Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Press Conference was held at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank.  Driving in to the building I was excited to get to see the stars of the movie and check out the new Hasbro Merchandise on display.  After a delicious lunch (thanks WD Studios) and a quick look at the displays, I secured a seat in the press room and waited patiently for the event to begin.

Attending the press conference were Director, James Gunn, Michael Rooker, Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista and Benicio Del Toro.  After a quick introduction and many pictures by the media photographers, the first question was asked of Producer, James Gunn.

Producer James Gunn shared that although these characters are not as well known as some of the other Marvel characters, he felt is was liberating to be able to be a part of a project that could bring new characters to audiences.

Asked about his role as Peter Quill, Chris Pratt commented about finding the right attitude and shared how he just trusted James Gunn.  “The challenge is not like finding the attitude, it’s really just like being open and willing to go for it and try different things…”  Chris also talked about how he saw himself taking on the role of a huge super hero, and shared how he was not sure he saw himself in this type of role and credits, James Gunn for the vision to see what the character needed to be.

James Gunn was asked about the inspiration behind the emotional journey and the exposed vulnerabilities the characters endured.    James responded stating that the movie was about how a son’s relationship with his mom can manifest itself throughout the rest of his life which is the emotional factor of the movie.   The second emotional component to the movie was that although we live in a world where everyone wants to be cool and tough, the characters are allowed to care and allowed the movie to evolve into a “film about family”.

The music was an important part of the movie and James Gunn commented on how he wrote all the songs from the movie into the screenplay from the start and felt the cassette tape and Walkman were the emotional center and a key character on its own.

Zoe Saldana talked about her role as Gamora.  Zoe referred to her character as a lost soul full of pain yet trying to find that last bit of hope.   Zoe also discussed how she incorporated the moves and fighting skills based on a spanish bullfighting dance sequence a friend had put together.  Once Zoe saw this dance, she knew it was the perfect way to portray Gamora.  “She’s a woman and she just has to be very seductive in the way that she tricks her enemy into falling into their own death.”

Benicio Del Toro was next in discussing his role as The Collector.  When asked how Benicio approached his role, his response was that he tentative in trying out different things but James Gunn was very supportive and gave him the opportunity to take chances and try different things to make The Collector work.

The cast talked about the physical scenes and Chris Pratt teased Michael Rooker about leaving his knuckle prints on Chris’ ribs during one of the fight scenes.

Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista and Benicio Del Toro were asked about playing Marvel Characters.    Dave started by saying “it was not so much about the Marvel thing” but more about making a movie that was new and original.   Benicio Del Toro shared how sometimes you can “do a movie you this is great and then it doesn’t work” In this case, the movie “hit me on every sense” and he really enjoyed being in such a good movie.

Vin Diesel finished off the question by sharing that for him it started with the social media wanting him to do something with Marvel.   Vin Diesel said playing a character that celebrates life was very therapeutic for him personally.

The group ended the session by sharing their favorite music from the movie.  For James Gunn, “I want you back by the Jackson 5 are his favorite but in the movie it was Come and Get your Love by Red Bone which is the song that cemented the whole idea of the mixed tape in the movie.   Chris Pratt said the song that “really worked for him was “Ooh, Child… because it had the perfect beat to run to.  For Zoe Saldana, Cherry Bomb was the favorite because it helped prep the group up to save the day.   Vin Diesel had a hard time choosing his favorite and instead talked about how he loved all the music.  He shared how he sings the music all the time – Hooked on a Feeling with his son, and how Peter Quill’s soundtrack is an incredible collection.  Dave Bautista finished the question with his favorite – I want you back (Jackson 5) and then added that his favorite film song Ain’t no Mountain High Enough because it was such a “feel good song … in a feel good scene where we finally come together and we are a family”.

Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is the story of Peter Quill, a human in an alien world that joins forces with a group of misfits, which include Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Gamora and Drax, the Destroyer.   Together this group sets out to save the universe from evil and destruction.   Guardians of the Galaxy premieres in theatres on August 1, 2014.   Don’t miss this funny, heartwarming yet fierce battle filled movie sure to become a favorite of Marvel and Disney fans.

MaternityCollage

Anyone who is or has been pregnant can attest to the fact that maternity clothes, while they have come a LONG way in recent years – are not always the most fashionable or cute things on the planet. It’s hard to look and feel cute when you’re feeling tired, bloated, and spending 90% emptying your bladder…and it’s also harder to enjoy a trip to Walt Disney World – considering there are a lot of rides you can’t ride while pregnant. But there are a few things you CAN do – you can see all the great shows and ride some of the milder rides (check out which ones are safe Here, and you can shop till you drop of course, and you can arrive at the Parks looking adorably pregnant too, with these great Disney Maternity Clothes ideas:

DYI Disney Maternity Clothes: So there really aren’t many (aka there really aren’t any) stores that carry Disney themed apparel for moms-to-be, which means you might have to get creative – if you’re good with a sewing machine you can embroider something – like the Christmas or Mouseketeer themed ones pictured above, or you can rely on my personal favorite – the Iron-on transfer – where you can take virtually any design or picture, print it out, and iron it onto a maternity shirt to show your Disney side! Or – you can always infuse a little humor into your creation and make your man something to wear too (like I did with my husband!)

IronOn

Iron-ons are super easy to use, and with just a little imagination you can create shirts showing your excitement for the new addition for the whole family!

Buying Disney Maternity Clothes: Ok, so maybe you aren’t the most crafty, or you don’t have time to create your own Disney maternity clothes – no worries, as the magic of the internet is here to save you! Bonus Clip From The Statler & Waldorf Cut of Muppets Most Wanted

JM2 7889
JM2 7889

MUPPETS MOST WANTED

In anticipation of the Blu-ray release of Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted,” Disney has released a new bonus clip from The Stater & Waldorf Cut of the film! As usual, these two cynical old Muppets express their thoughts on The Muppets. This time, they have decided to edit Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted” in order to improve the film. As you can imagine, Statler & Waldorf’s favorite part of the film seems to be the end. Take a look at the bonus clip below!

The Muppets are back in the globe-trotting, star-studded musical comedy adventure Disney’s “Muppets Most Wanted,” available on Blu-ray Combo Pack, Digital HD, DVD, Disney Movies Anywhere, and On-Demand August 12th, 2014, from Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment. Starring Ricky Gervais, Ty Burrell, and Tina Fey, this must-own family film makes its in-home debut with THREE versions of the film: The Original Theatrical Cut, the Statler and Waldorf Cut, and The Unnecessarily Extended Cut, featuring hilarious bonus content, plus more music, more mayhem, and more Muppets!

The #1 comedy in America three weeks in a row, “Muppets Most Wanted” picks up immediately following the events of the smash hit “The Muppets,” as Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Animal and the entire Muppet gang head out on a world tour. But mayhem follows, as the Muppets find themselves unwittingly entangled in an international crime caper headed by Constantine – the World’s Number One Criminal and a dead ringer for Kermit the Frog!

Now Muppet fans can experience this laugh and song-filled caper like never before on Blu-ray Combo Pack in an all-new “Unnecessarily Extended Edition,” featuring 12 minutes of exclusive scenes not seen in theaters! Also included on Blu-ray and Digital HD are additional hilarious bonus features, including Statler and Waldorf’s version of the movie, and the laugh-out-loud gag reel, “The Longer, Longest Blooper Reel in Muppets History.”

This most sensational, inspirational, celebrational home entertainment release also includes the featurette “Rizzo’s Biggest Fan” and music video “I Can Give You What You Want,” performed by Bret McKenzie.

