I’m a little ashamed to admit, I often lose track of what day it is. I also enjoy having cute Mickey things on my desk, so a Mickey Mouse Perpetual Calendar like this one, is a functional, and decorative item I can use!

This wooden calendar from Hallmark let’s us celebrate our favorite mouse every day of the year with this interactive calendar! Simply witch the blocks around to reveal a different combination with each date, and month. A silhouette of Mickey stands by the date, and the calendar reads “Oh what a wonderful day!” Those are great words to start each morning with! These calendars are also great because you can use them year after year, so no throwing away lots of calendars every year.

Land Pavillion Circle of Life Attraction Sign and Plaques Gone

The Land Pavillion Circle of Life signs and plaques are now gone. From its opening on January 21st, in 1995, Timon and Pumbaa took guests on an eye-opening journey surrounding the need to care for our environment. Sadly, this Environmental Fable movie experience closed to visitors on February 3rd of this year.

As you can see from this image, the sign for the Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable is no longer gracing the entrance doorway. The interior walls, flooring and benches lining the walls are still visible and remain unchanged.

The wall sign, to the left of the doorway now simply says, “The LAND.” The former experience had become a popular location to take a break and enjoy the opportunity to sit for about 15 minutes in the air-conditioned Harvest Theater.

The walls leading up to the Harvest Theater entrance are now barren. The fun plaques of Timon and Pumbaa, letting us know how close we were to the entrance of the Land Pavillion Circle of Life adventure, have disappeared. We will keep our eyes open and see if wall decorations appear along this entryway into The Land. We hope to see a hint of a future attraction here at some point.

While we enjoyed the Circle of Life: An Environmental Fable, we are curious to see what’s next. The Harvest Theater rarely saw a full house for any of the showings and the number of visitors had decreased dramatically prior to closing of this attraction. One question that remains unanswered at this point is, “What will Disney do with this space next?” Let us know what you would like to see come into the space that was the former Land Pavillion Circle of Life.

Pop Century Resort Scavenger Hunt Features Groovy Family Fun

Pop Century Scavenger Hunt features groovy family fun in an unexpected way. Get ready to journey around this resort in search of 4-story tall icons that represent each decade from the 1950’s through the 1990’s. Maps can be picked up at the front desk upon check-in or at the Concierge desk.

Your map will be wrapped with a cool slap bracelet. If you are waiting for your room, head out to the pool area to check out your map and plan your strategy.

When we did the Pop Century Resort Family Scavenger Hunt, we clipped our map to a beach chair and began perusing the clues. Our Way-Out game plan was to begin in the 1950’s section, work our way through the 1960’s, then move on to the 1970’s, 1980’s and 1990’s. When you begin your own adventure around this Cool resort, you will be awed by all of the bigger-than-life icons representing each decade.

We will not give away the locations of these icons, although you may be able to figure it out if you have visited Pop Century or know your Disney Movie Trivia, but here are a few of the icons listed on the Scavenger Hunt.

Pop Century Resort Scavenger Hunt Features Groovy Family Fun

Once you have completed the Pop Century Resort Scavenger Hunt, bring your map up to the front desk. A Cast Member will allow each of you to choose a groovy fun prize from an old stealthy, and not-so-obvious, briefcase.

Each family member is welcome to have their own map. The slap bracelets are great fun and come in a variety of designs and colors. You can plan your Scavenger Hunt for any day during your stay. There is no cost and this interactive game can take on a competitive edge if you have older children. Consider forming teams or plan this as your rainy day activity (not on a severe weather day with thunder and lightening of course!) to add a bit of fun. Benedict Cumberbatch Saved Cyclist From Muggers

He’s a real life Superhero! Actor Benedict Cumberbatch saved cyclist from muggers in central London while in a nearby cab.

Cumberbatch, who is known for playing superhero Doctor Strange in the Marvel movies, is said to jumped out of his Uber to come to the aide of a cyclist from the food delivery company Deliveroo. The cyclist was being attacked by a group of would-be muggers.

Deliveroo took to Twitter to thank Cumberbatch this weekend.

“Thank you Benedict Cumberbatch for your brave actions, ” the delivery company said. “So on behalf of everyone at deliveroo: thank you.”

The delivery cyclist, was making a delivery when he was pounced on by four men. He was punched in the face in an attempt to take his bike, London’s Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

Cumberbatch was in a nearby cab with his wife, Sophie Hunter. When he was what was happening he rushed to the cyclist’s aide, pulling the attackers away and shouting “leave him alone,” British newspaper the Sun reported on Saturday.

