New ‘John Carter’ Clip and Sizzle Reel

Disney has released a new clip, as well as a sizzle reel, for their newest live action film, ‘John Cater’, based on the Barsoom series written by Edgar Rice Burroughs over a century ago. The film, directed by Andrew Stanton (Finding Nemo, Wall-E), is a science fiction adventure film for the whole family to enjoy. Starring Taylor Kitsch as John Carter, the movie revolves around a Civil War soldier who wakes up to find himself somehow transported to Mars, and finds out he is the only person who can save the planet and it’s inhabitants from certain destruction. Our review will be up soon, but I can promise you the movie is a lot of fun and definitely worth checking out!  Hit the jump to check out the newest clip and sizzle reel and let me know what you think!

Marvel Gives First Look at 'John Carter: The Gods of Mars' Comic Adaptation

Based on the novel series the newest Disney film, ‘John Carter’, is based on by Edgar Rice Burroughs, this is an adaptation of the second book in the Barsoom series, ‘The Gods of Mars’. Edgar Wright to Direct Johnny Depp in Disney’s ‘The Night Stalker’

Edgar Wright to Direct Johnny Depp in Disney's 'The Night Stalker'

Deadline is reporting that Disney has tapped Edgar Wright to The Night Stalker. The movie will be based on the ABC telepic and series of the same name. Depp would play Carl Kolchak, a reporter who always seems to find a supernatural connection to the stories he is investigating.

Wright is best known for directing one of my favorite movies Scott Pilgrim vs the World. His style combined with Depp’s ability to create eccentric characters has me extremely interested The Night Stalker. Since there is currently no script for the film, Wright and Depp will work together along with Depp’s producing partner Christi Dembrowski to adapt the material. Since Wright also has screenwriting experience, it is possible that he could be tapped to pen the script as well.

All new Brave Poster and Trailer from Pixar

All new Brave Poster and Trailer from Pixar

If you missed the debut of the new trailer for Brave, watch it below! I am still kinda up in the air on this movie. My little one doesn’t really seem interested in it and I imagine most little princesses will feel the same way. I think it has to much of a dark look to it. What do you think?

Here is the official synopsis:

Merida is a skilled archer and impetuous daughter of King Fergus and Queen Elinor. Determined to carve her own path in life, Merida defies an age-old custom sacred to the uproarious lords of the land: massive Lord MacGuffin, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall. Merida’s actions inadvertently unleash chaos and fury in the kingdom, and when she turns to an eccentric old Witch for help, she is granted an ill-fated wish. The ensuing peril forces Merida to discover the meaning of true bravery in order to undo a beastly curse before it’s too late.

Coming this June.

Disney Cruise Tips – Dinner Attire on Disney Cruise Line

Disney Cruise Tips - Dinner Attire on Disney Cruise Line

New cruisers always ask the same question:

“What do I wear to dinner?”

Before you purchase a new ball gown or a tuxedo…relax and take a deep breath. Disney Cruise Line knows how spiffy you’d look in a floor length sequined gown, they also know that wrangling your child into a high chair while wearing said gown is not practical.

The dining rooms range from casual and comfortable to elegant and your wardrobe will rotate with your dining schedule. So what should you plan to wear to dinner?

Men:

  • Regular Dining Attire: Casual open collared shirts (polo style shirts) and slacks (such as khakis). Jeans are ok everywhere but Palo and Remy.
  • Dress Up Night: A tad more upscale. Most men don jackets (not required). Jackets are required if you are dining at Palo or Remy.

Women:

Regular Dining Attire: Blouse and skirt or casual dress

  • Dress Up Night: A tad more upscale-dresses, skirts, etc. If you are dining at Palo or Remy you’ll want a dress or pantsuit.

General no-no’s:

  • No shorts in the dining rooms please
  • No swimwear in the dining rooms please
  • No open toed shoes at Remy or Palo (particularly for men)

Pirate Night:

  • This seems to be everyone favorite night. Could be that Disney Cruise Line is the only ship allowed to set off fireworks at sea, could be the deck parties or the buffet or the general atmosphere on the ship that night. Regardless, you’ll see that anything goes on this night. Red “Pirates IN the Caribbean” bandanas are distributed at dinner and many folks bring pirate attire along with them. On the Disney Fantasy the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will transform into the Pirates League and offer transformations for the entire family.

Top Five Theme Park Fashion Mistakes.

Top Five Theme Park Fashion Mistakes.

1. “The Fanny Pack Avenger.”  Remember back in the early 90s when people first started wearing fanny packs?  Remember how great they were? Yeah, me neither.   But, you can laugh now, but when you need a band-aid or a can of Fix-a-Flat or just about anything, guess who you’ll be asking for help? I love this article by Brenda called Fanny Packs: Just say no!

