Dance Star Mickey Set to Shake Up the Holiday Season

Dance Star Mickey Set to Shake Up the Holiday Season

One of the most anticipated toys of the holiday season is hitting retail shelves today as Fisher-Price – a subsidiary of Mattel, Inc. – and Disney Consumer Products launch the innovative Dance Star Mickey plush that walks, talks, and grooves to a beat all his own.

“This is a first for Mickey,” says Chris Byrne, content director for TimetoPlayMag.com, also known as The Toy Guy®. “Each year, Fisher-Price celebrates the holidays with an extraordinary plush toy that combines technical magic and classic play. This year, it’s Mickey’s turn, and he’ll be dancing his way into the hearts and imaginations of kids of all ages.”

With his exciting dance moves and fun interactive games, Dance Star Mickey is set to top holiday wish lists as he encourages children to get up, get active and dance! Featuring extraordinary dancing skills, Dance Star Mickey is packed with play that’s pure joy. At sneak previews this summer, Dance Star Mickey had kids – and their parents – up on their feet, grooving to Mickey’s moves in one big dance party.

“We are thrilled that Dance Star Mickey is now available to dance into the hearts of kids around the country,” said Gina Sirard, vice president, marketing, Fisher-Price. “It’s exciting to create a toy that can move like Dance Star Mickey – talking and interacting with kids, energetically waving and clapping his hands, and bouncing to each beat. It’s a truly engaging experience as this iconic character comes to life to create that special Disney magic that has resonated with children all over the world for generations.”

With one press of his foot, Dance Star Mickey is revved up and ready to go on a fun and magical experience as he grooves to six different songs with styles including Disco, Latin, Techno, and an “out of this world” Moonwalk grand finale. He is also packed with interactive games that will have children and parents laughing and dancing right along.

“Dance Star Mickey truly captures the humor and endearing personality of this beloved character,” said Chris Heatherly, vice president of Disney Toys. “This dancing Mickey is the next generation of feature plush from Disney and Fisher-Price featuring the most innovative mechanisms to foster exceptional play value through endless singing and dancing entertainment for kids.”

The dancing Mickey made his debut last February at the American International Toy Fair as Dancing with the Stars champion Donny Osmond joined in to help announce this magical toy. This holiday season, the Disney pair reunites for a special commercial spot airing tonight during Dancing with the Stars.

For even more dancing fun, Fisher-Price and Disney have also created a highly-interactive online game at www.fisher-price.com/DanceStarMickey and free iPhone application that gives kids the chance to make up their own unique dance for Mickey by mixing-and-matching his individual dance moves in specific sequences of their own creation. And what would a dance-off be without celebrity judges? Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy sit at the judges’ table to rate each dance on a scale of 1 – 10. Kids are encouraged to play again and again to find just the right combination of dance moves to earn that perfect 10!

Available at major retailers and The Disney Store, Dance Star Mickey is for ages 2 years and up and retails for $69.99. For more information please visit www.fisher-price.com/DanceStarMickey.

Meanwhile, Dr. Doofenshmirtz tries to get over his irrational fear of high diving, but he figures that if he can’t, he will just use his “Look-away-inator” to zap everyone so that they do not witness his shame.

“ZEKE AND LUTHER”

ABC Family And Starz Media Join Holiday Forces Again With “The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation”

ABC Family And Starz Media Join Holiday Forces Again With “The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation”

ABC Family and Starz Media will once again celebrate the holidays together this season, with the network buying the U.S. cable TV rights to the new live-action holiday movie, “The Dog Who Saved Christmas Vacation,” as part of its November “Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas” programming event.

A Starz Media presentation, the two-hour original movie, a sequel to last year’s “The Dog Who Saved Christmas,” makes its worldwide premiere on ABC Family on Sunday, November 28 at 8:00 PM ET/PT. Jeffrey Schenck and Barry Barnholtz are executive producers on the film, which was written by Michael Ciminera, Richard Gnolfo and Peter Sullivan, from a story by Schenck, Sullivan, Ciminera and Gnolfo. Michael Feifer directed the movie.

“Dog” features Paris Hilton (in her first voice-over role) as “Bella,” a French poodle who becomes the target of inept thieves during a holiday getaway. Returning as the voice of the misguided guard dog “Zeus,” in pursuit of Bella’s affections, is Mario Lopez. The movie also stars Gary Valentine (“The King of Queens”), Dean Cain (“Lois and Clark: The New Adventures of Superman,” “Out of Time”), Elisa Donovan (“Clueless,” “Sabrina, the Teenage Witch”), Casper Van Dien (Starship Troopers”), Joey Diaz (“The Deported,” “The Longest Yard”), Kayley Stallings (“Monk”), Brennan Bailey (“My Sister’s Keeper”), Mindy Sterling (the “Austin Powers” trilogy), Catherine Oxenberg (“Watch Over Me,” “Dynasty”), with Adrienne Barbeau (“Maude,” “Carnivale”).

