Star Wars Lover Builds a massice AT-ST House for Cat

Buffy is the lucky cat to benefit from an owner who loves Star Wars and has some carpentry skills. Apparently, many Star Wars fans love to build massive AT-AT (“All Terrain – Armored Transport”) cat condos to let their furry friends live comfortably in their fandom world. But, Buffy’s owner went a step further and went the All Terrain Scout Transport (AT-ST) route for a playhouse.

The AT-ST built for Buffy looks very similar to the real thing but does have a carpeted landing platform for Buffy to get comfortable on while napping.

The things we do for our pets…what have you done for your furry friends? Let me know in the comments below!

Whole-Pumpkin Decorating from Disney Family Fun

Disney pumpkin decorating

My kids and I went to a local pumpkin farm yesterday for some festive fall fun. We came home with four little pumpkins and one mini-gourd that were just begging for a Disney makeover. Now, my family does not celebrate Halloween, but that doesn’t mean we don’t like getting crafty and creative. Since we don’t do ghouls, monsters, or wizardry, we opted for some whole-pumpkin decorating ideas we found at Disney Family Fun’s Spoonful.

First, because we are a little batty around here, we made Bat-o’-lanterns out of one of the round pumpkins and the mini-gourd. The instructions called for

  • One pumpkin
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Black craft foam for wings and ears
  • White craft foam for eyes
  • Craft sticks
  • Toothpicks
  • Printable wing/eye/ear template
  • Glue (we used cool-temp hot glue gun)
  • Scissors

Controversy Surrounding Disney’s Newest Princess Sofia

Controversy Surrounding Disney's Newest Princess Sofia

Calling all young girls…okay, who are we kidding? Calling all Women, young and old alike, Disney has a new princess and her name is Sofia. Disney’s newest princess is set to debut on the Disney Channel on November 18th in her made-for-TV movie, “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess.”

Sofia will be joining the ranks of Cinderella, Snow White, Jasmine, and Tiana and taking her rightful place as Disney’s newest and youngest princess. But, little Sofia is making her debut to the world already surrounded by controversy.

When Disney executive producer Jamie Mitchell was asked by Entertainment Weekly about why Sofia’s mother (Miranda) has a darker complexion than the rest of the characters he simply responded, “She is Latina.”

Causing some controversy is the feeling by some that Disney is downplaying Sofia’s heritage on purpose because Disney believes people will not accept her based on her heritage that she is Latina.

“Are they afraid that some people are not going to accept this princess because she is Latina?” Alex Nogales, President and CEO for the National Hispanic Media Coalition, a non-profit organization that promotes Latino equality in the entertainment industry, said to Fox Latino.

Behind the Seeds Tour – A Different Side of Epcot

Mickey Pumpkins at Living with the Land Ride

Mickey Mouse shaped tomatoes? Pumpkins resting in hammocks in the air? No, it’s not the dream I had last night after spicy pizza and too much Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. These are just two of the interesting things that you can see on the Behind the Seeds Tour at Epcot. The first thing that most of us think of enjoying at Epcot is that coveted Fastpass for Soarin’, Mission Space or Test Track; however, Epcot has even more to offer, especially if you are a Disney nerd like me!

This tour, which is located in the Land pavilion, is something that I had wanted to try for many years and it was even better than I had hoped for. If you have ever ridden the Living with the Land attraction, then you have seen a small portion of one area that you will explore during this hour-long walking tour. It is a great experience with several unique highlights.

  • Price:While wonderful and interesting, some of the tours at Disney World can be rather pricey; especially if you have a large family. This tour is much more reasonable at $18.00 per adult (ages 10 and up) and $14.00 per child (ages 3-9 years old) currently.  15% annual passholder, DVC, Disney Visa, and military discounts are offered.

Tastes So Good – Mac & Cheese Truffle Oil Hot Dog from Fairfax Fare

Tastes So Good - Mac & Cheese Truffle Oil Hot Dog from Fairfax Fare

Warning:  If you are on a diet please just look away.  I am not joking, what I am about to show you will tempt even the most strong willed people.  It really will.

On my latest trip to Walt Disney World I set out to try several food items I had not yet crossed off my Disney Dining Bucket List.My most anticipated item to cross of the list was the Mac & Cheese and Truffle Oil Hot Dog from Fairfax Fare at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.  I am not too proud to admit I love a good hot dog and I love mac and cheese, so combining the two seemed like a match made in heaven.  The Mac & Cheese and Truffle Oil Hot Dog will cost you $8.59 or on the Disney Dining Plan 1 counter service credit.  If you choose to use a counter service credit, you will also get a large beverage, chips and a dessert (go with the carrot cake!).

When your order is ready for pickup at the counter I think you will be pleased with what you see.  The Mac &  Cheese and Truffle Oil Hot Dog is also served with bacon on top! Wow – What a combination! Before you dig in make sure to get plenty of napkins and a fork to catch all of the goodies that are about to fall off.  Roll your sleeves up and take a big bite!

The flavor combo here really works! The truffle oil you can certainly taste but it is not overpowering.  The bacon adds a nice crisp to each bite and the mac and cheese is super creamy.  This hot dog is out of this world!  Give it a try, you will be happy you did!

