Never been on a Disney Cruise?  Whether you are traveling with a family, or sans kids, Disney Cruise Line is perfect for everyone!  It’s just enough Disney, the world class service you can expect from the Walt Disney World Travel Company, and it’s practically all-inclusive!  Your meals, {with the exception of Palo and Remy} are included, all non alcoholic drinks,  Broadway caliber entertainment, movies, kids’ clubs, and more are included with your cruise fare.

So, what are you getting into when you take a Disney cruise?  Today I am going to share some Fun Facts about the Disney Cruise Line!

  • The Disney Cruise Line ships are painted in Mickey Mouse-inspired colors – black hull, white superstructure, yellow trim and two giant red funnels, each with the Disney Cruise Line Mickey Mouse logo.
  • Disney Cruise Line ships use the familiar first seven notes of the “When You Wish Upon a Star” song melody as their horn signals.
  • Disney ships are the only cruise ships to have four captains – the ship’s captain, Captain Mickey, Captain Hook and Captain Jack Sparrow.
  • Eighty-eight percent of the staterooms on the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream and more than 70 percent of staterooms on the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder have ocean views. Of those, nearly 90 percent and 60 percent, respectively, have private verandahs.
  • On a special night aboard most Disney cruises, the “Pirates IN the Caribbean” deck party features a spectacular pyrotechnics performance – fireworks at sea like only Disney can do!  The only cruise line to feature fireworks at sea-it’s Disney, we have to have fireworks, right?
  • Disney Cruise Line is the first in the industry where  most staterooms on Disney ships feature a split “bath-and-a-half” design, providing families the added convenience of a sink and tub/shower in one room and a sink and toilet in a separate room.
  • The main showplace for entertainment, the Walt Disney Theatre spans three decks and can seat 977 guests onboard the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder and 1,340 guests on the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.
  • With ships purpose built for family cruising, Disney cruise ships boast nearly an entire deck of space dedicated to age-specific children’s activities.
  • Castaway Cay was the first private island in the cruise industry where the ship docks alongside so guests do not have to tender to land.
  • Measuring 964 feet in length, the Disney Magic and Disney Wonder are each longer than Main Street U.S.A at the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World. At 1,115 feet, the Disney Fantasy and Disney Dream are longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris and longer than the height of New York City’s famous Chrysler Building.

The Great Gonzo Will be Grand Marshal of The NASCAR Auto Club 400

The Great Gonzo
The Great Gonzo

The Great Gonzo

Gonzo is a daredevil, so Sunday, March 23 he will be among his fellow daredevils at the NASCAR Auto Club 400. He will be making his appearance just 2 days after his new movie, “Muppets Most Wanted,” hits theaters.

He will give the command “Drivers, Start Your Engines” to NASCAR’s own field of 43 daredevils as Grand Marshal for the Auto Club 400 at Auto Club Speedway. The race will be televised live on FOX at Noon (PT).

“Going around in circles as fast as possible is how I got my start,” said Gonzo, who counts NASCAR racing among his favorite sports. “So it’s a real honor to be named Grand Marshal of this year’s Auto Club 400! For me, it’s right up there with sword-juggling, bog-snorkeling and competitive dentistry.”

Gonzo stars in the upcoming Disney movie “Muppets Most Wanted,” which takes the entire Muppets gang on a global tour, selling out grand theaters in some of Europe’s most exciting destinations, including Berlin, Madrid, Dublin and London. But mayhem follows the Muppets overseas, as they find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine—the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog—and his dastardly sidekick Dominic, aka Number Two, portrayed by Ricky Gervais. The film stars Ty Burrell as Interpol agent Jean Pierre Napoleon and Tina Fey as Nadya, a feisty prison guard.

“Muppets Most Wanted” will be in theaters March 21, 2014.

Disney’s Frozen Blu-Ray/DVD Review

FROZEN Box Art
FROZEN Box Art

First, a little bit about “Frozen”: Walt Disney Animation Studios presents a chilly twist on one of the most humorous and heartwarming stories ever told. Fearless optimist Anna sets off on an epic journey — teaming up with rugged mountain man Kristoff and his loyal reindeer Sven — to find her sister Elsa, whose icy powers have trapped the kingdom of Arendelle in eternal winter. Encountering Everest-like conditions, mystical trolls and a hilarious snowman named Olaf, Anna and Kristoff battle the elements in a race to save the kingdom.

