Disneyland Off the Map Sweepstakes

D23-Off-the-Map

In celebration of Disneyland’s 58th anniversary today, D23: The Official Disney Fan Club has launched the Disneyland Off the Map Sweepstakes. Twenty-five lucky D23 Members and their guests will be invited to Disneyland Park to visit four of the park’s little-seen but widely heard of locations: Walt Disney’s private apartment, the Lilly Belle VIP parlor car on the Disneyland Railroad, Circle D Ranch, and the Disneyland Dream Suite.

Winners will be able to explore:

  •  Walt Disney’s private apartment: Built during the initial construction of Disneyland, Walt Disney’s private apartment is a quaint studio dwelling, filled with Victorian decor, family photos, and antiques selected by the Disney family.
  • Lilly Belle VIP parlor car: Disneyland guests have long taken grand circle tours on the Disneyland Railroad, but few ever enjoy the ride from the elegant Lilly Belle VIP car parlor. Named after Walt’s wife, Lillian, the Lilly Belle is truly a piece of history, built in 1955, and refurbished to its modern state of luxury for America’s bicentennial celebration in 1976.
  • Circle D Ranch:  From the friendly goats at Big Thunder Ranch to the horses who carry guests down Main Street, U.S.A., Circle D Ranch is home to Disneyland’s beloved “four-legged cast members.”
  •  Disneyland Dream Suite: This private space above Pirates of the Caribbean was originally planned to be another apartment for Walt Disney, but he passed away before its completion. In 2008, Imagineers used some of Walt’s original ideas and some truly magical surprises of their own to transform it into a fantasy villa like no other.

D23 Members may enter the sweepstakes beginning today through August 23 at D23.com. The tour will take place on Wednesday, October 2. Winners will be able to attend with one (1) guest. For complete rules, details, and eligibility please visit D23.com.

As of right now there is no release date on when this movie makes the jump from the big screen to the small screen but as soon as Disney sends us the official word I will have it here on Chip and Co.

pop

The busy food court at Everything POP Shopping & Dining at Disney’s Pop Century Resort has recently experienced some changes. Chef Cheryl Smith recently debuted a new menu which only kept a few favorites, including soups, the popular meatball sub for lunch, and a few breakfast items.

For breakfast, there’s a new egg-white omelet for health-conscious guests. The “Pop Daily Specials” now offer different omelets throughout the week, including Southwest, Italian and Floridian creations full of fresh veggies. You can also try a new corned beef hash, a hearty breakfast burrito, biscuits and gravy, or a create-your-own yogurt.

Among new sandwiches offered are a black bean burger, turkey sandwich, pork sandwich, salmon burger and a “sloppy joe” topped with onion rings. Plus, you can create your own burritos, nachos, and tacos.

Flatbreads are new, including a margherita with tomatoes and fresh mozzarella, a Mediterranean-inspired flatbread and one with shrimp and goat cheese. There are also more substantial options such as the pepperoni pizza bread or the meaty or Reuben strombolis.

A little more upscale offerings include mussels baked with fennel cream sauce, roast pork shank and shrimp and cheesy grits. There are even nightly specials including rotisserie chicken, beef brisket barbecue, coconut curry shrimp, roasted pork loin, beef stroganoff and roasted vegetable tofu.

You won’t want to miss the new sweet treats such as cotton candy lemonade, a strawberry-banana smoothie, tie-dye cheesecake and a crispy-coated ice cream sundae.

The colorful food court makes it easy to move from station to station for preferences, an easy way to feed a family.

sloppy joe

Chef Cheryl from Everything POP was kind enough to share the “sloppy joe” recipe so you can now try it at home. Enjoy!

Everything POP Shopping & Dining Sloppy Joes with Onion Rings
Serves 4

Onion Rings

4 cups plus 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour, divided
1 1/4 teaspoons coarse salt, divided
1/4 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper, divided
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1 egg, beaten
1/2 cup cornmeal
2 tablespoons Cajun spice
3 softball-sized Spanish onions

Sloppy Joes

1 pound ground chuck
2 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
1 medium Spanish onion, finely diced
1/2 medium green bell pepper, finely diced
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1 fresh jalapeno, deseeded and minced
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 cup canned crushed tomatoes
4 hamburger buns, toasted
4 slices cheddar cheese

For onion rings:

  • Combine 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon salt and 1/4 teaspoon pepper in a medium shallow bowl; set aside.
  • Combine milk, water, beaten egg, 2 tablespoons flour, 1/4 teaspoon salt and 1/8 teaspoon pepper in a separate medium shallow bowl; set aside. Combine remaining 2 cups flour, cornmeal, and Cajun spice in a third medium shallow bowl; set aside.
  • Peel and cut onion into 1/2-inch thick slices. Separate the layers into rings. Working with a few rings at a time, place them into the first bowl, coating completely and shaking off excess flour. Dip into milk mixture, letting excess drip off. Place into third bowl, coating completely, shaking off excess flour. Set coated onion rings onto a large baking sheet. Once all rings are coated, refrigerate for 1 hour.
  • Pour enough oil into a deep pot to reach a depth of 2 inches. Heat to 350°F.
Working in batches, carefully place battered onion rings in hot oil and cook until they float to the surface, about 3 minutes. Transfer onion rings to a plate lined with paper towels to drain off excess oil. Keep warm until ready to serve.

For sloppy joes:

  • Combine ground beef, onion, garlic, bell pepper, and salt in a large pot over medium heat. Cook, stirring frequently to break up the beef, 20 minutes. Spoon off and discard grease from pot.
  • Add ground black pepper, Worcestershire, and crushed tomatoes, stirring to combine.
  • Bring to a simmer over medium-high heat and cook, stirring often, until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Scoop a generous portion of sloppy joe onto each bun; top each with a slice of cheese. Place 3 fried onion rings over cheese, and finish with top half of bun.

