Rumored: Jude Law to Star in HBO Max ‘Fantastic Beasts‘ Dumbledore Spin-Off Series. Though it is strictly a rumor at this time, there are rumblings online that a spin-off series starring Jude Law as Albus Dumbledore is being considered for the new streaming service HBO Max.

Actor Jude Law already portrays Hogwarts Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Fantastic Beast films and is set to appear in the next film currently underway at Warner Bros. Though the casting choice comes as no surprise, it is interesting to see that the studio is already considering a spin-off series so early into the younger Dumbledore’s introduction.

Though we know the life of Dumbledore to be full of legendary tales and stories, it seems odd that his story would diverge from the Fantastic Beasts films so soon. For those who are not familiar with the well established tale, Albus Dumbledore duels Gellert Grindelwald in 1945 and as the Deathly Hallows rules state, he becomes the new owner of the Elder Wand.

The curious part in all of this is the fact that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald takes place in 1927. Though there is plenty of content that could be feature in the nearly two decades between Fantastic Beasts 2 and the impending epic duel between two of the most powerful wizards, it seems odd that Warner Bros. and Wizarding World would choose to showcase Dumbledore and his abilities in a series before the end of the film series.

That being said, there is no indication as to what or who would be featured in the series, other than it reportedly taking place between the Fantastic Beast and Harry Potter films, though that one seems like a given. It is currently unknown if characters from either franchise will make appearances in the rumored series.

Please Note: Neither Warner Bros. or Wizarding World have confirmed these rumors at the time of writing. Currently, the untitled ‘Fantastic Beasts 3‘ is beginning production in London and is set to premiere in theaters November 21, 2021 pending any changes made due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Be sure to check back here at Chip and Co. for updates and all things Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts!