There are not even words to express how much I love this movie. In my opinion it is unlike any other Disney princess movie. When I first saw the movie in theaters I thought it was going to be the usual “Someday my Prince Will Come”, “True Loves First Kiss”, kind of movie. For most of the movie I was fooled, but than it was revealed that the act of true love, was the love of her sister. I was shocked and happily surprised all at the same time. I never thought Disney would make a movie like this. It is definitely refreshing and I hope they do many more like it. Maybe a Frozen 2?

There is nothing bad to say about this movie, it is perfection. It had the just the right amount of humor. The songs were amazing, the animation was incredible, the story-line was refreshing and new, and the characters were so well put together.  It is true Disney magic.

I usually try to pick my favorite parts of a movie, but it’s hard to do with this one because every part is my favorite part. I must admit though I do have a soft spot for trolls. How could you not love them, they are adorable and they accessorize so well. I would also love to visit Oaken’s Trading Post. Maybe for the “Big Summer Blowout”.

As usual, Disney has incredible Bonus Features.

  • There is the short “Get a Horse”, I am not the biggest fan of shorts but this one was pretty cute.
  • The Making of “Frozen”, the best way I can describe that is a comedy mini-musical.
  • Breaking the Ice: The Real Making of “Frozen”, which is pretty self explanatory.
  • 4 Deleted Scenes which are brought to you by Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck. My Favorite was “The Dressing Room”. You will see what Elsa could have been.
  • Music Videos for “Let it Go” in different Languages.
  • D’frosted: Disney’s Journey From Hans Christian Anderson to Frozen. This was my favorite, it tells you some background how the movie we know and love came to fruition. All I can say is The Enchanted Snow Palace would have been a great ride. I also love seeing the sketches and the interviews with Disney legends.
  • Last but not least the “Frozen” teaser trailer.

A little tip: Be sure to stay tuned after the credits. Don’t blink or you will miss a message at the end. Shortly after that is the cutest scene, I call it snow-monster meets crown.

Frozen is on DVD & Bluray tomorrow March 18th, 2014. Run out and get your copy today!

I give this movie an A+

‘Muppets Most Wanted’ Press Junket Part 2: The Cast

IMG 2825
IMG 2825

IMG_2811

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to attend a press junket for ‘Muppets Most Wanted’, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2011 film, ‘The Muppets’. The new film stars Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey, with everyone’s favorite Muppets, on a worldwide adventure that sees the Muppets caught in the middle of a crime wave, where they are suspect number one. Disney invited us out to talk to the people behind the film, getting an inside look at their minds during the filmmaking process. The day was split up between two panels, the second of which was made up of the film’s cast, from left to right, Tina Fey, Kermit the Frog, Ricky Gervais, Constantine Frog, Ty Burrell, Sam Eagle, and Miss Piggy, who makes a late appearance.

The cast sat down to talk to us about making the movie, for The Muppets, what it was like to work with their new human counterparts, and so much more. The first question to kick off the day, which was a wonderfully hilarious, was why Kermit decided not to play the duel roles of himself, as well as the film’s villain, Constantine. Kermit’s answer was a wonderful, and so fitting to why we love the character:

Well, you know it didn’t make sense for me to play Constantine ‘cause we do have a few scenes together and I don’t really work on green screen so we couldn’t really make that work.  But plus, listen Constantine is actually a—a distant cousin, from Russia.

That definitely makes a lot of sense, and pretty much shows once again, it really isn’t easy being green, for our favorite Frog. But it’s nice he was at least able to get a distant relative that looks incredibly like him to be in the film and really sell their similarities. One of my favorite moments came when Sam Eagle and Ty Burrell talked about how much they bonded on set. Sam was quite taken with Ty, and was so convinced by his French accent, that he thought he was really a french man. He then threw praise on Ty, saying that his performance would go down in history as one of the greatest French performances of all time. It was a sweet, and overly hilarious, part that made me love the Muppets that much more.

