Disney Earns 16 Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations

Awards Season continues to chug along and Disney is once again in the mix with the SAG Awards right around the corner. The Walt Disney Company garnered 16 nominations for the Screen Actors Guild Awards® from its various content brands and studios, such as 20th Television, ABC, ABC Signature, Disney+, FX, Hulu, Lucasfilm Ltd., Marvel Studios, National Geographic, and Searchlight Pictures. The announcement of the winners is scheduled for Saturday, February 24.

The Screen Actors Guild Awards (SAG Awards) are an annual accolade honoring outstanding performances in film and television. These awards specifically recognize the exceptional work of actors in both individual and ensemble performances. Nominations span various categories and are determined by fellow actors who are members of the Screen Actors Guild‐American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA).

Tortilla Jo’s Announces Closing Date for Downtown Disney Location

Another restaurant in Downtown Disney has announced its closing date. Tortilla Jo’s will be closing to make way for a new restaurant.

Tortilla Jo’s serves Mexican fare in Downtown Disney. The restaurant will be closing this spring and the last day of service is March 31, 2024. An email was sent to customers announcing the closing date. The email was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user RyanTheme Park. It read:

“To our Tortilla Jo’s familia, thank you for an incredible 20 years! Our last day of service will be March 31 – don’t miss your chance to enjoy your favorite dishes and raise a glass to all the memories we’ve made together over the past two decades. Visit us one last time and celebrate Tortilla Jo’s!”

Tortilla Jo’s will be transferred to a new restaurant that will also serve Mexican food but it’ll be a new menu. We don’t know what the new restaurant will be as of now.

This closure is just another among the closures while Downtown Disney undergoes a reimagining. Other restaurants that have closed include Catal Restaurant and Uva Bar. Those are also being replaced by another restaurant.

World of Disney in Disney Springs Featuring New Play in the Parks Collection

The new Play in the Parks Collection has arrived at World of Disney in Disney Springs! The new collection features apparel, Minnie ears, a Loungefly bag, and more. Take a look and see if you’ll be adding any of these items to your personal Disney collection.

The Loungefly mini backpack is light blue and features classic Disney characters like Mickey and Minnie enjoying different Disney attractions or “playing in the park”. The teacups from Mad Tea Party, boats from Pirates of the Caribbean, popcorn carts, Cinderella Castle, and more are featured on the bag.

Matching the Loungefly bag is a Minnie ear headband. The ears feature the same design. In the middle is a blue sequined bow with a small Mickey ear hat.

Part of the apparel in the collection includes a sweatshirt and a button-up top. The sweatshirt is a dark blue, features Mickey Mouse and the “Play in the Park” logo, along with signs for the parks. The button-up top is a teal color with the same designs as the Loungefly and Minnie ears.

There is also a hat in the collection. It’s a light cream color and shows Mickey Mouse riding in a rocket ship from Astro Orbiter at Magic Kingdom.

The last item Disney shared in a post on Instagram is an adorable light blue pillow! It’s in the shape of a Mickey head balloon and features Mickey’s face along with the Walt Disney World logo.

It looks like it’s also frosted with some green, yellow, and purple sprinkles.

Meet Relay the Universal Orlando Room Delivery Robot

Have you ever watched a science fiction show and thought about how cool it would be to have a robot delivering snacks and towels to your room? Well, this is no longer just a fantasy at Universal Orlando Resort! Meet Relay, the incredible robot that’s changing the way guests receive room service.

Relay is a high-tech robot designed to carry items from the hotel staff to your room, and is one of the first robots to be used in this way at a major theme park resort. This cool robot is designed to make your stay at Universal Orlando even more magical and convenient. When a guest at the hotel orders something from the front desk or housekeeping, the hotel staff places the items in Relay. Then, using a mix of cameras, sensors, and even Wi-Fi, Relay navigates through the hotel to the guest’s room. After the guest takes the items, Relay heads back to the staff area all by itself. It’s like a little robot butler!

Relay is pretty versatile, with the ability to deliver small items like snacks, souvenirs, towels, and more to your room. It’s not quite big enough, however, for large items like suitcases. Relay is designed with safety in mind. It has sensors to avoid bumping into people or things. Plus, it’s monitored by hotel staff, so you don’t have to worry about anything going wrong.

Orlando’s 2nd Raising Cane’s Restaurant is Now Open

Central Florida residents and visitors have another delicious dining choice. Raising Cane’s, the place beloved for its delicious chicken fingers and sauces, has just opened its second location in Central Florida in the Lake Nona area of Orlando.

The opening of this new Raising Cane’s location featured a “Lucky 20” drawing where 20 lucky people won free Cane’s food for a whole year! The first 100 people who bought a Box Combo got a cool T-shirt and a free Box Combo for their next visit. Talk about a yummy deal!

