Great Vegetarian Options in Unexpected Places

Great Vegetarian Options in Unexpected Places

When I first started planning dining reservations at Disney I searched online to see what others recommended as the best places for vegetarians. While some places that were expected to be great were, Tusker House, others fell short, Boma (that one made me sad). But as we began visiting Walt Disney World more frequently, I expanded my horizons and gave other restaurants a chance and I was rewarded with some awesome vegetarian meals at some unexpected places.

Whispering Canyon Cafe
Whispering Canyon is known for their skillets filled meat, meat, and more meat. I initially made the reservation because I knew my husband would enjoy eating there. In September they changed up the menu some and were offering a new vegetarian/vegan option, sauteed red quinoa cakes. I loved it! The quinoa cakes came with a edamame salsa that was delicious and a beautiful salad. It looked and tasted like a meal from a signature restaurant.

Great Vegetarian Options in Unexpected Places

Le Cellier
We visited Le Cellier before the recent menu changes. I wasn’t too thrilled with the vegetarian option but we had an awesome server so I decided to ask if there was another option. She said she would be happy to ask the chef and came back with several options. I decided to go with a custom veggie risotto. It was amazing! The chef even came to our table to make sure we were enjoying out meals. So the lesson here is it never hurts to ask.

50’s Prime Time Cafe
This was another reservation I made with my husband in mind. I knew he would enjoy the fried chicken and while I wasn’t too keen on the vegetarian option I thought I would give it a try. Luckily this was another restaurant that had a menu changes that included something new for vegetarians, spaghetti and “meatballs” a multigrain pasta, vegetarian meatballs, and marinara sauce. I’m looking forward to having it again in a few weeks.

Great Vegetarian Options in Unexpected Places

Flying Fish Cafe
We have a goal to eat at all of the signature restaurants at Walt Disney World. Since we stayed at the Boardwalk in September we decided to try out Flying Fish Cafe. They are of course known for their seafood, my husband loved his, but they have a nice vegetarian option as well. You can choose from four of the sides and they will create a vegetarian bento box. Their menu is always changing but I had grilled summer crop asparagus, risotto, herb roasted mushrooms, and aged Gruyere and Parmigiano potato gratin. Everything was delicious and I highly recommend saving room for dessert.

Great Vegetarian Options in Unexpected Places

I hope this helps with some of your planning. What I’ve learned is that you never know where you might have an awesome vegetarian meal, it could be at a steak house. I think Disney and their chefs have done a great job making sure no matter where you eat that you have a great option. And remember, if you don’t see something that appeals to you just ask your server if there are other options available.

Disney Parks Celebrates 5th Annual Walt Disney World Moms Panel Allowing Guests to Ask Vacation Planning Questions in Spanish

Included in the Fifteen New Park-Savvy Panelists are the First-Ever Disneyland Resort and runDisney Specialists

Disney Parks announced today the Walt Disney World Moms Panel has unveiled a new feature – the panelists can receive and answer guests’ questions in Spanish. In addition to the first-ever bilingual offerings, two new specialty areas will be added to the site − Disneyland Resort and runDisney. These features are available to guests at www.DisneyWorldMoms.com.

The Walt Disney World Moms Panel is an online forum that serves as a resource for planning Disney Parks vacations. From the most thrilling attractions at Disneyland Resort and how to make the most of Disney Vacation Club points at Walt Disney World Resort to the decks of Disney Cruise Line and immersive international itineraries of Adventures by Disney, the Walt Disney World Moms Panel advice and their own experiences to help turn dream vacations into reality. As the Moms Panel expands, Disney Parks will look to rebrand in 2012 with exciting details to come later this year.

“When we first launched the Moms Panel in 2008, we dreamed of offering guests the ability to ask questions in various languages. Launching the Spanish option in our fifth year turned our dreams into reality and we’re excited to see the questions and new visitors to the site that come as a result of these new features,” said Leanne Jakubowski, Director, Social Media; Walt Disney World Resort.” As Walt once said, ‘You can design and create, and build the most wonderful place in the world. But it takes people to make the dream a reality.’ The Walt Disney World Moms Panel is living proof of that statement and we believe Walt would be proud of the magic our panelists are making for families around the world.”

Disney Parks received thousands of applications from the U.S., Canada and United Kingdom to be considered for the Walt Disney World Moms Panel. Each panelist went through three rounds of interviews before they were selected to follow in the footsteps of more than 60 moms, dads, grandparents and guardians who have signed on to share their knowledge and passion for the Disney  brand with others.

Disney Announces Another New Movie Project – Hovercar

Disney Announces Another New Movie Project - Hovercar

Disney movie project announcements keep coming. Earlier this week Disney found directors for two long awaited projects, Maleficent and the as yet titled Matterhorn movie. The newest announcement from The Hollywood Reporter is that Disney has brought on Dan Harris (X2, Superman Returns) to work on the script for Hovercar.

Hovercar would be a sci-fi adventure movie based on Matthew Riley’s young adult novel Hover Car Racer. The book is set in the future where we travel in vehicles that float just a few feet off the ground. Racing these vehicles is an alluring sport and we follow Jason Chaser as he attends an international race school.

We’ll keep you posted as this project develops.

Healthy Eating at Walt Disney World Resort

It’s time for New Year’s resolutions and vacation can be the worst time to stick to healthy eating – but you can forego the funnel cakes, sundaes and oversized burgers and eat with delicious satisfaction in all four Walt Disney World Resort theme parks.

Here are some of our favorite healthful eats:

Grilled Salmon with Fresh Steamed Broccoli and Couscous at Columbia Harbor House at Magic Kingdom Park

Magic Kingdom Park – The grilled salmon with fresh steamed broccoli and couscous at Columbia Harbor House is our go-to option when we’re in a hurry. With more time, we head to The Crystal Palace to fill up, not out, with edamame salad; shrimp, mango and black bean salad; turkey vegetable soup; beet salad; papaya and arugula salad; Thai curry mussels, and roast turkey.

Edamame Salad at The Crystal Palace at Magic Kingdom Park

Epcot – The options seem endless as we stroll World Showcase. Sushi in the Japan Pavilion; grilled veggie tacos at La Hacienda de San Angel in the Mexico Pavilion (ask for the vegetarian menu); the Chinese chicken salad at Nine Dragons Restaurant in the China Pavilion; the lemon chicken or kebabs at Restaurant Marrakesh in the Morocco Pavilion; the vegetable curry with lentil bread at Rose & Crown Pub & Dining Room in the United Kingdom Pavilion, and the jumbo shrimp with cannellini beans, olive oil and lemon juice at Via Napoli in the Italy Pavilion.

The Grilled Veggie Sandwich at Backlot Express at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney’s Hollywood Studios – The grilled veggie sandwich at Backlot Express (forego the fries and eat the carrot sticks) for a quick lunch. For dinner, we head to Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano for a bowl of the whole-wheat campanelle pasta (shaped like a little bell) served with broccoli, sun-dried tomatoes, fresh spinach and sweet onions.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park – We head straight to Flame Tree Barbecue for the house-smoked half chicken (we splurge and eat the baked beans and corn muffin, but say no to the onion rings). For a bigger feast, it’s Tusker House Restaurant, where you can pick and choose from all sorts of salads; spiced tandoori tofu; couscous with roasted veggies; salmon, and curry chicken.

Tell us yours!

Disney's family interested in buying Dodgers

Representatives confirmed that the family of the late Roy E. Disney is looking at teaming up with other investors to make a bid for the Dodgers by the Jan. 23 deadline.

Roy Disney was the nephew of Walt Disney, but the family’s investments are not tied to the Walt Disney Company.

If a bid is made, the Disney family would become one of several high-profile groups looking to buy the team from Frank McCourt, who agreed to sell the team by April 30.
