Captain EO dances his way to DisneyWorld Florida…
Back in the 80’s that was a true statement, Michael Jackson danced his way into our hearts and minds with a little help from George Lucas and Francis Ford Coppola. Starting out in Disneyland and eventually making his way to Disneyworld and the rest of the Disney Universe. Here is the breakdown of Captain EO performances at the various Disney Parks:
Epcot
Opening date September 12, 1986
Closing date July 6, 1994
Disneyland
Opening date September 18, 1986
Closing date April 7, 1997
Reopening date February 23, 2010
Tokyo Disneyland
Opening date March 20, 1987
Closing date September 1, 1996
Disneyland Park (Paris)
Opening date April 12, 1992
Closing date August 17, 1998
Today on Febuary 23rd 2010 Michael Jackson will be dancing his was back to Disneyland California. After a 13-year absence, the 17-minute film, “Captain EO,” starring Michael Jackson returns!
One question remains…
When are we going to see Michael at Walt Disney World in Florida?
I was just at DisneyWorld and no offense to Disney or any of the cast of Honey I shrunk the Kids but you can tell that that show is starting to get very old. Even the 15 minute commercial from Kodak is old. Don’t even get me started on that..
Hopefully Disney is going to see huge numbers at the Captain EO show in Disneyland and decide to ditch “Honey” in Florida and follow suit.
No matter where you look today on the various blogs, news, or social websites there is talk of one thing Michael Jackson. He touched a generation with his music, with his dancing, and with his love. Having seen the show only one time when I was little but having rewatched the videos online I would love to take my little one to see a performance of a great man.

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to pay for your annual passes per month instead of all at one time? Well according to MousePlanet that might soon be heading your way. Only bad news is you have to be a Florida State Resident.
Sources at Walt Disney World tell MousePlanet that the monthly payment plan first offered to Disneyland Annual Passholders in late 2008 will be extended to Walt Disney World Passholders later this year. The official announcement is expected sometime next week, when Disney is also expected to debut a new Annual Passport that will be valid at both the Florida and California Resorts.
Few details are available about the Walt Disney World monthly payment option, which is not expected to launch until sometime this summer. The Disneyland version, currently restricted to Southern California residents only, requires customers to make a deposit equal to the cost of a one-day, one-park ticket. The remaining monthly payments are then automatically charged to a credit card placed on file at the time the passport is purchased. The Walt Disney World version is expected to be open to all Florida residents, and will require a deposit and credit card payments similar to the Disneyland pass. Non-residents are not expected to be eligible for this option.
The resort is reportedly launching this plan as another attempt to grow their Annual Passholder base. Disneyland saw sales of Annual Passes skyrocket after launching the monthly payment plan, and Walt Disney World is hoping that the financing option will help boost sales of their pricier passes. If the two plans are similar, a Florida resident would be able to “upgrade” their $79 one-day, one-park ticket (expected to go to $83 this August if current patterns hold) to a seasonal annual passport with payments of about $15 per month. After deposit, payments for the Florida resident Premium AP would be just under $40 per month – still a big chunk, but much easier on the budget than shelling out $489 (current price) at one time. Note that all prices listed do not include tax.

The guys at Latino Review were able to get there hands on a leaked copy of the trailer for the Disney Movie “Tangled” This is not an official video and alot of the storyboards are still in black in white but still very cool. Thanks Guys!
Here is the article and video:
Up until today, we were only able to show you early concept art with few story details but today we have quite the reverse. As the trailer mostly relies upon storyboards and the animations are still in their earliest stages, this isn’t so much about the look as it is about the tone. While Tangled does mark Disney’s return to its fairytale roots, it’s with a decidedly modern interpretation that’s more Road to El Dorado and Pixar than Snow White or Sleeping Beauty.
Here are some the select highlights from the trailer: Rapunzel has an anthropomorphized gekko/lizard of sorts, the male lead relies upon his charms and wiles to steal hearts and money but is captured by Rapunzel who seems immune to everything he can throw at her — especially since she weilds a frying pan as her defense.
Overall, it seems like Disney is going for humor with this film and is trying to undermine its self-perceived princess problem by making the story every bit about the male lead as it is about Rapunzel escaping from her tower and letting down her golden hair.

Article from the Hollywood Reporter on Ian McShane possibly joining the cast of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides. You might remember him from his role as Tai Lung in Kung Fu Panda:
Ian McShane is in negotiations to play the villain in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” the fourth installment of the Disney movie series being directed by Rob Marshall.
McShane will play legendary pirate Blackbeard — whose real name was Edward Teach — who piloted the ship Queen Anne’s Revenge.
McShane will join Johnny Depp, reprising his role of Captain Jack Sparrow, and Penelope Cruz, Sparrow’s foil and equal in many ways, in a tale that revolves around the Fountain of Youth.
A working British actor since the 1970s, McShane gained notice Stateside for his work in HBO’s “Deadwood,” where he played the brutal owner of a brothel. McShane starred in the short-lived TV series “Kings” and did voice work in “Coraline” and “Kung Fu Panda.”
Terry Rossio and Ted Elliot wrote the script. Jerry Bruckheimer is producing.

Article from the examiner discussing a theater chain that will not be showing Alice in Wonderland.. yeah that is a smart move..
It was only a few weeks ago that the controversy began around “Alice in Wonderland” and its shorter run in theaters. Disney approached the UK Cinemas: Odeon, Vue and Cineworld with a theater life for the higly anticipated film of 12 weeks, shortened from the normal 17-week-run.
All cinemas claimed “party foul,” with Odean and Vue pulling all promotional ads and halting advance ticket sales for the March 5 release date. As reported in an earlier article surrounding the buzz, Disney’s distribution chiefs, Bob Chapek and Chuck Viane, took a flight from Hollywood to talk with the British exhibitors.
“We feel that it’s important for us to maintain a healthy business on the exhibition side and a healthy business on the home video side… We remain committed to theatrical windows, with the need for exceptions to accommodate a shortened timeframe on a case-by-case basis, such as with Disney’s Alice in Wonderland,” said Chapek.

