Live-Action Gargoyles Movie Will Be Directed by Kenneth Branagh
From across the pond, the Belfast Telegraph has reported that Sir Kenneth Branagh is set to direct a full feature length film based on the 90’s cartoon series “Gargoyles.” This live-action remake of the animated show has something that Disney has been trying to get in production ever since the animated series wrapped in the 1990’s when in 2011 the writing team of David Elliot and Paul Lovett worked on a potential film adaptation. In 2018, writer/ director Jordan Peele also pitched Disney on an adaptation of Gargoyles.
Gargoyles was a latter addition to the iconic “Disney Afternoon.” The Disney Afternoon was a highly popular programming block that aired on the American television network, syndication, and later the Disney Channel from 1990 to 1997. It featured an exciting lineup of animated series produced by Walt Disney Television Animation. The block typically aired in the afternoon after school hours, providing an engaging and entertaining experience for children and young audiences.
“Gargoyles” was unique in that it blended a different brand of fantasy, mythology, and action into a unique and thrilling storyline. The show revolved around a group of gargoyles, mythical creatures who were stone by day but came to life at night to protect the city of New York from various threats.
