Come delight in the spring blooms as Disney gardeners paint the landscape all the colors of the rainbow while Epcot culinary experts tempt your palate with marketplace tastes during the 21st Epcot International Flower & Garden Festival March 5 – May 18, 2014, at Walt Disney World Resort.

One of my favorite aspects of this festival is the incredible photography opportunities. Whether you are needing a new family portrait, engagement announcements or just want some fabulous floral prints this festival is sure to bring to life your photos! Enjoy fabulous photo opportunities with larger-than-life Goofy, Donald Duck and Daisy Duck topiary splendor. You will be swept away with the whimsical topiaries of Mickey Mouse and dozens of other Disney characters that is sure to amaze all in attendance.   More than 100 larger-than-life topiaries, 220 floating mini-gardens, dozens of beautiful flower towers and sweeping beds of multi-colored blooms will add floral splendor to the park landscape.

This beautiful spring soiree last for 75 days. Continuing this year guests will be able to taste sweets and savories from about a dozen marketplaces stationed around the World Showcase Lagoon.  As you sample from gustatory delights, you can wander amongst the themed gardens and children’s play areas created by Disney gardeners. Daily interactive gardening seminars will be available at the Festival Center to bring to life many outdoor do-it-yourself inspirations. In addition to the do-it-yourself seminars there will be many popular HGTV celebrities that will headline weekend seminars about home, garden and design ideas.

The Disney-Pixar “Cars” garden and playground is back by popular demand and is sure to bring everyone’s favorite movie characters to life.  Make sure to visit Tinker Bell’s Butterfly House which will be all aflutter with hundreds of the winged beauties along with intricate fairy topiaries including Tinker Bell, Fawn and Terrence. And don’t forget to celebrate spring with a butterfly hunt adventure in the Epcot front entrance garden.

While at opening weekend enjoy the sounds of the Flower Power Concert Series at America Gardens Theatre which will include fan favorites such as,  The Guess Who (“American Woman”) March 7-9 as well as other pop acts that include Chubby Checker & the Wildcats, The Village People, Paul Revere & The Raiders and Herman’s Hermits starring Peter Noone (Entertainment is subject to change).

Epcot World Showcase Best Kept Secrets – Norway

Norway 1
Norway 1

Epcot Norway Pavilion

After spending some time in China enjoying Reflections of China, the Nine Dragons acrobats or meeting Mulan and Mushu we continue through The World Showcase by stopping in Norway next. It was the latest addition to the World Showcase opening in 1988.

  • The 58,000 square foot pavilion is designed to look like a Norwegian village with a detailed Stave church and 4 styles of Norwegian architecture.
  • The main table-service restaurant, Restaurant Akershus, which is home to “Princess Storybook Dining”, resembles its namesake in Oslo.
  • The interconnected shops that make up much of the pavilion are decorated with large wooden trolls, filled with Norse artifacts, toys, books and more.
  • The courtyard contains the entrance to Maelstrom, a boat ride into Norway’s past and present and is the only fast pass attraction in The World Showcase.
  • There used to be a full scale Viking ship, inspired by the famous Oseberg ship. It was children’s play area at one time, but was removed in December of 2008.
  • The grand opening was dedicated by Harald V of Norway (then Crown Prince) in a live broadcasted ceremony to Norway.
  • The original idea was to create a “Nordic Pavilion” and would combine elements from various countries into one exhibit. After consulting 3 countries, Norway was selected exclusively after investors raised $30 million for a national pavilion. Disney contributed the other 1/3 of the construction cost. The investors sold their shares to Disney in 1992, but the Norwegian government continued paying $200, 000 each year to help boost tourism. That stopped in 2002 against the advice of the American Embassy’
  • Nearly as many people visit Epcot as live in Norway.
  • Yes, that is real grass growing on the roof! Horticulture CMs have to get on the roof with clippers to keep it trimmed, since they can’t get a real goat to stay up there like they do in the real Norway.
  • During Reflections of Earth Norway is not illuminated like all the other countries, except one. As I mentioned before during our journey through Morocco, due to religious reason they are prohibited from having any kind of lighting attached to their religious landmark. While the Stave church is Norway’s religious landmark, and nothing prevents them from illuminating it, to keep things symmetrical no lighting is attached to the steeple since it sits directly across the lagoon from Morocco.

Did you ride the Maelstrom? Pose next to the giant troll or even take a troll home with you?

In case you missed them, here is the rest of the Best Kept Secrets series –

Fans of the former ABC Family series, “The Nine Lives of Chloe King,” will finally know how the series ends when the network and Alloy Entertainment makes the script for “The Nine Lives of Chloe King: Salvation,” the two-hour movie of the week, available online. The series conclusion will be posted on Alloy’s Entertainment’s official site (http://alloyentertainment.com/) on Friday, September 13 at 9:13AM PT.

“Although we ultimately decided not to continue with the series, we wanted to make the Chloe King movie script available to her amazing fans to provide them the closure they’ve been clamoring for,” said Kate Juergens, Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development and Chief Creative Officer, ABC Family.

When viewers last saw Chloe, a descendant of the ancient Mai race, she had lost one of her nine lives courtesy of the assassin Simone. Brian appeared to have succumbed to Chloe’s fatal kiss, while Jasmine and her mom, Valentina, the leader of the local Mai pride, were attacked by the unpredictably violent Zane and left to die. The script will answer fans’ lingering questions about The Order, Whitley Rezza’s true motivations, Alek’s past and whether Meredith will finally learn about her daughter’s secret identity. Also, Chloe will choose between Brian and Alek.

