Disney Theme Park in St. Louis? Well Almost!

Disney Theme Park in St. Louis? Well Almost!

Alright, Disney fans, store this in the back of your head for that Jeopardy Daily Double question.  Back in 1962, Walt Disney himself was in the process of negotiating a Disney Theme Park  in St. Louis, MO.  What could have been?

Walt Disney was approached by the organizers of the St. Louis Bicentennial.  Their request was that he produce a film about the city.  So impressed was Walt with the newly expanding downtown area and the almost complete Arch, he had a better idea.

With inspiration from his Missouri roots, Walt began plans for Riverfront Square.  The location was planned about two blocks from Busch stadium.  The five-story all indoor attraction would be topped off with an atrium ceiling.  Complete with simulated weather and time of day.  The project was on the table from 1963 to 1965 and Disney Imagineers got pretty far in their planning.

Former Mouseketeer Bonita Lynn Fields Elder Dies

Former Mouseketeer Bonita Lynn Fields Elder Dies

Former Mouseketeer Bonita Lynn Fields Elder, died in Indiana this past Saturday after losing a two-year battle with throat cancer, she was 68.

Elders was a wonderful dancer who was able to showcase her dancing talents on “The Mickey Mouse Club” in the 1950’s.  Elders was 12 in 1957 when she won a part on the third season of “The Mickey Mouse Club”.  Elder had always gone by her middle name Lynn, but the show’s producers suggested she adopted the stage name “Bonnie” — a nickname of her real first name because there was a boy cast member with the first name Lynn, reported her cousin Robbin Myers.

Elder continued on as a cast member and performing at California’s Disneyland after the original “Mickey Mouse Club” ended.  Myers said that she and her sister Diana would often visit Elder at Disneyland. They were chatting with her after one show when they heard someone behind them calling out “Bonnie!”

“We turned around, and it was Walt Disney, so we got to meet Mr. Disney!” she said.

Elder appeared in 1980 on a televised program marking the 25th anniversary of “The Mickey Mouse Club.” From 1981 to 1985, she took part in live Mouseketeer reunion shows at Disneyland.

Elder continued on in the entertainment industry and was able to land small parts in several 1960s movies, including “Kissin’ Cousins” with Elvis Presley and “Bye Bye Birdie” with Ann-Margret. She later appeared as a dancer on television shows and on Broadway before opening a dance studio in Santa Monica, Calif.

The Mistle-Tones comes to town on ABC Family’s 25 Days of Christmas

The Mistle-Tones comes to town on ABC Family's 25 Days of Christmas

The Mistle-Tones Premieres Sunday, December 9 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT)

In “The Mistle-Tones,” Holly (Tia Mowry), blessed with an amazing singing voice, is all set to audition for the newly vacated spot in a legendary local Christmas group which was founded by her late mother years ago. Shocked and upset when the slot goes to the barely talented best friend of the group’s leader, Marci (Tori Spelling), Holly sets out to create her own musical group, The Mistle-Tones. After challenging their rivals to a sing-off on Christmas Eve, Holly finds herself on a journey to the real meaning of Christmas–with some new friends and a new love thrown in for good measure. The film also stars Jonathan Patrick Moore, Reginald VelJohnson, Tammy Townsend, Andy Gala, Megan Kathleen Duffy, and Jason Rogel. “The Mistle-Tones” is executive produced by Maggie Malina (“Single Ladies”), from a script by Jed Elinoff & Scott Thomas (“My Super Psycho Sweet 16”), and directed by Paul Hoen (“Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam”).

I love a good christmas movie and this might just be it! Having two amazingly talented actresses as the leads is a brilliant idea from Disney. We have Tia Mowry a Disney veteran and Tori Spelling who we all know from a certain zip code. Both are greatly talented and veterans to the buisness which I’m sure will show when we get to see the movie Sunday Dec.9 . Coming with it’s own soundtrack is a lovely idea as i can’t wait to hear their christmas tunes! I also can’t wait to see the little rivalry brewing between Holly (clever name) and Marci there’s sure to be some tinsel flying when these two get into it!

To make the holiday a little brighter, ABC Family will release an accompanying “The Mistle-Tones” movie soundtrack on Sunday, November 18. Featuring nine songs from the movie sung by the cast, the soundtrack will be available exclusively on Itunes.

