How Did Bib Fortuna Survive the Events of ‘Star Wars: Return of the Jedi‘?  The notable second hand to Jabba the Hutt in the Skywalker Saga made a surprise cameo during the end credit scene of The Mandalorian Season 2 finale and his demise at the hand of Boba Fett ushered in a new era for the crime syndicate and officially introduced a new Star Wars series, The Book of Boba Fett.

The reintroduction of the character showed us that Fortuna has been living a rather lavish lifestyle since the death of Jabba. Bib was somehow able to take Jabba’s Palace and place himself upon the seat of power after the death of Jabba and other events featured in the Return of the Jedi. Though the Twi’lek loses his position quickly thanks to the swift actions of Fennec Shands (Ming-Na Wen) and Boba Fett (Temuera Morrison), Bib Fortuna’s rise to leadership did not come without its own struggles.

1996’s Tales from Jabba’s Palace by M. Shayne Bell features the story of Fortuna’s escape from the sail barge explosion using a private skiff to return to Jabba’s Palace in an attempt to take the now empty throne. For a time is seemed Fortuna would easily ascend to Jabba’s previous rank, but an unfortunate incident with B’omarr monks hidden within the palace cellar led to Bib’s brain being removed by said monks. Fortuna’s brain was added to a spider-droid walker until it was later united with a new body from another Twi’lek.

Though this is obviously not the path that will be featured in the Star Wars Universe or canon, it is interesting to see the previously thought dead character make an appearance in the finale and who’s death ushers in a new era for the iconic bounty hunter, Boba Fett. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Star Wars!