The cyclist did not require hospital attention and the attackers fled without stealing anything, the police reported.

Manuel Dias, the Uber drive, told The Sun, “The cyclist was lucky, Benedict’s a superhero.”

“Benedict was courageous, brave and selfless. If he hadn’t stepped in the cyclist could have been seriously injured,” Dias added.

Cumberbatch, 41, is also well known for his role of Sherlock Holmes in the TV series, Sherlock.

“I did it out of, well, I had to, you know,” he reportedly said when asked about the incident.

Way to go Benedict! Seems like all that Superhero training has paid off!

William Phipps, Voice of Prince Charming, Has Died at 96

William Phipps, voice of Prince Charming, has died. Not only was Phipps a Sci-Fi movie star of the 1950’s, he also lent is voice to the character of Prince Charming for the Disney animated classic, Cinderella, which debuted in 1950. Phipps was 96 at the time of his passing.

Phipps passed away UCLA Medical Center in Santa Monica on Friday night after a battle with lung cancer. His death was announced by his friend and noted showbiz author, Tom Weaver.

Phipps was hired to play Prince Charming opposite Ilene Woods in Cinderella by Walt Disney himself after hearing his audition tape. According to Phipps he was paid around $100 for for two hours of work on an afternoon in January 1949.

Disney later promoted the classic animated film with a nationwide contest aimed at young women. The winner of the contest would be brought to Hollywood for a date with the voice of Prince Charming. Phipps, dressed in a white tie, tails and a top hat, would meet the lucky winner in front of a live audience on stage at the Pantages during a coast-to-coast radio broadcast of Art Linkletter’s show.

Phipps himself has said: “They gave me (I think) $100 pocket money and a limousine and a driver so we could go anywhere we wanted. We went to Ciro’s and the Mocambo, which were the two most famous places on the Sunset Strip at the time, and we went to the Trocadero, too.”

“At the end of the night, around midnight, the limousine driver and I took her back to the Roosevelt Hotel, where she was staying. And then the chauffeur took me back home — a rooming house we called the House of the Seven Garbos, a home for fledgling actresses, where I lived in a room in the basement for seven dollars a week! The next day I went to the tuxedo rental place and turned in my stuff.”

William Phipps is also known for his roles in The War of the World, Cat-Women of the Moon and Crossfire.

Born on February 4, 1922 in Vincennes, Indiana, Phipps and his older brother, Jack, were raised in farm country. He lost his first wife in an automobile accident and his second marriage ended in divorce. Phipps was residing in Malibu at the time of his death.

Are you counting down the days until the opening of Toy Story Land in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at the Walt Disney World Resort this summer? I know I am! And so are all of my friends! But us “human folk” aren’t the only ones excited to #PlayBig this summer when this new land opens. The Rafiki’s Planet Watch animals Toy Story Land count down is on too!

The Pixar Ball stopped by Rafiki’s Planet Watch at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park for enrichment playtime with some of the animals.

Enrichment is just one of the tools Cast Members at Disney’s Animal Kingdom park use to provide excellent care for their animals. Animal care experts enrich animal habitats with the intention of encouraging behaviors like bat, chase, kick, nudge, paw, sniff and generally having a great time. Animal care experts also rely on positive training methods that encourage animals to participate in their daily health care and challenge them to stay mentally active.

Check out this adorable video of some of the barnyard animals playing with the Pixar Ball!

Tokyo Disney Resort's 35th Anniversary

Japan Aviation Co., Ltd. (JAL) and Oriental Land Co., Ltd. are celebrating Tokyo Disney Resort’s 35th Anniversary, “Happiest Celebration!”

As part of the celebration, the Boeing 767-300ER aircraft is being fitted with special decals to celebrate the 35th anniversary. The aircraft will debut for domestic flights starting Friday, June 22, 2018. Mickey Mouse, along with Donald Duck, Goofy, Minnie, and Pluto are dressed in their best celebration outfits, as well as colorful ribbon up and down the aircraft.
Inside the cabin of the aircraft, the headrests are also covered with decoration as well as special paper cups for passengers. The boarding certificate also has a special design on for the 35th anniversary.

The “JAL Celebration Express” is sure to put you in the Disney mood while celebrating this special occasion!

The “Tokyo Disney Resort 35th ‘Happiest Celebration!’” will take place from April 15, 2018, through March 25, 2019.
