‘Wreck-It Ralph’ Review

'Wreck-It Ralph' Review

What happens when you take one of the best writers from ‘The Simpsons’, combine him with one of the most creative animation studios in Hollywood, and give them some of the best working comedians today? You come up with one of the most brilliant, fun, and hugely heartfelt movies to come out of Disney Animation Studios in quite some time, ‘Wreck-It Ralph’. Directed by Rich Moore, best known for his work on ‘The Simpsons’ and ‘Futurama’, ‘Wreck-it Ralph’ transports us into the world of video games in a way you never thought you’d see, and you may never look at games the same way again. The incredibly talented voice cast, lead by Academy Award nominated actor John C. Reilly(‘Step Brothers’, ‘Chicago’) as Ralph, also features Sarah Silverman(‘The Sarah Silverman Program’, ‘School of Rock’) as Vanellope von Schweetz, one of the most adorable video game characters you may ever see, Jack McBrayer (’30 Rock’, ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall), as Fix-it Felix, Jr., the hero of his game ‘Fix-it Felix, Jr.’, and Ralph’s foe,  Jane Lynch (‘Glee’, ‘Role Models’) as the hardened Sergeant Calhoun of the game ‘Heroes Duty’, and Alan Tudyk (‘Firefly’, ‘Suburgatory’) as King Candy, the ruler of ‘Sugar Rush’, a racing game in the vein of ‘Mario Kart’. With such great talent working behind the scenes, it would be hard for a movie like this to falter. Thankfully, it doesn’t, and with some incredible writing and a well made story, ‘Wreck-it Ralph’ is one of Walt Disney Animation’s  strongest films to date, and one people will be falling in love with for years.

Mayor Frank Flanders Declares Friday, November 2, 2012, “Wreck-it Ralph Day” In Ottumwa, Iowa

Disney’s hilarious arcade-game-hopping adventure “Wreck-It Ralph” will be getting red-carpet treatment in the Video Game Capital of the World, as the Mayor of Ottumwa issues a PROCLAMATION, declaring Friday, November 2, 2012, to be “Wreck-It Ralph Day” in Ottumwa, Iowa.

The Proclamation will be unveiled by Mayor Frank Flanders during ribbon-cutting and cake-cutting ceremonies at the Ottumwa 8 Theatre, on Thursday, November 1 at 11:15 p.m. The event will be attended by many of Ottumwa’s civic, societal and business leaders, as well as by video game fans from around the region.

Mayor Flanders said, “Ottumwa has long been a cultural crossroads for the global video game culture and it’s important for the City of Ottumwa to lend public support to Disney’s creative efforts to produce an animated film that uplifts and nourishes the human spirit as well as celebrates the video game industry’s positive contributions to society.”

Famous for being one of the few municipalities in the world that supports the worldwide video game culture, Ottumwa asks that its Citizens celebrate this Day of Civic Observance, appreciating ”Wreck-It Ralph” as a film that champions the positive, uplifting aspects of the global video game culture through a warm-hearted, family oriented film. “This may be the only instance in the world of a City celebrating a video game movie premiere on an official civic level,” said Walter Day, Twin Galaxies Founder and member of the board of directors of the International Video Game Hall of Fame & Museum.

Disney Donating $2 Million to the Hurricane Sandy Relief Fund

Hurricane Sandy was devastating for the East Coast, especially in New York and New Jersey. As a resident of New Jersey, I am overwhelmed by the outpouring of offers of help, aid and money being donated to the people most in need right now. Disney never disappoints in their efforts to help others and they have announced today a $2 million commitment to the Hurricane Sandy Relief and Rebuilding Fund.

Chairman and CEO Robert Iger made the announcement and stated “It’s hard to fathom the utter devastation from this storm. Thousands of people in the hurricane’s path lost everything and face the daunting challenge of putting their lives and communities back together. We hope this helps provide immediate aid needed to get through this disaster and begin the road to recovery.”