At one point, the question did come up asking the human actors if they idea of singing in the film made them nervous at all. While Gervais said the signing wasn’t a problem, it was actually the dancing that had him nervous:

Well, I was okay with singing.  I’m a failed pop star.  I always sneak a song into everything I do, whether it’s David Brenn or Simpson’s or but, my dancing is a little awkward.  A little embarrassed about that.  I don’t move well.  But I was with a frog.

Fey would go on to continue:

Yeah, you know you have a good voice.  And my singing sounds like if you’ve ever seen the version of Oliver when the little boy sings and you can hear the hiss of how loud they had to turn up the microphone, it’s—my singing sounds like that.

They went on to say that even if they weren’t incredibly great at singing, Bret McKenzie wrote wonderful songs, giving them the appearance of being able to sing, something they were all grateful for. Sam Eagle seems to think we were all spared his horrible singing voice, by design, because he only has two singing parts, and he’s basically talking instead of singing, something he wasn’t insulted about.

One of the reasons I’ve been so excited for this film was the inclusion of Ricky Gervais, who I think is an underrated comedic genius. Apparently, I wasn’t alone in my sentiments, as another journalist professed to being a huge fan of Gervais’ work, and had to ask him, if he did another season of his hit show, ‘An Idiot Abroad’, starring Karl Pilkington, which Muppet would he pair him with. Gervais’ answer was wonderfully spot on and candid, especially if you know anything about the TV series:

I reckon, wow, Piggy I reckon, It can’t stand anything high maintenance and whiney so that—that would be good.  That would, that would really, I mean, that would finish him off I think. Or Bunsen, that would be good as well.  Because they look so alike. That would confuse him.  He wouldn’t know which one he was by the end of the, by the end of the show so that would be easy.

As this was happening, Sam Eagle was notified of a disturbance in the lobby, because he was actually also helping as hotel security at the event, so he would have to leave us. It was great to see Sam was going out of his way to protect the well meaning journalists who had come to talk with him and his friends. But it wasn’t long after that we were blessed with the presence of Miss Piggy, who was, unsurprisingly, fashionably late. But as she appeared, you could feel some tension between her and Tina Fey, who apparently hadn’t been getting along. It turned out, Miss Piggy had actually been refusing to meet Tina on set, and the feud seems to be festering about still. But the two kept it professional throughout, which was great.

One journalist did ask the human actors, now that they have kids, doesn’t being in a Muppet film give them any sort of street cred with their kids? Burrell was quick to answer:

My kids are still so unimpressed by me.  I’m banking this one.  I’m gonna, I’ve learned this already from other, any other kids project that it’s if I wanna save my ego I’m gonna bank this.  I’m gonna put it out in five years or something.  But so far, it’s one minute of—of why is daddy on screen and—and 90 minutes of I’m hungry.

So it seems that even if the film is a huge hit, Burrell’s kids are more interested in having food then watching their dad in the film. But this would be where the junket would begin to wind down, but of course, Piggy would get at least a few questions before it was over. When asked what it was like to work with Celine Dion, Piggy was incredibly modest:

Well, working with Celine Dion it was a pleasure.  It was a joy for her naturally. Yes, I’m—I’m only too happy to let her ride my coat tails up to the Oscar stage.  Yes, it was a joy.  We only spent a little time together but—but it was very meaningful to her.

But sadly, before we knew it, the day was over. In spending this time with Muppets, as well as Gervais, Burrell, Fey, director James Bobin, song writer Bret McKenzie, and producer Todd Lieberman, that they all love and adore the Muppet world, and they just want to bring the best possible Muppet films to life for audiences to enjoy. They are bent on making films that not only kids can appreciate, but ones that parents can enjoy too. There’s so much love and heart put into this films, and it’s good to see so much interest vested in making the Muppets a huge sensation.

Don’t forget, ‘Muppets Most Wanted’ opens on March 21, 2014. The film stars Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, Ty Burrell, Ricky Gervais, Constantine Frog, Walter, and Tina Fey, and is directed by James Bobin.

Planes fire and rescue
Planes fire and rescue

Planes fire and rescue

A little bit about“Planes: Fire & Rescue”, it is a comedy-adventure about second chances, featuring a dynamic crew of elite firefighting aircraft devoted to protecting historic Piston Peak National Park from raging wildfire. When world famous air racer Dusty (voice of Dane Cook) learns that his engine is damaged and he may never race again, he must shift gears and is launched into the world of aerial firefighting.

