“WDW Pics” App Makes Walt Disney World Wallpaper Easy for your iPhone and iPad

"WDW Pics" App Makes Walt Disney World Wallpaper Easy for your iPhone and iPad

“WDW Pics” App for iPhone and iPad bring magical looks to your drab mobile device.

If you’re like me, you’re tired of the same ole drab wallpapers for your iPhone. The “WDW Pics” App brings over 110 high quality images to your iPhone and iPad for use on your lock/home screens for only 99 cents!

Photographers Tom Bricker, Cory Disbrow, Paul Gowder and Matt Pasant have an incredible eyes for color and composition. They have captured magical moments during the day and evening from the Magic Kingdom, Animal Kingdom, Disney Hollywood Studios, Epcot and the Disney Resorts. What’s great about all of these pictures is the fact that there are little to no tourists on them. The depth and warm colors will make you grin from ear-to-ear as if you were there at that very moment.

Using the app is simple. No cropping is required when making these into your wallpaper. There are some pictures that you may want to change the orientation of if you use your iPad in landscape (horizontal) view. Just start the app. Select the picture and tap the button to save it into your photo roll. From there select the picture in your photo roll and tap the “save as wallpaper” option. It’s that simple. The process is similar for the iPad as well.

The only drawback to this app is the “Order Prints” feature. When clicking on that button it would launch the iPhone’s web browser to a picture page. From there you could select a photo to see a close up but there was not tab to select the size or complete the purchase. Personally I would leave that feature out until it is ready for a future update.

Overall the App is a fun way to change your wallpapers on the fly without having to search the internet for it. Some have mentioned on the App review page that you could save the money and download those pictures somewhere else and that is true but I believe the convenience of the app as well as the quality of the pictures is what I like the most. At under $.99 per photo it is a real bargain and a must-have for Disney fans with iPhones and iPads.

"WDW Pics" App Makes Walt Disney World Wallpaper Easy for your iPhone and iPad

The good…

Ease of use and beautiful pictures make this App a bargain at $.99 – that’s under a cent per photo!

Meh…

The App’s “Order Print” function doesn’t work. If they do intend to sell those photos I’m sure they will fix it in the upcoming patch. If it’s not ready than they should just pull the feature until it’s ready.

Bottom Line…

Great App if you like photos and changing of your iPhone/iPad frequently with great shots of the Walt Disney World Resort.

Disney World Quick Tips: Ways to help your aching feet and legs

Disney World Quick Tips: Ways to help your aching feet and legsWhen I was at Disney World last week I decided to turn on my Garmin watch for 5 hours and see how far I walked. 11 miles. I walked ELEVEN MILES in 5 hours! Now I have been training for the Princess Half Marathon for about 6 months. So I’ve basically been in a constant state of “soreness”, so it didn’t bother me that much. However my dear friend Lisa, well her legs and feet ached.

They hurt so much she couldn’t even fall asleep.

And she’s not alone! Every day moms and dads long for a stroller of their own as they hoof it around Walt Disney World.

There are things you can do that will help like making sure you wear appropriate shoes, make sure that you’ve blister-proofed your feet and more, but what do you do when your legs and feet are throbbing from over-use?

Disney World Quick Tips: Ways to help your aching feet and legs

Well my first suggestion would be to make sure you pack icy-hot! You can get it at your local grocery store or drug store. Yes, its stinky, but you’ll be oh so happy that you opted for it.

Disney World Quick Tips: Ways to help your aching feet and legs

If you struggle with tight calves, quads and hamstrings anyway I would suggest purchasing “The Stick” you can find this wonderful tool online or at your local running store. The Stick is literally the best thing I own right now. It helps me work out the tight knots in my muscles and makes me feel so much better. Its my favorite thing currently!

A third item you might like is Pepsom salt. It is a great soak that is all natural that will naturally pull out some of the pain. You can also find it at many drug stores and some grocery stores.

Your legs and feet are going to take a beating while you enjoy Walt Disney World, but you can recover faster by packing these goodies! Don’t forget!!

