The Russo Brothers Share a New Update on the Disney Live-Action ‘Hercules‘ Remake. Back in April, The Russo Brothers, Anthony and Joe Russo confirmed the news that they would be a part of the executive producing team, along with Jeffrey Silver and Karen Gilchrist, for the upcoming live-action remake of Disney’s Hercules.
Recently, the pair spoke with Lights Camera Barstool and shared a new update, stating:
“It [Hercules] is still in development, the script is about to come in a week. We’ve taken a lot of time and care with it,” Joe continues discussing the project with a hint to a possible universe with their adaptation “They want to see something really cool that they wanna get lost in it for a decade, so that’s our mission is to provide them with that experience.”
the Russo brothers had previously shared with Collider that the film will be penned by Dave Callaham (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, Wonder Woman 1984) and is currently “looking for the heart” of the film, indicating no official casting choices have been made yet.
“We have an incredible writer on it, Dave Callaham, and he’s off on script. We should be seeing something in the next week or two, I think,” Joe Russo told Collider. Asked if Hercules will carry over the original film’s music, Russo said, “We’re keeping that all under wraps for now. We want the audiences to have some discoveries about what’s fresh about our take.”
Earlier this year, the brothers spoke with Collider about their approach to the Hercules remake. According to Joe and Anthony, they plan to tell Herc’s story the same way they approached their Marvel films, by taking inspiration from the original film, but with some new elements.
Anthony shared with Collider back in May, “I think you always have to bring something new to the table because from our perspective as storytellers, it’s not compelling for us to do a literal translation. We’ve already done that with our Marvel films. We don’t do literal translations of the comics because we feel like if you want that story you can go read that story. We’re going to give you a different story. I think we’ll do something that’s in the vein of the original and inspired by it, but we also bring some new elements to the table.”
Anthony added, “Both us and our kids are Hercules fanatics. And we had heard that Disney was interested in revisiting it and we’re in love with the original. And we made a case as to why we felt we would be right to produce that film and here we are.”
Currently there have been no casting choice or premiere date announcements for Disney’s live-action Hercules. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co, for more updates and all things Disney!