The new Raising Cane’s location was decorated in a manner that celebrates the local community. They’ve decorated it with things from Lake Nona High School, local golf courses, the Orlando Magic, and even Walt Disney World. It’s like getting a mini tour of Orlando area highlights while you munch on your chicken fingers.

You’ll find the new Raising Cane’s at 12040 Pioneers Way, near Narcoossee Road and State Road 417. It’s easy to find and a great place to grab a bite.

New Mickey Garden Collection Perfect For The Spring!

Get ready to add some magic to your style this Spring with this Mickey Garden Collection inspired in the 1935 Mickey’s Garden cartoon featuring cute and fun sweatshirts and t-shirts you definitely need in your wardrobe. We found these products at Disney’s Contemporary Resort and hope to see them soon at shopDisney.

Let’s start with the different sweatshirts that are perfect for those chilly Spring days, a brown/ mustard color sweatshirt with Mickey having a nap in the garden is great if you are into neutral colors.

For a more bold style, there’s a dark red Mickey Mouse sweatshirt where he is enjoying the garden, the other sweatshirt is a crop top style with a beautiful landscape of a gorgeous sunny day with Mickey watering the plants and having a fun day with his insect friends!

The collection also features button up shirts with embroidery details! There is a long sleeve version with bright colors of blue, green, yellow and red, as well as, a short sleeve shirt in white with a crop top style.

Finally, for t-shirts, we found a polo collar long sleeve shirt with lavender and white stripes, Mickey Mouse holding a big flower and a bee flying around. There’s also a lavender and white stripped shirt with artwork featuring Mickey napping on the garden in a sunny day.

Turning Red Meet & Greet Coming to Lunar New Year Festival at Disney California Adventure

Guests visiting Disney California Adventure during the Lunar New Year celebration will get to experience a Turning Red meet and greet! Characters Meilin and Ming from the film will be greeting guests during the festival.

The Lunar New Year celebration returns to Disney California Adventure from January 23 through February 18, 2024. The celebration will feature culinary delights, fun festivities and Disney Characters. Two new characters coming this year are Meilin and Ming from Turning Red.

The main character in the 2022 Pixar animated film is Meilin Lee, also known as Mei, with Ming Lee serving as her mother. Both possess the remarkable ability to morph into giant Red Pandas. While it hasn’t been officially confirmed, there’s a strong possibility that Mei will greet guests in her panda form, a practice already in place at Shanghai Disney Resort.

Disney World Teases More Announcements to Come for Frontierland Update in Magic Kingdom

Yesterday, Disney shared new details about Country Bear Musical Jamboree and also teased more updates coming to Frontierland in Magic Kingdom.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

Another attraction a little down yonder in Frontierland is also being reimagined and you can’t believe the incredible detail going into this all-new experience.

Tiana’s Bayou Adventure will take guests on a musical adventure inspired by the beloved story and characters from the fan-favorite film. Picking up where the film left off, guests will join Princess Tiana, jazz-loving alligator Louis and others on an adventure through the bayou as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration during Mardi Gras season where everyone is welcome.

You may have seen that Disney recently dug a little deeper into the story behind the latest addition to Tiana’s Bayou Adventure — a custom handcrafted weathervane by Louisiana’s master blacksmith, Darryl Reeves, now visible to guests strolling past Tiana’s Bayou Adventure at Magic Kingdom.

When you visit Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Disney wants you to feel like you are taking a trip down the Louisiana Bayou in a way only Disney can bring to life. The weathervane does just that and its installation is another important milestone cast members and Imagineers are celebrating ahead of the new adventure opening for guests later this year.

Along with the details about Country Bear Musical Jamboree and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Disney also teased that more announcements would be coming. “But hold your horses, we’re not done yet. We have a lot of growth and investment planned for our theme parks in the coming years and look forward to sharing more announcements about Frontierland … so y’all come back now, ya hear?”

Unveiled for the first time at D23 Expo 2022, the expansion for Magic Kingdom, known as “Beyond Big Thunder Mountain,” has unveiled numerous potential Blue Sky additions. These include themed lands inspired by Pixar’s “Coco” and “Encanto,” as well as a dedicated area for Disney Villains.

During the Destination D23 event in September 2023, Bruce Vaughn, the Chief Creative Officer of Walt Disney Imagineering, graced the stage to provide updates on this ambitious project. He likened its scale to that of Pandora — The World of Avatar at Disney’s Animal Kingdom and Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Vaughn emphasized that this expansion will mark the largest in the history of Magic Kingdom.

We don’t know what exactly will be announced next in regards to Frontierland but we can’t wait to find out!