How to Tour the Parks – Zigging and Zagging Your Way Around Disney

How to Tour the Parks - Zigging and Zagging Your Way Around Disney

One of the most important things to know when planning your days at Walt Disney World is that you may need to adjust your itinerary based on the habits of the other guests. Learning to zig while others zag is based on experiencing the parks on different days and at different times of the year with varying crowds. There are many books and phone apps available that speak directly to planning your day in the parks. They are helpful as far as crowds, but I have been to the park on uncharacteristically-crowded days 3 times this year alone. The crowds are growing, so flexibility might help. In other words, plan your time for less stress and more fun by not going with the flow. I am referring to modifying your plan when you are faced with the unexpected. There are many ways to conform to your unique travel circumstances whether at the resort or at any of the four Disney parks.

If you have planned to have breakfast at 7:00 on your first day at the resort and you are greeted with no tables at which to sit, long lines of guests waiting to order and to pay for food, or a loud and chaotic environment, then you might want to rethink your breakfast time on day two. In this scenario, you may wish to plan to sleep in a little while, have breakfast at the resort at 9:30 or 10:00, and then stay at the park later. Conversely, you may want to get up extra early, have breakfast in the room then head out to early extra magic hours. The choice is yours.

During my trip for Walt Disney World’s 40th Anniversary, our itinerary for Friday included Hollywood Studios from opening until around 5 p.m. and then to Downtown Disney for some shopping. We went out to the bus stop at Port Orleans Riverside and there was a massive crowd waiting for the Hollywood Studios bus, so I quickly thought and asked my friend if she wouldn’t mind flip-flopping our day and while all the crowd zigged to DHS, we zagged on a bus with just 3 other people to Downtown. After we finished our shopping, we dropped our packages at the resort, filled up our mugs and caught an empty bus to the Studios. When we arrived there (mid-afternoon), most of the crowds had already left and we had a very enjoyable evening with short ride lines.

Two more specific tips I can provide are based on your choice of resort and your choice of park ticket. If you are staying at a Disney resort, taking advantage of extra magic hours is a great idea. But, if you are not staying on Disney property, you will want to avoid the selected Extra Magic Hour parks on those days. Also, having park hopper tickets provides maximum flexibility, so if you can purchase these, I highly recommend it.

Times to zig when touring the Magic Kingdom might be when everyone is lining up to watch the parade and you have either seen it before or will be watching it later. Take advantage of this opportunity by riding the most popular rides during parade time. If you will be visiting MK for two days, you may want to watch the afternoon parade and use the evening parade time for this purpose on the first day, then do the opposite on your second day in the park.

Learning to zig at Disney Hollywood Studios will save you a lot of aggravation with the right planning. For instance, it is never a good time to head for the Backlot Tour line when Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show has just let out. Traditionally, guests head to the Backlot Tour immediately after the show ends, as it is in close proximity. The times guide for the park lists the show times for the 33-minute stunt show so follow this guideline – unless you are seeing the show, avoid the backlot area if it is 1 to 1 ½ hours after the scheduled start time of Lights, Motors, Action! Extreme Stunt Show! There are only 2-3 shows per day so this should be easy enough.

Also, many people think that right after the parade ends on Hollywood Boulevard is the perfect time to ride The Great Movie Ride so you should do this before the parade or at least an hour after, if possible.

There are a few high demand rides at Epcot that may warrant some zigging. Both Soarin’ and Test Track get very crowded very quickly and they also run out of fast passes by early afternoon. When entering Epcot during park opening, pay attention to the flow of the crowd. If it looks as if most of the crowd is heading toward Soarin’, ride Test Track first. If it looks like more folks are heading toward Test Track, then ride Soarin’ first. Either way, be sure that after you are off the first ride you head straight to the other to grab a fast pass for later. My family usually rides Test Track first, regardless, because of the limited capacity vehicles making the line go slower.

The Animal Kingdom has an opening show 15 minutes before the park opens, so I would suggest making that if you can. First thing in the morning, you will want to head to your favorites so you can ride them before the large crowds arrive about mid-morning. If the crowds build early and you don’t want to wait out the lines, just zig over to a show. I have found that the most crowded times of the day also happen to be the hottest part of the day during Spring and Summer months. Saving the indoor shows and rides for the middle of the day, then, will serve you well for a few reasons: it will give you relief during the hottest part of the day; it will provide you with a place to sit and rest and enjoy a show; and the shows are in large capacity facilities so many people can attend at one time.

In late afternoon, go back and ride all the rides you had to skip earlier. If too many people are following along with the same advice and it is just too crowded, then regroup and go back to the resort for a swim; tackle the park in the evening another day.

