Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man: Avenging Spider-Man Coming to DVD February, 5th 2013

Ultimate Spider-Man Avenging DVD box art

I was pleasantly surprised by Marvel’s ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ cartoon, that has been airing on Sunday mornings on Disney XD. The show is well written, witty, and a lot of fun, and it’s definitely one of the better animated series based on the popular character, and it’s one I always enjoy watching. So I’m definitely excited to see that Disney is releasing ‘Ultimate Spider-Man: Avenging Spider-Man’, on DVD on February 5, 2013. The disc will contain twelve episodes from the popular TV series. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem to be a season set, or have any episodes in a particular order. The two disc set actually seems to be the episodes featuring other key Marvel characters, such as Thor, Wolverine, the Hulk, and more, as they help Spider-Man on his exciting adventures in New York City. I’m definitely looking forward to giving this new disc a look, how about you? Will you be adding ‘Ultimate Spider-Man’ to your DVD collection? Let me know in the comments below, only here at Chip and Company! Hit the jump for the full press release and a picture gallery of stills from the release.

Fantasy Faire Makes Regal Debut at Disneyland Park March 12

ff

For many guests at Disneyland Park, the encounter with a Disney Princess and her story is an essential part of any visit. Beginning March 12, 2013, Disney Princesses will await these guests at the new Fantasy Faire, a storybook world that extends Fantasyland and brings its timeless tales to life in fun and surprising ways.

Fantasy Faire creates an enchanting, immersive environment for guests who treasure magical fairy tales. Designed in the charming, old world style familiar to lovers of Fantasyland, this regal village fair is located on the west side of the “Hub” or Central Plaza, expanding  Fantasyland beyond its current boundaries and into a location (the former Carnation Plaza Gardens) near the forecourt of Sleeping Beauty Castle.

Visitors will walk a beautiful pathway leading into the corridors of the Royal Hall, where Princesses await them. Along the way, they will encounter  whimsical design touches, including Geppetto’s cat  Figaro dozing (and occasionally waking) on a window sill, and “Clopin’s Music Box,” a fascinating, interactive mechanical toy representing the Feast of Fools from “The Hunchback of Notre Dame.”

Guests may also explore a charming village square highlighted by Tangled Tower, a magical sculpture inspired by the story of Rapunzel. After dark, Rapunzel’s hair, twisting around the tower sculpture, comes to life with twinkling lights.
A highlight of the Fantasy Faire experience is the Royal Theatre, where guests will be treated to two different shows: the tales of Rapunzel (“Tangled”) and Belle (“Beauty and the Beast”) as presented by Mr. Smythe and Mr. Jones, a pair of vaudeville-style Renaissance storytellers. The princess heroine, Rapunzel or Belle, will join in the fun and remain with the audience to greet guests following the conclusion of the story.

Fairytale Treasures, a shop found inside Fantasy Faire, offers all kinds of Princess dresses, accessories and gifts. For guest refreshment, Maurice, Belle’s inventor father, has transformed an old gypsy wagon into a colorful food cart, Maurice’s Treats, serving bread twists – cheddar cheese garlic and strawberry almond cream flavors – along with a signature beverage, the Boysen Apple Freeze.

The addition of Fantasy Faire will be one of the highlights of the guest experience for Spring-Summer 2013 at the Disneyland Resort. Also coming to Disneyland in time for summer is “Mickey and the Magical Map,” a new, live show presented in the Fantasyland Theatre.  And at Disney California Adventure Park, new characters Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins join the show “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” beginning March 22.

New ‘Mickey and the Magical Map’
“Mickey and the Magical Map” presents Mickey Mouse in his timeless role as the sorcerer’s apprentice. Sorcerer Yen Sid sets his Mapmakers to work and this ensemble cast of male and female performers paints a wondrous map – capable of taking dreamers to any place imaginable and so large it spans the entire stage of Fantasyland Theatre.
Apprentice Mickey lets his curiosity get the better of him and stumbles upon the map’s magical powers. Mickey’s youthful mischief takes him, along with the audience, on a fantastic journey of imagination in the company of the Mapmakers, who help bring his adventures to life.

