Disney Dreamers Academy Deadline Approaches To Apply For 2019 Mentoring Program

The Deadline for Disney Dreamers Academy for 2019 is approaching soon. You will want to get your applications in by Oct 31st. Disney Parks blog released more details with us below…

The first-ever “100 Minutes To Empower Your Dreams” seminar was recently held the Schomburg Center in Harlem, NY by Disney Dreamers Academy (DDA) organizers. It was a fun night, including a welcome from Mickey Mouse and hosted by Disney Dreamers Academy executive champion Tracey Powell. She, along with motivational speakers Jonathan Sprinkles and Brandi Harvey, who are members of the Academy’s Speakers Resource Group, along with Essence Magazine fashion and beauty director Julee Wilson delivered inspirational stories to the audience about the importance of pursuing dreams and shared tips on how to make those dreams a reality.

Kayla Jackson (class of 2013) and Avery Davis (class of 2011) also took to the stage and shared how participating in DDA changed their lives and taught them how to put their goals into action! The crowd also learned details about the Disney Dreamers Academy program which is a 4-day all-expenses-paid immersive and transformative experience for high school students held annually in March at Walt Disney World Resort.

October 31st is the deadline to apply for the opportunity to be one of 100 high school students selected for a mentoring experience of a lifetime.  Anyone interested in participating should visit DisneyDreamersAcademy.com to apply

Magic Kingdom & Epcot Celebrate their Anniversary today!

Magic Kingdom & Epcot Celebrate their Anniversary today!

Today celebrates both the Grand Opening of the Magic Kingdom and Epcot. Today the Magic Kingdom turns 47 and Epcot turns 36.

Here are some fun facts about both theme parks you might not have known about.

Magic Kingdom

The Magic Kingdom, the first Walt Disney World Resort theme park, debuted in 1971 – 16 years after Walt Disney’s first park, Disneyland, opened in Anaheim, Calif.  Magic Kingdom Park’s blue- and gold-turreted, 18-tower icon, Cinderella Castle, rises 189 feet above the park’s 142 acres.

Following the success of Disneyland, which opened in 1955, entertainment pioneer Walt Disney (1901-66) set his sights on what he called his company’s “most exciting and challenging assignment” — the creation of a vast vacation paradise known today as Walt Disney World Resort.  Walt’s dream was realized when Magic Kingdom, the first of four theme parks at the sprawling Florida site, opened Oct. 1, 1971.  Walt’s older brother and lifelong business partner, Roy O. Disney, inaugurated the park.  And the magic began.

Magic Kingdom & Epcot Celebrate their Anniversary today!

Epcot

Epcot, the second Walt Disney World Resort theme park, opened Oct. 1, 1982 — 11 years after the Magic Kingdom debuted. The 305-acre park, identified by its iconic Spaceship Earth geodesic sphere, features two distinct areas.

Future World is a showcase of discovery filled with new ideas and technology, plus an exploration of planet Earth from land and sea to air and space.

World Showcase is a kaleidoscope of nations featuring architecturally authentic buildings and backdrops that celebrate their cultural heritage, arts and entertainment. The 11 nations plus an African-themed Outpost are situated along a 1.3-mile promenade encircling the 40-acre World Showcase Lagoon.

Walt Disney envisioned a showcase for innovation, a place to celebrate human achievement and where people could experience the cutting edge of technology.

On Oct. 1, 1978, Card Walker — then president of Walt Disney Productions — revealed plans for Epcot, a theme park inspired by Walt’s philosophies.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held one year later and Epcot opened in 1982.  The debut of Innoventions in 1994 marked an exciting addition to the Epcot experience.  This evolving technology exposition gives Epcot guests an opportunity to explore the latest inventions and innovations that may change the way they live their lives.

Earl of Sandwich was to reopen today, but a spokeswoman for the restaurant chain Amy Sadowsky said the opening would be postponed. She further stated that the eatery would be “open very soon,” but she couldn’t say if that meant Tuesday or later.

Fixtures for the other restaurants and venues that closed have been removed, suggesting they will not reopen. At this time, no further plans have been announced for Disneyland’s newest hotel.

Spaceship Earth to close early October 1 – 4

Spaceship Earth to close early October 1 - 4

Spaceship Earth to close early October 1 – 4. The popular Spaceship Earth attraction at EPCOT will be closing each evening at 8:00 p.m. from October 1 through October 4 so that regular maintenance can be performed.

Earlier this month, Spaceship Earth was forced to close because of a water leak and a possible fire inside, to which the Reedy Creek Fire Department responded. Guests were evacuated, diverted away from the area and were given a bonus FastPass+ to enjoy elsewhere in the park that day.

Guests who have a FastPass+ time for 8:00 p.m. or later for the Spaceship Earth attraction will be offered an earlier FastPass+ time for Spaceship Earth or for a time to enjoy a different experience. The attraction is expected to resume normal operating hours on October 5.

Be sure to check out this year’s International Food and Wine Festival going on now through November 12.

Lucas Film Makes Surprise Announcement at Oculus Connect 5

Lucas Film makes a surprise announcement at Oculus Connect 5!  Lucasfilm’s immersive entertainment division, ILMxLAB,  divulged the title of their highly anticipated virtual reality project, Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series, at Oculus Connect 5 in San Jose, CA. This is the first episode of what will be a three-part series, which is set to launch in 2019 on the recently announced Oculus Quest.

Vicki Dobbs Beck, ILMxLAB Executive in Charge, and David S. Goyer, award-winning Writer and Executive Producer, joined together onstage for the surprise reveal. In addition to the official series title, they announced ILMxLAB’s collaboration with Oculus and even shared the official teaser trailer to close out the keynote.

“We always look for opportunities to explore the Star Wars universe in new ways,” said Kathleen Kennedy, President of Lucasfilm. “ILMxLAB is very excited to be working with David S. Goyer on a first-of-its-kind Star Wars experience which allows fans to travel to Darth Vader’s fiery, lava-ridden fortress and wield a lightsaber on his home turf.”

“Our mission at ILMxLAB is to have fans ‘Step Inside Our Stories,’ and Vader Immortal: A Star Wars VR Series represents a significant step forward in that ongoing quest.” said Vicki Dobbs Beck, ILMxLAB Executive in Charge. “Our friends at Oculus share ILMxLAB’s ambition to bring compelling immersive narratives to life and using Oculus’ hardware, we will invite fans to experience Darth Vader as never before.”

“As a lifelong Star Wars fan, working with ILMxLAB on an untold Vader story is a dream come true. The experience is designed to be ‘immersive first,’ meaning that from its inception, this three-part series has been conceived and executed specifically for the VR medium,” said David S. Goyer, Writer and Executive Producer. “We’re breaking new ground with this project that places you, the user, at the center of the story.”

“Whether it’s hearing Darth Vader’s breathing behind you and physically turning to face him in person or wielding a lightsaber with your own hands, Vader Immortal captures the ultimate wish fulfillment,” says Colum Slevin, Head of Experiences at Oculus. “Untethered VR immerses you in this universe and places you at the center of this amazing story.”

The series takes place between Star Wars – Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and Star Wars – Episode IV: A New Hope, and is connected to ILMxLAB and The VOID’s location-based hyper-reality experience Star Wars: Secrets of the Empire.