Gil Pohl has been battling cancer on his own and only recently revealed he had Stage 4 cancer to some of his closest friends and coworkers.

“He was trying to keep it  from us,” explained his lieutenant, Bryan Pacheco. “He didn’t want to trouble  us.”

Pacheco found out a few  weeks ago. He said Pohl was getting off of work, and mentioned he was on his way  to the doctor’s office to undergo tests. That’s when Pohl learned his cancer is  in stage four.

“We found out that he’s  terminal,” Pacheco said.

Pohl was told at that doctor’s appointment he had about two years to live.

Splitsville Entertainment Complex Debuts at WDW

Splitsville Entertainment Complex Debuts at WDW

The age-old image of bowling is about to change with the opening of Splitsville, America’s Bowling Alley, at Downtown Disney West Side this fall.

Splitsville’s 50,000 square feet, two-story location will be unlike traditional bowling alleys — with 30 lanes separated into several clusters to create a one-of-a-kind perspective immersed in hip and retro elements. The Downtown Disney location also will boast billiard tables, live entertainment, a dramatic balcony and ample outdoor seating.

Placing a whole new spin on the bowling experience with its emphasis on unique design, Splitsville will greet guests with upscale sushi bars, plush booths and dynamic decor overlooking the bowling lanes. Between strikes and spares, guests can feast on menu items including hand-tossed pizza, fresh-rolled sushi, grilled mahi-mahi with “Voodoo” shrimp and hand-cut filets alongside alley classics such as cheeseburgers and crinkle-cut fries served right at the lane.

Splitsville at Downtown Disney is the Orlando-based chain’s fifth location joining venues in Tampa, FL, Miami, FL, Fairview, TX and Fredericksburg, VA. The expansion to Downtown Disney comes amid a growth era for the sport of bowling, which is the most popular participation sport in America with nearly 70 million people participating in the sport each year, according to the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of America.

Wreck-It Ralph Soundtrack to be Released on October 30, 2012

Wreck-It Ralph Soundtrack to be Released on October 30, 2012

Walt Disney Records will release the soundtrack for the Walt Disney Animation Studios film “Wreck-It Ralph” on Oct. 30, 2012, which features four new songs and a score by composer Henry Jackman (“Winnie the Pooh,” “X-Men: First Class”). Owl City contributes the end-credit song “When Can I See You Again?” Directed by Rich Moore, produced by Clark Spencer and featuring the voices of John C. Reilly, Sarah Silverman, Jack McBrayer and Jane Lynch, “Wreck-It Ralph” crashes into theatres on Nov. 2, 2012.

Classically trained composer Henry Jackman was called on to write the score for “Wreck-It Ralph,” helping to shape the film’s diverse worlds with music. Jackman researched arcade games and incorporated their classic sounds into the score, bringing the arcade and its individual games to life.

According to Jackman, the score was driven by the story, which allowed him to tap his classical roots, too. “When something emotional is developing, it actually opens the door to the orchestral score without it feeling imposed,” he said.

Underscoring the chaos and excitement of Hero’s Duty, the first-person shooter game, GRAMMY®-winning artist Skrillex wrote the game-play music, “Bug Hunt,” hand-picking Netherlands’ producers/DJs/videogame soundtrack composers Noisia to remix the track for the album. “The mood of that game world is high-energy and futuristic. I make music with many different colors of the emotional spectrum—this reflects a more aggressive side of my music.”

Also contributing to the end credits are Buckner & Garcia, the team behind the 1982 Top-10 hit “Pac-Man Fever.” Jerry Buckner of Buckner & Garcia co-produced the song “Wreck-It, Wreck-It Ralph” with hit songwriter/producer Jamie Houston (Steven Tyler, Macy Gray).

Building Anticipation, Not Stress-How to Have Fun While Waiting in Line at Walt Disney World

Building Anticipation, Not Stress-How to Have Fun While Waiting in Line at Walt Disney World

Waiting in line at the Disney parks can be a stressful, agonizing experience. Especially from the perspective of the children in your party! Think about the anticipation they are feeling while waiting to board their FAVORITE attraction, or even the “fear of the unknown” on a new one. No matter what, waiting is part of the Disney experience. As parents, it’s good to be prepared to entertain your kids while in line. Today I’m going to share some ideas with you about keeping your kids entertained-and your stress level down-while waiting in line.

  • Screen power. While standing in a particularly long line, our boys like to play their 3DS game systems. We stow them in the backpack-which is with us at ALL times-and allow them to choose ONE game to keep in it all day. My iPhone has such apps as Pooh’s Birthday Surprise and Peter Pan, along with coloring pages for my three-year old.
  • Hidden Mickeys. Mickey is ALL OVER the Disney parks. In fact, there’s a whole guide-book devoted to finding them in obscure places. Have your kids look around the attraction you’re waiting for, and in the park area around it, to find some Hidden Mickeys. How many can you find before the line moves? Keep a running record of the most Mickeys found that day and whoever finds the most gets to choose that evening’s ice cream treat.