If dealing with the crowds starts to steal your magic, don’t let it. There are places at each park where you can rest, cool off and spend time with your family in a less-crowded spot:

At the Magic Kingdom, ride the railroad or the Tomorrowland Transit Authority; go enjoy some time on Tom Sawyer Island, or see a show at the Enchanted Tiki Room, Country Bear Jamboree, or Carousel of Progress (one of Walt’s originals).

At Epcot, ride Spaceship Earth, Living with the Land, or Universe of Energy; or see a show such as the American Adventure or any of the live street shows throughout the park.

At Disney Studios, escape into One Man’s Dream or The Magic of Disney Animation; or enjoy Beauty & the Beast or the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

At Animal Kingdom, disappear on the Wildlife Express or peruse the Conservation Station; or head over to see It’s Tough To Be a Bug or Flights of Wonder.

Your own travel patterns will change as your family gets older, so things that work for you this trip may not be feasible during your next visit. Since my kids are older now, we like to head to the parks in the mornings only on morning EMH days. The rest of the time, we head over around 2:00. Evening EMH are our favorite time and we head to the park around 6:00 p.m. and stay until the parks close (even in the wee hours of the morning). It makes no difference since we can sleep late the next day. Few people are following along with this plan so it has worked out nicely for us.

The main thing is to be flexible enough to be able to zig your way to great trip memories. A big part of enjoying your trip is being able to breathe it all in and enjoy the wonder and magic of Disney. I hope these tips will be helpful to you when planning your magical family vacation.

10 Questions with Sean Berdy, Star of ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth”

10 Questions with Sean Berdy, Star of ABC Family’s "Switched at Birth"

I recently had an opportunity to chat with actor Sean Berdy of ABC Family’s “Switched at Birth” that airs on Tuesdays at 8/7c!

Sean Berdy was born to perform and has never let his deafness get in the way of him following his passion for entertaining. His first stage as a young boy was his parents’ bed where he put on shows for delighted family and friends alongside his younger brother Tyler, who would handle DJ and lighting needs for the events.

At a young age, Sean also became fascinated by magic, honed his skills in the art, and shared with his brother, Tyler the top award for young magicians at the World Deaf Magicians Festival held in St. Petersburg, Russia.

Sean received his first big break in acting when a casting call went out for a young deaf actor for The Sandlot 2, the 2005 comedic sequel to The Sandlot. Sean’s formal acting career was launched, and he went on to play roles in films including The Bondage (2006), The Deaf Family (2007), and The Legend of the Mountain Man (2008). In addition to Sean’s film career, he has been featured in numerous public service commercials.

In between filming engagements, Sean toured the country performing with highly acclaimed musical groups. His inspired dance rendition of Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” performed entirely in American Sign Language was a tremendous hit among his deaf peers. Sean was named Mr. Deaf Teen America. In this role Sean was asked to make public appearances across the country for one year.

Sean plays Emmett Bledsoe, Daphne’s sweet but protective best friend. His mother Melody (Marlee Matlin), is best friends with Daphne’s mother, Regina. Emmett is deaf and attends the Carlton School for the Deaf along with Daphne. He has a passion for photography and can be often found taking pictures or riding his motorcycle.

Sorcerer Radio: How has being on Switched at Birth changed you? Now you’re pretty well known.

S. Berdy: Well, being on Switched at Birth is a great honor because the show portrays authentic deaf characters, not the characters that we in the Deaf community have often seen in television. I’m born into the Deaf community, but raised in the hearing community as well; and, I think this show is unique in showing authentic deaf characters and authentic deaf perspectives from deaf characters. So, I think that is amazing and an honor to be a part of. The two girls on the show, Vanessa and Katie, they’re wonderful, aren’t they? I love them.

Sorcerer Radio: Have you felt like you’ve changed at all, though, from your newfound fame?

S. Berdy: No, I don’t feel that I’ve changed. I do feel that being successful in portraying a deaf character as realistically as a deaf person lives today is something that I’ve always wanted to do; and, I’m thrilled to be able to do it. But, it hasn’t changed me. I wouldn’t be well known if it wasn’t for the fans. But, certainly they wouldn’t love me if I changed and I’m always going to be Sean Berdy.

10 Questions with Sean Berdy, Star of ABC Family’s "Switched at Birth"

Sorcerer Radio: What do you find is your biggest challenge in bringing this character to life on screen?

