Big Thunder Mountain Railroad: A “Hole” Lot of Refurbishment Going On!
Hold onto your hard hats, folks, because Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disney’s Magic Kingdom is undergoing some seriously “rocky” renovations! The attraction will be closed for the remainder of 2025 and part of 2026 as crews work to make the wildest ride in the wilderness even wilder.

As we “mined” for information, we spotted:
- Orange cones and plywood pieces scattered across the mountain range
- Scaffolding next to the track that curves over the Rivers of America
- Red straps attached to the wooden framework and scaffolding
- Plywood with “Hole” spray-painted on it (looks like they found the “motherlode” of renovation projects!)
- Another prop tagged with a green tag (perhaps a “green light” for more updates?)
Crews were hard at work, with large white bags and green tarps nearby. They’re really “drilling down” on these improvements! The track removal and additional scaffolding suggest this refurbishment will be as extensive as the Disneyland version, which included a complete track replacement and upgraded effects.

While the exact details remain a “mystery mine,” we’re excited to see how Big Thunder Mountain Railroad will “rock” our world when it reopens. Until then, we’ll just have to “prospect” other Magic Kingdom attractions for thrills. Stay tuned for more updates on this “dynamite” development!
