Tower of Terror Shaft Construction Completed Drops Wait Times Drastically. For the past year, Walt Disney World has seen long wait times for The Hollywood Tower Hotel. Disney crews were hard at work fixing the shafts for the elevator lift/drop and only leaving one elevator shaft open at a time. Now that has ended, with the opening of both shafts at the same time.
Disney has finished the refurbishment of the second elevator drop in Tower of Terror and now wait times are cut in half. We have seen wait times skyrocket in the past year since construction started. Some days and in certain situations, we have seen the wait time reach upwards of 185 minutes. On average we have seen the ride times around 80-90 minutes daily.
For the past few days, we have seen the Tower queue times around 20-45 minutes at its peak time. Which leads us to try to find out why. Today we went over to Hollywood Studios and got our answer, When we noticed both sides of the tower drop opening and closing the outside doors together. Meaning Disney has opened both sides at the same time.
Below you can see both shaft doors open at the same time.
Hurtle up and down aboard a haunted elevator-style lift. You’re about to enter… The Twilight Zone!
Next Stop: The 5th Dimension
Step uneasily inside the infamous Hollywood Tower Hotel and find a dusty lobby frozen in time. Even the subdued hotel staff seems strangely out of another era.
Suddenly a television set springs to life and Rod Serling welcomes you on a journey into the Twilight Zone. He reveals that on a gloomy Halloween night in 1939, some hotel patrons were riding the elevator when a violent storm struck the building… and they were never seen again. The hotel closed down and has stood empty ever since.
Going Up?
Enter the rickety, elevator-style lift, strap yourself in and prepare to discover what lies beyond the darkest corner of your imagination.
Shriek in terror as you’re suddenly propelled up and down the abandoned shaft—unexpectedly dropping and rising—as you hear the sound of cables snapping and metal clanging overhead.
Will you make it back to the real world… or will you become a permanent resident of the Twilight Zone?
Based on the Television Series
This attraction is based on the popular television series which originally aired from 1959 to 1964. Created, hosted and written by Rod Serling, the award-winning show—with its imaginative storylines and unexpected twist endings—was wildly successful.
The Twilight Zone® is a registered trademark of CBS, Inc. and used with permission pursuant to a license with CBS, Inc.
Too Terrifying for Kids?
This attraction includes sudden, fast drops in a dark, enclosed space which may be frightening to some Guests.
The bows are stunning! There are 20 different designs available so you will for sure find your favorite princess design, there is also the option to select the type of clip you prefer!
Universal Orlando Starting Wage To Increase to $17 an Hour
Karen Irwin President & COO of Universal Orlando Resort has just sent out a letter to all team members on all of the exciting things they are looking forward to in 2023 including a big bump in the Universal Orlando Starting Wage coming in June!
We have so much to look forward to in 2023 as we celebrate the exciting Mardi Gras season and gear up for the summer opening of our new Minion Land at Universal Studios Florida. You all are the spark that brings our brand and stories to life, and I could not be prouder to work alongside you. I always walk away from my time visiting with you feeling energized and inspired to continue to build upon our strong Team Member first culture.
We deeply believe in our mission to provide an inclusive environment where our Team Members are proud to work and we remain committed to that focus. Therefore, we continually evaluate our compensation, perks, and benefits programs and why we are committed to engaging with and listening to you. We truly believe TSAT is more than just a survey; it is your voice that helps us build a better Universal experience.
Wage increases and more benefits To that end, effective June 4, 2023, we are not only increasing our starting base rate to $17 per hour, but we are increasing many of our starting rates across the business. In addition, many Team Members will receive an increase based on the new rates and their time with the company. More details about how this individually impacts Team Members will be shared in the coming weeks.
Wages are just one part of Team Member satisfaction and because of your direct feedback, we have also elevated our 401K match and tuition reimbursement programs, added compassion leave, doubled our parental leave, enhanced family planning benefits, launched the new applause recognition program, and changed Team Member comp ticket availability from block-out calendar to capacity managed based on park attendance.
Enhancing our work environment We are also focused on elevating the work environment and have begun upgrading break areas, back of house restrooms, and have exciting plans for Team Member dining that we will share shortly. But it doesn’t stop there, our culture seeks to create a path forward that supports our Team Members, gives them an opportunity to grow and fosters a real sense of purpose and belonging.
In just a few weeks, I will be bringing leaders together to kick off the year and talk about our priorities – one of which involves making every day EPIC in preparation for the opening of Epic Universe. I am excited to share this with you and I want to again thank you for everything you do to help us successfully deliver extraordinary Guest experiences.
I am excited about our bright future!
So what do you think about the $17 an hour Universal Orlando Starting Wage?

Barney is a Dinosaur from our Imagination is Getting a Reboot with New Movie and Animated Series. Our friendly purple and green T-rex who loves me and you, once filling our daily lives, will make a grand return with shows, merchandise, youtube presence and so much more.
“Barney’s message of love and kindness has stood the test of time,” said Josh Silverman, Chief Franchise Officer and Global Head of Consumer Products at Mattel, in a statement. “We will tap into the nostalgia of the generations who grew up with Barney, now parents themselves, and introduce the iconic purple dinosaur to a new generation of kids and families around the world across content, products, and experiences.”
Fred Soulie, SVP and General Manager of Mattel Television, adds that with a new “modern take” of the purple dinosaur the creators hope “to inspire the next generation to listen, care, and dream big. We think that parents, many of whom will fondly remember the original Barney from their own childhoods, will love the show, too.”
The relaunch will kick off with a reimagined animated series, which is set to debut globally in 2024. Produced by Corus Entertainment’s Nelvana, the show promises to reintroduce the famously friendly purple dinosaur to a new generation of preschool kids with lessons on “love, community, and encouragement” told through music-filled adventures.
The rugs are mostly blue with huge orange and white tropical flowers. They tie in really well with the island theme of the resort.
What do you think of the new floral rugs?