From 1984 to 1994, a perfect storm of people and circumstances changed the face of animation forever.
Waking Sleeping Beauty is no fairytale. It is a story of clashing egos, out of control budgets, escalating tensions… and one of the most extraordinary creative periods in animation history.
Director Don Hahn and producer Peter Schneider, key players at Walt Disney Studios Feature Animation department during the mid1980s, offer a behind-the-magic glimpse of the turbulent times the Animation Studio was going through and the staggering output of hits that followed over the next ten years. Artists polarized between the hungry young innovators and the old guard who refused to relinquish control, mounting tensions due to a string of box office flops, and warring studio heads create the backdrop for this fascinating story told with a unique and candid perspective from those that were there. Through interviews, internal memos, home movies, and a cast of characters featuring Michael Eisner, Jeffrey Katzenberg, and Roy Disney, alongside an amazing array of talented artists that includes Don Bluth, John Lasseter, and Tim Burton, Waking Sleeping Beauty shines a light on Disney Animations darkest hours, greatest joys and its improbable renaissance.
Release date: March 26, 2010
While we were at Disneyworld we always participate in the reuse your towels program there. Actually due to our little ones nap time we didn’t really use the room attendants services that often.
Disney is particpating in Clean the World campaign according to this news report which is great how a company of that size can make changes to help people and the enviroment.
Here is the article:
Walt Disney World Resort hotels are working with Clean the World to recycle all the partially used amenities from their nearly 28,000 Central Florida hotel rooms. Clean the World sanitizes the soap and shampoo that would be discarded and distributes these amenities to people in need around the world.
“With the support of Walt Disney World, even more supplies will reach those in desperate need,” said Paul Till, co-founder and managing director of Clean the World, who is responsible for recruiting new hotels to join the “Clean the World Hospitality Recycling Program.” Through this program, hotels financially contribute a tax-deductible recycling fee in exchange for collection, recycling and free redistribution of partially-used amenities to those suffering due to a lack of available hygiene products. In 2009, Clean the World distributed more than 230 tons of hygiene products to countries worldwide including Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Uganda, Mali, Zimbabwe, Swaziland, Mongolia and Romania.
By participating in this program, Walt Disney World Resort hotels are showing a commitment to saving lives and protecting the environment.
Clean the World in Haiti
In the wake of the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Clean the World has stepped up its commitment to provide basic necessities to the impoverished people of the island nation, and has included medical supplies, food, water and other essentials as well. Since January 2010, Clean the World has delivered over 150 tons of supplies directly to Haiti.
In 2009, Clean the World delivered 200,000 bars of soap to schools, orphanages, clinics and churches in Cap Haitien, Haiti. Though its Haitian partnerships and distribution network, Clean the World is providing free soap to people in desperate need for proper hygiene. In Haiti alone, 8,000 children die annually from diarrheal disease, which is preventable by up to 62% with proper hand washing.

Princesses at Dinner! The Fairytale Dining at Cinderella’s Royal Table in the Magic Kingdom now includes the princesses at dinner, who used to only make appearances at breakfast and lunch. The fixed-price menu is tweaked a bit, too, with a new salmon-crab cake appetizer, but the popular prime rib and roast lamb chops remain.
Congrats to Chef Scott Hunnel at Victoria & Albert’s at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, a semifinalist for “Best Chef in the South” in the 2010 James Beard Foundation Awards, the nation’s most prestigious recognition program honoring professionals in the food and beverage industry. The final nominees will be announced March 22, with winners named on May 3 in New York City.
Check out the spiffed up Crystal Palace in the Magic Kingdom, recently reopened. Look for new menu items – and more changes over the next several months. At lunchtime, the flank steak and pork loin go away, replaced with pork loin with a sugar-cured bone-in ham served with stone-ground mustard or cranberry glaze. And at dinner, no more thai curry mussels – instead a savory clam and mussel dish with white wine, spicy andouille sausage and onions.
Fans of Pecos Bill in the Magic Kingdom, check out the new 1/3-pound Deluxe Angus Burger – a hefty meal on a bun topped with American cheese, bacon, onion rings and barbecue sauce (you won’t need the toppings bar with this one). Or order you Angus burger plain or with cheese. Comes on a multigrain roll with a side of fries.
Conch fritters are back! Beginning March 17, look for the return of those addictive fried fritters at Olivia’s Cafe at Disney’s Old Key West Resort. A new “Taste of the Keys” menu features the fritters as well as Florida favorites such as shrimp and grits. Olivia’s is the perfect get-away-from-it-all dining spot for casual eats – we love the messy Florida jerk chicken wings and the fennel-dusted grouper with black beans and rice.
New eats this fall at Downtown Disney Marketplace: Pollo Campero, an international Latin chicken restaurant will feature chef-prepared salads, sandwiches, wraps, fruits and healthy snacks, as well as vegetarian, gluten-free, sugar-free, low sodium, and organic offerings. The quick-service eatery takes over the space formerly occupied by McDonald’s.
In case you were not able to make it out to the event or live on the East Coast like myself here is the MySpace/U Stream video from the Alice in Wonderland Ultimate Fan Event at Hollywood and Highland. Myspace hosts interview the cast of Alice in Wonderland including Helena Bonham Carter, Anne Hathaway, Johnny Depp and many more.
