Top 10 Disney Dining Snack Credit Buys at Disney World

Epcot Snacks KaramelCase

There are so many different snack plan options for you if you’re on the Disney Dining Plan. Disney definitely provides you with some very tasty options and large portions. There are snacks that you want to avoid using your credits on though since they really don’t maximize your credit value (i.e. drinks or water, ice cream bars, fruit, or chips), so it’s good to budget for those items out of pocket if you truly want to make the most of your credits.

Here are my Top 10 Disney Dining Snack Credit Buys at Walt Disney World.

funnelcake2

Funnel Cake This is a classic treat that we enjoy eating just before the parade or fireworks in Magic Kingdom. They can be found in Sleepy Hollow and surprisingly are still a snack credit even though they’re almost $6! Skip the ones at the American Pavilion in EPCOT though, they’re much more expensive and are the same ones you can get from Magic Kingdom.

dino

Ice Cream Sandwich or Sundae – I discovered ice cream sandwiches earlier this year after I realized it was the same price as a cup of ice cream, yet you get the same amount of ice cream AND two huge cookies, which were warm even at 9PM. My biggest mistake was getting the sandwich with cookies & cream ice cream – I like sweets, but it was a bit too sweet even for me, so be warned that it’s not a good idea to mix cookies with cookies. If you don’t want cookies, then get an ice cream sundae. They always look great as well, but seem to be a bit messy once they add the hot fudge. I always make it a point to grab a cold treat from Hollywood Scoops in Hollywood Studios before walking in to see Fantasmic, but you can also get the sandwiches in other parks.

cupcakes

Cupcakes – If you’ve never had a Disney cupcake, then you are missing out on one of the best snack credit options out there. The cupcakes are HUGE and it takes two of us to eat one, which is probably why it ends up being our breakfast when we visit Hollywood Studios. We personally love the Peanut Butter Cupcake from Starring Rolls Café in Hollywood Studios and the Oreo Cupcake from Boardwalk Bakery.

mickey

Mickey Rice Crispy Treats – While I’m not usually the biggest fan of rice crispy treats, I have to admit that the ones at Disney are just a bit more special. I particularly like that you can create your own special treat if you visit Goofy’s Candy Co. in Downtown Disney. They’re big portions and can definitely be shared.

roll

Cinnamon Roll – While nothing will ever compare to the humongous cinnamon rolls you once could get at the Main Street Bakery in Magic Kingdom, you can find some that are similar at Gaston’s Tavern. I can’t vouch for how good they are in comparison to the ones you once could get, but they still are generous in size and make a great snack or breakfast item.

Dolewhipfloat

Dole Whip / Dole Whip Float This is a classic and I’m sure you’ve heard about the infamous Dole Whip that you can find at Magic Kingdom and in the Polynesian Resort. I’m not the biggest fan of fruit flavored ice cream/frozen yogurt, this stuff is pretty good and the pineapple juice they add to the floats really help you cool down on a warm day.

zebra-coffee-domes

Zebra Domes We kept hearing so much about these things called Zebra Domes. We had no clue what they were, just what they looked like, so on our last trip we made our way over to Animal Kingdom Lodge just to try this highly talked about dessert. Man, these things were good. You receive 5 or 6 in a pack, but they go very quick if you’re sharing since they’re the size of cake pops. They can be found at Mara if you want to give them a try without eating at Boma.

ccc

Carrot Cake Cookie – This is another one of those that I’ve yet to try, but they always look so good and tempting in the dessert case and most people swear that it’s the best carrot cake treat they’ve had. I think I’ve shied away from trying them so far because I don’t really like carrot cake or cream cheese filling, but it’s definitely on my list of sweet treats to try in our next trip. And they’re a generous size, so it’s probably a suitable treat to share. You can find them in Hollywood Studios at the Writer’s Shop or the Scary Apothecary.

