New Permit Sparks Excitement for Disney Starlight Parade at Magic Kingdom
A newly filed permit for the Parade Storage Building at Magic Kingdom may signal the beginning of preparations for the highly anticipated nighttime parade, Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away, set to debut in summer 2025. While Disney has yet to confirm a direct connection between the permit and the new parade, the timing strongly suggests it could be part of the behind-the-scenes groundwork for this dazzling addition.
The Parade Storage Building, located backstage behind Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, is a crucial hub for Magic Kingdomโs parades, providing storage for floats and a workspace for maintenance and repairs. With Disney Starlight expected to showcase cutting-edge technology and a cast of beloved characters, updates to this facilityโsuch as expanded storage space and upgraded power systemsโseem likely to accommodate the paradeโs ambitious scope.
Disney Starlight: Dream the Night Away promises to carry forward the legacy of nighttime spectaculars like the iconic Main Street Electrical Parade, which last graced Magic Kingdom in 2016. This new parade will tell enchanting new stories with the help of the Blue Fairy, who will guide guests on a journey featuring characters from Peter Pan, Encanto, Frozen, and other Disney classics. Using state-of-the-art technology, vibrant floats, and mesmerizing lighting, Disney Starlight will capture the magic of Disney storytelling in a way thatโs both nostalgic and groundbreaking.
Magic Kingdom has been without a regular evening parade for nearly a decade, making Disney Starlightโs debut even more eagerly anticipated. As summer 2025 draws closer, fans are excited to see how this new addition will illuminate the park and create unforgettable memories for visitors of all ages.
Stay tuned for more updates as preparations for Disney Starlight continue to unfoldโbecause soon, the magic of the night will shine brighter than ever at Magic Kingdom!
Orlando International Airport Enhances Baggage Handling to Improve Passenger Experience
As passenger traffic continues to grow at Orlando International Airport (MCO), the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority (GOAA) is making significant strides to modernize its baggage handling systems. These improvements aim to reduce waiting times, streamline operations, and maintain the airportโs reputation as a world-class travel hub. Hereโs a closer look at whatโs happening:
When MCO opened in 1981, its baggage handling system was designed to accommodate passenger volumes of that era. However, following the 9/11 attacks, enhanced safety and security protocols introduced additional demands on the system. Over the years, MCOโs passenger numbers have surgedโ50 million travelers passed through in 2019, climbing to nearly 58 million in 2023. The system now processes thousands more departing bags daily than just a few years ago, highlighting the urgent need for upgrades.
Near-Term Solutions: Express Service Providers
To ease the strain, GOAA adopted a new policy in September 2024, expanding the use of Express Service Providers (ESPs). These third-party vendors will help streamline operations by routing outbound luggage to a Remote Screening Facility and delivering inbound bags directly to off-airport resorts and hotels. This strategy will alleviate congestion in high-traffic processing areas and improve the overall baggage flow. New ESP operations are expected to begin by summer 2025.
Midterm Solutions: Upgrades to Screening Pods
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is spearheading upgrades to the physical screening equipment in MCOโs baggage handling areas, known as pods. One key project, focusing on Pod E, will enhance ethernet, IT, and encoder equipment to improve efficiency and productivity. These improvements will enable MCO and TSA to process passenger bags more swiftly and reliably.
Long-Term Solutions: Overhauling the Infrastructure
The most ambitious component of the plan is a complete overhaul of MCOโs Baggage Handling System, part of a $652 million Capital Improvement Plan. This renovation will integrate seamlessly with ongoing updates to Terminals A and B, offering a state-of-the-art solution for MCOโs unique baggage needs. Known for processing more golf bags, car seats, and strollers than any other airport globally, MCOโs enhanced system will better serve its diverse mix of travelers, including tourists and business conference attendees.
Looking Ahead
MCOโs comprehensive approach to improving baggage handling highlights its commitment to passenger convenience and operational efficiency. By partnering with airlines, the TSA, and other stakeholders, GOAA is ensuring that the airport remains a top-tier travel destination for millions of visitors each year. With near-, mid-, and long-term solutions underway, passengers can look forward to a smoother travel experience in the years to come.

