At “Prom,” every couple has a story and no two are exactly alike. Several intersecting stories unfold at one high school as the big dance approaches; “Prom” portrays the precarious passage from high school to independence as some relationships unravel and others ignite.  For Nova Prescott (Aimee Teegarden), it’s a battle of wills as she finds herself drawn to the guy (Thomas McDonell) who gets in the way of her perfect prom.
Fellow seniors Mei (Yin Chang) and Tyler (De’Vaughn Nixon) harbor secrets, while others face all the insecurity and anticipation that surrounds one of high school’s most seminal events. There are hundreds of nights in high school, but there’s only one “Prom.” Featuring an emerging ensemble cast and a powerful soundtrack, “Prom” hits theaters April 29, 2011.

Merry Mousemas!

Merry Mousemas!

I love Disneyland any time of year (especially the off-weeks during the year when the park isn’t that crowded). But Christmastime at the Disneyland Resort has to be my favorite time to visit the parks. The environment is so warm and welcoming, regardless of what the thermometer says. Wreaths, twinkling lights, snow, and the gigantic Christmas tree are all part of the magic.

During the holiday season, the magic is so thick in the air you can almost see it. Guests arrive super early for Disneyland’s famous candy canes (I, sadly, have never had one) and the scents of holiday-themed beverages wafts onto Main Street from Blue Ribbon Bakery. The holiday fireworks light up the night (and set off car alarms) all throughout the season. I’m lucky enough to be able to hear them from my house. They always let me know what time it is! And the falling “snow” at the very end is always fun. I turn to my left and see all the little ones twirling around and giggling, as if they were experiencing snowfall in the mountains a few hours away. I turn to my right and see happy couples laughing, smiling and embracing. It’s such a sweet moment.

I can’t forget about the decor. New Orleans Square is one of my favorite places to see decorated. I love the combination of traditional Christmas decorations mixed with colorful Mardis Gras beads and sparkling  masks. (I don’t have the time or money to go to New Orleans, so this is the closest I will get for a while.)

The best view, though, has to be Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. The snow scattered on top has that special Disney magic, so it never melts, even if it’s 90 degrees outside. (And if you’ve lived in SoCal, you know that it does happen in the fall/winter from time to time.) Once darkness falls, the castle is engulfed by purpley-pink lights, and lit up with strings of icicle lights. I like to take a moment and stand in the hub (if I’m not being pushed over to move) and take in the scene. It’s a must-do.

The point of all this? Go to Disneyland. See the lights, the snow, the magic!

Review: Search for Santa Paws

Review: Search for Santa Paws

My family and I had the opportunity to sit down and watch this movie the other night. My daughter who is a HUGE fan of any movie with dogs or puppies in it could not wait! She was so excited when we received it in the mail she wanted to watch it immediately.

I have never watched any of the Air Bud or Puppy movies Disney has released in the past so this is my first experience with the genre. It was very cute. The story is kinda sad and very unique.

For me it really bring the story of Christmas into focus and make you realize that you need be a kid again to really enjoy Christmas.

For parents of younger children there are a few scary moments. I am unsure why but my little one freaked out when she saw the furnace in the basement.

I was thinking how to place this movie or what this movie reminds me of. Its kinda like Beverly Hills Chihuahua meets Home Alone.

This is a great Christmas movie to get you in the mood for the holidays. I am not saying this is a classic, but it is very cute and if you little one is a fan of the puppies movies then this one will not disappoint.

If your going to buy this be sure to use the $10 off coupon here.

Let me know what you thought of the movie in the comment section below.

Disney World Quick Tips – Budget Considerations For Your Trip

Disney World Quick Tips - Budget Considerations For Your Trip

There are very few people who visit Walt Disney World without having to carefully plan and budget their available funds. I use a very measured and logical (at least to me) approach for budgeting each of our visits. First – I always try to start early enough so I can plan how much money we can put aside on a monthly basis to meet our needs. We go often enough and have enough separation between visits so that we now have a permanent savings plan that covers all of our requirements.

