Disney+ Signs Deal for New Aardman Pokemon Stop-Motion Series and Classic Episodes

Calling all Pokémon Trainers! Disney+ and The Pokémon Company International have officially struck a major global distribution deal. The partnership brings an all-new stop-motion animated series—”Pokémon Tales: The Misadventures of Sirfetch’d & Pichu“—exclusively to Disney+ and Disney XD in 2027, along with immediate access to classic episodes of the original franchise.

Brought to life by Aardman—the acclaimed British animation studio behind Wallace & Gromit and Shaun the Sheep—the upcoming series offers a comedy-driven, knight-and-squire journey across the Galar region.

  • The Dynamic Duo: The show stars a noble yet delightfully bumbling Sirfetch’d alongside his playful, curious squire Pichu.
  • The Mission: The pair sets off across Galar to help and protect Pokémon in need. Even though their rescue missions rarely go as planned, their misadventures forge an unbreakable friendship amidst rivalries, new alliances, and plenty of laughs.
  • Visual Storytelling: The series relies heavily on visual comedy and stop-motion puppetry rather than human dialogue, letting Aardman’s tactile clay craftsmanship shine.

“Aardman has brought Galar to life in a way that makes you feel like you can smell the air, touch the tree bark, and want to adventure alongside our series heroes.” — Phil Rynda, Director of Original Animation at The Pokémon Company International

During a panel at Pokémon XP, key creative leads from Aardman—including Director Tom Parkinson, Creative Director of IP Development Nat McKay, and Model Making Creative Lead James Young—debuted the official teaser trailer and gave fans a behind-the-scenes look at how they sculpted the Galar region.
