Disney enthusiasts, mark your calenders for March 13, 2013!

Walt Disney Home Entertainment is set to release four new catalog releases that day, featuring ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’, and three double packs featuring ‘Mulan‘, ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame‘, and ‘Brother Bear‘, as well as each their respective sequels. This is great news, because it means we’re getting more of Disney’s back catalog of films finally in high-definition, being completely remastered, being the best they’ve looked since they were in theaters. The most exciting of the releases, at least for me, is ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit?’, which is one of my all time favorite films. The Robert Zemeckis directed film is one of the most visually cool, and just flat out excellent films. Featuring a fun hybrid of cartoon animation and live action, as well as great cameos from many famous toon characters, it’s one film I’ve been hoping would see a blu-ray release soon. I’m really looking forward to seeing all of these on blu-ray though, and I know many others will be as well. Which of the these new films are you looking forward to adding to your collection? A Year of Surprises, All-New Spas, Magic and More Welcome Walt Disney World Resort Guests in 2013

Even more magic is in store for Walt Disney World Resort guests in 2013. From the excitement of New Fantasyland to new tres francais additions to Epcot dining, from being grandly pampered at a new Grand Floridian spa to weekly guest surprises only Disney can do – all this and more welcomes guests in 2013.

In the shadows of Cinderella Castle rises New Fantasyland, welcoming Magic Kingdom guests into classic storybook worlds where elephants fly and castles touch the sky, where a beauty meets a beast and a mermaid plays under the sea.

Representing the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history, Fantasyland doubles in size with the addition of Enchanted Tales with Belle, Under the Sea ~ Journey of the Little Mermaid, Be Our Guest Restaurant, a re-themed Barnstormer Featuring the Great Goofini, two carousels of Dumbo, the Flying Elephant (complete with interactive queue), Gaston’s Tavern, Pete’s Silly Sideshow, a new family play area and much more.

Even More New Fantasyland to Debut in 2013

On top of the flurry of those December 2012 grand openings in the expanded New Fantasyland, 2013 sees another new addition to the pixie-dusted lineup. Disney princesses including Cinderella, Tiana and Rapunzel will have a new home for meeting their loyal subjects when Princess Fairytale Hall opens in 2013 in the shadows of Cinderella Castle. The castle-like entrance will feature walls of stone and stained glass windows leading to a large, high-ceilinged room where portraits of the princesses adorn the walls. When summoned, Magic Kingdom guests will proceed to elegantly furnished chambers to meet the princesses. Another coming attraction, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train — a first-of-its-kind coaster with ride vehicles that swing back and forth — makes its debut in spring 2014.

Disney’s Heavyweights Blu-ray Review

Back in September, I posted a press release for the movie, Heavyweights.  You can imagine how hard it has been for me to wait for that movie to arrive on my front step.  The day has arrived!  Children of the 90’s REJOICE!!!!!

Disney’s Heavyweights is finally on Blu-Ray and it is 90sriffic!!!!  I feel like I’ve been transplanted back to a time where video tapes were the rage, summer camp genre movie reigned supreme, and the quintessential food fight snuck its way into every movie!  I am at home with the kids of “Camp Hope.”   This movie holds a special place in my heart, so it goes without question that I give it an automatic 2 (Mickey gloved) thumbs up!  I can’ t wait to tell you my favorite features of this Blu-ray version!  Let’s “do it to it!”

The skinny…

Gerry, and overweight teen is sent away for a summer at Camp Hope, a camp for overweight teens.  Originally, he dreads going to camp, but he quickly learns within the first hours that the camp isn’t really all that bad.  For the past 32 years the lovable Bushkin’s have run Camp Hope and given overweight kids a dream summer filled with go-karts, caring counselors, and of course, THE BLOB!  The tradition of greatness at Camp Hope comes to a screeching halt when the campers discover that the Bushkin’s have been forced to sell the camp to a crazy fitness guru, Tony Perkins (Ben Stiller).  Tony and his crew makeover the camp into a miserable place.  Campers are offered zero fun or food and Tony goes to great lengths to force them to lose weight.  Finally, the campers and counselors alike have had enough and they unite to take back the camp!  This is a funny movie, full of great memories and good times and it should definitely take a place in your collection!

  • You can find these “free” snack stops in the special MVMCP park map or by looking for the huge glowing lanterns!
  • You can select apple slices and apple juice if you wish!

The Kinsey Collection Opens at Epcot in 2013

Starting in late winter 2013, the American story of determination, courage, hope, struggle and inspiration will be told through more than 40 pieces of art, artifacts, books, sculptures and documents on display at the Walt Disney World Resort. At Epcot, the American Adventure pavilion will be home to the Kinsey\’s personal treasures of African-American art and history, amassed from their travels to 90 countries and dating back to the 17th century.

The Kinsey Collection is the intersection where art and history meet, a virtual history book opened wide, giving voice to untold stories of accomplishment and contribution. After previews during African-American Heritage Month in February, the Kinsey Collection is scheduled to open in March 2013. The Kinsey Collection, at the American Heritage Gallery, will be included in Epcot admission.

New Poster For ‘Oz the Great and Powerful’ Revealed

Well, it looks like the marketing for ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ is in full tilt. Just recently, Disney unveiled a new trailer for the film, giving us an even better look at the Sam Raimi helmed prequel to ‘The Wizard of Oz’. Now, we have a new poster for the film that gives us a very cool look at Rachel Weisz’s character, Evanora, in full wicked witch mode. The more I see from this movie, the more excited for it, so I really can’t wait to see how it turns out. Raimi is one of my favorite directors, and has turned out many of my favorite films, including the terribly underrated ‘Darkman’, starring Liam Neeson. Seeing him fully delved into the fantasy genre like this is really great, and I think his visual style and the tone that he usually has is a perfect fit for the world of Oz. March 8, 2013 can’t get here soon enough, at least in my opinion. Hit the jump to view the full poster and read the official press release for the film.

Walt Disney World offers a huge variety of dining options, from snack stands to full 5 course meals with wine pairings and everything in between! Figuring out where to eat can be a difficult decision, and there are a lot of factors to consider. Disney’s Contemporary Resort offers many delicious dining choices, and it’s just a short monorail ride away from the Magic Kingdom, making it the perfect place to go for a meal and a chance to relax and unwind after a long day of rides and fun at MK.

The Contemporary Resort is one of WDW’s Deluxe Resorts, which means it can be pricy to stay at, but it also means that it has more to offer it’s guests, especially when it comes to food!

If you’re looking for a quick bite to eat, you can can head over to Contempo Cafe, the Resort’s Counter Service eatery offering the standard omelettes/breakfast platters for breakfast, an assortment of cold and hot sandwiches and salads for lunch, and flatbreads and pastas for dinner. Special Military Rates on Disney Cruise Lines

There are few people more deserving in this world and I am glad Walt Disney World is continuing to find ways to honor them. In honor of the brave men and women who serve our country Disney Cruise Line is offering special military rates on select sail dates.

Military families need to reconnect and create memories more so than ever and now they can do this on a Disney Cruise for a special rate. Beginning December 17, 2012, the following will go into effect for all new bookings:

  • Military personnel may book one stateroom under the military rates program.
  • A second stateroom may be confirmed, if needed, to accommodate immediate family members only. For example, a family of two adults and four children may confirm two staterooms, based on availability, with the offer. Extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.) do not qualify as immediate family members for the second stateroom.