2. The “Not-So-Rugged Individualist.”  Okay, I can’t pick on this guy because I kind of love him. Plus, the boots.  They’re pretty great, huh?  This guy doesn’t care what you think and he is all the more awesome for it.

3. The “One Hot Momma.”  This momma doesn’t stop, even for the theme parks. She’s usually spotted in more skimpy attire, but the one thing she has in common with all Hot Mommas is her devotion to high heels. Just look at Victoria Beckham, otherwise known as “Posh Spice,” walking around Disneyland. Note the big purse, office-ready attire, and the dangerously high heels that are her signature shoe.  Hat’s off to you, Posh and all the other Hot Mommas:   I’m pretty sure I couldn’t walk around all day in a theme park in four-inch spike heels.

4.  Mr. “Socks with Sandals.”  You know what? I’ve done this. Let’s just move on.

5.  “Offensive T-Shirt Guy.”  Offensive T-Shirt Guy would like you to know that he’s so bad, he’s wearing an obscene t-shirt that he bought for $14.99–in a theme park!  I know, I was impressed too!  Sometimes this guy gets past security and you’re stuck behind him waiting for Splash Mountain.   Encourage him to sit in the front seat when his turn comes.

Getting your hair cut at Walt Disney World

Getting your hair cut at Walt Disney World

One of my daughters “official firsts” happened at Walt Disney World in the barber shop. Her first haircut. (Well, not technically her first, she cut her bangs herself, ugh)

I’m fairly sure that my daughter is somehow related to Rapunzel. Her hair grows extremely fast, which we realized very early in her life. So we decided that we would wait to do her first haircut until we knew that she would have enough hair to donate it to Locks of Love.

If you don’t know anything about Locks of Love it is a “public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 21 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.” Their mission is to “return a sense of self, confidence and normalcy to children suffering from hair loss by utilizing donated ponytails to provide the highest quality hair prosthetics to financially disadvantaged children. The children receive hair prostheses free of charge or on a sliding scale, based on financial need.” – Locks of Love website.

Getting your hair cut at Walt Disney World

As you can see, Diva Daughter had really beautiful PERFECT curls and because we were not positive that the curls would stay after her hair was cut (which they didn’t) we wanted to make sure at least some young lady would be able to enjoy those beautiful perfect spiral curls.

At the time we had Diva Daughter’s hair cut the “Harmony Barber Shop” had no appointment schedule, so you never knew how long you had to wait, but as of July 2010 the Barber Shop began taking appointments which you can make by calling 407-WDW-DINE or at the lobby concierge at your Disney Resort. This is EXCELLENT news because the wait was really the biggest down-side.

TIMG_8732he Harmony Barber Shop, which is open from 9am till 5pm, seven days a week, has three barber chairs there so at least three people SHOULD be able to get hair cuts at any given time, but the three times we’ve been there we’ve never seen more than two people cutting hair.

We had sort of false impression of what we would be getting. Seeing as it was named the Harmony Barbershop we were expecting almost character-style hairstylists, maybe even a little singing. Which did NOT happen. I personally didn’t find it much different than any other haircut you would get at a walk-in hair salon in a mini-mall.

Haircuts are $19.00 for adults and $15.00 for children under 12 (before tip). One of the special things is the pixie dust that they will sprinkle in your hair and the colored hair gel that you can have added. You can get a “1st Haircut” special that has a certificate and mickey ears that have “First haircut” embroidered in them for only $18.00.

It’s a good memory. And of course its nice to be able to say that your child got their hair cut at Disney World. Its part of what makes Disney special. But it does take time, time you could be riding rides because its inside the park, so just make sure its something you REALLY want to do before you make your reservation.

My son and my husband have also had his hair cut there. My son had a mickey mouse put into the back of his head in red gel for $5.00 extra, which he liked.

The Mandara Spa at the Walt Disney World Dolphin Resort Hotel also has a full-service hair salon where you can get a cut, color, perm, or just style for the night out. Reservations can be made by calling (407) 934-4772. However, guests under the age of 18 must have a parent or guardian present during services.

There are other spas on Disney property, but to my knowledge these are the only two that offer haircuts, however Disney’s Grand Floridian Spa is currently down for refurbishment until early 2013, and may provide this service when they re-open.

So if your children get gum in their hair that you just can NOT get out, or you just realize any of you are  looking a little shabbier in those pictures than you’d like, men and women, girls and boys alike can all get a cut while on vacation to Walt Disney World.