Ok so if you’re like me you are freaking out because you loved this show and the chance to read how it would have ended is amazing! You go ABC Family! Seriously these are question i have had forever and although i wish they had made the movie I’m so glad we can read the ending.  This was one of my favorites from ABC Family and i was devastated when it was cancelled but now I’m a lot happier… like a lot happier. I have only gotten maybe 10 pages into the script and I’m already biting my fingernails and can’t put it down so i can’t wait to see how it ends!

Check it out and let me know what you think! Did it end the way you wanted?

A “Marvel”-ous time is underway onboard the newly re-imagined Disney Magic, starting Oct. 20. For the first time onboard a Disney Cruise ship, Captain America will be greeting guests and young recruits, bringing Marvel’s Avengers Academy alive, and delighting kids of all ages.

The Oceaneer Club onboard the Disney Magic now plays host to Marvel’s Avengers Academy, where young crime-fighters are transported to a secret S.H.I.E.L.D. base (Strategic Homeland Intervention, Enforcement and Logistics Division) —a technologically advanced remote command post used by The Avengers for special missions and operations training.

Throughout the base, displays featuring some of the equipment that helps to make The Avengers earth’s mightiest heroes—Iron Man’s high-tech suit of armor, Captain America’s shield and Thor’s hammer—inspire super hero “recruits” through their academy missions. Marvel’s Avengers Academy is a multi-day, immersive entertainment experience for children, where they interact with Marvel characters and unleash their inner super heroes.

Marvel’s Avengers Academy centers on high-tech fun, with computer stations and a giant video wall to assist in their multi-day “training” and super hero missions. Special lighting and audio effects enhance the experience.

Seven Dwarfs Mine Train Ready to Roll in Spring 2014

It “crowns” New Fantasyland – the largest expansion in Magic Kingdom history – and there’s nothing “sleepy” about it. When it opens in spring 2014, the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, inspired by the classic Disney film “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” will take guests on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine” and through the rolling countryside surrounding the mine. A stone bridge over a creek leads guests to the entrance of the attraction. Just ahead: the rustic cottage of the Dwarfs. The family-style coaster will feature a first-of-its-kind train of ride vehicles mounted in cradle-like pivots that allow the cars to swing back and forth during the ride. The journey will be accompanied by music from the film and there’s a cast of animated figures of Snow White, the Seven Dwarfs and a collection of playful forest critters. An interactive queue will feature activities themed to mining.

Disney’s “Into the Woods” started production last week, featuring an award-winning production team and all-star  cast. Rob Marshall, the talented filmmaker behind the Academy Award winning musical “Chicago” and Disney’s “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” helms the film, which is based on the Tony winning original musical by James Lapine, who also penned the screenplay, and legendary composer Stephen Sondheim, who provides the music and lyrics including an all-new song for the adaptation. “Into the Woods” is produced by Marshall, John DeLuca, “Wicked” producer Marc Platt and Callum McDougall. Shooting in studio and on location throughout England, the film is set for a December 25, 2014, holiday release.

“Into the Woods” is a modern twist on the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters’ wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel—all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.

The all-star ensemble cast includes:

  • Meryl Streep (“The Iron Lady,” “The Devil Wears Prada,” “August: Osage County”) portrays the Witch who wishes to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored.
  •  Emily Blunt (“Looper,” “The Young Victoria,” “The Devil Wears Prada”) is the Baker’s Wife, a childless woman who longs to be a mother.
  • James Corden (Broadway’s “One Man, Two Guvnors,” “The Three Musketeers,” “Gavin & Stacey”) plays the role of the Baker, a hard-working man who desperately wants to start a family.
  •  Anna Kendrick (“Pitch Perfect,” “Up in the Air”) fills the shoes of Cinderella, who finds herself on a journey of self-discovery.
  •  Chris Pine (“Star Trek Into Darkness,” “Jack Ryan”) portrays Cinderella’s Prince, charming and impossibly handsome, who is on an endless quest to find his bride.
  • Johnny Depp (“Pirates of the Caribbean” films, “The Lone Ranger,” “Sweeney Todd”) steps in as the Wolf, who sets his sights on Little Red Riding Hood.
  •  Lilla Crawford (Broadway’s “Annie”) makes her feature-film debut as Little Red Riding Hood, a smart and spunky girl who journeys into the woods, finding unexpected adventures along the way.
  •  Daniel Huttlestone (“Les Misérables”) lands the role of Jack, an absentminded and adventurous boy who trades his treasured cow for five magic beans.
  • Tracey Ullman joins the cast as Jack’s Mother, a poor and exasperated mom who is overwhelmed, yet fiercely protective of her son.
  • Christine Baranski (“Mamma Mia!,” “Chicago” “The Good Wife”) takes on the infamous Stepmother who wishes for riches and grandeur; she’ll do anything to marry off one of her daughters to a prince.
  •  MacKenzie Mauzy (“Brother’s Keeper,” Broadway’s “Next to Normal”) plays Rapunzel, a sheltered young woman who experiences the world beyond her tower for the first time.
  • Billy Magnussen (Broadway’s “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike,” “Boardwalk Empire,” “The East”) is the dashing and eager Prince who courts Rapunzel.

The big-screen adaptation features songs from the stage musical, including “Children Will Listen,” “Giants in the Sky,” “On the Steps of the Palace,” “No One Is Alone” and “Agony,” among others. Additionally, Sondheim has penned an all-new song for the story’s theatrical debut.
