The Great Irish Hooley Ad

The Great Irish Hooley is making a comeback for four days of amazing Irish food, live music and fun at Raglan Road Irish Pub & Restaurant in Downtown Disney August 30-Sept. 2.

A traditional Irish social celebration is known as the “Hooley”

The Great Irish Hooley debuted in 2012 and it was such a big hit that they just had to bring it back this year with top Irish bands, music and dance workshops and Celtic fun. There is a  lineup of celebrated Irish bands will play on the restaurant stage and outside on the pub patio.

There will be Irish Dance Workshops led by renowned Irish dancer and choreographer Ronan McCormack of the original Riverdance cast and join in Irish Music Workshops with distinguished Dublin-born multi-instrumentalist Declan Masterson. Guests also can kick up their heels during structured set dancing called the Ceili (kay-lee). Celtic face painting and authentic food and beverages are on tap, as well

The four-day party kicks off Friday, August 30 at 5 p.m. and continues through midnight Monday, Sept 2. The Great Irish Hooley entertainment lineup includes top acts Scythian, Elevation, Lisa Canny, Creel, The Farrell Brothers, The Raglan Rebels, Johnny & Justin

Ironically I am writing this as I am cooking Corned Beef and Cabbage for Dinner. I also happen to be part Irish. Weird!!!

Disney OG Classics by Vans

Vans Disney Sneakers

Vault by Vans is a timeless collection of Vans styles inspired by modern street fashion, art, music and their 40+ years of heritage. Since fall 2003, they have “reached into the vault” and upgraded classic designs through special collaborations. Fall 2013 completes the first decade of Vault; they commemorate the anniversary by going into their archives to bring the Vault by Vans x Disney OG Classics.

Vault by Vans kicks off the ten-year celebration by reissuing character prints that were originally designed with Disney in the early 1980s. Discontinued for decades, these prints re-surface for Vault’s fourth installment of OG Classics.

Using the same design as their initial size runs, the OG Authentic LX and OG Sk8-Hi LX incorporate long-gone Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck patterns in their aesthetics; the OG Authentic LX presents an additional option featuring Winnie the Pooh. The Vault by Vans x Disney OG Classics arrive this July at select Vault retailers, in toddler and adult sizes.

These are adorable! I have never been a fan of Vans but if there are Disney characters on them, I may have to check them out.

Drink Around the World Showcase – Germany Pavilion

Germany Epcot

Break out your lederhosen! It’s time for a classic must-do for any Drink Around the World Showcase (DAWS) excursion. Germany proves itself to be one of the best spots for anyone participating in DAWS. It’s an especially great choice for those taking on a beer themed drinking challenge. Like the Mexico Pavilion, it’s important to pace yourself here so you don’t end up completely roasted and toasted. Enjoy the sights, sounds, and tastes of Germany. Pretzels and beer? Definitely!

The pavilion has a couple of different kiosks where you can grab a quick drink. The Trinken Cart carries a few types of beer, including Hovels which is not an easy find. If you’re looking for something different and unique to the pavilion, this one would be it. You can score a glass of this for $8.50. If you prefer a lighter beer, go for the Altenmunster Oktoberfest ($8.50). It’s very similar to the Sam Adams Octoberfest that you’ll find in the American Pavilion. For something a little stronger, check out the shots of Jagermeister ($8.00). A few shots of Jagermeister will quickly rack up your DAWS points!

Trinken Cart Germany Epcot

You can also find a beer stand directly in the pavilion. It carries all of the same drink options, except the Hovels. Instead, check out the Radeberger Pilsner ($8.50). Want to commemorate your DAWS experience? Get your beer in a souvenir mug for $12.25. I’ll drink to that! And don’t forget to get a pretzel to snack on. Both stands have soft pretzels for $4.75.

Germany Epcot

Speaking of snacks, Germany has several great choices to grab a quick bite. For something sweet, visit Karamell Kuche where you can purchase a variety of delicious treats made with Werther’s Originals caramels. From caramel corn to caramel apples, your sweet tooth will definitely be satisfied. Prices vary from a steep $9.95 for a milk chocolate caramel apple to snack credit priced ($3.95 or less) chocolate caramel cupcakes and caramel vanilla fudge.

Germany Epcot Caramel Shop

If you’re looking for a savory snack, check out Sommerfest which carries bratwurst and frankfurters with sauerkraut and rolls for a reasonable $6.59-$6.69. You can also indulge in some classic Bavarian desserts like apple strudel with vanilla sauce and black forest cake (both $3.79). And of course, don’t forget to grab another pint of your favorite German beer.