Once you have an idea of how much you will have available you can then budget. Make sure that you consider everything. This is a list of the things we consider:

  1. PLANNING MATERIALS: This would cover guide books and any subscription websites you use. Remember there are a lot of free websites i.e. Chip and Co and Passporter where information is available either on the site or in a site’s discussion boards.
  2. AIRFARE OR OTHER TRAVEL: This can be a significant and variable expense. Be sure to consider baggage fees and perhaps parking fees at the airport. These things can add up quickly. Also remember that there is transportation from the airport and back but Disney’s Magical Express is both excellent and FREE.
  3. RESORT HOTEL: This can also be significant and remember that Disney does not add the 12.5% tax on the base prices they herald on the site or advertising. You won’t see this until you actually total up. There are a lot of choices so you have to pick the resort that meets your physical and monetary needs. By the way, the All Star Resorts are in a different county and the tax is 13%.
  4. PARK TICKETS: Pretty straight forward budgeting here, just don’t buy options you will not use. Also please remember, when you see a ticket price, it does not include the 6.5% tax until you total up.
  5. MEALS: This can be difficult to budget accurately and everything depends on your family’s likes and eating habits. The various dining plans offered by Disney make budgeting food much easier if you can find one that meets your needs. Fear not, most people do well with at least one of the plans. Depending upon when you visit the Dining Plan might be free – be sure to ask!!
  6. SHOPPING AND OTHER EXTRAS: This is the most difficult category and only you know your family well enough to come up with a budget. I would suggest a daily limit and allow each individual to either spend it each day or carry it forward so they can do or buy whatever they want.

This isn’t comprehensive by any means but just a group of ideas so that you can feel confident that you haven’t missed anything in your budgeting process. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!

TRON: Legacy-Inspired Clothing Collection by Opening Ceremony and Disney

TRON: Legacy-Inspired Clothing Collection by Opening Ceremony and Disney

Opening Ceremony has collaborated with Disney Consumer Products to create a special capsule collection inspired by the new Walt Disney Pictures‘ film, TRON: Legacy. Opening Ceremony travels into the TRON universe where high-tech aesthetics and neon dominate to create a futuristic fashion collection.

TRON: Legacy’s cinematic elements influenced this special capsule collection, from the high-speed Light Cycles to the characters’ sleek uniforms. Incorporating the four main TRON colors, yellow, orange, blue, and black, the men’s collection features Moto jackets, racer jackets, patchwork poplin shirts, and racer-styled cargo pants. Tech-driven fabrics comprise this collection: industrial neoprene, Melton wool, high dimension corduroy, and organic cotton twill fabrics.

The women’s collection features bomber jackets with oversized funnel necks, snug scuba shirts, bodice dresses, seamed leggings and dresses with laser-cut ring patterns. The black raw edging found on neoprene styles was inspired by the exposed electronic circuits on TRON: Legacy uniforms, and the silhouettes of the Tulip Dress and Tulip Coat evoke the Light Cycle shape. Conceptualizing athletic performance, Opening Ceremony used stretch spandex with flat-lock stitching to create ergonomic, form-fitting styles.

Two accessories accompany the collection: a sculpted sock boot in neoprene and textured rubber and the Circle Bag, a three-way collaboration featuring ThreeASFOUR, in black or bronze leather. In collaboration with ThreeASFOUR, Opening Ceremony reintroduces the classic ThreeASFOUR Circle Bag as an interpretation of the Identity Disc weapon used in TRON: Legacy.

This collection ranges in retail price from $230 for Bodice Tanks to $575 for Moto Jackets. The collection will be available at Opening Ceremony New York, Los Angeles, Japan, Colette in Paris and Lane Crawford in Hong Kong on November 15, 2010.

Disney Honors Seattle Teen for Sportsmanship During Disneyland Half Marathon

Disney Honors Seattle Teen for Sportsmanship During Disneyland Half Marathon

Mickey Mouse and runDisney officials honor Sarah White, 16, of Seattle, WA, for her sportsmanship in giving her Mickey Medal from the 2010 Disneyland Half Marathon to a 76-year-old fellow runner.

A school-wide pep rally will be the backdrop when Disney presents the teen with a Mickey-themed race medal to replace the one she gave to Shirley Rackner of Portland, OR, who was injured in a fall just a half mile from the finish line. Rackner was unable to complete the Labor Day weekend race in Anaheim, CA to collect her medal. Rackner had surgery to attach a metal plate to her wrist and continues to recover.