Anything from Les Halles Boulangerie & Patisserie You really can’t go wrong with any of the desserts here in the France Pavilion of EPCOT. There are so many that I have a hard time picking just one, but if I had to say what my favorite one is, then it would be the Chocolate Mousse. It’s very rich and disappears quickly, but it’s still one of my favorites and a must-have every trip.

kk

Anything from Karamell-Küche This is another one of those ‘I can’t pick just one item’ places for snacks and this shop can be found in the Germany Pavilion of EPCOT and as you can tell by the top picture, there are A LOT of choices. The caramel here in so decadent – my mouth is watering just thinking about it. We’ve tried nearly everything they have and love most of it. I wasn’t too thrilled with the caramel filled cookies, but maybe that’s because it wasn’t fresh. And while the caramel apples aren’t a snack credit, they are definitely something you do not want to miss!

The great thing is that Disney is always adding new snacks and desserts to their repertoire, so you can really find something to satisfy any craving. Did I miss anything that should make the Top 10 snack credit list?

Up, Up and Away – Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Super Adventure

MMCH Super Adventure DVD art

In Mickey Mouse Clubhouse – Super Adventure Super Mickey and his friends fly into stores on DVD this December 3rd and we got a chance to preview the movie and my kids thoroughly enjoyed it. We are huge Mickey Mouse Clubhouse fans and with my 3 year old just getting into super heroes this was a match made in heaven.

Here is a little more info about the DVD in case you missed the press release.

Zoom! Wow! It’s Super Mickey, Wonder Minnie, Super-Power Pup, Super Goof, Dynamo Duck and Upsy-Daisy to the rescue! In an exciting adventure straight out of a comic book, Power-Pants Pete swoops down and starts shrinking everything insight down to teeny-tiny size! To save the day, Professor Von Drake transforms the Clubhouse Gang into super heroes with incredible powers. But Pete’s merely a sidekick; a wily villain named Megamort is the true mastermind behind theshrinky-dinky caper. Can our heroes outsmart the bad guys? Only by working together, with help from YOU… and the right Mouseketools! Packed with action, surprises and nearly two hours of fun – including three additional episodes – this Super Adventure celebrates the unstoppable power of teamwork and friendship.

When we sat down to watch this I knew my son was going to love it, I just didn’t know how much. The familiar Mickey Mouse Clubhouse characters with the new Superhero twist kept him enthralled the first time, and acting it out with them the second time. It’s very well done and has lots of cute features, as well as the education that this show is known for.

It’s gets a definite 2 thumbs way up in our house and I highly suggest you fly right out and get a copy for your little Disney Superhero.

Meeting the Frozen Princesses at Disneyland

frozen

A recent trip to Disneyland with my grand daughters included meeting the Frozen Princesses, Elsa and Anna.

To honor the Frozen princesses, Olaf has transformed the small greeting room off the side of the Village Haus Restaurant, next door to Pinocchio’s Daring Adventures into a comfy FROZEN spot.  A sign hanging from the building announces the location as the “Frozen Royal Reception”, while beautiful snow covers the surrounding rooftops.   And right there, above the door leading into the reception room is non other than Olaf himself.  After a quick lunch and even quicker vote, we decided it was worth the hour long wait and immediately secured our spot in line.

During our wait, as is our routine, we made friends with several other parents and kids.  My granddaughters became the official #FROZEN movie experts.  They shared their adventures about attending a special viewing at The Walt Disney Studios in Burbank. The youngest informed everyone that she and her sister were just like the princesses and even had the dresses to prove it.  There was the usual debate about the favorite characters – Elsa and Olaf are tied for first with Anna a close second.   The bits and pieces of shared movie scenes turned into a full fledged movie review.  I made the comment about how great it would be to be able to ask the princesses a few questions.  The parents just as excited as their kids, asked non stop questions about FROZEN.   We even sang a few lines of some of the songs including our favorite “Let it Go”. My oldest granddaughter informed everyone that the special effects were “amazing” and not to worry because the movie had a happy ending.   The younger granddaughter eager to contribute told a parent to make sure to visit the Disney store and buy her daughter an Olaf stuffed animal before seeing the movie.   The Walt Disney Company would have been pleased to see these two little Disney ambassadors promoting the film and all the related FROZEN accessories available.

As we neared the front of the line, we became aware of Olaf’s antics on the roof top.   Olaf is the official greeter and will come alive and appear to engage guests in conversation. Whether complimenting someone on their attire, or asking to borrow their mickey crocs and realizing he has no feet to put them on (my oldest granddaughter’s favorite comment),  Olaf kept us busy and happily anticipating his next words.  The laughter and delight of the parents and kids over Olaf’s comments, made the hour wait fly by

Finally it was our turn to meet the princesses.Nikon Camera ready and girls holding hands we made our way inside to find the beautiful Elsa standing before us.   A bit star struck and speechless, the girls went up and gave Elsa a huge hug.   The oldest granddaughter shyly asked if she could ask a few questions.  Elsa knelt down and the interview began.