The journey, presented through amazing theatrical wizardry, colorful visuals and wonderful music, includes encounters with such classic Disney characters as Pocahontas, Mulan, King Louie from “The Jungle Book,” Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” and others. “Mickey and the Magical Map” is designed for Disneyland guests of all ages and represents Disney storytelling at its most thrilling.

Sofia the First and Doc McStuffins Join ‘Disney Junior – Live on Stage!’
Fans of the Disney Junior television hits “Sofia the First” and “Doc McStuffins” will enjoy interacting with these characters at “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!”  They join the gang from “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” and “Jake and the Never Land Pirates” in a show that invites preschoolers to sing, dance and play with enchanting puppets, fanciful scenery and lively music.

Sofia the First, Disney’s first little girl princess, and other characters in the show share ideas with guests, encouraging them to become part of the stories. Sofia is known for showing every little princess-in-training how to sparkle – inside and out.  Doc McStuffins cares for and nurtures toys in need. When the Doc is in, she really knows her stuff, consulting her Big Book of Boo Boos to help diagnose and mend her toy friends.
“Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” is presented several times a day at Disney California Adventure Park.

Fantasy Faire, “Mickey and the Magical Map” and the new stories at “Disney Junior – Live on Stage!” add to the excitement at the Disneyland Resort, a world-class, family vacation destination where guests continue to enjoy Cars Land and Buena Vista Street at the newly expanded Disney California Adventure.

Top Ten Ways to Eat a Mickey’s Premium Bar (AND Not Lose a Single Bite)

disney 2012 #2 060

My absolute favorite thing to eat at Disney World is a Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bar.  I eat at least one a day when I am in the parks. I carefully devour the delectable crunch of the chocolaty exterior as I relish the velvety smooth vanilla ice cream.  Try as I might, this is one snack I just can’t seem to replicate outside of the parks.  I’ve purchased just about every single brand of similarly constructed ice cream bar and sadly, nothing compares.  So, today we are taking a look at enjoying ever last morsel of this park exclusive.  Join me as we look at the top ten ways to eat a Mickey’s Premium Bar (AND not lose a single bite).  Let’s get started!

10.  Eat your Mickey Bar at warp speed.

No casual snacking here!  Open that ice cream up with intent and eat.  No talking, no double tasking, JUST eating…FAST!  Chocolate that melts in your mouth is so much better than chocolate that melts everywhere else because you are taking your precious time!  Make it snappy and enjoy!

9.  Do it with style!

I have a technique for eating this tasty treat.  I stand, hunched over, feet shoulder width apart, Mickey Bar perched carefully over a safety net of napkins and wrapper.  This safety net allows any stray bits of chocolate coating to be salvaged. I’ve been talking about doing an entire post on this technique.  I’ll have to wait until I am back at Disney to this capture this through pictures.  I know you are on the edge of your seat (lol!).  Until then, hopefully this description is enough to save your snack!

‘The Insider’ Comes to Blu-ray on February 19, 2013

insider

I’ve always been curious to see ‘The Insider’, the film directed by Michael Mann, and starring Al Pacino and Russell Crowe, that deals with a famous fight between Lowell Bergman and the Tobacco industry. When I was younger, the subject seemed to adult and I wasn’t interested in it, because I knew I wouldn’t fully understand it. Now though, I think I could finally appreciate the film, so I’m excited to see that Disney is releasing the film on February 19, 2013, on blu-ray. I’m a huge fan of Michael Mann, who has directed quite a few of my favorite films, including ‘Collateral’, starring Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx, and of course, ‘Heat’, starring Robert DeNiro, Val Kilmer, and Al Pacino. With two of the most powerhouse actors in Pacino and Crowe leading the film, I’m sure I’m in for a real treat. I really can’t wait to finally see this film for the first time, and on blu-ray no less, to really get to see the film the way it was meant to be seen.

Have you seen ‘The Insider’? Are you excited to see the film on blu-ray? Let me know in the comments below, only here on Chip and Company, and look for our review early next month.