When world-famous air racer Dusty Crophopper (voice of Dane Cook) returns to hometown Propwash Junction after another victorious racing season, the former crop duster revels in his new career success until a fateful training run changes his course with a career-ending injury.  Forced to shift gears, Dusty decides to train with the Aerial Fire Fighters at Piston Peak Air Attack Base as a Single Engine Air Tanker (SEAT).

Here are some of the new characters:

Blade Ranger Planes Fire and Rescue

Blade Ranger (voice of Ed Harris), a veteran fire-and-rescue helicopter, heads up the Piston Peak Air Attack team. Haunted by a storied past, he’s a tough and demanding air boss with a wry sense of humor, and he’s not exactly enthusiastic about his new trainee Dusty. But Blade is a pro and does everything he can to bring the new seat up to speed.

Dipper Planes Fire & Rescue

Outgoing and spirited super scooper Dipper (voice of Julie Bowen) is skilled at skimming lakes, scooping up more than 1600 gallons of water and dousing angry fires. A former cargo hauler from Alaska, Dipper is an avid air racing fan with a major crush on headline racer Dusty, so she’s head-over-wheels with excitement when the new SEAT shows up at Piston Peak.

Cabbie Planes Fire and Rescue

A jolly old ex-military transport plane, Cabbie (voice of Dale Dye) used to drop airborne utility vehicles behind enemy lines in Korea. Now he drops smokejumpers at Piston Peak—it’s a lot like combat, but nobody’s shootin’ at him. With a payload of 10,000.

Disney World Resort Hosts Nonprofit Volunteer Training

The Disney World Resort hosted 26 Central Florida nonprofit organizations for Ready, Set, Go! training by generationOn, the youth division of Points of Light, with support from Hands On Orlando.

This workshop is supposed to help community groups gain and keep more youth volunteers and focus more on family centered service. This workshop helped these organizations with new ideas and resources to help them recruit more volunteers.

“As more and more parents search for service opportunities that enable them to volunteer with their children, we wanted to help nonprofits explore ways to accommodate adults and kids working side by side,” said Nancy Gidusko, director of community relations at Walt Disney World Resort. “Our Cast Members teamed up with generationOn to give Central Florida groups the tools they need to develop family volunteer activities.”

It was hosted at the beautiful Grand Floridian Resort. There were people from local nonprofits like Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida, Heart of Florida United Way and the Coalition for the Homeless of Central Florida.

Disney World Resort will donate $5,000 to help these organizations put what they have learned to use.

“As an organization that relies on volunteers, we’re always open to new ways of expanding our base of support,” said Jada Smith, chief executive officer for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Florida. “Thanks to generationOn and Walt Disney World Resort, we’ll benefit from increased volunteer service and families will benefit from spending more meaningful time together. It’s truly a win-win for Central Florida’s community.”

Ready, Set, Go! highlights the value of providing quality family volunteer opportunities, training nonprofit staff members to create specific ideas for family and youth engagement in their organizations.

“As any parent with young children knows, the availability of family volunteer activities is limited,” said Amy Smith, president of Points of Light’s generationOn. “Our Ready, Set, Go! training helps nonprofits design volunteer activities for the entire family. Through the generous support of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts, we will be able to bring this program to multiple cities around the U.S. this year.”

‘Muppets Most Wanted’ Press Junket Part 1: The Filmmakers

IMG 2798
IMG 2798

IMG_2798

Last weekend, I was lucky enough to attend a press junket for ‘Muppets Most Wanted‘, the highly anticipated sequel to the 2011 film, ‘The Muppets’. The day was split up between two panels, the first of which was with director James Bobin, the film’s song writer, Brett McKenzie, and producer Todd Lieberman, as they covered what it was like returning to the world of The Muppets.

