No Closing Date Announced for Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster as Muppets Prepare To Take the Spotlight

Disney fans are bracing for some big changes at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but the fate of one iconic attraction remains up in the air. While Disney has confirmed that the Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster will be re-themed into a Muppets-inspired coaster, no closing date has been announced for the high-speed ride starring Aerosmith. With the other impacted attractions already slated for closure to make way for Monstropolis and new Muppets-themed offerings, fans are left speculating about when they’ll take their last ride in a super stretch limo.

Plans for the transformation of the current Muppets area are already underway, with Mama Melrose’s Ristorante Italiano set to serve its final plate of pasta on May 10, and MuppetVision 3D and PizzeRizzo closing their doors on June 7. These closures are paving the way for a major overhaul that will introduce a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land alongside exciting updates to the Muppets’ presence in the park. While this is thrilling news for fans of both franchises, it leaves Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster enthusiasts holding their breath for an official timeline.

Historically, Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster undergoes routine refurbishments around January each year, leading many to speculate that the ride could close in early 2026 for its transformation. However, without an official announcement, the exact timing remains a mystery. The absence of a closing date feels particularly uncertain when compared to Disney’s recent update that Dinosaur at Disney’s Animal Kingdom will remain open through 2025 before it undergoes its own transformation.

As for what’s coming, the Muppets re-theme to Rock N Roller Coaster promises to be a show-stopper, taking guests on a zany and musical journey through a brand-new storyline. Over in the current Muppets land, the expansion will include a thrilling suspended coaster recreating the heart-pounding door vault scene from Monsters, Inc., along with themed dining, shopping, and a unique theater experience. While Disney hasn’t provided an opening date for Monstropolis, current speculation suggests the new land will debut in 2027.

Disneyland has introduced a new popcorn bucket that’s sure to delight guests! Poppi is available at the new Disney Wonderful World of Sweets in Downtown Disney.

New Poppi Popcorn Bucket Debuts at the Disneyland Resort

Disney Wonderful World of Sweets opened earlier this week, featuring freshly made Werther’s Original Caramel popcorn and sweet new characters adorning the décor around the location: Poppi the popcorn bucket and cake pops named Jimmi, Fluffi, Bonni and Lolli.

Poppi the popcorn bucket appears to be a piece of popcorn wearing a blue Mickey ear hat. The ears on the hat have swirls on them. Poppi has a smile on her face with pink cheeks.

The bucket comes with a carrying strap attached. It’s background is white and it features multiple Disney goodies including Poppi herself. Poppi costs $29.99 plus tax and comes with caramel corn. The buckets are limited to 2 per guest and no discounts apply.

When to Ride Again: Disneyland Railroad & Monorail Reopening

Get ready to circle the park! Disneyland Resort has revealed that both the Disneyland Railroad and the Monorail will reopen soon. This exciting news means guests can once again experience the thrill of a Monorail ride above the park or enjoy a scenic journey around Disneyland on the historic Railroad.

Guests at Disneyland Resort will have the opportunity to once again enjoy two classic transportation attractions starting on March 7, 2025. Both the Disneyland Railroad and the Monorail have been closed since earlier this month for scheduled refurbishments. The Disneyland Railroad’s closure is part of a larger project that includes four three-month refurbishments, each focusing on a different section of track.

The iconic Disneyland Monorail is currently undergoing routine maintenance to ensure a smooth and safe ride for years to come. This temporary closure allows for essential inspections and upkeep, ensuring the continued operation of this beloved mode of transportation.

Interestingly, last year marked a significant milestone for Monorail enthusiasts. After a long hiatus, Disney once again began allowing guests to ride in the back of the Monorail. This exciting change offered a fresh perspective on the classic journey, providing riders with unique views and a renewed sense of adventure.

El Capitan Theatre Hosting Community Screenings of Moana 2 & Mufasa

The El Capitan Theatre, a historic Hollywood landmark owned by The Walt Disney Company, is being utilized to support relief and recovery efforts in response to the recent devastating fires that ravaged Los Angeles.

“When you step into a movie, you’re transported to another world,” James Wood, the General Manager of The El Capitan, said.

This week, The El Capitan Theatre offered free screenings of ‘Moana 2’ and ‘Mufasa: The Lion King’ to provide a welcome escape and bring joy to children and families impacted by the recent wildfires in the LA community.

Like many others across The Walt Disney Company, as fires broke out around the greater Los Angeles region, the team at The El Capitan asked themselves, “What can we do during this time?” Wood said.

“Well, the best thing we do is entertain,” he said.

As it happened, the Disney Corporate Social Responsibility team also had the idea to host complimentary screenings, and within 48 hours, those screenings went from idea to reality.

“We have opened our doors to the entire community,” Wood said. “We want people to have a sense of normalcy in a very challenging time.”

To get the word out, Disney extended invitations to local school districts and nonprofits supporting kids and families who have been directly impacted by the fires, including several Boys & Girls Clubs in the LA area. KABC — a Disney owned television station — also helped to spread news of the screenings.

To enhance the experience for these special guests, Disney and The El Capitan Theatre provided complimentary refreshments, including drinks, popcorn, and collectible film posters. Ghirardelli Chocolate shop, located adjacent to the El Capitan, further enhanced the experience by offering complimentary chocolate bars. Families enjoyed taking photos with backdrops featuring iconic Disney films, often assisted by Disney VoluntEARS, employees who dedicate their time to supporting their local communities through a dedicated volunteer program.

“Disney VoluntEARS greet all of the families as they come in, making sure that their experience is top notch, and really to that Disney standard,” Sarah Whitney, Senior Manager, CSR at Disney Entertainment, said.

The goal has been “to provide new memories for these families,” Whitney noted. “We hope that this gives families the opportunity to have that safe space and be able to come back rejuvenated.” Wood has been able to peek into the theatre during screenings and see how the guests are reacting. “It seems like a joyous, normal moviegoing experience, which is what we wanted it to be,” he said.

The history of Disney is inextricably linked to the LA area and the teams across the company have been working tirelessly to help our hometown community bounce back from these devastating fires.

The El Capitan is “Disney’s home on Hollywood Boulevard,” Wood explained.

Wood, who has worked at the theatre in various roles since 2001, added that having these screenings in the El Capitan Theatre, “a place that’s close to 100 years old, really showcases that we are going to keep going, that Los Angeles is a place that is strong, that will continue and will always continue.”

Disney is also committing $15 million for initial and immediate response and rebuilding efforts; Disney Entertainment Television opening its wardrobe warehouse in North Hollywood to employees who lost their homes; assembling hundreds of comfort kits for kids impacted by the fires; hosting various donation drives across the company; ABC News Group expanding its SoCal Strong coverage across platforms; and much more.
