After much waiting and anticipation, the beautiful Cinderella Castle at Disney’s Magic Kingdom is back to its former glory, moat and all! Since March, the moat has been empty of water and guests have been able to peer at the concrete slab beneath. It wasn’t exactly a ”fairytale” look, but now guests will be delighted with the result.
The moat was drained for renovations around the castle. For a long time, the pathways leading around the castle, from Liberty Square to Fantasyland and also from Tomorrowland to Fantasyland, have been congested areas that are difficult to navigate. Disney took note and decided that it was time to widen the walkways to better accommodate guests.
After draining the water, the pathway from Tomorrowland was shut down and renovated. It has since reopened with its wider foot space, while the path from Liberty Square had its turn in being refurbished. In order for the whole path to be serviced, Sleepy Hollow Refreshments in Liberty Square closed their outdoor seating area in June, becoming a window-service-only operation and forcing customers to walk their treats elsewhere. Guests have had to reroute themselves through other areas of the park due to the closures, but the extra space is a fair trade for a little extra walking.
With the empty moat looming since March 20th when it was first drained, visitors will be glad to see a camera-worthy castle back at the Magic Kingdom. They’ll now have extra walking space to take pictures of the view without being crushed on all sides as well! Walt Disney World may need to go under construction from time to time, but the magic never disappears for long. Just like that beautiful moat!