The Astro Orbiter Refurbishment at Magic Kingdom is progressing full steam ahead
Magic Kingdom’s Astro Orbiter is currently undergoing an extensive refurbishment that has seen the removal of its iconic planets and rocket ship vehicles. The Tomorrowland attraction, which normally sends guests “blasting off” in rocket ships to orbit a colorful galaxy of planets, closed on January 13, 2025, for the updates.
Recent photos from the refurbishment reveal the extent of the work being done. The various planets that typically adorn the attraction’s framework have all been removed, along with the rocket ship vehicles that carry passengers, leaving behind the skeletal metal structures that once supported them.
While Disney has not shared specific details about the refurbishment, the removal of all the planets and vehicles suggests this is more than a routine touch-up. It’s possible that the Astro Orbiter is receiving upgraded effects, refreshed paint schemes, or even new ride vehicles as part of this extended downtime.
The Astro Orbiter is scheduled to reopen in summer 2025, giving eager space travelers a few more months to wait before they can once again explore the attraction’s revamped intergalactic landscape. Until then, we’ll be keeping an eye out for any additional details or sneak peeks of the exciting changes that await this classic Tomorrowland ride.
First Look: New Puppets for The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure
Under the sea, excitement is bubbling up as Disney recently shared a sneak peek of the whimsical puppets that will bring Ariel’s underwater world to life in the highly anticipated “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” This all-new theatrical production is set to make a splash at Disney’s Hollywood Studios this fall, and the puppet preview has us practically swimming in anticipation!
First up, let’s talk about those adorable frog puppets. Perched playfully on their lily pads, these amphibious actors look ready to serenade guests with a rendition of “Kiss the Girl” that would make even Sebastian proud. Their colorful designs and expressive features are sure to capture the hearts of audiences young and old.
But the frogs aren’t the only ones making waves. The Instagram sneak peek also showcased a towering pink flamingo puppet that’s guaranteed to add a splash of tropical flair to the stage. With its graceful curves and vibrant plumage, this feathered friend is poised to steal the show whenever it struts into the spotlight.
Of course, no Little Mermaid tale would be complete without Prince Eric’s loyal companion, Max the dog. We’ve seen this furry friend before, but seeing him alongside the other puppets has us even more excited to watch him bound across the stage, tail wagging with delight.
Behind the scenes, Disney’s talented costume designers are hard at work crafting the show’s imaginative designs. The Instagram post gave us a glimpse of one designer putting the finishing touches on what appears to be a seafaring ensemble – perhaps for Prince Eric himself? We can’t wait to see how they’ll bring Ariel’s underwater world to life through dazzling costumes and clever puppet creations.
But the puppets are just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure.” Disney has promised that the show will feature stunning new set pieces and cutting-edge effects that will immerse audiences in Ariel’s vibrant perspective as she explores the wonders around her. From the depths of her grotto to the glittering surface above, we can’t wait to see how this beloved tale will be reimagined for the stage.
As the fall debut draws closer, we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for more behind-the-scenes peeks and sneak previews. If these puppets are any indication, “The Little Mermaid – A Musical Adventure” is shaping up to be a truly magical experience that will transport guests to a whole new world under the sea.
So mark your calendars, Disney fans! This fall, make sure to dive into Disney’s Hollywood Studios for an unforgettable adventure with Ariel, her aquatic amigos, and a cast of puppets that are sure to make a splash. Until then, we’ll be dreaming of wandering free, ready to be part of that world!
Disney Has Shared A Sneak Peek of New Villains Show “Unfairly Ever After”
Get ready for a wickedly good time this summer at Disney’s Hollywood Studios with the debut of “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After.” This dazzling new show promises to give everyone’s favorite fiends a chance to tell their side of the story.
The premise is deliciously devious: The Magic Mirror has summoned guests to hear the tales of misunderstood villains like Cruella de Vil, Captain Hook, and Maleficent. These notorious ne’er-do-wells will break through the mirror and take the stage in a thrilling musical revue to plead their cases and prove once and for all that they’re simply “drawn that way.”