Bratwurst at Sommerfest

When you’re at the Germany Pavilion, you’ll feel like you’re transported to Oktoberfest. And what better way to celebrate than to have a meal at Biergarten a buffet style meal that is set to resemble the sights, sounds and tastes of the festival! This is a terrific spot for families, groups of friends and to meet new friends too. In fact, you’ll be seated at long communal tables with other parties. Grab a pint of beer and make a toast to new friends! This buffet is open for lunch and dinner ($23.42-$39.40) and offers a taste of authentic Germany. You’ll find spaetzle, sauerbraten, all types of wursts, and braised red cabbage–all on both hot and cold buffet stations. Drinks are a must in this restaurant. It is Oktoberfest after all! Order the German beer flight for $10.00. It includes: Radeberger Pilsner, Schofferhofer Weizen, Altenmunster Oktoberfest, and Hovels. And while you’re there, enjoy the traditional music.

It might surprise you, but the Germany Pavilion features many authentic German wines. In fact, you can even sample many of these wines in a wine cellar right next to Biergarten. Tucked away from the beaten path, it’s a wonderfully refreshing place to take a break and enjoy some samples of wine. Guests can order a wine flight featuring white, red, or dessert wines from $9.39-$14.09. Each flight samples three types of wines with 2 oz. pours each. Cast members are on hand to assist you and also give you more information about the wines themselves.

Germany Epcot Wine

The Germany Pavilion is a terrific DAWS stop for guests, beer drinkers or not. With so many choices of food and drink, you’ll think you were transported to Oktoberfest. You can even score some authentic Oktoberfest gear while you’re there. From Official Oktoberfest Beverage Gloves (which you’ll want to wear on the rest of your DAWS excursion) to goofy beer mug shaped glasses, you won’t be able to say “nein”…I mean resist!

Teen Beach Movie DVD Review!

teenbeachmovie

Teen Beach Movie Cover

Teen beach Movie recently premiered to 8.4 million people around the world.

I was lucky enough to get my hands on a copy of the DVD (you can pick up yours tomorrow) and let me tell you the movie is full of color and music and sound! It’s really something I think every small child would just marvel at. One of the first scenes in the movie really stuck out to me and had to be my favorite. In it Mack is telling Brady about her mother and how her mother’s wish for her daughter was that she not walk through life but march triumphantly through it. That right there to me held a lot more emotion than most Disney Musicals we’ve seen in the past.

As we get into the movie I noticed something a little discerning. Throughout the entire movie I felt like the main character Brady never really developed much of a personality. I feel like he was chasing Mack throughout the movie. I felt for him but at the same time he never really became human to me he was just a character. As for Mack I really liked her. She was against the musical from the start and thought the singing and dancing was ridiculous which is rare for a Disney musical character. At certain times I felt like the actress Maia Mitchell’s real accent (which is Australian) was going to surface. It was kind of right there at times and I felt like as amazing as she did at the American accent at times it was easy to tell she wasn’t American. Now it was also her first time doing an American accent and if you look at her on ABC Family’s The Fosters he accent has improved greatly!

As for the 60’s characters I really felt they were from the time period. Especially Lela I felt like she really was a naïve girl who always tried to follow her brother’s rules. Tanner to me was really funny he was a sort of take on those perfect guys in movies who aren’t really the brightest but show they have more to them then just looks. The other smaller characters were great as well I really liked Giggles and Seacat and Che Che as well. Even though there parts were smaller they had huge personalities which made them unforgettable.

The music was good to me. My favorites were “Falling For Ya” and “Like Me” those were the two I felt like were the most 60’s themed and came across as so. I think at times certain parts of the other songs felt a little new age but overall I think the 60’s was captured well in the soundtrack and music. The dance numbers were all really well done my favorite being the big “Surf’s up” number at the end of the movie. The dance numbers were pretty easy to learn as well as I watched which is good for younger kids who want to mimic their favorite characters. The clothes were on point especially when we really got into the 60’s part of the movie. I loved that they stayed true to the 60’s and the theme of it and how different it is from today and how girls specifically are different today than in the 60’s.

The sub plot with the weather machine kind of had me scratching my head at first. I think after a while it started to make sense but at first it felt like a weird thing just being thrown in there and wasn’t really fitting to the movie. As we get to the end of the movie it finally made sense and I realized it was vital to the movies development.

There was a small amount of bonus features with this movie the dance rehearsals for all the numbers. They were really cute to watch I think especially because at certain times you could see where they then added different choreography into the final movie and how much they practiced and really put their all into the movie. My favorite part of the bonus features is in the rehearsals for the first number “Surf Crazy” where in the background you can see one of the stars of the movie Ross Lynch who plays Brady accidentally hit himself in the head with a beach ball! I think I laughed for a good 10 minutes at that one. It’s the small little things like that in the rehearsal footage I think kids will enjoy. Also we see a new dance number for “Coolest Cats in Town” which was not included in the movie. I have to say it saddens me a little because I think that was my favorite dance number I saw. I see where it could have been too much for the movie but I really loved it and am glad it was included somehow even if it’s just the rehearsals.

Also I’d like to say that I loved the little surfboard zipper pull that came with the movie! It reminds me of when I was younger and movies used to come with things like that and it’s a reminder of my younger years and so I found that to be really cute and it’s something little kids will love to keep!