S. Berdy: There are many types of challenges in life, of course. But, one challenge towards approaching this character is speaking, the idea of should Emmett speak or not. I, Sean Berdy, speak pretty well, not perfectly; but, I grew up using my voice.

Now, when it comes to the TV screen and having Emmett speak, I have to rehearse to make sure his lines are understandable and so forth. That’s a challenge because I’m not a perfect speaker by any means. But, to make sure Emmett’s voice is understood on the television show is something that I’ve worked very hard at, you know. We worked very closely in terms of the writers and the producers to make sure that Emmett speaks for a reason and that it’s still authentic and that he’s true to his character and that the audience would see that.

Sorcerer Radio: What is the biggest difference is between you, Sean Berdy, and your character, Emmett.

S. Berdy: As I mentioned a little bit, Emmett Bledsoe is a very, very deep thinker and he thinks that he knows everything about the world; how the deaf world works, how the hearing world works toward the deaf people. He’s very passionate in terms of his art, his passion for photography and so forth. He is maybe not so in touch with everybody else and their feelings, but he’s very introspective. He’s the James Dean of the Deaf community.

That’s very different than Sean Berdy. Sean Berdy is dancing in front of the mirror at age two for his parents, making his parents crazy running around the house singing and dancing and jumping around and joking. I’m a comedienne in real life. I’m always goofing around; I’m outgoing and I talk with everybody, especially through Twitter these days. But, Emmett? Wow! He’s very limited in the people he chooses to share himself with.

Sorcerer Radio: If it were up to you, what sort of adventure would you want Emmett to have this season or even next season?

S. Berdy: I would love to see a big concert, have Guitar Face play a huge concert and become a hot band; and, there’s Emmett Bledsoe playing drums, the deaf drummer for this big rock band. That would be wonderful. I’m going to have to talk with the writers and try and tell them to take Guitar Face on the road. We’ll see about that one.

I have to tell you, I’ve been practicing drums a lot. I grew up playing drums a bit when I was a kid, and then I stopped. When I came on to this show, they asked me to play drums. I said okay, I’m back. I rehearsed for the one episode, the first episode we did where I just played a song. I rehearsed every day for a week.

When we came out to shoot it, I realized after I saw it, when it was edited down it was down to just a few seconds of TV time. But, I’ll tell you what—I never put more work into 30 seconds of screen time than I did working on the drums. But, I’ve been playing the drums and I’m ready for Guitar Face to rock the crowd. So, I would love to see us in a big arena somewhere. That would be cool.

Sorcerer Radio: How young you were when you started playing the drums; and, are there any other musical instruments you play?

S. Berdy: Sure, you know I love to talk about the drums and music. I started playing drums when I was probably six and played a lot until I was about ten or eleven years old. So, I guess five or six years where I played. I had a drum set at home and I would just bang on it. I’d even go on the Internet and study basic beats and so forth. During my teenage years, I stopped playing, but when I got on the show, they asked me to play and I was ready for it.

People ask me how do you play. Do you just feel the vibrations? You know, deaf people have a variety of ways that they can feel the rhythm. Obviously, I feel the beat, but I use my hearing aids; hearing aids that I’ve worn since the day I was born, truthfully. I grew up using hearing aids and I had speech therapy and so forth, and that helped me to develop a passion for music and helped me to develop my drumming talents. To be honest, without my hearing aids, I wouldn’t be able to play the drums. But, I don’t play any other music instruments.

I do love to interpret songs in American Sign Language. You know I just did a version of Hero by Enrique Iglesias that I put out on YouTube and it’s had thousands of hits already. I think that people are just transfixed when they see a song rendered in American Sign Language. I’m going to perform that song, actually, at Downtown Disney’s event, SIGNin’ in the Street March 17 and 18. I hope everyone can come out and see the event and you’ll get to see Sean Berdy signing live.

10 Questions with Sean Berdy, Star of ABC Family’s "Switched at Birth"

Sorcerer Radio: Well, you just brought up your event at Disneyland. I was actually wondering if you could talk a little bit more about what you and the rest of the Switched at Birth cast will be doing when you’re down there.

S. Berdy: The event, SIGNin’ in the Street, is in Downtown Disney, March 17 and 18. That’s a Saturday and a Sunday; a huge event that includes many, many different performers, deaf and hearing. Kickoff event is March 17 at 1:00 p.m. Fans can come out and see the cast, Switched at Birth, for a Q&A, autograph signings, very cool interactions with the fans. Also, guest star Marlee Matlin will be there. She obviously plays my mother, Melody on the show.

