ABC Family Greenlights A Second Season of The Hit Drama Series “The Lying Game”

ABC Family Greenlights A Second Season of The Hit Drama Series “The Lying Game”

ABC Family announced today the pick-up of a second season of the original drama series “The Lying Game.” The new season will begin production this summer for a winter premiere.

The audience for the drama series grew considerably during its first season, surging by double-digit percent margins. The Winter run was up 28% in W18-34 over the first half of its season, with three consecutive weeks of series highs in the demo, and contributed to ABC Family’s biggest 1Q ever in Prime in Women 18-34, Women 18-49 and Females 12-34.

“The Lying Game” follows identical twins Emma Becker and Sutton Mercer who were separated at birth and led very different lives, each oblivious to the other’s existence until circumstances bring them back together. Yearning for the family she never had, kind-hearted foster kid Emma agrees to step into Sutton’s privileged shoes while she searches for their birth parents, setting in motion a web of secrecy and lies.

“The Lying Game” is produced by Alloy Entertainment in association with Warner Horizon Television and is executive produced by Charles Pratt, Jr., Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. The series stars Alexandra Chando, Andy Buckley, Blair Redford, Alice Greczyn, Allie Gonino and Helen Slater with guest stars Adrian Pasdar and Charisma Carpenter.

Signature Restaurants – Are They Worth It? Part 2

Signature Restaurants - Are They Worth It? Part 2

Walt Disney World is FULL of amazing restaurants, and a select handful of them are good enough to earn the title of “Signature Restaurant”. These restaurants offer some of the finest food and drink options in the best settings in all of Walt Disney World.

So when it comes to picking where you will be making your Advance Dining Reservations (or ADR’s) for your WDW vacation, one question you will have to ask yourself when it comes to the Signature Restaurants is, Are they worth it? Is it worth the extra money or extra Table Service credit (as Signature Restaurants will set you back 2 table service credits apiece on the Disney Dining Plan)?

Last week I reviewed some of these restaurants in an attempt to answer the question of ‘are they worth it?’ (if you missed those reviews check them out here) and now I want to talk about the rest of the Disney Signature Restaurants in hopes that the information will help you make the right dining decisions for your vacation (because as we all know, food is one of the best parts of any vacation!)

So, here we go:

Yachtsman Steakhouse – Located at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, this New England themed restaurant offers a variety of dishes, but it’s main focus is – you guessed it – steak. And they do it well – from the braised beef ravioli, to the boneless Rib-eye, to the deconstructed Beef Wellington, they are all delicious. Some common complaints about the restaurant are that the service can tend to be slow and the food inconsistent, but I have not found those to be true. The setting is great, the Resort is beautiful, and it’s definitely worth the trip to have dinner here
Survey Says: If you like steak, you’ll like Yachtsman Steakhouse

Le Cellier Steakhouse – Head over to the Canada area of Epcot’s World Showcase for lunch or dinner here, where you can feast on Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup (made with beer and bacon!), Filet mignon or king salmon or pan-seared cod, with a trio of chocolate to finish off the meal. An added bonus of this restaurant – they serve dinner AND lunch, and lunch is usually cheaper than dinner, plus lunch will only cost you ONE table service credit per person (whereas dinner will cost 2 credits)
Survey Says: The price for dinner is a little high, so I suggest grabbing lunch here (it’s the same experience, for less money!)

Bistro De Paris – Celebrate a special occasion in style at this intimate restaurant in the France pavillion of Epcot’s World Showcase. They do a Prix Fixe menu where you can select from scallops, beef, or or chicken for your main course with options for dessert and starters as well (you can also choose to have wine pairings included, for an additional fee). It’s the perfect place to enjoy a romantic dinner, as it’s a smaller, more upscale restaurant (and there tends to be fewer families and young children dining here), and it’s also a great spot to view the nightly Illuminations show. It’s main drawback? Price – it’s not cheap, and if you aren’t sure if you like French food this might not be the best place for you to dine
Survey Says: It isn’t cheap, but it’s a great place to celebrate!