Starring Kermit the Frog, Miss Piggy, Fozzie Bear, The Great Gonzo, Animal, Ricky Gervais (“The Office”) as Dominic Badguy, Ty Burrell (“Modern Family”) as Jean Pierre Napoleon and Tina Fey (“30 Rock”) as Nadya the Prison Guard, “Muppets Most Wanted” also features very special guest appearances by Tony Bennett, Sean Combs, Rob Corddry, Celine Dion, Josh Groban, Salma Hayek, Ray Liotta, Ross Lynch, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christoph Waltz, and more!

“Muppets Most Wanted” was directed by James Bobin (“The Muppets,” “Flight of the Conchords”), written by Bobin and Nicholas Stoller (“The Muppets,” “Get Him To The Greek”), and produced by David Hoberman (“The Muppets,” “Beverly Hills Chihuahua”) and Todd Lieberman (“The Muppets,” “The Fighter”).

What To Do On Arrival Day At Walt Disney World

P1150131
P1150131

Aloha

For many guests visiting Walt Disney World, much of their arrival day is spent traveling. This can be exhausting and time consuming. By the time you arrive at the Most Magical Place on Earth, you’ve more than likely already missed out on several hours the  parks have been open. Rather than visiting the parks on arrival day, I recommend a relaxing day taking advantage of some of the great Disney activities available outside of the parks.

Visiting Downtown Disney is my favorite thing to do on arrival day. The Downtown Disney area is filled with unique stores, delicious foods, and even a hot air balloon. The World of Disney is the largest Disney store in the entire world. You’ll definitely want to make a stop there. Downtown Disney also features other great stores such as the new Marketplace Co-Op, Tren-D, Disney’s Day of Christmas, and more.

If you’re in the mood for something to eat, Downtown Disney is also home to some fabulous restaurants. You can dine at restaurants such as Earl of Sandwich, Wolfgang Puck, Planet Hollywood, and House of Blues. If you’re looking for something sweeter, you can also find my personal favorite, the Mickey Premium Ice Cream Bar at Downtown Disney. Goofy’s Candy Co. is another great place to stop for something to satisfy your sweet tooth.

For guests staying on property at Walt Disney World, arrival day is a great time to take advantage of the Magic Your Way package inclusions. Disney’s Magic Your Way vacation packages include vouchers for several different non-park activities. Using your two free admissions, you could spend the day at Disney’s interactive theme park, Disney Quest. If miniature golf is more your style, these vacation packages include two free vouchers for a round of miniature golf at either Disney’s Fantasia Gardens or Winter Summerland miniature golf courses. You can also take advantage of a 10% discount at Splitsville, the bowling alley at Downtown Disney.

Your arrival day is also the perfect time to take in one of the many shows outside the Disney parks. Visit Cirque du Soleil – La Nouba at Downtown Disney to see a spectacular show consisting of more than 65 talented acrobats, trapeze artists, jugglers, and more. Several of the Disney resorts also host entertaining dinner shows. You can experience an authentic Hawaiian luau at The Spirit of Aloha dinner show located at Disney’s Polynesian Resort. Disney’s Fort Wilderness hosts the Hoop-De-Doo Musical Revue, a dinner show featuring Wild West dancing, Vaudeville comedy, and delicious BBQ foods.

In addition to dinner shows, the Walt Disney World resorts offer numerous entertaining activities. You can rent a boat from one of the Magic Kingdom area resorts and set sail on Bay Lake and the Seven Seas Lagoon. Both Fort Wilderness and Port Orleans offer carriage rides around the resort. Each of the Disney resorts also features a uniquely themed swimming pool. (Please note that pool hopping is not allowed at Walt Disney World.)

A ride on the monorail is another great resort activity for your arrival day. Many guests, myself included, consider the monorail to be an attraction in and of itself. You can see the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, and Contemporary as you take a ride on the Magic Kingdom monorail loop. You can even take a ride through Epcot’s Future World on the Epcot monorail loop.

What is your favorite arrival day activity at Walt Disney World? Let us know in the comments below!
