Walt & Mickey Welcomes Dreamers to Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure Park

Walt & Mickey Welcomes Dreamers to Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure Park

Today Disney California Adventure park guests will be able to greet the new statue of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse themselves when Buena Vista Street officially opens! Take a look:

A plaque just to the right of the statue tells the story of Walt Disney’s arrival in Los Angeles in 1923 in his own words:

It was July 1923. I packed all of my worldly goods – a pair of trousers, a checkered coat, a lot of drawing materials and the last of the fairy tale reels we had made – in a kind of frayed cardboard suitcase. And with that wonderful audacity of youth, I went to Hollywood, arriving there with just forty dollars. It was a big day the day I got on that Santa Fe California Limited. I was just free and happy!

In anticipation of the release of November’s release of the new movie ‘Wreck-It Ralph’, Disney has released an online version of the game ‘Fix-It Felix, Jr.’, the game inside the movie. It’s a fantastic NES style game in the vein of the original Donkey Kong. I’ve found myself addicted to playing it for quite a bit now, and I’m sure you guys will too. You can play ‘Fix-It Felix’ here.  ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ stars the voice talent of John C. Reilly as Ralph, Jack McBryer as Felix, Sarah Silverman, and Jane Lynch. Parking at ESPN Wide World of Sports Explained

Parking at ESPN Wide World of Sports Explained

Summer is upon us and it’s one of the busiest times at ESPN Wide World of Sports. While parking is free at the complex, it can be somewhat hectic to find a spot, unload your gear, and make the trek to your scheduled field.

With a little prep, you can make that trek a little easier. The red arrow above indicates where you will enter the parking area. You may see a sign that says “Bus” parking. That refers to the area indicated by the green arrow. If you arrive early enough, there may be spots in the “General Parking”, which is indicated by the blue arrow. If you arrive mid-to-late afternoon, you may be directed to the overflow parking areas indicated by the orange arrows. These are sometimes called “Touchdown” lots.

The area with yellow arrows is reserved for game referees and other officials such as AAU, as well as some coaches and scouts. This area is guarded by cast members and without the proper identification, you will not be permitted to park there except on certain occasions when guests with disabilities are directed to park in the area designated as “Slamdunk”.

Here’s a tip: If you are playing on baseball fields 1-5, bypass the “General Parking” lot and continue on to the “Bus” lot. Park there and you will be much closer to a side entrance designated just for the baseball diamonds. If the turnstiles aren’t open yet, you’re still close to the main entrance.

If you are attending an event in the HP Field House or Josten’s Center, it is just as close to walk from the overflow parking in Touchdown as it is to walk from the Bus lot, maybe even a little closer.

Have you attended an event at the Wide World of Sports? What has been your experience with parking? Will you be attending an event this summer?

Lisa writes here at Chip & Co. as well as her blog Adventures in Mousedom. As a local to Disney World, she offers a different insight into visiting the parks. If you’re super cool like Chip, you should check it out. Okay, even if you’re not super cool like Chip, you should check it out. Trust me. What’s the worst that could happen?

Will you be using the Disney Dining Plan on your next Walt Disney World vacation? I know I will, I have used it a few times and love it – its great to not have to worry about paying out of pocket for meals and snacks!

Speaking of snacks (yum I could go for one right now!), they are a part of every Disney Dining Plan, and allow you to purchase various snack items from restaurants, carts and stands throughout the Theme Parks and Resorts.

"Buy This Not That" - Optimizing Your DDP Snack Credits

How do you know what items you can purchase as a snack on the Dining plan? On the menu boards, look for the above symbol, which will indicate that the item is eligible for a snack credit. Generally, its most snack type items under $5 (with some exceptions of course)

That being said, there are some items that are definitely worth a snack credit, and some that aren’t.

Top 5 Underrated Disney World Rides or Attractions

Top 5 Underrated Disney World Rides or Attractions

Anyone planning a trip to Disney or who has been there before knows that are certain attractions that get a lot of attention and fill up the queues really quick. Therefore, some other Disney attractions that may not offer the latest technology or the biggest thrills sometimes get overlooked and are definitely underrated. This is unfortunate since some of Disney’s best secrets are underrated attractions. Therefore, I have compiled a list of Top 5 Underrated Disney World Attractions for you to check out on your next trip to Disney World!

1. Carousel of Progress-This attraction came from the mind of Walt Disney himself and was shown at the 1964 New York World’s Fair to raving reviews! Today, this show still runs in Tomorrowland at the Magic Kingdom and has the honor of being the longest running show in American theater! The Carousel of Progress is unique in that the theater rotates around to different stages where you get to see how progress and new inventions impacted daily life in the early twentieth century. This charming show is both educational and entertaining. It’s usually not at the top of many Disney guest to-do lists; but it definitely should be! All ages enjoy it and it gives us a glimpse into the mind of Walt Disney himself.

Disney Magic Visits Canada and the New England Coast

Disney Magic Visits Canada and the New England Coast

The 2,700-passenger Disney Magic set sail from New York this week taking cruisers on the first of nine 5-night Canadian / New England coast itineraries with stops in Halifax, Nova Scotia and Saint John, New Brunswick.

“Canada and the New England coast are alluring destinations for our guests,” said Disney Cruise Line Captain John Barwis. “This region’s history, quaint charm and scenic vistas will provide our guests with a unique and memorable vacation, and sailing from New York is convenient for many families who reside in the Northeast.”

To celebrate the inaugural calls on Halifax and Saint John, Captain Barwis and his shipboard officers hosted local port officials and community leaders aboard the vessel for a plaque exchange ceremony, in accordance with maritime tradition.

“It’s an honour for us and our tourism partners to host Disney – one of the world’s most iconic brands – for the 2012 cruise season,” said Cathy McGrail, manager of Cruise Development for the Halifax Port Authority. “We’ve been eagerly awaiting this day since it was announced over a year ago and we’re excited to showcase our city to a new demographic.”

Disney Magic crew members will be visiting more than 130 children in two hospitals in Halifax and Saint John with character visits this week. Over the years, these visits have grown into a tradition for crew members to demonstrate our commitment to the local community.

In September, the Disney Magic will reposition to sail 6-, 7- and 8-night Western Caribbean itineraries from Galveston, Texas for the first time. In May of 2013, the Disney Magic will cross the Atlantic to begin a summer season in the Mediterranean.