One of the most interesting parts of the junket came when someone asked about the film’s title, which was heavily rumored for some time to be ‘The Muppets…Again’. When the film starts, there’s a musical number, “We’re Doing a Sequel”, which has the characters that it’s, “the Muppets, again,” which one of the journalists caught. Bret McKenzie went on to explain what happened there, and apparently it had to do with the people marketing the film:

And, so the first song we’re doing a sequel ends with the Muppets all singing “it’s the Muppets again,” because we’d thought it be great to, you know, the song to have the title of the movie in it but then well after we’d filmed it all, uh, Marketing decided to change the name of the movie and, and so, we tried going “it’s the Muppets Most Wanted,” and, it really didn’t sit very well on the mouths of the Muppets, so we did okay.

It’s interesting to see that the marketing of the film changed the film’s title overall, something that the filmmakers may not have necessarily agreed with it, but they don’t seem to have any hard feelings towards it, which is great. It’s even better to see they tried to play with it and add it to the song.

One thing the Muppets have always been known for, is the parade of cameos in their films and show. Stars appear sporadically throughout, not surprisingly, and the filmmakers were asked about people asking to be in the film. Director James Bobin and producer Todd Lieberman talked a bit about how some of the stars in the film came about.

Bobin: Yeah, no for—from when—when Nick and I write the script we’re writing peoples names in often and obviously certain people have to be that person like you can’t do the Christoph Waltz joke with anybody else because it is about a waltz so that’s impossible.  But …

Lieberman: …a lot of the cameos, we have a list of people who want to be in the movie and then as we kinda go through, as these guys go through writing the movie, we gather other intel of fans and people we like and people that like us and then we kinda do this grid. But there’s so many people who love the Muppets and it’s kind of, it’s an interesting matrix to put together to figure out where people go correctly and how to fit all the people that love in the movie which, you know, hopefully we’ve accomplished.

Bobin went on to say that he was also approached on the street on many occasions by actors and personalities, hoping to land a role in the film, and many times, he’d give them one, with Lady Gaga in particular being pointed out going that route to getting a role in the film.

Of course, the question of if Brett McKenzie felt any pressure of his song creation, coming off his Academy Award win for the last film’s song, “Man of Muppet”, did come up. McKenzie joked a bit about it, but went on to talk about a bit about the process, and telling a funny of story about where he composed many of the film’s songs:

Nope. [LAUGHTER] Yeah, but what can you do? You know there’s a little bit of pressure and, on my piano at home I have the Oscar. It sits on my piano and so occasionally I’ll be working around looking at, oh, that’s not good enough.  But then, I moved to LA to work on the songs and we hired a space in—on Hollywood Boulevard, an old—an old shop and I put a piano in there.  It was like this sorta dusty old shop to hide away and work on these songs and these guys came and visited, to listen to the demos and it was quite a funny scene because people would be walking by hearing this, me hitting on, you know, playing the piano and occasionally—occasionally they’d walk in and they’d say, “is there music lessons going on here?” Or what is this?  Is this some sort of art installation?

But the most interesting, and really the most important topic that was brought up, was how it came to balancing a film that both kids and adults could enjoy together and love. That’s been a huge staple of the series for a long time, featuring humor for kids, while also making references to things that the parents will understand and laugh at that they may not get. Bobin was very upfront with the question, and went on to say:

Yeah, it’s one of the challenges of this film is it has to be for everybody. I remember watching the Muppet show in the 70’s and it was the thing I watched when I was, you know, six or seven and my dad watched it with me and my grandparents watched it with me.  And we’re all laughing throughout but I think we’re probably laughing at different things.  And it’s kinda what we’re gonna do in this film too whereby I—I now have children of my own and so I watch with my daughter.  And she laughs her head off and I laugh my head off.  But again, probably at different things.  And so it’s that thing where we’re trying to do both things at the same time throughout and so for me it’s about multi layering the story and multi layering the jokes on top of visuals and creating something which bears repeat viewing.  That’s another huge thing about it.  I love making a movie you can watch again, again and again ‘cause kids watch things a lot.  You know, my—my kids wear out movies they love.  They watch them again and they’re no kinda limit to how many times they can watch it, and I love the idea that if you build something with enough depth and texture you can watch it again and again and see new things every time and that’s very important.

Then Lieberman would go on to say:

But the idea is and from the beginning we—we always set out to not make a movie for kids but make a movie for everybody that kids also loved and so if we laughed we knew it would—it would appeal to us and then we also have kids so we could kind of use them as a test audience.
