Disney has begun casting Stargirl

Streaming services are all the rage these days and Disney is getting in the game. As previously reported, Disney’s online streaming service should be up and running in 2019 and they are set to give other site, like Netflix, a run for their money. The new Disney streaming service will include the studio’s vast library as well as original films. Disney has begun casting Stargirl, the first of those original movies.

14-year old Grace VanderWaal has been cast in the lead role in the upcoming film, based on the young adult novel of the same name by author Jerry Spinelli. This role will be VanderWaal’s acting debut. You may recognize her from the hit show “America’s Got Talent.” Two years ago she won the talent competition by singing her original songs and playing the ukulele. In the past two years she has released a debut album and is touring with Imagine Dragons this summer.

Deadline reports that VanderWaal beat out 700 other girls for the leading role in this film. It seems that Stargirl director Julia Hart, was pulling for her from the start. America’s Got Talent proved that VanderWaal’s got, well, talent when it comes to music and this upcoming movie will hopefully showcase her acting skills too!

Stargirl is told from the point of view of a boy named Leo. In it the title character enters public high school after years of home schooling. Her eccentricities, kindness and individuality captures the imagination of her peers. Just like VanderWaal, the character of Stargirl plays the ukulele. The story is all about how important it is to be yourself and how individuality is what makes us who we are. Love, Stargirl is the sequel to this novel and we’re assuming that should Stargirl be well received we could see the sequel hit Disney’s streaming service as well.

Stargirl is set to begin principal photography on September 24th in Arizona and New Mexico.

What are the greatest benefits of running?

The fun, the health benefits (both mental and physical), the awareness of your body, the friends you make and the camaraderie of the running community. The fact that you can do it wherever you are and that it’s a great way to meet people and discover new places.

What makes runDisney races special or unique?
I think it’s the way in which they [Disney] combine the unique magic of Disney with the joy of running. Families can come and achieve their running targets while enjoying a wonderful weekend as a family where everyone gets something out of it and goes home happy after a magical weekend.

How fun was it to run through Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Paris?
It is really fun and to do so at night or early morning when it’s all lit up makes it even more special. It is an experience that you can only do when you take part in the Disney races and that makes it more special and unique.

What is your favorite runDisney race and why?
I think for me it’s the 5km in Paris because I can share it with my children. I have had so much fun and pleasure running, so to be able to see them start to do the same and to share their joy is very special indeed.

Do you have any recommendations for anyone running their first runDisney race?
Sign up with family or friends and build up the training gradually so that you can get the best fun experience. Try and stay in or close to the park to make the race easier and make a whole celebratory weekend out of it to get the most from the experience.

What advice do you have for people who want to start running but just can’t seem to get started?
Pick a small fun race like a Disney 5k. Sign up with some friends and train together in preparation. Then make a great weekend of it and be sure to treat yourself afterwards when you achieve your goal.

Pigs n’ Pints Event Coming to Morimoto at Disney Springs!

Get ready for a truly unique gastronomic event featuring locally and nationally celebrated chefs, Yuhi Fujinaga plus James and Julie Petrakis, and their restaurants Morimoto Asia and The Polite Pig, both located at Disney Springs. In this second installment of Morimoto Asia’s Guest Chef Series, these award-winning chefs will present to guests an array of Pan-Asian and Southern-inspired dishes, many of which will be true fusion dishes bridging Asia and the American South.

The family affair will take over the entire second floor and outdoor patio at Morimoto Asia, with a variety of food and beverage stations featuring dishes including pork cheek tamales, Florida peach glazed pork belly satay with spicy peanut sauce, Dim Sum Dogs (gyoza sausage with fried bao bun), Pork Skirt Steak Yakiniku Tacos and house-cured charcuterie. The star of the show will be a whole roasted pig that will be sliced and served to guests on the restaurant’s patio that overlooks Disney Springs.

The food will shine a spotlight on a variety of Florida meat, produce and craft beers. Guests of the event will have the opportunity to meet the farmers at the event as representatives from Frog Song Organics and Palmetto Creek Farms will be in attendance; along with representatives from local breweries including Cask & Larder, Coppertail, Crooked Can Brewing Co., Red Cypress and Red Light Red Light.

SeaWorld’s Electric Ocean Sea It Glow illuminates summer nights in Orlando. Featuring awesome foods, picturesque shows, a fun dance party and impressive fireworks, this event is sure to be a hit with families. Here is our photo tour of this amazing night-time spectacular.

First of all, awesome foods await at Electric Ocean Sea It Glow. There are four Steam Bao Buns and our favorites were the Hawaiian Pork and the Ahi Tuna. The flame-grilled chicken and pork were very flavorful and we loved the Guava and Cheese Empanada. One of the most popular dishes of the evening was the Totchos. We tried the Chicken Totchos and they were also really tasty.