They’re also screening two episodes, episodes 21 and 22, as I call them. They’ll be at the theater there. Go out and see that; and, you can get a sneak preview of 22, actually, and there’s a lot of drama that in so-called final episode.

They’re also giving out things at their tent. I’ll be performing Hero in American Sign Language both nights, which I’m thrilled about. You know performing live in front of an audience like that is wonderful. You can find out more information online, I’m sure. Google Downtown Disney; SIGNin’ in the Street is the name of the event; and, I’m looking forward to seeing all you people out there.

Sorcerer Radio: How did you settle on Hero as the song that you’ll be performing?

S. Berdy: Why did I decide to perform that live, or why did I decide to make the video that I put up on YouTube?

Sorcerer Radio: Why did you decide to use that song specifically for the video and the live performance?

S. Berdy: Oh, okay. I’ll tell you why. A lot of people have asked me that same question and why did I pick that same song. I mean, first of all that song is world famous and extremely popular because I think the lyrics are so concise and so powerful and so direct.

I thought why don’t I just add American Sign Language to this beautiful message and make it as concise and as heartfelt in my language. So, I worked very carefully on translating the song, as simple as it is, as beautiful as it is to find an authentic translation. That song worked for me at that time. I may have new songs that I translate in the future. Who knows?

10 Questions with Sean Berdy, Star of ABC Family’s "Switched at Birth"

Sorcerer Radio: You have inspired a lot of people to want to learn sign language. What advice would you give someone who wants to learn ASL and how would they get started?

S. Berdy: I would love to give a little bit of advice because I have so many friends who are professors at universities and colleges all across the country who teach ASL classes. I’d strongly encourage anyone to look up their local university or college and see what ASL classes they provide. Usually, you start with ASL I and work your way up to ASL IV. Anytime you can interact with deaf people or the Deaf community, I would strongly encourage doing that.

I have seen an up swell of students in the ASL classes around the country and in my professor and educator friends out there are telling me it’s partially because of the show. So, that’s a thrill.

Top 5 ways to sound like a “planner” on your next Walt Disney World vacation

image

Ok, so OBVIOUSLY you’re the planner of the group. You wouldn’t be sitting here reading this if you weren’t.

However, if you’re like me sometimes you do all the planning for an event or vacation and WHOOSH someone clueless swoops in and takes control and you walk around silently fuming or throwing in jabs at their incompetence lack of planning know-how.

Frustrating, isn’t? So what are some of the top ways you can let your family know “I’ve got this “WDW” planning thing under control? Here’s my top 5.

1. Develop a spreadsheet. – For some reason when people see a spread-sheet, especially when its color coded, they think you have a clue what’s going on. This is to your advantage. He/ She that holds the spread-sheets holds the key to the day. ha! You are welcome to download the whole spreadsheet and use it to help you plan (FOR FREE) if you’d like by just going HERE.

2. Use a lot of Disney lingo – Like spread-sheets being able to use the jargon of the organizations makes you seem even more credible. Sentences like,

“I have a WDW ADR at BOMA in AKL.”makes you cool. Even cooler than smoking USE to make you back in the 50s. Dojn’t know what any of that means? See my three posts on the Disney Dictionary and get “hip” to the Mouse Lingo mannnnnn…

3. Get the Garb – So you might BE a “First timer” at WDW, but you don’t have to LOOK like one. You need the lanyard, nametag, comfy shoes, pins, The whole 9 yards.  Don’t forget your Disposable ponchos whatever you do.

4. Study the map – So you REALLY don’t want to wander around WDW aimlessly, do you? Well get yourself some maps ahead of time and STUDY them. Nobody is going to argue with you when you say (without a map in hand), “Ok, we’re going straight to Dumbo. That’s directly up Main Street and through the castle. Lets go people”. How can you get a map ahead of time? You can get FREE ones custom made way before your trip by going to http://customizedmaps.disney.go.com/.

