, because it has hidden Mickeys! There’s always next visit, right?

Have you tried out the Epcot festival Scavenger hunts before? Are you excited to check out this year’s Figment’s Brush with the Masters Scavenger Hunt?