Thanks to the Disney Parks Blog for sharing this delicious recipe!

Let’s Go See a Show – Our Favorite Disney World Shows

DSCN0398
DSCN0398

wdw 2012 412

Everybody has their favorite Disney World Show for one reason or another, like the songs and story, sentimental reasons, cuteness factor and so on, whatever the case Disney shows are like no other!  From Broadway to action and from whimsy to fairy-tales Disney shows has something for everyone!

I have to say I enjoy them all and try to do as many as time allows per trip but there are always those few that I just have to get to, no matter what! Fireworks. Parades and Dinner shows aside (that’s another article)these are the shows in the parks that have a fan following of there very own!

Lets take a look at just a few of My Favorites!

Festival of the Lion King This is a favorite of many with floats, singers, dancers, acrobatic monkeys and of course Timon & Pumba! This toe tapping, sing along show will delight everyone, it’s truly is a Broadway-caliber show! Try to get there early for a seat down front but keep in mind, not a bad seat in the house!

It’s Tough to be a Bug– Just the fact that you have to walk down a winding path around the Tree of Life and the show itself is under the Tree of Life, make this show a must do! It’s in 3-D, cute, funny and you may even learn a thing or two about bugs, even with the smells and um “creepy” honorary guest! Smaller guest may get scared, but they can sit on parents laps 😉

Finding Nemo The Musical Another Broadway worthy show! Big animated backgrounds, extremely cool puppets with acrobats and dancers that will leave you singing and reminding yourself to “Just Keep Swimming, Just Keep Swimming” all day long!

Turtle Talk with Crush– Even though my son is a little big to set down front anymore we still enjoy this show. So much fun to hear crush interact the guest and its different every time but always entertaining!

Indiana Jones Epic Stunt Spectacular This one is my sentimental favorite, Indiana Jones movies were my grandmas favorite and this show just makes smile and think of how much she would love it 🙂 Loud explosions, big flames, a rolling boulder and a hero to save the day… what more could a girl ask for 😉

Mickey’s PhilharMagic– Here you get to see Donald Duck fly through scenes of  Disney classic movies all while chasing Mickey’s Sorcerer Hat! Its a fun filled 3-D show with great effects and lots of your favorite Disney characters! We like sitting in the middle towards the back~

Enchanted Tales with BelleThis newer show will be a favorite for years to come and will be on the “cant miss list” of many! Here you go from Maurice’s cottage to Beast’s Library for an amazing storytelling experience with Belle and Lumiere. This show has guest help with the story by playing a role while getting to experience an interactive fairy-tale!

Remember these are just a few of the many shows all over Disney property for guest to enjoy, so take the time and see a few on your next Disney Vacation!

Whistle While You Wait: Surviving Your Disney Countdown!

onemore 2
onemore 2

one more

Waiting is hard!  Think about it, from the time we are born, we wait.  We wait to learn to walk, talk, read, ride a bike, get a license, get a car, get married, have kids…it really is just a waiting game.  But, that doesn’t mean it’s all bad!  Waiting for all of those things I listed above can be good.  Just think about how excited you were the first time you pulled out of the driveway alone or found out that you (or your wife) were pregnant!  All good things come to those who wait, right?

Here is what I’ve learned from my time on this Earth, live in this moment!  Stop dreaming about that lush looking grass on the other side of the hill.  Appreciate where God has you!  And so, with that philosophy, I’ve approached my time waiting for a Disney World trip.  It is hard, but when you look at it, the waiting time is just as important as the time you are in the parks!

Today, we are taking a look at how you can make the anticipation of your Disney trip more than just a waiting game.  We’re looking at little ways that you can whistle while you wait!  Here are my top tips!

Count it down…

I love a good trip countdown!  I love seeing it creep closer and closer!  I love ripping off a number or cutting through a paper chain!  Building up that Disney anticipation is one of the best ways for me to build up  my excitement for the trip.  I’ve got countdowns on my phone, iPad, fridge, and desk!  I am all about that “how many days till Disney” question!  You know you’re addicted to Disney when you can give a countdown (even if it is in the 4 figure range)!  There’s always a countdown because, when it come to Disney people, you are either a) at Disney (World/Land) or b) you are planning your next trip!

Disney it up…

In life, I always try to look for the Disney.  This can be no more true than when you are awaiting that trip!  I do this by loading up on Youtube videos, looking through my Disney pictures, stalking Disney sites, scrolling through Disney hashtags on Instagram, and incorporating Disney into my every day life.  I love a good Disney theme night (think dinner, game, and/or movie theme night)!  Why not play up the anticipation?

 Plan it through…

One sure fire way to whistle while you wait for your Disney trip is to plan like crazy!  From setting up ADRs to creating bucket lists and everything in between, planning for Disney is half the magic!  Creating a plan for your trip will encourage everyone to get involved  and it will stretch out the Disney goodness!  Make sure that planning your trip is a fun and not overly stressful.  Start small with something like a checklist (i.e., things to eat, must rides, sights to see) and watch the fun grow!

The old saying, “good things come to those who wait” is totally applicable to your Disney trip!  I know that it seems like it takes FOREVER for your trip to finally roll around, but with a little know-how, you can learn to whistle while you wait!  Now it’s my favorite time!  It’s time to chat!  Tell me what you do to whistle while you wait for your Disney trip!  Let me know in the comment section below!