“We had great success last year with ‘The Dog Who Saved Christmas,’ so it was an easy decision to revisit our favorite dog, Zeus, the Bannister family, and their holiday misadventures,” Starz Media Executive Vice President of Worldwide Distribution Gene George said. “And we couldn’t be happier to once again help ABC Family kick off its ‘Countdown to 25 Days of Christmas’ event. ABC Family is the ideal place for this family film to debut.”

“We’re very excited to be partnering again with Starz Media on this sequel,” said Tom Zappala, Executive Vice President, Program Acquisitions & Scheduling, Disney ABC Television Group. “Last year’s ‘The Dog Who Saved Christmas’ stood as one of the network’s biggest hits during our enormously popular holiday programming event.”

In its November 2009 television premiere on ABC Family, “The Dog Who Saved Christmas” became one of the season’s most-watched cable movies in Total Viewers (4.1 million).

Anchor Bay Entertainment, Starz Media’s market-leading home entertainment division, will release the movie on DVD just 10 days later, on December 7, 2010.

A Few Thoughts on My Trip.

A Few Thoughts on My Trip.

Just got back yesterday from Disney World and I wanted to share a couple of thoughts; I’ll blog more in-depth later.  This is the first trip I’ve taken where I specifically did a few things for the blog, so I have lots to say!  Here’s a brief run-down for now.

  • Pack early.  I was very busy the week before I left that I put off packing until the last minute.  As a result, I forgot a few things that I really needed. Like toothpaste. (Don’t worry, I got some).
  • Disney IS for grown-ups. A friend seemed surprised when I got back that I didn’t take the kids and when I told her that many adults go without their kids (or don’t have kids at all), she was shocked.
  • Don’t be shy.  If you’re a Disney fan, go to a meet-up. Follow your favorite bloggers and podcasters on Twitter and join them if you’re down there. They’re friendly and they like the same things you do!
  • The Halloween party is more than worth the cost. I don’t even like parades and this one had me mesmerized.
  • Don’t be afraid to go for a walk-up at your favorite restaurant.
  • Used Lines again. It was indispensable. Even showed a college cast member who approached me about it how to use it. If you’re on the fence, get it. It costs less than a burger and fries at Pecos Bills.
  • Via Napoli is probably my favorite new restaurant.  Disney finally got pizza right.
  • If you think you’re going back in the next year, buy an annual pass. Between the room discount (which I got at the last minute, after no general discounts were available) and merchandise and dining discounts, I’ve already saved about $150.
  • Resort theming is more important than I thought.
  • Going with a large group of people requires a lot of planning and coordination.
I’ll try to start putting up more later today and I’ll be answering some readers’ Q&A on different topics over at Chip and Co today as well, if you’d like to see those.  What a great trip!

Lefou, I’m Afraid I’ve Been Thinking…

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...

Tale as Old as Time: The Art and Making of Beauty and the BeastLefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...by Charles Solomon. 2010

Charles Solomon is a well-respected author and animation historian. The Disney That Never Was and Disney Lost and Found are two of his more recent Disney-related titles. Each one takes the reader on an amazing trip into the Animation Research Library (also known as The Morgue) to ferret out animation that never made it into production. Charles was approached by Don Hahn about writing a thoughtful and accurate portrayal of what it was like to produce Beauty and the BeastLefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking....

Charles succeeded and produced a beautiful look at a film that changed both the animation and the animators that created it forever.

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...

With a film as wildly successful as Beauty and the Beast, you would think that there wasn’t much left to write about. Charles does a fantastic job of interviewing the animators and digging up storyboards, sketches and artwork that relate the story of creating the film. Living in a post-Beauty world, it is hard to imagine the effect this film had. Tale as Old as Time does a fantastic job of bringing that story to life.

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...

Charles looks at the beginnings of this particular fairy tale and follows it all the way to Disney’s production on Broadway. The most touching parts of the work deal with the artists and their struggle to capture a story that would resonate on film. You gain a unique insight as to how a group of animators and producers came together to actualize such a moving and resonating film. One of the most telling aspects is when Howard Ashman and Alan Mencken are brought in to revitalize the project. It really is true that Ashman and Mencken gave the film its soul.

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...

This book is an amazing companion to the Blu-ray release of the film. The documentary Beyond Beauty, that is featured on the second disc, follows a similar path as the book. They complement each other and provide hours of cognizance for the Disney enthusiast and Beauty and the Beast fan. Where the documentary diverges is the ability to see early animated cartoons and to see the passion that the production crew had. The book offers magnificent reproductions of the artwork and Charles’ amazing research and writing skills.

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...

The artwork does steal the show yet not to the chagrin of the author. Beauty and the Beast is as compelling today as it was in 1991 and Tale as Old as TimeLefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking... reinforces the love that is held for the film. Production sketches, animated cels and background artwork fill every page. Some of the artwork provided is breathtaking.

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...

Tale as Old as Time is perfect for the animation and Beast fan. And Belle fan. Heck, it’s a great read for everyone who has seen the film.

Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking... Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking... Lefou, I'm Afraid I've Been Thinking...