The NEW TRON: Legacy Creative T-shirt Series

The NEW TRON: Legacy Creative T-shirt Series

Disney Consumer Products (DCP) has commissioned Fabien Baron, Douglas Lloyd & Lee Swillingham with Stuart Spalding to design a stylistic interpretation of TRON: Legacy, the high-tech 3D adventure releasing in U.S. theaters Dec. 17, 2010 in Disney Digital 3D™ and IMAX® 3D. The resulting designs will appear on the TRON: Legacy Creative Director T-shirt Series, a limited edition line for him and her comprised of three designs (one from each artist collaboration) for a total of six shirts. The line will be available only at the official Disney TRON Pop Up Shop at Royal/T in Culver City, CA (Nov. 19 – Dec. 23, 2010) and will retail for under $50.

“For the movie release of TRON: Legacy, we at Disney Consumer Products were presented the opportunity and challenge to think outside the box for consumer connectivity and relevance” said Stephanie Kraus, VP of Global Creative at Disney Consumer Products. “With that said, we picked these creative directors because they are at the top of their game when it comes to fashion, art and lifestyle editorial. Having them design a one-of-a-kind T-shirt inspired by their own connection points with TRON: Legacy provides not only an exclusive TRON Pop-Up Shop product for men and women, but also showcases their homage to the film.”

The TRON: Legacy Creative Director T-shirt Series:Fabien Baron
Fabiens design career includes being the creative director of Interview Magazine, French Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar and Barneys, New York. Also, as the founder and creative director of Baron & Baron, Fabien has crafted identities for the fashion, cosmetic and fragrance world’s most visible and influential brands including Calvin Klein, Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Balenciaga and Yves Saint Laurent. His singular vision is evident in a broad range of award-winning advertising campaigns, package designs, logos and graphics. Fabien has also applied his talents to the design of prominent books, and is renowned for his photography, as well as for directing ground breaking television commercials and music videos. He is the recipient of numerous design and art direction awards, including a special award for influence in art direction from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Fabien was inducted into the Art Directors Club Hall of Fame this year.

About Fabien’s design:
Fabien’s design separates good (Blue) vs. evil (Orange) – the classic color representations in the TRON world. This garment also contains fine cotton fabric, washed for a super-soft quality. For the men’s tee a unique hand-dying process generates a totally 80’s retro look, so no two shirts are exactly the same.

Douglas Lloyd
Douglas Lloyd is the founder and creative director of LLOYD&CO, a New York based creative agency specializing in fashion, beauty and luxury branding and advertising for clientele including Gucci, Estée Lauder, Yves Saint Laurent, Max Mara, John Varvatos, Oscar de la Renta, and many others. Prior, Douglas was the art director at Mademoiselle Magazine as well as art director at Barney’s New York. For his creative work, Douglas has received numerous design awards including the New York Type Directors Club, Photo Design, and American Photography, as well as many FIFI awards over the last 10 years. Douglas currently sits as a board member on the Museum of Modern Art’s Design & Architecture Committee.

About Douglas’ design
The iconic lightcycle from TRON: Legacy becomes distorted in Douglas’ design and practically races off the shirt, which also includes a hint of blue foil screen printed into the fabric.

“I wanted to play with the super recognizable TRON imagery in an unexpected way, so an abstraction of the extremely visual frames felt like a strong way to express the opposing forces in the TRON world. Quite literally, a visual mash-up of speed, time & energy,” said Douglas.

Lee Swillingham & Stuart Spalding
Lee and Stuart started their career as art director and art editor of The Face magazine, only one year after leaving art school. Eventually they co-founded a graphic design and advertising agency, Suburbia, and garnered prestigious awards from the Society of Publication Designers and the Art Directors Club of America. In 2009, they launched another successful magazine, Love for Conde Nast. They also continue to lecture, appear on adjudicating panels and win further awards.

About Lee and Stuart’s design:
Inspired by the geometry and graphics of TRON, this multi-colored graphic resembles TRON’s identity disc and represents good vs. evil through the color juxtaposition and treatment flat blue against orange.

“TRON was at the forefront of computer graphics in movies. When we were kids it blew our minds, and we wanted a design that reflected that,” said creative director Lee Swillingham.
