Disney Value Resorts – A Great Bargain!

aoa

I am often asked about the differences in Disney World Resort Categories– Value, Moderate, Deluxe and Deluxe Villa.  Each category offers different amenities to guests and with that also comes different costs.

The first tier is Disney’s Value Resorts; this is a great category for families of young ones or traveling on a budget.  For a lower cost, quick getaway with my family, I love these resorts! We stayed in All-Star Music when we were first married and starting our lives together.  The different resorts in this category include Pop Century, Art of Animation and the All Star Resorts (Music, Sports, and Movies).  Each resort has something special to offer without making my wallet cry!

The Value resorts are great, because they all offer different themes, so depending on the mood we’re in, we can get the experience we want!  For the Run Disney events, we usually choose All Star Sports, because it gets us in that fitness mood!   We also love All Star Movies… in the Toy Story section your toys “move” around the room while you are gone, thanks to some magic from Disney “Mousekeeping”.  The new Art of Animation resort recreates some of our favorite scenes from The Lion King, Cars and Finding Nemo.  Oh, and don’t miss the wonderful Landscape of Flavors Food Court at the resort!

Disney VoluntEARS event Paws in the Park is a ‘paw-some’ success

paws

On Feb. 9, Disney VoluntEARS hosted the Disney Kids and Families Zone at the 19th annual “Mardi Paws”-themed Paws in the Park event at Lake Eola in Downtown Orlando. Partnering with the SPCA of Greater Orlando and Disney’s Animal Programs, Disney VoluntEARS assisted Guests at three interactive stations and in meeting our very own Pluto.

The Disney Kids and Families Zone was an interactive way to educate children on how to be compassionate pet owners. Kids learned about pet care and safety, how to make dog toys from everyday household items, and ways to explore and get outdoors with their family and pets.

The Disney Dogs (and Families) and Disney FinancEARS packs have supported Paws in the Park for more than a decade. This year they continued to make a difference in the lives of homeless animals by helping to raise more than $19,000.

Thank you to the Disney VoluntEARS who donated their time to make Central Florida a better place.

Disney Introduces Beautifully Disney Cosmetics for Disney Parks

beautifully-disney

Today the Disney Parks blog announced their newest beauty and cosmetics line, Beautifully Disney.  This magical line will be available beginning in March 2013 and will feature makeup and accessories for lips, eyes and nails.  It will be themed as Disney does best with packaging based on different characters and films.  Color lines will range from classic colors to more trendy colors.  Here is what Disney has to say about this “fashion forward” line:

Beautifully Disney defines timeless beauty through collections of fairytale nostalgia, unlocking harmonious colors. Through the collections of this new and enchanting line, it is the goal to keep guests romanced by the contrast of mysterious yet inviting colors and sparkle to experience modern recreations of our most beloved and treasured Disney characters. Beautifully Disney is sure to bring out the sheer brilliance of your inner most beauty. The character inspired collection is the first of its kind for Disney Parks and has been developed to evoke the spirit, beauty, and fantasy of all things Disney.

Beautifully Disney is for guests who are drawn to gorgeous, wearable, high quality colors, and love to experiment with the latest products, pigments and trends. It has been developed for guests that are inspired by the timeless beauty of our Disney characters, and the diverse stories they represent.

Beautifully Disney provides a rich color collection for lips, eyes, and nails at an exceptional quality level. Through character and storytelling on the cosmetic packaging, guests will be able to choose from their favorite films and characters in various moods. The range will provide a broad expanse of classic colors as well as some fashion forward trend colors that are complementary to the spectrum of skin tones. Coordinating cosmetic bags and beauty tools will round out the initial Beautifully Disney offering to create a truly immersive beauty statement.

I can’t wait to check out the new line, especially any of the nail polishes.  Disney nail polish seems like a good enough reason to plan another trip to Walt Disney World.  (Then again, any reason is a good enough reason for me!) Would anyone like to join me for a Maleficent Manicure?