The Hollywood Brown Derby– Head over to Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a meal at this restaurant that is a replica of the original Brown Derby restaurant in Hollywood. Try the signature Brown Derby Cobb Salad, or the Duck Two Ways, and finish off your meal with their famous Grapefruit Cake (and it’s famous for a good reason – because it’s delicious!). They also have some amazing wines and martinis, and do wine pairings as well. The decor is fun, with drawings of Hollywood stars on the walls, and it has a great “old school tinseltown” feel to it
Survey Says: If you’re a movie fan, this is the place for you – you can grab a martini and relax in the elegant setting of the Brown Derby

Fulton’s Crab House – This restaurant’s location in Downtown Disney is unique – it is actually a replica of an old riverboat that is docked right on the waterfront! The location is a huge part of it’s appeal – who wouldn’t want to eat on an old riverboat? The food has appeal too – crab cakes, oysters, and mussels grace the menu, as well as a few non-seafood selections.
Survey Says: Seafood fans will love eating here, and even non seafood fans will love the old riverboat setting

Wolfgang Puck: The Dining Room – Guests who dine here will get to experience the chef’s truly unique Asian/Californian fusion in an upscale setting. Lobster risotto, a selection of sushi, and banana beignets are just some of the items you can expect to find here, as well as prix fixe menus of specially selected items, like the Austrian 2 Course Tour. Enjoy some wine and watch as your food is prepared in the open kitchen
Survey Says: If you are looking for something truly unique and different, this is the place for you

Whether you are celebrating a birthday, anniversary, wedding, engagement, promotion, or simply the fact that you are on vacation at Walt Disney World (reason enough to celebrate in my mind!), I urge you to check out some of these Signature Restaurants for great food, drink, and atmosphere – there are so many choices that chances are one will be perfect for you!

Stay tuned right here on Chip and Co for part 3 where I will be discussing the character meals and dinner shows that will set you back 2 Table Service credits (while they aren’t technically “Signature” restaurants, they are unique and therefore more expensive than other restaurants. What makes them special? Check back next week to find out!)

Disney Water Parks—Are They Worth It?

Disney Water Parks—Are They Worth It?

Looking for a thrill at Walt Disney World? The Resort’s four theme parks aren’t the only places to satisfy that urge.

Typhoon Lagoon, as legend holds, resulted when disaster struck Placid Palms Resort in the tropical paradise of Safen Sound. Ships were tossed upon mountains, surfboards flung through trees and sharks deposited into the harbor. Left in the wake were an inland sea with breaking waves, a watershed mountain, caves, waterfalls, rivers and slides—a vacationer’s dream adventure.

Disney Water Parks—Are They Worth It?

  • Surf Typhoon Lagoon in one of the world’s largest wave-motion pools. For $150 per person, strong swimmers ages 8 and up can learn surfing basics in a 2-1/2 hour session taught by professional instructors from Craig Carroll’s Cocoa Beach Surf.
  • For nothing more than Park admission, snorkel the 362,000-gallon saltwater Shark Reef and swim with tropical marine life in a natural aquarium. Swimmers longing for more may rent SAS (Supplied Air Snorkeling) tank systems at an additional charge.
  • If you’re just looking for some awesome aqua time, chute down Crush ‘n’ Gusher, the only water coaster in North America with three separate rides off a single tower.

How in the world did a ski resort end up in Florida? Well, they say a freak snow storm blanketed the area awhile back. Alas, just as quickly as the resort sprang up the heat returned, and it all began to melt. But a fun-loving alligator had a solution. He slid down the snowless ski jump, shouting “Yahoooo!” all the way they say, and landed in a pool of runoff. Everyone around followed his lead and so transformed the snowy slopes into the ski-themed Blizzard Beach.

Disney Water Parks—Are They Worth It?

  • Plummet from the Summit, an 8-second drop down a 12-story, slightly over vertical flume at 50-60 miles per hour. Instead of catching a wave like at Typhoon Lagoon, here Guests catch some air.
  • Scale back up Mount Gushmore or enjoy a leisurely ride on the Chair Lift to access the tamer “green slopes” like Slush Gusher, Snow Stormers, and the racetrack Downhill Double Dipper and Taboggan Racers.
  • And when you need a break, catch your breath with a relaxing float along Castaway Creek.

Typhoon Lagoon also offers a lazy river (Castaway Creek), and both water parks feature separate water play areas for the Resort’s littlest Guests as well as lounge areas, snack shacks and, of course, gift shops for whatever else you need.

Are the water parks worth your time and money? I’d say absolutely! If the length of your stay allows, I’d suggest adding the Water Park Fun and More Option to your vacation package. For each day of your ticket, you’ll have access to one of the following:

  • Disney’s Blizzard Beach water park
  • Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon water park
  • DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park
  • ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex
  • a round of golf at Disney’s Oak Trail Golf Course

One-day water park admission is approximately $53 per adult. At $55 for the Water Park & More option, you’re getting a whole lot of bang for the buck.

So go on and have a splashin’ good time!

