Star Wars Fans Are Upset That Ashley Eckstein Will Not Be Playing Ahsoka Tano In ‘The Mandalorian‘. Ashley Eckstein has been the voice of Ahsoka Tano since her introduction to the Star Wars universe in the animated series, Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Eckstein has been a dedicated artist to her role and loves to wear Ahsoka inspired outfits to premieres, various events, and even went as far as to cosplay her character and shared her experience in an exclusive post with CNN Geek Out!
“As the voice of Ahsoka, I simply go into the recording studio and record my lines for the show,” Ashley relates in her CNN Geek Out! post. “There is no need to ever dress up as the character because they only need our voices to bring the character to life. However, I am also a fan, and year after year I have been going to conventions seeing hundreds of girls dressed up as Ahsoka, secretly wishing I, too, could someday try on the costume. Well, with the help of my friends, my wish was granted, and I got to dress up as Ahsoka for the day!”
Ashely is also the powerhouse behind the pop-culture couture site, Her Universe, that allows fans to purchase outfits inspired by their favorite stories and characters from pop-culture films, books, and television series. Some examples include Star Wars, Marvel, Harry Potter, and more!
Though Ashley is clearly very dedicated to her role, Lucasfilm ultimately passed on Eckstein in favor of Jane the Virgin and Daredevil actress, Rosario Dawson, who will play the first live-action version of the character on screen in the highly anticipated season 2 of The Mandalorian.
Fans have been torn over the casting choice, most praising Lucasfilm for choosing Dawson who has been campaigning for years to be Ahsoka due to her love for the character, but others are not pleased with Ashley being overlooked for the part. Check out what fans have to say about the casting change:
Though we know Ashley best as the voice of Ahsoka, it will be interesting to see how Rosario portrays the wayward Padawan of Anakin Skywalker in The Mandalorian and will finally make the fan favorite character canon in the films and series. Season 2 of The Mandalorian is expected to premiere on Disney+ starting in October 2020. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for all things Star Wars!