Beautifully yours,

Amy

‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ Press Junket – Part 2

Oz

On February 17, 2013, I had the privilege of attending the press junket for ‘Oz The Great and Powerful’ at the Langham Hotel in Pasadena, CA. Hosted by Walt Disney Studios, we were given a chance to talk to the cast, director, and producer of the new film that returns us to the magical land of Oz,  and get to ask them questions about the film’s production, hear stories from the set, and so much more. The junket consisted of two different panels, so I felt that the best way to talk about the event was to separate our coverage of the event into two separate posts, to give you the most in depth look at it. The second part will cover the panel with director Sam Raimi, actor Zach Braff, and actresses Rachel Weisz and Michelle Williams.

In case you missed the first part you can read it here

‘The Insider’ Blu-ray Review

insider

In 1999, Michael Mann crafted one of the most captivating, tightly woven, and intense films of the last twenty years. That film is ‘The Insider’, which dares to ask how far would you go to make the truth known? And just how far is one industry going to go to make sure that person is never heard? Based on the incredible true story of Jeffery Wigand, with the aide of ’60 Minutes’ producer Lowell Bergman, aims to finally show the world the true colors of the Tobacco industry, while they form one of the greatest smear campaigns in our history, aimed at destroying Jeffery’s life. The film was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture and Best Actor, and may be Mann’s strongest film as a filmmaker.

Disneyland Must Eat – Blue Bayou Restaurant

bb

I realized I speak of Blue Bayou with my friends a lot. I figured if I was going to mention it so often I should give my whole opinion here instead of sporadically to just my friends and strangers. It’s really far too easy to get me talking about Disney related anything…

You should know that I eat at Blue Bayou pretty much every time I visit Disneyland. Just as an FYI when I visit Disney World I almost always eat at 50’s Prime Time Cafe…  Just a splash of information for you that has absolutely nothing to do with this piece. You’re welcome!

There’s a good reason why I almost always eat here. In my opinion it’s the best food in the park. Also, I love the fact that I get to watch Pirates of the Caribbean boats floating by. You are sitting “outside” at perpetual twilight, no matter what the actual time of day is outside. While you are surrounded by the sounds of the Louisiana Bayou… and the frogs, crickets and fireflies don’t actually bother you… Hint: They aren’t real… Shhh don’t tell…

Toys R’ Us Dives Into the World of Octonauts

shellington-and-the-urchin

Toys“R”Us® will soon introduce an assortment of toys from Fisher-Price® based on the underwater world of  Octonauts, which will splash into its stores nationwide and online at Toysrus.com beginning in March. The World’s Greatest Toy Store® will be the first retailer in the U.S. to offer eager aquatic explorers the opportunity to take an exciting undersea voyage with the preschool line of action figures, playsets and vehicles based on the hit show, which airs daily on Disney Channel and Disney Junior.

The increasingly popular series, Octonauts, inspired by the beloved children’s books of the same name, follows the whimsical underwater adventures of brave Captain Barnacles Bear, swash-buckling Lieutenant Kwazii Cat and their expert medic, Peso Penguin, as the group sets out to explore the world’s oceans, rescue the creatures who live there and protect their habitats – above and below the waves. Produced by Silvergate Media with animation by Academy Award-nominated Brown Bag Films (“Doc McStuffins”), the series initially launched in the U.K. in 2010 before making its U.S. debut on Disney Channel in January 2012 to great ratings.

A Dinner Feast Awaits You At Liberty Tree Tavern

LTT SIgn

There are TONS of amazing Disney World Restaurants to choose from, and you could literally spend days researching and planning which ones you are going to make your ADR’s (or Advance Dining Reservations) for.

If you’re looking for a place to eat dinner at the Magic Kingdom, I highly recommend you make an ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern. You’ll find this New England colonial style Inn at Liberty Square, and as an added bonus you can turn this meal into a mini history lesson for you and your family!

Tina Fey poses with Snow White at Walt Disney World

tf

“Tina Fey, your award-winning series ’30 Rock’ has just ended its successful seven-season run on television. What are you going to do next?”

The response from the multi-talented writer, producer, actress, author, show creator and comedienne easily could have been “I’m going to Disney World!” — because that’s exactly what she did. After production recently ended on her acclaimed comedy series, Fey enjoyed a visit to Walt Disney World Resort. Her next film, “Admission,” is a comedy/drama co-starring actor Paul Rudd and is scheduled to debut in theaters next month.

Disney Parks Blog author Gene Duncan was on hand today at Epcot to capture this photo of Tina posing with “the fairest of them all,” Snow White, at the Germany Pavilion in World Showcase.
