Robert Downey Jr. “In Talks” to Join the Star Wars Universe

Robert Downey Jr. “In Talks” to Join the Star Wars Universe. Though we have already gotten to see Tony Stark traveling through space in the MCU, we may get to see RDJ join the Star Wars Universe! Reports from scooper and insider, Daniel Richtman state that not only is Robert Downey Jr. in discussions to join Star Wars, but he would take on a significant role in the franchise and get to work with his Iron Man co-star and director Jon Favreau.

This may all seem like a dream come true, but it should be noted this is strictly rumored at this time and neither Disney nor Lucasfilm have confirmed Downey’s involvement in any of their current projects. This may also seem like a leap for some fans, but readers should take into consideration that many actors and production team members have branched off into both the Marvel and Star Wars franchises including: Gina Carano, Ming-Na Wen, Rosario Dawson, Daniel Glover, Oscar Isaac, Natalie Portman, Samuel L. Jackson, Paul Bettany, Mads Mikkelsen, Lupita Nyong’o, Felicity Jones, Forest Whitaker, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Hannah John-Kamen, Woody Harrelson, Ben Schwartz, Benicio del Toro, Richard Armitage, Ken Leung, Spencer Wilding, Rose Bryne, Jessica Henwick, Ray Park, Peter Serafinowicz, Terence Stamp, Stellan Skarsgård, Richard E. Grant, Cailey Fleming, Taika Waititi, Andy Serkis, and Jon Favreau. My point being, Downey’s involvement is not as far fetched as it may seem.

Richtman did share that in order to better separate himself from the Tony Stark persona on screen Robert would have to be featured with “a serious change in appearance” within the Star Wars Universe. It is unknown if this will mean prosthetics or if Downey would featured as a droid or an alien race allowing for a complete change in appearance for the Disney Legend. Daniel also hinted that there is a good chance that if Robert is not featured in any upcoming Star Wars films he will be featured in a significant role on multiple Star Wars series for Disney+. Daniel Richtman also confirmed RDJ will not appear in a cameo or “one off” appearance, but is set to take on a reoccurring role for Star Wars.

Regardless of “how” the studios will include him, it is exciting to hear that RDJ may be back on Disney’s payroll and would bring lots of star power to any Star Wars project or projects in the works for Lucasfilm and Disney.