Part of the Disney/ABC Television Group, ABC Family is distributed in over 97 million homes. ABC Family features programming reflecting today’s families, entertaining and connecting with adults through relatable programming about today’s relationships – told with a mix of diversity, passion, humor and heart.

Man Faking Cancer Got a Free Trip to Disneyland

Man Faking Cancer Got a Free Trip to Disneyland

Jeffrey Averett, 46-year old South Jordanian, decided to fake cancer in order to get a free trip for him and his family to Disneyland. Court documents show that Averett was charged with felony communications fraud last week.

A Mormon ward threw a fundraiser for Averett last September in an effort to send him and his family on a final vacation. Police tracked down transactions in Southern California and Disneyland between September 21-26 and they identified $1,700 in donated money in bank accounts for Averett and his wife.

Detectives checked Averett’s medical records and found that Averett did not have cancer and was not terminally ill.

Many wonderful organizations raise money to give kids and adults trips to Disney, amongst other things, in this case it unfortunately backed fire…most of the time the recipients are well-deserving. What do you think? Can you imagine a crime that is more sad? Let me know…

Peter Pan, that classic movie that has spawned rides all over the world, is coming to Disney Blu-Ray on February 5th, 2013!  Why so late, you ask?  Well, that is because that is the 60th Anniversary of the original release of the movie!

I am looking forward to the movie release quite a bit, because that is the day before my birthday!  The Peter Pan Diamond Edition, which consists of the Blu-Ray Disc, the DVD, the Digital Copy and the Storybook App, has a suggested retail price of $44.99 in the US, and $51.99 in Canada.  That would make a great birthday present for me or any other Disney enthusiast who has a Blu-Ray player!  Maybe I should send this post on over to my wife! 😉

However, if you pre-order now on Amazon.com, you can receive an $8 coupon to be used at check-out.  Also, Amazon.com has the pre-order price marked at $30.99, and when you use the $8 coupon, you’re pre-order price becomes $22.99 before shipping, and around $25 after shipping costs.  I haven’t been able to determine how long the coupon is good for, so if you are thinking about waiting and seeing about whether you want to buy the movie, you may end up losing out on that valuable coupon!

To help you decide whether you want to purchase the movie or not, here is a trailer you can watch!  Enjoy!

Preview Period Has Begun for Fantasyland

fantasyland

The day we all have been waiting for is finally here…in a bit controversial and different from announced way. The new Fantasyland is open! Though scheduled to open on December 6th, they have begun what is being called a “preview period”.  Disney Parks Blog reports that the new expansion’s “Preview Period” began on Nov. 19, which means the new rides, experiences and restaurants are accessible to all Magic Kingdom guests with some limitations such as limited operation hours.

The new areas open include:

Be Our Guest Restaurant — a new Beauty and the Beast-themed, French-inspired restaurant with first-come, first-served lunch hours and dinner options.

Bonjour! Village Gifts — a Beauty and the Beast and The Little Mermaid retail shop in Belle’s Village.

Enchanted Tales With Belle — an interactive show with Belle re-enacting the popular stories from Beauty and the Beast.

Gaston’s Tavern — another eatery theme after the famous movie. The restaurant’s iconic dishes are a pork shank and LeFou’s Brew.

Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid — ride a clam shell and experience the story of The Little Mermaid with the film’s popular (and extremely catchy) music.

The official grand opening date of the new Fantasyland is Dec. 6.

LEGO Star Wars Battle Orders iOS App – Conquer the Galaxy Brick By Brick

LEGO Star Wars Battle Orders iOS App - Conquer the Galaxy Brick By Brick

Lego Star Wars Battle Orders is now available for FREE in iTunes. This iOS app is very simplistic and fun. After choosing to fight on the light-side or dark-side you’ll use your finger to swipe what planet your ships should build a base on. Stand ready because opposing forces will be ready to fight for the right to build that base.

The trademark Lego looks are there along with the wonderful Star Wars look and feel, not to mention the sound effects and John Williams music. What was lacking was in the initial directions. It will take some time to get used to how it all works and what the different icons represent. As the levels grow in difficulty you will be able to earn some pretty cool power-ups so be ready to experiment when new symbols appear.

Overall this is a really entertaining app for the casual gamer on-the-go. Download it today. It’s free so what have you got to loose?
