Play as Marvel's The Avengers in Disney Club Penguin

Marvel mania has reached all the way to Club Penguin Island, the #1 Virtual world for kids, as penguins assemble for the Marvel Super Hero Takeover, an epic online event starting June 14th through July 3rd.

A meteor has hit the island of Club Penguin, powering up the dangerous Destructobot. Players can choose to suit up as one of 14 Marvel Super Heroes or Super-Villains, including Avengers characters such as Iron Man, Captain America, Hulk, and Thor, as well as the mischievous Super-Villain Loki.

“Everyone wants to feel special and believe that they can do something that no one else can do. That optimism is what drives both Club Penguin and the Marvel story lines and characters,” said Lane Merrifield, co-founder of Club Penguin and executive vice president of Disney Interactive Worlds. “Club Penguin and Marvel characters are the perfect match, and I’m sure our players will love it!”

Neil Patrick Harris Returns, Olivia Newton John Added to Candlelight Processional

If you’ve ever visited Walt Disney World Resort during the holidays, you can only imagine the planning that goes into creating the spectacular holiday offerings for each of our four parks. Our cast members are already hard at work planning every detail our guests will enjoy this holiday season – including lining up some wonderful celebrity talent for this year’s Candlelight Processional at Epcot.

If you’re not familiar, the Candlelight Processional is a beloved holiday offering at Epcot that combines seasonal music with a reading of scripture by a celebrity narrator. It will be performed nightly November 23 – December 30, at 5, 6:45 and 8:15 p.m.

I was just given permission to share a sneak peek at the list of celebrities who have already been confirmed to appear in this year’s show. This is only a partial list, so not all dates will be listed. I’ll update the list as additional narrators are confirmed. I’m happy to report that Neil Patrick Harris, a crowd favorite, is back. So is Gary Sinise, who’s a sort of honorary “cast member” for his appearance in the Mission: SPACE pre-show.

New for this year is actress/singer Olivia Newton John.

  • Nov. 23–25: Isabella Rossellini – (film/TV star and wildlife conversationalist)
  • Nov. 26–29: Neil Patrick Harris – (Emmy Award-winner, Broadway star and TV host)
  • Nov. 30–Dec. 1: Whoopi Goldberg – (television host, actress and comedian)
  • Dec. 11–13: Jodi Benson – (singer and actress)
  • Dec. 14–16: Olivia Newton John (singer and actress)
  • Dec. 20–22: Trace Adkins – (Award-Winning Country music artist)
  • Dec. 23–25: Gary Sinise – (actor and musician)
  • Dec. 29–30: Marlee Matlin (Academy Award-winning actor and TV star)

You Think You Know...But You Have No Idea: Dish on the Dining Plan

Have you ever had one of those, “huh?” moments?  You know the ones I’m talking about?  It’s a moment of enlightenment.  A moment where you learn something that will change your life FOREVER.  Okay, so that is a bit dramatic… but in my defense, these moments of revelation will forever change the way I vacation at Disney World!  Today we are taking a look at the Dining Plan (the free dining plan that is) because, friends, you think you know…but you have no idea.  Let’s dish on the dining!

Timing is EVERYTHING

So, if you have booked with free dining lately, you’ll know that there are only certain dates that qualify as free.  Did you know that there is a little (teeny) bit of wiggle room?  I had NO clue.  That was until a few months ago when I set to task making reservations.  After a few frustrating hours of finding NO open slots in reservations, I began to think that maybe we picked the wrong week.  No problem, I’ll just switch our dates.  But then a big problem hit me…part of the appeal of going when we did was that we could get free dining and still be in the parks for the Tower of Terror 10 Miler (which I am running!  YAY!).  So, with hope to find a solution to our reservation woes, I came across the BEST piece of information!  I found out that as long as you book to stay within the time frame that free dining is offered (meeting requirements) then you still get free dining. So, that meant that even though we check in on the last day of free dining because we are staying for a week we are covered!  Hooray!  So we changed our date and guess what…the reservations opened up!  Maybe other guests were in the dark on this delicious detail…maybe it was just a popular week.  Either way, I’ll take it!  Here I thought the dates meant the deal was over and I learned something new!  I thought I knew, but I had no idea!

Top 5 Ways to Beat the Heat at Walt Disney World

One of the biggest problems guests encounter visiting Walt Disney World is the heat! Extreme heat and humidity can really limit your day at the parks, as well as put a drain on your wallet as you are constantly buying Mickey Premium Bars and drinks to cool down. Heat can also make waiting in line and walking through the parks a real chore, especially when traveling with kids.

Therefore, to provide some relief from the central Florida heat, here are my Top 5 Ways to Beat the Heat at Walt Disney World.

