Eating Well For Less At Disneyland

If you’ve been paying attention at all, you know I love Disneyland. I love Disney World, Disney Cruises, Aulani and more too, but my heart will always belong to Disneyland. Part of that love comes from the fantastic food choices. I’ve always enjoyed the offerings in Disneyland far more than Disney World. Part of this is simply that Disney World is catering to a lot more visitors from everywhere.

With that rather unexciting shocking admission, here’s a great article that Disney has written. I have enjoyed their story so much, I see no need to change it. I know you’ll enjoy it as well. Check it out below:

Economy-minded vacationers will find plenty of choices for delicious dining that won’t break the budget.  Think beyond hot dogs and hamburgers.  Here are some interesting picks for inexpensive dining ($11 or less) at the Disneyland Resort:

Top 5 Tips for Your First runDisney Race

ESPN runDisney DLRHalf Hero1
ESPN runDisney DLRHalf Hero1

ESPN_runDisney_DLRHalf_Hero1

If you’re a first time runDisney runner, you might not know what to expect from a Disney race, especially if it’s your first time participating in any type of race event. Disney races are known to be really popular and often are packed to capacity. From the 5K fun runs to the full marathons, there’s something for everyone. Knowing helpful tips before your races will make the experience even more magical. Here are the top 5 tips for your first runDisney race.

Do your homework!

Like any running event, there’s a lot more involved than just showing up. runDisney races are large scale events with lots of running logistics involved. Knowing where you need to be and when is crucial. Read through all of your runDisney information – sent via email – and check out the runDisney website. You can also download most of the race literature as the event draws closer. And don’t forget to scour the booklets you get when you pick up your race bib at the expo.

Marathon Weekend Race Expo

Head to the expo early!

They say the early bird gets the worm, and that’s certainly true at a runDisney expo. The expo can get packed. Whether you’re running a 5K or a marathon, getting there early (and on one of the first days) is important. Some races require you to pick up your race bib in the HP Field House next to the Jostens Center at ESPN Wide World of Sports, where the expo is held, which means you’ll be running between buildings. Some have packet picket in the same building as the expo. Make sure to check that out ahead of time. Looking for that special runDisney merchandise? Getting there early will up your chances at getting limited edition race swag!

Rest and relax before the race!

Whether you’re running a night race or a morning race, you’ll want to take time to rest and relax. While a little bit of walking is good to keep your legs active, too much walking can put a damper on a runDisney race and your pace. Pre-race day is the perfect time to relax in the resorts and hang by the pool. Many people plan their race days at the beginning of their vacation, so they have plenty of time to pack in park touring after the big races!

Stick to your running nutrition plans!

Between Dole Whips, Mickey Bars, and Popcorn there is a lot of tempting food at Disney. Make sure not to indulge too much the day before your race. Veering off your normal nutrition path can have disastrous results during your race — and nobody likes a tummy ache during a long run! If you’re looking to carb load, there are plenty of places to imbibe in pasta and other carb filled treats. And remember those Mickey waffles are the perfect way carb load treat! If you’re running a longer race and need race nutrition like Gu’s, have them packed and ready to go in your luggage and in your race gear on the day of the race. If for some reason you forget items like this, the race expo has many of the most popular brands available for purchase.

DISNEY WORLD MARATHON WEEKEND

Have fun!

Perhaps the most important tip of all at a runDisney race is to have fun! Races have a 16:00 per mile pace requirement and the “sweepers” are not released until the very last corral is cleared. Even so, as long as your pace is in good time, take the time to stop for character photos and to enjoy the sites. Disney races are some of the best themed in the world and offer some really unique photo opportunities. You never know who you might meet on the race course! Enjoy the race and your race accomplishments! You’ve earned it!

Disney in Court Over Possible “Lotso” Trademark Infringement

LotsoHugginBear
LotsoHugginBear

lotso

I am sure you remember “Lotso” from “Toy Story 3“. He was the character that started out cute and lovable but ended up being the exact opposite. It seems as though Disney may have used someone else’s idea.

The character violates trademark because Lots-o’-Huggin Bear has the same name of the cartoon bear, “Lotso”. Lisa Diece who is a stuffed bear maker, claims in court.

She sued Disney Enterprises Inc. in Federal Court. She alleges unfair competition and trademark infringement.
She also claims she has patent and trademark protections for her line of stuffed toy bears, “Lots of Hugs.”

Lots of Hugs bears have been sold since December 1995.

“Defendant DEI, and its subsidiary, Pixar, decided that this ‘Lots-O’-Huggin’ aka ‘Lotso’ character should be the star antagonist of its ‘Toy Story 3’ movie, all without the license or authority of plaintiff DLI,” the complaint states.

“Such actions by defendant DEI, without authority of plaintiff DLI, constitutes the acts of colorably imitating plaintiff DLI’s registered ‘849 registration and its ‘Lots of Hugs’ mark …”

She claims she tried to license the bears to Interactive Group in 2011, but Interactive was scared of Disney and confusion by the consumer caused by Disney’s Lotso bear.

