According to Highway Patrol, two buses collided in front of the Contemporary Resort hotel in Walt Disney World near the Magic Kingdom.

According to the reports, the accident occurred at 2:45 p.m. yesterday near the intersection of World Drive and Seven Seas Drive where World Drive narrows from two lanes to one. The bus in the rear failed to slow down and crashed into the bus in front. The driver of the bus causing the accident, 68-year-old Joseph Edwards of Zephyrhills, has been ticketed for careless driving. As a result of the accident, 12 of the 50 guests aboard the buses were sent to nearby hospitals.

The official statement from Disney stated: “There is nothing more important to us than the safety of our guests and cast members. We are focused on the well being of those involved and are working closely with law enforcement.”

This incident marks the second accident to take place on Disney property this month. The first occurred on July 5 when 2 monorails collided resulting in the death of cast member, Austin Wuennenburg.

Disneyland Marriage Proposal

I don’t why people believe this is real. With that many cameras and the staging this is not something you just do, a lot of planning and work went into it. Plus Disney is not going to just give you permission to get on top of one of the buildings in Main Street for a marriage proposal. Let alone bust out in a musical number. Cute concept though…

Monorail collision triggered by worker’s failure to activate track switch

From the Orlando Sentinel:

The chain of events leading to a fatal crash on Walt Disney World‘s monorail system was triggered by an employee who mistakenly radioed others that he had activated a track switch, according to multiple people familiar with details of the accident’s investigation.

The employee was working in the monorail’s maintenance bay on July 5 when a central coordinator overseeing all of Disney’s trains radioed him to activate a switch on Disney’s Epcot loop for a train that was waiting to transfer off the track and onto a spur so it could go out of service for the night.

The employee has told investigators that he thought he had activated the switch before radioing back to the coordinator that it had been done. But the switch never moved from the main line to the spur, and investigators have found no evidence of a mechanical malfunction.

RIP Disney voice-over artist Dallas McKennon w/ classic video

dallas

Article is from Barbara Nefer at the Examiner

Voiceover artist Dallas McKennon, whose voice is well-known in the Disney theme parks at various attractions, including the American Adventure, the Country Bear Jamboree, and the Big Thunder Mountain Railroad roller coaster, has died at age 89.

McKennon also did movie work for Disney, using his vocal talents in Sleeping Beauty, Lady and the Tramp, Mary Poppins, 101 Dalmations, and Bedknobs and Broomsticks. His voice was familiar to many cereal-muching Saturday morning cartoon watchers in shows such as Gumby and Archie, in which he spoke for the title character.

McKennon did some live film work, too, most noteably as innkeeper Cincinnatus in the series Daniel Boone with well-known co-star Fess Parker. He also appeared in an Elvis Presley movie, Clambake, as a gas station worker.

McKennon died on Tuesday, July 14, just five days before he would have turned 90. However, he will live on every time he warns Magic Kingdom guests to “hold on to your hats and glasses ’cause this here’s the wildest ride in the wilderness!”