5. Make sure they SEE YOU PLANNING! Ok, lets be real for a second. The realllllllllllllll reason why it bothers you so bad when someone takes over is that you’ve spent ALL this time working to plan and, quite honestly, you’d like to get the credit for it. When someone else steps up and steels your spotlight it makes you feel like everything you did was for nothing (its ok, I’m a Communications Prof. I KNOW that this is how everybody feels. Its actually a power issue, but we don’t have time for that lecture right now). So if you’re worried about this then the person who normally takes over needs to A) SEE YOU PLANNING B) Know all the work that goes into planning and C) BE TOLD BY YOU THAT YOU’VE GOT THE TRIP UNDER CONTROL! From a Communications standpoint most of the issues we have occur when we “play games” with other people. We feel one way, but instead of calmly and rationally explaining ourselves and why our feelings are hurt, we move towards silence (also known as moping or “masking” (when is when you’re super sarcastic) or violence (belittling, raising our voice, intimidation). This does NOT MAKE YOUR TRIP MORE FUN, it counteracts the whole darn purpose. Stop playing games, get plenty of rest and tell your “spotlight stealer” ahead of time that “you got this”, but hey…. you better REALLY “got this” if you’re going to say it. Don’t drop the ball and not really know what you’re doing.

And when in doubt, don’t forget you can always say “The Disney Diva said…..” and that will straighten them right up. Winking smile

HAPPY PLANNING!!!

Planning a Disney Trip? Countdown to the FUN!

Planning a Disney Trip? Countdown to the FUN!

How many days do you have until you leave for your Disney vacation?  Do you even know?  If you are getting close, why not make it fun and start a Disney Vacation Countdown!?!

Several months ago, Melissa shared how to make a great Do It Yourself Countdown Calendar.  In addition to your own calendar, there are lots of other fun ways to count down to your vacation.

1. Visit the Disney web site and download the Disney Vacation Connection for your computer.
2. Do a search for desktop countdown calendars for your computer.
3. Download an app for counting down the days on your smart phone.
4. Make your own construction paper chain link to countdown the days.
5. Starting 6 weeks out, choose 1 Disney movie a week to watch as a family and make themed snacks to enjoy with the film!
6. Make a playlist with 25 Disney songs.  Each day on the way to school, while eating breakfast, getting ready for bed, etc., play one song to countdown the number of days left until the trip.
7. Go to the Dollar Stores and buy cheap Disney treats.  Wrap them up and give each family member one treat a day for a certain amount of days leading up to the trip.

Disney World Quick Tips – Advanced Dining Reservation Tips

Disney World Quick Tips - Advanced Dining Reservation Tips

Most Disney visitors plan on dining at some table service restaurants while they are on vacation. I thought most everyone was aware of the Advance Dining Reservation (ADR) system and used it as designed. In reading some of the many Disney forums on the web it is a bit disconcerting to see that there are still a lot of folks out there (particularly first time visitors) who believe that you can just walk up to one of the Walt Disney World restaurants and get a table. Check out this article Disney World Quick Tip: Dining without Reservations for more.

Please make your ADR’s or you will be eating at counter service locations throughout your visit. Just making your reservations will work if you are planning on eating at the normal table service restaurants but if you are planning on hitting the really “popular” or “in” places there are some strategies you should employ. By “popular” or “in” restaurants I mean places like Le Cellier, Cinderella’s Royal Table, OHana, Chef Mickey’s etc. etc. Here are a few tactics you might employ as ADR day approaches and arrives:

  • Have A Plan – Know where you want to dine, what day you want, and an approximate time and write them down!!!
  • Credit Card At The Ready – There are some venues that require either pre payment (Dinner Shows) or a deposit of some type (Fantasmic! Dining Package) so whether you use the on line system or call 407-WDW-DINE have your card available. Policies are thoroughly explained as you make each and every reservation so be patient.
  • Prioritize Your ADR’s – This is key whether you use the on line system or call. Always make the most difficult reservations first. You can make your ADR’s in any date order so if you want to have breakfast in Cinderella Castle that should always be your first reservation.
  • Use 180+10 Wisely – One of the major benefits of staying on site is that you can make reservations for the first 10 days of your vacation at the 180 day from check in mark. If you are planning on making ADR’s at some of the wildly popular venues you may want to consider scheduling them later in your vacation. Doing that will somewhat reduce the competition from those folks who check in 4 or 5 days earlier than you and are scheduling their ADR’s for the first few days of your vacation before you get a chance to start. It sounds a bit strange but it works.
  • Be Flexible On Times – Don’t depend on eating lunch at 12:00 or dinner at 5:00. Lots of other folks are trying to do exactly that so be a bit flexible in your times so you won’t be disappointed.

