Robert Downey Jr. Confirms He is Done as Tony Stark

Robert Downey Jr. Confirms He is Done as Tony Stark. Though many fans remain shocked and saddened over the death of Tony Stark/Iron Man in Avengers: Endgame many fans still hold out the hope that comic book logic may make its way to the movie adaptions and allow Tony to return.

Despite these best wishes, Robert Downey Jr. continues to insist he is grateful for his time and career in the MCU, but has moved on from Marvel. RDJ recently spoke with Hindustan Times about his tenure in the role and what he looks forward to doing now that he has a bit more creative freedom and time.

Sharing, “Playing Tony/Iron Man was hard and I dug deep. I had an incredible 10-year run that was creatively satisfying,” He continued, “I’ve done all I could with that character and can do other things now. Now, being middle-aged, you start looking at the back nine and realize this is all part of the journey, and things end. I am fortunate and eternally grateful to have wound up where I have.”

“I had an incredible 10-year run with Marvel which pushed me creatively. I now have tons more ambition to do things I haven’t done before. Evolving is key — the worst thing you can do is get in your own way,” Downey said. “Just in the matter of me wanting to be a fit father, husband, and citizen, it’d be irresponsible of me to not keep my eye ahead so I can prepare my mind for what’s to come and the transition.”

Downey added that his approach to new projects now leads him to consider the time he will have to dedicate to it while also balancing time with his family, stating, “As an actor, every time I get a script now, I think about the commitment and time I’d be away from my missus and kiddos.”

Before his departure from Marvel Studios, RDJ did recording for the upcoming animated Marvel series, What If…? as Tony Stark/Iron Man, but that will be the final credit Downey will have with Marvel Studios.

We are excited to see what Robert Downey Jr. is up to in the coming years and will always be grateful for his time as Tony Stark in the MCU. We Love You, 3000!