“Subsequently, Interactive group required that the licensed bears be marked ‘hugalots’ instead of ‘Lots of Hugs,'” the complaint states. “Interactive Group, and its licensee, have marketed and sold licensed ‘hugalots’ bears, since July 2011.”

Disney has not responded about this matter.

The Plaintiff seeks relief for actual and punitive damages, unfair competition and trademark infringement.

The Celebration Of The Music Of Disney's "Frozen"

Live performances celebrating the music of Frozen were held at the Los Angeles Vibrato Grill Jazz Club on February 9th.  Kristen Bell (voice of Anna), Idina Menzel (voice of Elsa), Josh Gad (voice of Olaf) and Santino Fontana (voice of Hans), accompanied by a live orchestra conducted by David Metzger, took the stage and performed many of the songs from the Oscar®-nominated, Golden Globe®-winning movie, FROZEN.

Idina Menzel performed the Oscar-nominated movie favorite, “Let It Go.”  Joining the many celebrities in the audience, were songwriters Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, directors Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee, producer Peter Del Vecho and executive producer John Lasseter.

FROZEN has earned $900 million worldwide, since its release in theatres on November 27, 2013.   The soundtrack has sold over 1 million units and 3.4 million tracks and has held the No. 1 position on the Billboard 200 chart for four non-consecutive weeks.  The FROZEN soundtrack is the longest-running No. 1 film soundtrack since 2003, and has peaked at No. 1 on  iTunes, in more than 30 countries.

With beautiful songs, such as “Let it Go” and “Do you Want to Build a Snowman”, tugging at our heartstrings, the FROZEN soundtrack is already an all-time favorite and will continue to collect well deserved nominations and awards.    Would you vote for “Let it Go” as the Oscar winner?

Epcot’s Frozen Meet and Greet News and Gossip

Anna and Elsa Meet and Greet

Hiya, it’s me, Anonymouse here again with some more Frozen news and a little gossip. The Frozen Meet and Greet of Anna & Elsa has been extremely popular ever since they began greeting guests in Epcot’s Norway Pavilion. Will they continue to meet and greet their fans through the end of the year?

A couple of days ago on February 9 at Epcot’s Norway Pavilion, the Frozen meet and greet began testing new operating hours lasting until February 15 2014. Beginning 2 hours earlier in the morning, you will be able to meet Elsa and Anna from 9am through to 6pm. This should help with the wait times, which are often 2 hours long and upwards of 5 hours.

My sources say that Elsa and Anna may continue to meet and greet guests through the remainder of the calendar year. Let’s hope so because I know lots of little kids and adults too that would like to meet them.

Also did you hear the news that Anna & Elsa will be receiving their own float in the Festival of Fantasy Parade starting this March in the Magic Kingdom?

Finally the last bit of Anna & Elsa gossip I have heard is there will be 1 other place you can meet your 2 favorite Characters from Disney’s Frozen. Not sure if that will be around Meet & Greet in the Parks or if we might see them get their own ride that might be replacing the Maelstrom. We will have to wait and see.

Anywho, that is all the Disney gossip I have right now. For my past gossip articles be sure to check them out here. Got any good gossip/rumors please email me at[email protected] or on my facebook page.

Disney World Cast Members Try for Better Wages and Benefits

Disney has about 37,000 unionized Cast Members at the most magical place on earth. The unions and the Cast Members are getting ready to negotiate for higher wages, more affordable benefits and improvements to pension plans because their union contract is set to expire at the end of March.

“I love my job, but I have been working here for 20 years, and making $13.45 after that long doesn’t sound like much,” said Sherry Shulz, 65, who trains new hires. She said more money would ease her concerns over paying for health care and gas for her 40-mile commute to work.

Cast Members at Disney World are represented by 6 different local unions called the Service Trades Council

The unionized Disney workers also get opportunities for overtime, as well as paid holidays and vacation time.
“Disney is a great company to work for and they care about their people … but it’s very hard to get by on what many of them make, and we think they can do more financially,” said Ed Chambers, president of the Service Trades Council.

The group represents local branches of the United Food and Commercial Workers, Teamsters, Transportation Communications International Union, Unite Here and International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees. It was formed in 1971, just as Disney World was preparing to open and hiring its first workers, Chambers said.

Wages differ based on position and length of time Cast Members have worked with the company. For example, a Disney character’s wage starts at $8.20 per hour, and maxes out at $13.59. Base pay for an entertainment technician, on the other hand, starts at $14.75 an hour and is capped at $21.60.

Keeping the cost of benefits down will be another component of the negotiations, said Donna-Lynne Dalton, a former Disney performer and treasurer for the Service Trades Council.

Chambers said Disney had offered to extend the current contract for another year and raise wages by 3.5% back in August, however 2 of the unions rejected the idea in hopes of larger raises.

The union pressure comes from the fact that Disney has been rolling in the money and Cast Members feel the company should pass along some of the profits to the people who make the company what it is today. Disney has seen a record number of guests. Recently they reported over a 10% increase in operating profit from their parks and resorts.
