Maleficent

We have a new sneak peek of Disney’s Maleficent that is scheduled to come out this May.

The official synopsis:

A beautiful, pure-hearted young woman, Maleficent has an idyllic life growing up in a peaceable forest kingdom, until one day when an invading army threatens the harmony of the land. Maleficent rises to be the land’s fiercest protector, but she ultimately suffers a ruthless betrayal — an act that begins to turn her pure heart to stone. Bent on revenge, Maleficent faces an epic battle with the invading king’s successor and, as a result, places a curse upon his newborn infant Aurora. As the child grows, Maleficent realizes that Aurora holds the key to peace in the kingdom — and perhaps to Maleficent’s true happiness as well.

‘Maleficent’ also stars Juno Temple, Sam Riley, and Imelda Staunton, and hits theaters on May 30th, 2014.

Dear Travel Industry Colleagues,

The decision to retire is bittersweet. It comes with great anticipation for what lies ahead, but also with quite a bit of nostalgia for what we leave behind. So, it’s with that mix of emotions that I announce my retirement this week after working for The Walt Disney Company for 25 years.

The word “grateful” doesn’t begin to cover how fortunate I feel to have been part of this company, and to have shared this time with all of you. You represent the industry’s most exceptional talent, and it has been a true pleasure working alongside you. You are in good hands with the Disney team, and I look toward a great future for our industry, and for Disney Destinations.

I am excited about the future, I am grateful for the past, and I am humbled by the people I met along the way – including all of you.

10 Tips and Tricks for Your Next Large Group Gathering at Walt Disney World

Animation Magic on the Disney Fantasy

Dance Teams, Cheer Squads, Boy and Girl Scout Troops, business conferences….all bring large groups to Walt Disney World.  You may have seen my recent article about actually setting up group reservations with the Walt Disney Travel Company.  You’ve done that, so now what is next?  It’s time to start planning the logistics of your Disney Parks trip so everyone has the most enjoyable time possible.  But how do you do that, when you have approximately 40 different people with different tastes, needs, and levels of tolerance?

Today I’m going to share with you some Tips and Tricks for Your Next Large Group Gathering at Walt Disney World.

1.  Have your resort reservations linked.  Since Disney resorts use the same Reservation Office, this is so easy!  Linking your reservations allows Disney to know that you are all traveling together and that you want your rooms as close to each other as possible.

2.  Plan a few sit down meals together.  Perhaps not everyone in your group is on the Disney Dining Plan.  You can still coordinate your dining reservations for those of you who want to eat together.  Break your larger group down into smaller ones to get close dining times.  At the majority of restaurants, your group will be broken down into smaller parties.  There are a few dinner shows and table service restaurants who can put tables together to accommodate everyone.  This gives you a chance to reconnect after a day in the park.  You will want to make these reservations as close to your 180 day mark as possible, and over the phone with Disney Dining.  The CastMember can help you break your group down, and assure that everyone is accounted for, as well as getting you the most convenient time possible.

3.  Plan some time apart from each other.  If you are traveling with 40 of your closest family members, someone is bound to feel a little stressed.  Split up in the parks during the day, and meet back together for a meal.  Or, consider a date night amongst the adults, and take turns watching each other’s kids.  Most importantly, allow for some down time a the pool or Downtown Disney to be sure everyone is relaxing and having a great time.

4.  Appoint a “team leader” for various aspects of your group. Someone to seek out resort options from a travel agent or Disney group sales.  Another person to suggest restaurants and check the crowd calendars to plan your park days.  Consider another member of your party to plan out of park activities, and yet another to look for airfare or make road trip plans.

5.  Put together some fun matching t shirts for everyone.  This could be the same color with “The Hurst Family Reunion-2104” on it, tie-dyed shirts, or coordinated by each family.  It’ll add some great fun to your photos, and even get you some extra attention from Disney CastMembers.

6.  Set up a schedule.  Schedule, on vacation?   Yes, with a large group it’s a must.  It doesn’t have to be a strict schedule, though.  Perhaps you all agree to visit EPCOT in the morning, but then part ways in the afternoon.  Also, remind everyone to arrive at your dining reservations 15 minutes prior to check in.

7.  Coordinate a daily meet up time and location.  It’s important to meet up during the day so you can catch up with everyone and make sure things are going well.  It’s also the perfect time for some group photos!  Choose an easy to find icon-like the Mickey and Walt Statue at Magic Kingdom.

8.  Arrive earlier than normal for shows and dining reservations.  Slipping into the Festival of the Lion King or Illunimations with 10 minutes to spare in hopes of finding 3 or 4 seats together is doable.  For 40 seats or so, not so much.  Plan on arriving at the show about 45 minutes to an hour beforehand.  Gather everyone in your group together, or at least as many as possible, and get in line TOGETHER.  This will assure you seats together, and won’t annoy those around you who have also been waiting when others in your party who are late start to cut the line to catch up.

