New Central Florida Tourism Oversight District Trash Cans Now at Disney Springs

New Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD) trash cans have been added to the parking garages at Disney Springs. The new cans are part of the district’s ongoing efforts to improve waste management in the area.

The Orange parking garage at Disney Springs now features new trash and recycling cans from the CFTOD. These white cans are marked with a black CFTOD logo.

While the second floor of the Orange parking garage has been equipped with new trash cans, the first floor still features older gray cans bearing the faded RCID logo.

It’s only a matter of time before trash cans emblazoned with the logo of the new state-run governing body that replaced the RCID are scattered throughout Disney Springs. This visual transformation comes as a direct result of the protracted legal battle between the CFTOD and The Walt Disney Company, which concluded with a settlement on March 27, 2024.

Following months of legal wrangling, including a lawsuit filed by Governor Ron DeSantis and the CFTOD against Walt Disney World on May 1, 2023, the two parties reached an agreement. This settlement, finalized on June 12, 2024, mandates a $17 billion investment by Disney in Florida over the next two decades. In exchange, Disney secured a development agreement that includes the potential for a fifth gate at Walt Disney World. The following day, Disney formally dropped its lawsuit against Governor DeSantis.

We have an exciting update for all you aspiring pirates. Due to ongoing construction near his usual meeting spot, the swashbuckling Captain Jack Sparrow has moved his meet and greet location to a new spot within Adventureland at Magic Kingdom.

Captain Jack Sparrow is now greeting guests at the (now closed) Tortuga Tavern, conveniently located near Pirates of the Caribbean as well as his former meeting spot. The location has been updated on the My Disney Experience app, this new meet and greet location is listed as “Adventureland, Near Tortuga Tavern.”

This new location will serve as the official meet and greet spot for Captain Jack Sparrow for the foreseeable future. As construction walls are prepped for installation at his old location, near the Plaza del Sol Caribe Bazaar, it appears that this change is here to stay for a while. While we do not yet have official confirmation on the reason for the construction walls, the update is widely believed to be assocaited with the highly anticipated Peg-Leg Pete lounge that was announced back in 2023 during the Destination D23 events.

Joffrey’s is the official specialty coffee of Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort and Disney Vacation Club, and the site of a Joffrey’s kiosk is one indication that you have arrived home at Walt Disney World. The Joffrey’s stand at the Ticket and Transportation Center is a popular spot to grab a cuppa Joe on your way into Magic Kingdom, but the area often left guests feeling a bit warm while enjoying their beverage in the hot Florida sun.

Thankfully, your days standing directly in the sun to enjoy your specialty coffee or tea drink have come to an end. Disney has installed a standing table under the shaded area that is attached to the right side of the stand.

Disney World Swan And Dolphin Appoints New Director of Food and Beverage

Walt Disney World’s Swan and Dolphin has appointed Greg Sherman as the new director of food and beverage, overseeing their extensive operation comprised of 23 world-class restaurants.

Sherman brings over 25 years of experience to the role, having held positions such as executive chef, general manager, regional general manager, and director of training and development.

Most recently, Sherman served as Chief Operating Officer at Rosa Mexicano, where he oversaw various aspects of the restaurant chain’s operations including culinary, beverage, and private dining. His impressive tenure included opening new locations, managing a large team, and implementing successful training programs.

In a press release, Swan and Dolphin representatives highlighted Sherman’s strong alignment with their company culture. They praised his diverse background, impressive achievements, and commitment to genuine hospitality.

“The food and beverage operation at Walt Disney World Swan and Dolphin is highly specialized,” said Sean Verney, Swan and Dolphin area general manager. “We are confident that Greg’s experience and skills make him an ideal fit for our team.”

Marvel Studios mastermind Kevin Feige is getting his Hollywood star! The iconic producer will be honored with a ceremony outside the legendary El Capitan Theatre later this month. This is well-deserved recognition for the visionary behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige is set to receive the 2,785th star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this Thursday, July 25th. The ceremony will take place outside the iconic El Capitan Theatre and will be live-streamed for fans worldwide. Feige’s star will grace the famed Hollywood Boulevard, a fitting tribute to the visionary behind the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Joining the celebration as guest speakers are Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman, adding even more star power to the event.

The Hungry Bear Restaurant, located in Critter Country, will be reimagined as the Hungry Bear Barbecue Jamboree, celebrating the Country Bears’ love of good food and good music.

According to Disney, guests will be able to sample regional barbecue dishes the Country Bears discovered while on tour, all while enjoying the band’s greatest hits. The restaurant’s transformation will include a complete overhaul of the menu and atmosphere, with an emphasis on the Country Bears’ unique brand of down-home charm.