Granddaughter:  “Elsa, is it very hard to have such strong magical powers?”

Elsa; “It is a bit hard because as you see in the movie sometimes, my powers get me in trouble.”

Granddaughter:  “Do you ever get mad at your sister?”  “Mine sometimes bothers me.”

Elsa was saved from having to respond with Anna’s arrival as the girls rushed over to hug and greet Anna.  After a few more pictures, it was time to move on.  On our way out the door, my granddaughter asked one last question.  “Anna, did it hurt when Elsa froze your heart?”   Anna responded with the perfect Disney princess answer.   “A little bit, but Elsa’s love made me better.”

As we walked away, I thought about Anna’s answer and found myself saying Walt Disney realized it a long time ago – Love makes everything better.

Don’t miss your chance to see #FROZEN this holiday weekend. Comment below or on our Facebook page once you have seen FROZEN and share your favorite character and scene.

Arabian Nights Dinner Show is Closing

Arabian nights Dinner Show

Arabian Nights Dinner show

The Arabian Nights dinner show has been open for 25 years and has had shows pretty much everyday. Sadly they announced they will close permanently on Jan. 1, 2014.

Since they opened on Feb. 29, 1988 they performed more than 10,000 shows for more than 10 million guests.

“It has been an honor sharing my passion for the beauty and magic of horses with people from all walks of life over the last 25 years,” said Owner Mark Miller. “Unfortunately, we have reached a point where the marketplace demands a cheaper product than we can provide.“Just this last August, we once again won the 2013 Orlando Sentinel Award as Best Dinner Show, proving that our quality is still unmatched. I always believed there would be a place for a first class secondary attraction in this market. I was mistaken.“Our mission now is to present the best possible product for the rest of the year so that the people who have loved us over the years will be able to come back and experience the magic of our show one last time. Then we will be concentrating on how to assist our incredible staff in handling this transition,” Miller added.

The Arabian Nights Christmas show will run from Dec. 1 to 31. These final shows will be offered at half-price for Central  Florida Residents.

The Holidays are the best at Disney Parks, we are excited to share this week’s “Limited Time Magic” spotlight on a special Toys for Tots promotion at Disney World Resort and holiday headwear at Disney Parks.

From December 2-8, 2013, you can take part in a limited-time opportunity to help support Toys for Tots by donating a Duffy the Disney Bear. When you visit Once Upon a Toy or World of Disney Store at the Downtown Disney Marketplace, Disney will donate a 17-inch Duffy the Disney Bear plush to Toys for Tots for $5.00*. This holiday season, Disney is joining in the spirit of giving and will also donate $200,000 to Toys for Tots.

To get into the festive spirit, Disney Theme Park Merchandise is again offering a selection of holiday headwear. There are a few returning favorites including the Disney ear hat inspired by Santa Claus. New this year, the headwear team added a Minnie Mouse ear hat covered in sequins.

These special spotlight ears and the rest of the holiday ear hat collection can be found at select locations throughout Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts. You can also find select hats on the Disney Parks online store.

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar will get you in the Holiday Spirit at the Disneyland Hotel

What do you get when you cross a thirsty zebra with a bottle of rum? Yule find out when you sip the Red-Nosed Zebra at Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar at the Disneyland Hotel – a chilly concoction of aged rum, strawberry puree, lemon and lime juices.

If the holidays are making you go ape, try the Gorilla Nog with honey-flavored whiskey, Sam’s Gorilla Grog, ginger and orange liqueurs.

For a sweet sip, try the Mele Kaliki-Mocha – “the jungle java that Sam sends to you from the land where lions prey.” The combo of iced coffee, cream of coconut and coffee liqueur is topped with whipped cream to make it snowy white.

The three specialty drinks are available only until January 5, 2014. The Red-Nosed Zebra is $9.50, Gorilla Nog $10.75 and Mele Kaliki-Mocha is $10.75.