There is no sure fire way to get the exact ADR’s at the exact time you want but if you utilize these suggestions you will likely have some success. I know these things work because that’s what I do. As always, enjoy your visit to Walt Disney World!!

Why Should You Go to Walt Disney World?

Why Should You Go to Walt Disney World?

This weekend, I was looking through all the pictures we have accumulated through the years. I was reminded of such wonderful memories. I started to think about why we began taking our family to Walt Disney World in the first place and why we kept the tradition year after year. I remember the times we could not afford to park hop or eat in the parks, but we were there and that is all that mattered. We saved to go, stuck to our budget, and we had a wonderful family time that has closely knit our family together with threads of Disney memories that I hope will last a lifetime.

The main result of my reminiscing about our trips to Walt Disney World was an even stronger resolve to make sure that every family realizes they can visit WDW without spending a fortune. So, today I am going to talk about the reasons why you should plan your trip.

WHY SHOULD YOU GO?

1. Time is ticking: There is utter truth in the phrase “time passes way too fast.” Don’t take one second for granted when your kids are young. Trust me, they will be grown in the blink of an eye; and while you are waiting on “maybe next year” your time “this year” is lost. There will come a time, sooner than you think, when your children will have lives of their own and this valuable time will be gone.

2. Caring is sharing: Sharing special time with the kids is what they will remember throughout their lives and, trust me, there is no place more special than Walt Disney World. Families on vacation tend to spend quality time together; talking, laughing and enjoying new fun experiences. And don’t forget, the family that plays together stays together.

3. Nothing to do but what you want: Can you remember a time when your schedule was truly your own? When you are on vacation, no one will have to rush to practice, a game, dance class, etc. Your time on vacation is spent on whatever you want to do without life pulling you in a million different directions. When is the last time your family had dinner all together at the same time? If it has been a while, a vacation is a great time to rebuild that family relationship.

4. Unplug and get away from it all: Getting away from technology for a little while helps everyone to focus on what’s most important. In my opinion, this is relationships. Some children have not yet learned the value of a close-knit family that needs only rely on their relationship with one another to enrich their lives.  A vacation is the perfect time to really get to know one another, and what a blessing that is.

5. Open your mind to new things: Travel is an excellent learning tool for kids. Nearly every vacation activity involves teachable moments. For instance, at Epcot children can learn about different cultures, foods, history, climate and much more. They will actually be able to meet people from other countries and have exposure to accents and personality traits specific to their regions.  At the Animal Kingdom they can see animals in their own natural habitat and learn about the environment up close and personal. There are many opportunities in which to learn, and it is much more fun to learn things hands-on than by doing homework.

6. You deserve a vacation: Life is hard nowadays; many people work too much and play too little. One of the most important reasons to take a vacation is simply for rest and relaxation. Have you heard of it? Have you experienced it lately? If not, experience it again soon.

7. Being surrounded by Disney: The best reason to visit Walt Disney World is simply being exposed to the magic that is Disney. I believe in the Disney philosophy of every visitor being a guest. People are even nicer and clearly happier when they are at WDW. They are not fighting the clock, deadlines, gridlock and all the things that get us down. It is wonderful to carry on conversations with nice, happy people from all over the world. Walt Disney opened this world up to us to enjoy and share with family. I know it has brought an abundance of happiness to mine.

I sure hope you will seriously consider the reasons why your family might be due for a Disney vacation. I would love to help you plan the perfect getaway for your family, or just hear your comments on what your family Disney vacations have meant to you. Contact me anytime at [email protected].

Disney’s ‘Maleficent’ to Begin Filming in June

Disney's 'Maleficent' to Begin Filming in June

This is the news I’ve been waiting to hear. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney’s live action version of Maleficent will begin filming in June.  Angelina Jolie will star as the title villain and is reportedly excited about the film because of the relationship the movie will explore between Maleficent and Sleeping Beauty.

Elle Fanning (Super 8) is in talks to play Aurora and Robert Stromberg will be making his directorial debut. He was the production designer on Alice and Wonderland and Disney’s upcoming Oz the Great and Powerful. Stromberg is reportedly in the U.K. prepping for the film. Personally, I am really looking forward to this movie. Maleficent has always been my favorite Disney villain and I can’t wait to see what Jolie does with the character.