Disney has declared $1 million of the donation to go to the American Red Cross for immediate assistance and the remaining $1 million to go to various funds to help in the efforts. Disney will also be running public service announcements on ABC, abc.com, abcnews.com, Radio Disney and ESPN’s family of networks encouraging viewers to support the Red Cross’s relief efforts.

Disney is a proud sponsor of the American Red Cross Annual Disaster Giving Program amongst other things.

Top 5 Nap Spots for little ones in the Magic Kingdom

Sleeping in the Stroller
A long day at Magic Kingdom

Napping in Disney World?  Who needs to nap in the most Magical Place on Earth?  Well, your infant and toddler might.  Ideally a trip back to your room is the best way to get a nap in for a soon to be cranky little one. Especially if they need a 2 hour nap to recharge.  Sometimes that is not possible, so here are my Top 5 nap spots in Magic Kingdom.  I’ve found these to be great places to put back the stroller and cross our fingers.

In no particular order:

  1. Tomorrowland-Benches outside Tomorrowland Indy Speedway.  I know it sounds crazy, but the noise must act like white noise because I’ve had success here.  It’s shaded and the rest of the family can explore the many rides in the area.  A trip on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover or Carousel of Progress, might get your little one relaxed prior to placing them down for their nap.   There  is plenty of space, and amenities like bathrooms and snacks are nearby.
  2. Tom Sawyer Island-This is also a hidden gem to explore.  The boat ride should soothe your little one and by the time you find a quiet bench they will be in Disney Dreamland.  If you have older children you can send them along to explore the island with another adult.  There are caves, a fort and play areas to keep them busy for a while.  The only negative is that while bathrooms are available, snacks are not.   So plan ahead.
  3. Walt Disney World Railroad-This is an idea if your child requires movement to fall  asleep.  While they can not be in the stroller, if you have sling or carrier they will soon be out.  You can ride the railroad as long as you like and although there is noise, it is soothing to the little ones.
  4. Baby Care Center-Located near Main Street USA and the Crystal Palace the  Baby Care Center provides rocking chairs, changing tables and sofas to give infants and their parents a place to wind down.  It can be busy and you need to leave your stroller outside.  But for a little decompression it’s perfect.   The air conditioning is a bonus!
  5. Liberty Square-Check the parade and meet and greet schedules before you commit to this area.  There are a ton of nooks to park with your stroller.  Again, shade is helpful here.  There are quiet spots near the Christmas Shoppe and entrance to Adventureland as you pass The Crystal Palace.

Bluray Review: Disney’s Secret of the Wings will not disappoint!

Bluray Review: Disney's Secret of the Wings will not disappoint!

I am so excited that I am the writer who was able to review the newest movie in the family of Tinkerbell titles.  Disney’s Secret of the Wings will not disappoint the Tink fan in your house!  The Four Disc Combo Pack comes in Blu Ray, DVD Feature Film, Digital Copy, and 3D Blu Ray.  With all those in one convenient combo pack, all your watching options are covered!

We all know Tinkerbell is the mischieveous fairy who can’t resist adventure.  In the Secret of the Wings, she is no different!  She desperately wants a sneak peek into the winter woods-the area forbidden to “warm fairies” such as Tinkerbell.  During her visit, a beautiful, yet strange glow, comes over her wings and she’s determined to find out where that strange glow is coming from.  But….to do so, she has to visit the Keeper, who happens to live smack in the middle of the winter woods.

One of my favorite things about this film is the new characters that Disney introduces us to.  We have Tinkerbell and the other favorites, but also Periwinkle, Dewey, Lord Milori, and others from the winter woods.  And, there aren’t any villians!  It’s sort of nice to watch a movie and not see any bad guys.  Sure, there is conflict, and Tinkerbell ends up sacrificing for the good of others, but she also shows how you can overcome your troubles with a little bit of help from others.