Overall it was a pretty good movie. For a Disney Musical it was surprisingly not repetitive or something I wanted to turn off after watching it once. It had a great message and a great setting.
I give it a solid B-

Being a Meatatarian at Walt Disney World

P1050894
P1050894

turkeyleg

If you scour the internet looking for Special Dietary Requests at Disney World you will find everything from Eating Vegetarian & Vegan, to Gluten Free and people with other Food Allergies. If you do have food allergies I will say our friend Sarah from Gluten and Dairy Free at Walt Disney World has some of the best tips, and she is a writer here on Chip and Co!

But what about Meatatarians?

What is a Meatatarian you might ask? A meatatarian is a person who eats meat virtually to the exclusion of vegetables. The meatatarian often claims to be conserving veggies for those who would actually eat them, and keeps the veggies out of the waste stream, helping the environment, or keeping produce costs down.

Most times you will find these people eating Bacon and watching shows like Epic Meal Time! Bacon Strips & Bacon Strips & Bacon Strips! These carnivores of the theme park always hang out at places where meat is the highlight of the meal.

So to help out Meatatarians out there I want to suggest to you some restaurants where you can get your meat on!

  • Boma – Plenty of spicy Indian/African meat on this buffet.
  • Beaches & Cream – One of the best Hamburger Meats at Disney World. Forget the bun and go for a double with BACON!
  • OHana – Here they bring meat on skewers. Forget the salad, noodles, and other foods in the beginning of the meal and just ask for your server to start bringing you dem tasty meats! Don’t forget to dip those meats in Sauce!
  • Whispering Canyon Cafe – Ribs, Bar-b-que, Tenderloin and more! Here they bring the meat in a all you can eat bowl. Be sure to ask for Ketchup and a a refill on your drink 🙂
  • Trails End – Smoked meats, Fried Chicken, and Ribs. One of the best values at Walt Disney World
  • Raglan Road – Irish Meats. I will be honest I go here for the beer.
  • Biergarten – German Meats. All the sausage you can fit in your mouth!
  • Tokyo Dining – Tons of Ocean Meats here. Nigirizushi has less rice and more meat.
  • 50′s Prime Time Cafe and Tune-In Lounge – Ask for the sampler of meats. Tell them to save the veggies for someone who eats them. Oh and keep those elbows off the table.
  • Yachtsman Steak House – I mean really it has Steak in its name!
  • Sci-Fi Dine-In Theater – Another good Burger Meats stop
  • Liberty Tree Tavern – Thanksgiving meats.
  • Speaking of Thanksgiving who can forget the beloved Disney World Turkey Leg? They can be found in almost every park. One of my favorites is at Toluca Legs Turkey Co!

If there are any I missed please let me know in the comment box below.

Mo on the Go App Review

New Mo Willem app available for iPad and Nook

Do you love Mo Willems, the talented author and illustrator of the children’s books?  Well, there’s been a new app released called Mo on the Go. His whimsical, fun, and adorable illustrations and characters come to life on your mobile device.

One thing that is really cute about this app is the variety of entertainment it brings to your child.  They can dance, draw, create, and play alongside Pigeon-even make the Pigeon drive the bus!  As they play, they can unlock stickers and add them to their creations later.  Also, your child can be creative.  They can take a “scribble”, aka a Squillem, and turn it into their own drawing.  Or, even create their own monster.  Once they are finished with these creations, you can email them to family members!  How fun!  Take pictures, too, and add those fun stickers you earned to them for a super personalized creation.

Want to get active?  Then the Elephant’s and Piggie’s Dance-o-Rama will keep you and your child moving together.  My daughter really enjoys this app, and I enjoy all its fun features!  The Mo on the Go app will be a great addition to your app collection.  Remember, those drives to Disney, or waiting for the flight, or even for your favorite attraction can be long!  It’s always nice to have a fun app for your child to use!

Beware of Ticket Scams

ticket 1
ticket 1

Magic Your Way Ticket

There is a new theme park ticket scam, where park employees and cast members are being targeted.

An elaborate operation that preys on unsuspecting employees to buy discounted tickets. It’s a plan that recently cost two Disney cast members their jobs, but it could have more consequences for guests buying tickets through unreliable sources.

Now, it seems, some of those running  ticket scams are targeting Disney employees to pick up tickets at discounted prices.

In 2011, the state banned the resale of partially used multi day park passes, but not unused single-day passes.
The move didn’t eliminate the problem; it only changed the focus, with scammers now going after unsuspecting employees.

Employee tickets are not supposed to be resold, visitors should only buy from licensed dealers to avoid being left at the gate with no way in and no way to get their cash back.

While employees are not allowed to resell Disney tickets, private citizens can, but only unused passes.

Anyone caught dealing in partially used passes faces a second-degree misdemeanor.

I know cheaper tickets are very enticing, but you know what they say if it’s too good to be true it probably is! Only buy your tickets from Disney directly or a reputable ticket agent. Google is your friend.

Thank you Disney Dining for the info.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust
