Disney To Screen The River in Theaters

Disney To Screen The River in Theaters

According to the Wall Street Journal, ABC is planning to screen the premiere episode of The River in theaters and on college campuses. The strategy, known as pre-sampling, is being used by several other TV networks to catch viewers attention. With more and more viewers turning to cable and Internet outlets, ABC hopes the move will get people to notice.

The River is a paranormal mystery that centers the disappearance of wildlife expert and TV personality Dr. Emmit Cole in the Amazon and the journey of his family, friends, and TV crew to find him. It was created and is produced by Orin Peli (Paranormal Activity) and Micheal R. Perry (The Practice, NYPD Blue) and looks both creepy and intriguing.

ABC hopes The River along with other new shows and current hit Once Upon a Time will increase ratings and appeal to the sought after 18-49 year old demographic.

The series will premier on ABC February 27, 2012.

McCallum Reveals New Details About “Star Wars: Underworld” TV Series

McCallum Reveals New Details About "Star Wars: Underworld" TV Series

The internet is buzzing yet again regarding George Lucas’ Star Wars television project. Prequels producer Rick McCallum, called the live-action series “Star Wars: Underworld” in a recent interview with IGN. This project has been in the pre-production phase now for several years and is said to take place during the time spanning “Revenge of the Sith” and “A New Hope” (while Luke and Leia are growing up).

McCallum and Lucas have gone on record as saying that Lucasfilm would like to finance the project themselves instead of networks holding interest of the project. They are also developing new technologies in terms of productions to keep to a television budget.

Lucas and company are currently working on the highly successful “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” animated series for Cartoon Network and will be releasing his long awaited “Red Tails” World War II drama January 20th. Also in development is “Star Wars: Detours” a project being developed with Seth Green (Robot Chicken). “Star Wars – Episode I: The Phantom Menace 3D” will hit theaters on February 10, 2012.

Rob Marshall and Disney to Bring Into the Woods to the Big Screen

Rob Marshall and Disney to Bring Into the Woods to the Big Screen

The Hollywood Reporter announced that Disney has tapped Rob Marshall to direct the studios film adaptation of Into the Woods. Marshall is no stranger to movie musicals having directed Chicago and Nine. The Oscar nominated director most recently teamed with Disney to direct Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

Into the Woods is a  musical with music and lyrics written by Steven Sondheim, and is based on the book by James Lapine. The story features several fairytale characters including Rapunzel, Cinderella, and Little Red Riding Hood. Their stories are tied together with the tale of a baker, his wife, and their journey to start a family. Lapine is currently working on the script for the film adaptation and Sondheim is expected to write some original songs for the film.

I have always wanted to see a production of Into the Woods so I am really excited about this project and I can’t wait to see who they cast in the various roles. Stay tuned to Chip and Company for more news as this project develops.

Disney Dream Cruise: Pirate Night

Disney Dream Cruise: Pirate Night

After a wonderful day spent on the beautiful beaches of Castaway Cay, we were all welcomed to attend a unique pirate celebration onboard the Dream. Upon returning to the stateroom, we found a note along with 4 pirate bandanas (one for each of us) inviting us to don the bandanas for dinner and to dress up in our pirate attire. Although dressing in character is optional, we are no party poopers; we dress for the party.

Our pirate dinner was enjoyed at the Royal Palace. You can see great pics from this at my website, Ideally Disney. After dinner, the nighttime festivities really kicked off at Mickey’s Pirates In The Caribbean. This full-out pirate celebration included a chance to play, dance and acquire all the necessary pirate skills required to become an official member of Mickey’s pirate crew!

A special and one-of-a-kind element of the celebration was Buccaneer Blast Fireworks, an awesome fireworks display by the only cruise line able to offer fireworks at sea. After the fireworks, we were able to dance, dance, dance and party down with DJ Automatic at Club Pirate on deck.

An awesome time was had by all, full of lots of fun and special new memories. This was a delightful way to spend an evening with family in a fun, party atmosphere!

Disney XD Premiering Lab Rats A Comedy About A Teenager And His Three Super-Human Siblings, On Monday, February 27

Disney XD Premiering Lab Rats A Comedy About A Teenager And His Three Super-Human Siblings, On Monday, February 27

Stars Billy Unger, Spencer Boldman, Kelli Berglund and Tyrel Jackson Williams Host the Night

Powered by its biggest yearly ratings ever, Disney XD will premiere more original content with “Lab Rats,” a comedy series about a teenager and his newfound “siblings,” a trio of super-human teens, who together must navigate typical high school and — not so typical — bionic glitches. The series will join Disney XD’s popular “Monday Mayhem” comedy block — led by the channel’s #1 series “Kickin’ It” — with a special one-hour episode on MONDAY, FEBRUARY 27 (8:30–9:30 p.m., ET/PT) hosted by the cast.

Created by Chris Peterson and Bryan Moore (“That ’70s Show”) who, with Mark Brazill (“That ’70s Show,” “3rd Rock from the Sun”) serve as executive producers, “Lab Rats” introduces Leo just as he settles into the high-tech home he shares with his inventor stepdad, Donald Davenport, his mom, Tasha, and Eddy, the “smart house” computer. There he discovers a secret underground lab with three experiments, super-human teens: Adam the strong one, Bree the fast one and Chase the smart one. The trio, eager to leave their confines, convinces Leo and his parents to let them join him at school where they try to fit in while trying to manage their unpredictable bionic strengths. Along the way, they help Leo build self confidence while he figures out a way to keep their bionic abilities a secret from the world.