Furthermore, picturesque shows, such as the all-new “Touch The Sky” dolphin show is magnificent. Seeing the connection the team has with their animals is truly unforgettable. I am not sure how they did it, but the dolphins actually dance to the music!

The Sea Lions Tonite show is a parody of SeaWorld. This feel-good presentation will have you laughing. We love that SeaWorld feels comfortable enough to poke fun at themselves because this show works! If you want to experience the Sea Lions Tonite during Electric Ocean, it will only be showing now through September 2nd so be sure to plan a visit soon.

In addition to the outdoor shows, POP is an unforgettable indoor bubble show that will leave you feeling amazed! This presentation takes place in the Nautilus Theater. When combined, the music, the lights and the bubbles make for a not-to-be-missed show.

Finally, a fun dance party and impressive fireworks come alive when the sun goes down and Electric Ocean Sea It Glow begins to glimmer. Meander along the iridescent walkway and be sure to look up into the trees at the glowing displays. Head over to Bayside Stadium for the Club Sea Glow dance party. Close out your evening with Ignite, an incredible laser and fireworks show, to end the evening.

In conclusion, Electric Ocean Sea It Glow is an event that encompasses areas of interest for every member of the family. The food is flavorful, the shows are spectacular, and when the night begins to glimmer, prepare to be amazed! Electric Ocean is available weekends in June and August, and 7 days a week from June 24th-July 29th, now through September 2nd.

ABC pick up "Family Food Fight"

It was announced today by ABC that they have picked up “Family Food Fight,” a culinary competition series based on Australia’s hit format. The show will be hosted by restaurateur, food maven and NY Times best-selling cookbook author Ayesha Curry. The eight-episode competition series will feature eight families from across the country sharing a common kitchen and a common goal: to claim the title of America’s No. 1 Food Family.

Family teams will pull out their best culinary moves in the kitchen. Not only will they be serving up authentic family dishes, they are also plating up the drama. Tapping into each family’s uniquely diverse cultural heritage, along with their countless culinary influences, “Family Food Fight” will take homestyle cooking to a new level as family recipes rich in tradition and shared over generations are put on display. Rather than five-star restaurant cuisine, the show will focus on relatable, yet aspirational, home-cooked meals, inspiring budding home cooks across the nation to don their aprons and get into the kitchen together.

With a mix of fast-paced cooking fun, heaping helpings of good humor and healthy rivalries, everyone will cook their hearts out as they strive to impress a panel of culinary experts including host and judge, Curry. Despite everyone’s delectable dishes, only one family will claim the coveted title of America’s No. 1 Food Family and take home the $100,000 prize. Star War Actress Kelly Marie Tran Removes Instagram Posts After Harassment

Kelly Marie Tran, who played Rose Tico in Star Wars: The Last Jedi has reportedly removed all of her posts on her Instagram account due to months of harassment from angry fans. Her character, Rose, is the mechanic who ended up saving Finn (John Boyega) from dying in the movie. Tran was also the first woman of color to a leading role in a Star Wars franchise film.

In December several news sites reported sexist and racist comments were aimed at Tran after her appearance in the The Last Jedi. On “Wookieepedia,” a Star Wars-oriented website, someone changed the description of Rose Tico to include offensive and racist language. The information on the page has since been changed back to it’s original content and editing for that page has been turned off.

Paul Ray Ramsey took to Twitter to comment on Tran’s appearance. The tweet is still live on his profile with 199 comments, 92 retweets and 403 likes.

Star Wars Facts is now reporting that due to the harassment Tran has received for her role of Rose she has removed all posts from her Instagram account.

And while we can’t confirm the reason, Tran’s Instagram account is now empty.

When Star Wars: The Last Jedi hit theaters last year Tran shared how special it was to be welcomed into the franchise.

“So many people wish for something like this. I still don’t believe I’m doing it,” she said. “Rose is not an amazing pilot or a Jedi. She’s strong in a different way.

“And I think that’s kinda how she holds her own… I’m making a Star Wars movie. I just feel so lucky to see how much work goes into everything and to see the end product. It’s been magical.”

More Changes Coming to VIP Seating for Epcot’s Illuminations

As we reported a few months ago, the VIP seating area for Walt Disney World Club Level Guests who purchase the additional Signature Services option was changed. Today, we are learning that the location that was reserved for these guests has changed once again. For additional information on the Signature Service offers for Club Level guests, please CLICK HERE.

WDWMagic.com is reporting that the new location will be located near Canada Pavilion boat dock on the right side of Showcase Plaza.

If you are a guest who has reserved a FastPass for the viewing of Illuminations, the reserved area will still be located in the spacious area in front of World Showcase Plaza between the two gift shops.

The reserved viewing area for guests who purchase the Frozen Dessert Party will also remain in the area near the Disney Traders gift shop on the left side of Showcase Plaza.