A dedicated team of Disney’s finest has been toiling away for nearly two years to bring this show to life. They’ve concocted a cauldron of cutting-edge stage designs, spellbinding special effects, and earworm-worthy musical numbers that celebrate the villains we love to hate.
In a tantalizing Instagram sneak peek, Disney shared behind-the-scenes images of the production process. We spotted digital animators conjuring up scenes with the likes of Cruella and Hades, as well as a glimpse of the ominously opulent main stage where the villains will hold court.
But here’s the twist: In the end, the audience gets to decide the villains’ fates! After hearing their tales of woe and misfortune, guests will make the final call in an interactive finale that’s sure to be the talk of the park. Dozens of infamous evildoers will be anxiously awaiting your verdict from within the depths of the Magic Mirror’s realm.
Will you be swayed by their silver-tongued arguments and vote for redemption, or will you condemn them to remain “Unfairly Ever After”? One thing’s for sure – with a cast of characters this devilishly charming, it’s going to be a tough decision!
Mark your calendars for later this summer, when “Disney Villains: Unfairly Ever After” brings a delightful dose of wickedness to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It’s sure to be a “mirror-able” experience you won’t soon forget!
Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: A “Hole” Lot of Refurbishment Going On!
Hold onto your hard hats, folks, because Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney’s Magic Kingdom is undergoing some seriously “rocky” renovations! The attraction will be closed for the remainder of 2025 and part of 2026 as crews work to make the wildest ride in the wilderness even wilder.
Orange cones and plywood pieces scattered across the mountain range
Scaffolding next to the track that curves over the Rivers of America
Red straps attached to the wooden framework and scaffolding
Plywood with “Hole” spray-painted on it (looks like they found the “motherlode” of renovation projects!)
Another prop tagged with a green tag (perhaps a “green light” for more updates?)
Crews were hard at work, with large white bags and green tarps nearby. They’re really “drilling down” on these improvements! The track removal and additional scaffolding suggest this refurbishment will be as extensive as the Disneyland version, which included a complete track replacement and upgraded effects.
While the exact details remain a “mystery mine,” we’re excited to see how Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will “rock” our world when it reopens. Until then, we’ll just have to “prospect” other Magic Kingdom attractions for thrills. Stay tuned for more updates on this “dynamite” development!
Disney Cruise Line Introduces New Luggage Tag Format
Disney Cruise Line is making an exciting change to its luggage tag format to improve and streamline the luggage handling process for guests. The new tags, which the cruise line began sending out to guests last week, feature color-coding by ship and a more prominent display of stateroom numbers.
Under the updated system, each ship in the Disney fleet will have its own designated luggage tag color:
Disney Magic: Green
Disney Wonder: Orange
Disney Dream: Blue
Disney Fantasy: Purple
Disney Wish: Maroon
Disney Treasure (upcoming): Yellow
In addition to the ship-specific color scheme, the new tags incorporate several other enhancements:
Concierge tags will now use the same color as non-Concierge tags for that ship, but will be distinguishable by a crossed-key icon. This change applies to both the pre-printed tags mailed to guests and the generic ones available at the port.
For guests with guarantee stateroom bookings, the updated luggage tags include a blank space to write in the assigned cabin number after receiving it. Additionally, stateroom numbers are printed in a larger font size for better visibility and the new tag design eliminates the barcode previously used.
Disney emphasizes that the luggage tag distribution timeline and port check-in process will remain unchanged. Guests will continue to receive their tags on the same schedule prior to sailing. At the port, guests arriving without pre-printed tags can still obtain generic ones from the porters, with both Concierge and non-Concierge versions available.
As the luggage tag update is being implemented mid-season, Disney notes that during the transition period, guests on the same sailing may have a mix of old and new tag formats. However, the company assures travelers that this will not affect luggage delivery. Guests who already received the prior version do not need to request a reprint of the updated tags.
With its growing fleet, including the recent addition of the Disney Treasure, Disney Cruise Line’s new color-coded and stateroom-focused luggage tags aim to make the process of handling and delivering bags easier for crew members and more navigable for guests. Have you received the updated tags for an upcoming DCL sailing? Leave us a comment to let us know!