Starring are Billy Unger (“You Again”) as Chase, Spencer Boldman (“I’m in the Band”) as Adam, Kelli Berglund (“Hip Hop Harry”) as Bree, with Tyrel Jackson Williams (“Failure to Launch,” “Pair of Kings”) as Leo and Hal Sparks (E!’s “Talk Soup”) as Davenport. Recurring are Angel Parker (“Hannah Montana”) as Tasha and Will Forte (“Saturday Night Live”) as the voice of Eddy.

The multiplatform roll-out is:

Friday, January 20

Monday, February 27

Another game will launch on DisneyXD.com.

(8:30 p.m., ET/PT) – “Lab Rats” Series Premiere

In “Crush, Chop, and Burn,” Leo discovers three teen super-humans — Adam, Bree and Chase — living in a secret underground lab in his new home. Leo takes them to school, but when their bionic abilities suddenly discharge on campus, Leo’s stepdad, Davenport, sends them away to a remote secret lab, and now Leo must find a way to save his new friends.

Directly following the premiere on air, the series premiere episode will be available on DisneyXD.com.

Tuesday, February 28

“Lab Rats” series premiere available on Disney XD Mobile VOD available via AT&T U-Verse, MobiTV, Sprint and Verizon; along with iTunes, Xbox Live and Sony Playstation.

“Lab Rats” is a production of It’s A Laugh Productions, Inc. It carries a TV-G parental guideline.

In 2011, Disney XD surged to its biggest year in the platform’s history (including its 10 years as Toon Disney) with strong performances by a roster of original series — most notably its top two series, “Kickin’ It” and “Pair of Kings” — along with the channel debut of the movie “Phineas and Ferb: Across the 2nd Dimension.” The yearly ratings records were set in Total Day and Prime in Total Viewers and all target kid and boy demographics, 2-11, 6-14, 6-11 and 9-14. Disney XD’s 2011 ratings surpassed year-ago results by double-digit percentages across core kid demographics, making it the growth leader among all channels serving kids.

Capturing Disney in Pictures: A Fan’s Darth Vader Encounter

Capturing Disney in Pictures: A Fan's Darth Vader Encounter
Brittany Monoski's Photo Encounter With Darth Vader

Every photo has a story…

In July of 2011, Chip & Company fan Brittany Monoski took her husband and three children on a trip from from Pennsylvania to Walt Disney World.  It was their second trip to Disney as a family.  Brittany said, “Our first trip, in 2010, did not go well because my oldest child was extremely sick with a 102 fever for much of the trip.  We decided to try again in 2011, and while we originally had a trip planned for June, my husband found out that he needed emergency back surgery the day before our trip  We were devastated!  Just imagine having to cancel the day before you were supposed to leave!” Brittany said her husband’s health was most important, of course, and because his surgery went well, they were able to stay at the Boardwalk Villas about 6 weeks later in July.
Picture this…  No stranger to illness on a Disney vacation, Brittany’s oldest son, Parker,  started feeling sick when they arrived at Hollywood Studios.  Brittany relates how she took the photo, “My husband took Parker back to the hotel room.  In the meanwhile, my daughter, youngest son, and I were on our own.  We stopped to see the Jedi Training because we wanted to get a picture of Darth Vader for Parker, since one of his favorite things is Star Wars.  He just loved it!  And, the pixie dust must have been with us that day, because after a couple of hours, he felt better.  So he and my husband came back to Hollywood Studios to meet us for dinner.”

Thanks, Brittany, for sending in your photo and your story, and thank you Chip & Company fans for coming along for a photographical ride!

It’s Not Easy Being Green?

It's Not Easy Being Green?

Kermit always said “It’s not easy being green” but that was before he hopped aboard the Disney Fantasy.

The Disney Fantasy hit the water outside of the Meyer Werft shipyard (Papenburg, Germany) over the weekend as construction continues on Disney’s latest ship.  The exterior of the ship may be blue but the interior is all green.

Disney Cruise Line is continuing their commitment to the environment by utilizing environmentally friendly materials inside and out. Here are 10 of the ways Disney Cruise Line is “green”.

  • The coating on the ships is 100% non-toxic and increases fuel efficiency by reducing surface resistance in the open water.
  • Evaporators are used to turn tons of sea water into potable water onboard each day.
  • Cooking oil from the ships is recycled and turned into a biodiesel mix of fuel to operate heavy machinery on Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island).
  • Energy efficiency is maintained by using automated onboard air conditioning, energy efficient bulbs and encouraging guests to re-use bath towels.
  • All Disney ships feature the Advance Wastewater Purification System, which is a natural process that treats and purifies onboard wastewater to levels exceeding international shipping standards.
  • Organic and biodegradable cleaning products are used wherever possible to avoid harmful phosphates and chemicals.
  • They are dedicated to using ship building processes that are environmentally responsible and an efficient use of resources.
  • The newer ships have improved hyrdrodynamics with optimized propulsion systems to increase efficiency.
  • The flooring is made from sustainable, organic and recyclable alternatives.
  • Trash receptacles feature dividers for trash, plastic and cans.

Disney Cruise Line environmental programs have:

  • Eliminated more than 4,600 tons of metal, glass, plastic and paper by recycling
  • Removed 31,000 lbs of trash and debris from beaches and waterways
  • Removed more than 20,000 plastic bags from the waste stream by featuring reusable cotton laundry bags
  • Conserved tons of fresh water each day by reclaiming naturally occurring condensation
  • Inspired more than 3,100 children in the Cayman Islands through participation in programs like Disney’s Planet Challenge.

When you board a Disney Cruise Line ship you can feel good about making an environmentally friendly choice and see how easy it is to be green!