American Institute of Architects Honors Cinderella Castle at Disney World

“The

This month, the Walt Disney World Resort landmark icon was named one of the Top 100 Buildings in Florida by The Florida Association of the American Institute of Architects (AIA Florida) as a part of their “Florida Architecture: 100 Years. 100 Places.” celebration for the organization’s 100-year anniversary. Cinderella Castle was also named Top Building in the Recreational Architecture category.

AIA Florida is an association of architects with a mission to unite, educate and position architects to lead the shaping of Florida’s future. The members of AIA Florida are leaders in their communities and passionate about good design; the health, safety and welfare of others; and preserving architecture through sustainable practice.

AIA Florida Immediate Past President and former Imagineer Michael Lingerfelt, FAIA, LEED AP, presented the award to Magic Kingdom Park General Manager Phil Holmes on Wednesday, April 18. It was a homecoming of sorts for Lingerfelt, whose 15-year tenure with WDI included working on Magic Kingdom Park projects such as New Tomorrowland, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Mickey’s PhilharMagic.

In March, AIA Florida launched the Top 100 Buildings statewide online competition, inviting the public to vote for their favorite Florida building. More than two and a half million votes were cast, both by architects in the association and the general public. This year marks the 100th anniversary of AIA Florida, recognizing the important contributions architects have made in the Sunshine State. The awards are just one of the events the association has planned throughout the year to celebrate its anniversary, which is Dec. 14.

Why Choose Disney’s Quick Service Dining Plan

Why Choose Disney’s Quick Service Dining Plan

Let me tell you…our first Disney trip, five years ago, we chose to NOT include a Disney Dining Plan in our resort package.  Why?  Well, we were “first timers” and uneducated  :).  We assumed, like many people do, that it is WAY expensive, that we could pack our own food for cheaper.  That our resort has a refrigerator, so why not come back and grab a sandwich?  Disney allows small coolers into the parks, we’ll just pack a lunch.  Yea, not so much.  While some of those reasons may be good ones for bringing your own food into the park, we realized it isn’t for us.

However, the Quick Service Dining Plan is perfect for our family.  We chose this option two trips ago, and will never go back to carting our own food around the parks, and here’s why.

1.  We love the flexibility.  We can eat WHENEVER we want since we aren’t tied to a reservation.  We aren’t at the point with our family where we can try to hold our kids off very long from eating.  We don’t like to stop, in the middle of a hot day, to sit down to a buffet or table service meal.

Why Choose Disney’s Quick Service Dining Plan

2.  Snacks rock.  With the Quick Service Dining Option, you get one snack per person, per day.  For me, that’s a pretzel in Germany :).  That’s the snack I look forward to. My kids LOVE the MIckey Ice Cream Bars and Rice Krispie treats.  It’s so nice to walk through the park, and when my kids ask for a treat or a snack, to know I’ve already paid for it.  We just hand our Key to the World Card over to the cashier, and it’s paid for.

3.  Contrary to popular belief, there is a variety of food on the Quick Service Dining Plan.  That is something we realized after our first time using it, two years ago.  Before we leave, I email myself a list of restaurants, mainly in World Showcase, that offer Quick Service Dining.  That way, we can make sure we are trying new foods, and not eating chicken nuggets and sandwiches for every meal.

If anyone is reading this post at EPCOT, promise you’ll grab a Bavarian Pretzel from Germany for me 🙂

I want to know what you think. Are you a Quick Service Dining Plan user? Let me know in the comment box below.

Disney Nature’s Chimpanzee Movie Review

Disney Nature's Chimpanzee Movie Review

If you have seen the previews for Disney Nature’s new Chimpanzee movie you were probably touched like I was and intrigued by this movie. I was a little worried when the previews said “some scenes may be too intense for young viewers” so I took my 11 year old son and left my 8 year old at home.

We both thoroughly enjoyed this film, it is touching, heart wrenching and fascinating all at the same time. Tim Allen does an amazing job with the narration and inserts humor when it is needed in the film. The story of the orphaned chimp and his unlikely adopted father is just amazing and keeps you on the edge of your seat.

There are some intense scenes but Disney does a great job not showing anything too graphic. However, (spoiler alert) my son and I did learn that chimps are cannibals which was a little disturbing. There are some deaths in the film but nothing is shown dying so most kids should do fine seeing the film. I love how the movie can appeal to audiences of all ages.

If you do go, be sure and stay through the credits. There were many times during the film I kept asking myself “how on earth did they film THAT!?” if you stay through the credits you will find out how, and it is truly amazing!

So I give Chimpanzee two thumbs up and hope you take some time out to go and see this heart warming film.

If you do go, be sure to comment and let me know what YOU thought!