Return to Oz in the All-New Spring Issue of Disney Twenty-Three on Stands February 12

d23

The spring issue of Disney twenty-three, the flagship magazine of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club, hits stands February 12, loaded with articles to delight both Disney fans and the general public. The cover story, “A Great and Powerful Odyssey,” gives readers an exclusive tour of the land at the end of the road of yellow bricks in Disney’s Oz The Great and Powerful releasing in theaters this March. The article features interviews with stars Rachel Weisz, Michelle Williams and Zach Braff. In addition, there’s a sneak peek of 2014’s Maleficent, starring Angelina Jolie, which offers a new take on the legendary Sleeping Beauty story.

The Emerald City theme continues with a second story illuminating the many connections between Disney and Oz, including Walt Disney’s early attempts to bring Oz to the big screen. The story includes rarely seen images from the Walt Disney Archives and a fond look back at Disney’s 1985 release Return to Oz.

In celebration of the 15th anniversary of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, we sit down with Imagineer Joe Rohde as he reflects on the evolution of Disney’s wildest and most spiritual park.

“Frozen in Time” includes concept art from the upcoming film Frozen, due in theaters this November. Walt Disney Animation Studios brings an ice-covered world to life as Anna (voiced by Kristen Bell) seeks to reverse a curse put on her kingdom by a cold-hearted snow queen (voiced by Idina Menzel), who also happens to be her sister.

A Shout Out to the Magic Kingdom Newsstand

Magic Kingdom Newsstand

Today I’d like to give a shout out to an unsung hero of Walt Disney World.  (And, I’m not talking about Chip.) I’m talking about the Magic Kingdom Newsstand located just inside the turnstiles in the Magic Kingdom.  Most people just walk past this little shop, but I think it’s one of the most important places in the Magic Kingdom.

Let’s start our story way back in the 20th century, when I was a college student working on the Walt Disney World College Program.  (Was it awesome working at Disney World, you ask?  It was beyond awesome.)  I worked in merchandise in the Magic Kingdom, and, yes, you guessed it, my main shop was the Newsstand.

This little shop carries everything one might need entering the park that they forgot from home, like fans, film (do people still use that?), and batteries. Did you forget sunscreen or hats? The Newsstand has got you covered.  It also carries everything you might need on the way out.  Did you forget a snack for the ride home or a gift for a friend?  Did you remember to buy postcards and stamps?  The Newsstand has got you covered.

As a cast member in the shop, I got to see everyone coming and going from the parks.  Thrilled in the morning and thrilled and exhausted in the evening.  And, we had everything people might need to help make their vacations a bit easier and more magical.

So the next time you run into or out of the Magic Kingdom, take a moment to share some love with the Newsstand.  It’s there to help and just wants a bit of attention.

Lots of hugs (to the Newsstand),

Amy

Disney Closing ‘Epic Mickey’ Video Game Developer

Epic-Mickey

It’s a sad time for “Epic Mickey” fans. The interactive division of the Walt Disney Co. announced that it is closing Junction Point Studios, its Texas-based developer that created “Disney Epic Mickey” and its 2012 sequel “Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two.”

Disney said the closure is part of its “effort to address the fast-evolving gaming platforms and marketplace” and to align its resources with its key priorities.  Disney acquired Junction Point in 2007. The studio was led by Warren Spector.

Staring Mickey Mouse and Oswald the Lucky Rabbit, both “Epic Mickey” games were set in Wasteland, a warped version of Disneyland.

The first “Epic Mickey” was released only for the Nintendo Wii. It was the 6th best-selling game the month it was released in 2010. “Epic Mickey 2,” which was available for the Wii, as well as the Sony PlayStation 3 and Microsoft’s Xbox 360, didn’t crack the top 10 when it was released last November, according to gaming industry tracker NPD Group.

Disney unveiled plans earlier this month for a new franchise combining a toy line and a game called “Disney Infinity,” similar to “Skylanders” from Activision-Blizzard Inc. “Infinity” is being developed by Disney’s Salt Lake City, Utah-based developer Avalanche Software and is set to debut in June alongside “Monsters University,” the 3-D prequel to the  “Monsters Inc.”