1. Resort Hop-This is one of my favorite things to do at Disney World and a great activity to do during the heat of the day. After visiting Epcot or the Magic Kingdom in the morning, hop aboard a monorail and visit the deluxe resorts. You can explore some of the best resorts Disney has to offer, get some great pics, enjoy their breathtaking views, and even do a little shopping all in the shade and away from the sun!

2. Swim/Water Park-Disney offers some of the best resort pools and water parks anywhere! Many Disney pros recommend visiting the theme parks early in the morning and then coming back in the evening; and during the summer, we agree! So if you head back to your resort, visit a pool to cool off or hop aboard a bus to Typhoon Lagoon or Blizzard Beach. This is a great way to pack as much Disney fun in a day without letting the heat dominate your schedule.

D23′s Sip & Scream coming to Walt Disney World

Join the D23 Team as we add a Halloween twist to our annual Sip & Stroll event. This year the theme is Sip & Scream, and D23 Members are in for a spook-tacular feast of the senses!

Our evening begins Tuesday, October 2, for those guests who purchase the “Super Scream” package. Attendees are encouraged to dress up like their favorite Disney movie star or character as we hit Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a nighttime costume party! First stop is a tour of the Creative Costuming building, where guests will have a chance to see where some of Disney’s most detailed outfits are designed and constructed. Then it’s off to dinner inside The Great Movie Ride. This progressive dinner makes you the star of the show, as we wine and dine our way through the elaborate sets of this signature park attraction, stopping for drinks in the gangster’s den, dinner in the old west, and for dessert we will head “over the rainbow.”

Wednesday begins at 10 a.m. with coffee and tea provided inside World ShowPlace, where guests will be treated to presentations highlighting this year’s Epcot International Food & Wine Festival and how Disney celebrates the ghoul-iest time of the year.

Disney XD's 'Ultimate Spider-Man' Renewed For a Second Season

Disney XD must be really happy with how their newest cartoon, ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’, because they’ve announced the show has been renewed for a second season. The show follows Peter Parker through his misadventures in high school while also dealing with his alter ego and working with SHIELD. The show has been getting strong ratings for the network, and it seems that people are really taking to the show. I’ve enjoyed watching it, especially within the Marvel Universe Block. This news comes off the heels off last weeks announcement that ‘Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes’ had been cancelled in favor of the new ‘Avengers Assemble’ cartoon. So it appears that the Marvel Universe Block will continue next year, but now in its current form. Are you excited that ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ has been renewed for a second season? Disney Launches the Art of Frankenweenie Exhibition

I’m very excited to announce that Disney is launching the Art of Frankenweenie exhibition this month, which is set to tour seven countries! Tim Burton’s latest stop-motion masterpiece arrives in theaters on October 5, 2012.

The exhibition’s tour kicks off in Barcelona, Spain, June 18 through the 21st at CineEurope. It will make its way to the US by heading to Comic Con San Diego in San Diego, California, July 11-15. Once the tour is complete, the exhibition will have visited seven countries, including Mexico, Spain, Canada, France, the US, England, and Japan.

The exhibition will show the filmmaking process of the stop-motion film. There will be sketches by Burton, props, and puppets from the film on display.

What makes this so exciting for me is that, A) I love Tim Burton films and I’ve been looking forward to this one, and B) Patrick and I will be covering Comic Con, so we’ll be able to see it and write about it! Woohoo! I can’t wait to share it with you all in July!

Some Celebrity Narrators Announced for the 2012 Candlelight Processional Performances

Disney has released a partial list of celebrities that will be participating in this years Candlelight Processional performances. They will take place during the Holidays Around the World celebration at Epcot. This year’s performances will take place from November 23 to December 30.

The shows will take place at the American Gardens theater. Park admission is required but the show is free with standby seating available. You can also purchase a lunch or dinner package that will allow you to have priority seating.

Below is a list of performers scheduled to appear.

Saving on Souvenirs at Walt Disney World

For many of us the trips we plan to Disney are about making memories, family time and good old fashioned fun.  For our kids its about all that…and the souvenirs.  Let’s face it Disney is pretty good at tempting us adults too!  They have exclusive Park Only merchandise and the cutest little sweatshirts, stuffed toys, trading pins…OH MY!  I could go on and on.  They have not been in business for this long without knowing how to merchandise.  Here are a few tips to keep your wallet happy as well as your kids (and you).

1.  Buy Before You Go.  Check out the Disney Store or Disneystore.com for small gifts you know your kids will enjoy.  The key here is small as you are going to bring them with you on your trip.  Little princess cell phones, McQueen bouncy balls, stuffed Tiggers are all good ideas.  Looking for these items on sale is the objective.  Even other stores like Target, Kohl’s or Toys R Us carry Disney items.  Pick up what you can and put it aside.  Tip:  If you are flying and have so much of this stuff that you require an extra piece of luggage, you probably aren’t saving money.  If it makes sense you can also mail packages to your resort ahead of time.  Again weigh the cost here of shipping.