9.  Everything will take longer.  My family can shower, dress, and eat breakfast in about an hour and then it’s off to the parks.  Traveling with a large group, that’s not going to happen.  Trying to make rope drop for Magic Kingdom at 9:00?  Then be sure to tell everyone in your party to meet at the bus stop at 7:30 AM to catch the first bus out to the parks.  This is a very important consideration with dining as well. If you are dining with a large party, it’s going to take a long time.  Don’t schedule any group activities, or plan on catching any shows, until at least 3 hours after your dining reservation.  It’s better to have 30 minutes to spend before a show, than it is to miss it because you didn’t account for your lunch to take that long.

10. Have a back up plan for those who need a break.  One way to do this  is to appoint someone who is willing to go back to the resort with the adults, or children, who need a break from the parks or become ill.

Are you ready to plan a large group gathering to Walt Disney World?  I’m more than happy to help you make some magical memories and take the stress out of your planning!  Contact me today for more information on getting your Walt Disney World Resort trip booked and planned!  Email me at [email protected] and the planning can begin!

Paper Fastpasses going away at the Walt Disney World Resort starting next week

IMG 20130524 180913 400x400

fastpass

Starting next week paper fastpasses will no longer be available at all Walt Disney World Parks. Over the past few weeks Disney has been eliminating them from the Animal Kingdom & Magic Kingdom parks.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will transition from the paper fastpass system to FastPass+ on January 21st, and Epcot will follow suit on January 23rd, 2014. This will complete the FastPass+ rollout for all guests at all Walt Disney World theme parks.

The change over should proceed like the previous parks where offsite guests will make their 3 FastPass+ selections at one of the park kiosks stations. Reports from twitter and even over in our Disney Addict group show long lines to get to a kiosk machines, so be prepared. Also please note that you will not have access to advanced reservations if you are staying off site.

If you are onsite you can still make your Fastpass+ reservations as normal. You can see where staying on site is starting to pay off. I am not crazy about the tiered system when making your Fastpass+ selections. You should be able to select any there you want, instead of 1 E-ticket or big name Ride/Attraction and 2 smaller selections.

We want to hear what you think? Are you sad Disney is eliminating the old paper fastpass tickets? Have you had a chance to try the new system? Let us know your thoughts in the comment box below.

The Epcot Flower & Garden Festival is once again sponsored by HGTV. There will be a lot of HGTV and DIY experts in attendance. That includes most of the stars that the insiders call “The Crashers.”

Epcot Flower and Garden

In case you never heard of The Crashers, they are contractors and designers who go to home improvement stores in search of people who need help with their renovation projects. In just 3 short days they sprinkle some pixie dust on the renovation and say the magic words and then bam they get the renovation of their dreams.

The Crashers making their first appearance at this year’s festival are Matt Blashaw from “Yard Crashers,” Matt Meunster from “Bath Crashers” and Alison Victoria from “Kitchen Crashers.”

Some favorites at this year’s festival include Vern Yip, one of the judges of “Design Star,” Florida’s own David “Color Splash” Bromstad and John Gidding from “Curb Appeal.”

There will also be some new blood attending this year’s festival including “Renovation Raiders” star Amy Matthews and Chip Wade, who started with Gidding on “Curb Appeal” and he now has his own hit show called “Elbow Room.”

Here’s the lineup:

  • March 7-9 – Vern Yip, “Design Star”

‘The Fifth Estate’ Comes to DVD and Blu-ray January 28, 2014

The Fifth Estate

One of the more interesting movies of last year was Bill Condon’s ‘The Fifth Estate’, which was a story about the Julian Assange, and the creation of Wikileaks. The film starred Benedict Cumberbatch and as Assange, and Daniel Bruhl as as Daniel Berg, the founders of the now infamous site. The movie’s strength stood on the performances of its lead actors. They were incredible to watch on screen, and their stories were interesting to watch with them at the helm. I’ve been looking forward to revisiting the film, so I’m very happy to see that ‘The Fifth Estate’ is coming to DVD and blu-ray on January 28, 2014. Check out the full Press Release below.

It sure looks that way. Disney has extended their special appearance until Jan 31, 2014. However, their current location does not have room for a FastPass + Line and is cost prohibitive to run since it takes a total of 6 cast members. Yes, that’s right folks, I said 6 – 1 photopass person & 1 handler in the room; 2 cast members directly outside the doors managing the queue; the queue line then breaks to leave space open in front of the Stave Church and 2 cast members manage the remainder of the queue which begins at the statue outside the Stave Church.

My sources tell me that Disney cannot continue to have Elsa & Anna in their current location. So, there’s a good chance Disney will build them their own amazing area!

Where do you think it will be?

Anywho, that is all the Disney gossip I have right now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at [email protected] or on my facebook page.
