The Crane Returns to Cinderella’s Castle

P1080561
P1080561

Crane

Towering over Cinderella’s Castle, the crane returns to Magic Kingdom. For most of us that can only mean one thing… The holidays are right around the corner and the installation of the Cinderella Castle Dream Lights are underway.

The crane made its debut this year on September 8th and is expected to remain there though at least September 21st. Yes the crane will be photo bombing our castle selfies over the next couple of weeks but that is only temporary and the beautiful display of lights we get in return more than makes up for it.

Each year the castle is draped with 200,000 LED lights as part of a holiday themed visual spectacle and it is lit nightly during a stage show in front of the castle.  The holiday light display is expected to run through the first week of January.

Do you manage to always catch the crane at WDW? Let us know in the comment box below.

Counter Service At Hollywood Studios – Where To Grab A Quick Bite

Pizzaplanet
Pizzaplanet

???????????????????????????????

Sometimes while you’re touring the WDW Parks, you don’t have the time to stop and sit down and have a table service meal – but you still want something delicious – so what do you do? Counter Service eateries to the rescue! They’re a great way to grab a fast, fresh meal – and there are tons of places to choose from! I recently wrote about places to grab a quick bite at both the Magic Kingdom and Animal Kingdom – and today I want to explore the different counter service options at Disney’s Hollywood Studios:

ABC Commissary – This eatery is full of ABC memorabilia from current and past shows, and it has a HUGE indoor seating area (which is nice on a hot day, but can be noisy too!). Choose from menu options like: Asian Salad, Couscous and Quinoa salads, shrimp and fish platters, a cheeseburger, and a chicken club

Backlot Express – Located in the backlot area of the Studios (aptly named, right?), this eatery features a huge shaded section of tables and a pretty decent menu – Southwest salad, cheeseburger, chicken nuggets, chili dog, turkey and vegetable sandwiches are all delicious options to try. The restaurant itself is made to look like a big prop warehouse – so it’s a pretty cool place to explore and check out what is being “stored” there!

Starring Roles Café – Breakfast time options here include a variety of coffee drinks, as well as assorted pastries and bagels. There are only a few actual “meals” served here – assorted sushi (tuna, shrimp. Combo platter), ham and turkey sandwiches – but the star of the show is at this café is definitely dessert! Amazing cakes, cookies, fudge, and cupcakes are on display here – and they are GOOD! So save room for dessert when you come to this spot (or have dessert for lunch – no judgment here!), and try and come at an off time, as there isn’t a ton of seating (and NO indoor tables, it’s a small place!). It’s hard for me to walk by without running in and buying 18 butterfinger cupcakes – but I usually manage to resist the urge…

Toy Story Pizza Planet – This is definitely a family friendly place that kids will LOVE – its got two levels of indoor seating, and the décor is very arcade like – oh, and like an arcade – there are a ton of video games here too! A great thing to distract the kids while the adults wait for their food Assorted adult and kid size pizzas – pepperoni, cheese, veggie, meat lovers, as well as a Meatball sub and antipasto salad are all on the menu

Studio Catering Company – There are some unique and tasty options available here – sloppy joes, buffalo chicken sandwich, turkey club, and a toasted Tuscan-style sandwich with salami and pepperoni, plus there’s a ton of shaded seating which is great for those who have had a long day on their feet! Oh, and if it’s after lunch time you can even grab a drink next door at “high octane refreshments” – frozen margarita anyone?

Fairfax Fare – This spot is easy to miss when you’re on your way to the Tower Of Terror – but you will want to make sure to keep an eye out for it, as it’s a great option for all three meals! A hot breakfast is available – with options including an egg and cheese muffin, cereal, cinnamon roll, yogurt, etc to help start your day off right! Later in the day you will find chicken and spare ribs, pork sandwich, chili dog, pork and macaroni and cheese topped hot dogs on the menu – all of which make for a hearty meal that will keep you full and ready to hit more rides!

Rosie’s All American Café – Named after Rosie the Riveter, you’ll see wartime-era signs and décor around the ordering area. It’s setup like an outdoor food court, where you can get your food and then head over to a nice garden area with some umbrellas and covered seating. You’ll find a Black bean burger, hamburger and onion straw cheeseburger, and a soup of the day on the menu here

Disney’s Hollywood Studios offers tons of amazing attractions, and lucky for you there are plenty of places to grab a quick bite so that you can get right back to enjoying the action! I personally love Starring Roles Café and everything about it – but I would love to know what you think – where do you like to grab a counter service meal while at DHS?

Stay tuned for more places to grab a grab a quick bite in the World!

Recreating the magic winner

Disney asked grandparents and parents to share a Disney Parks memory and picture from the 70’s or 80’s. The winner has been announced and it is Grandmother Rebecca Ackley, she won the “Recreate the Magic” contest with the picture above, she calls it“Goofy looking hair for grandma.”

Rebecca gets to go Disney World Resort with her husband of 31 years, her kids and grand-kids. This trip will be extra special for Rebecca because she has recently been undergoing chemotherapy treatments. She said another family photo with Goofy, Chip and Dale would make life “grand” for this grandmother.

We wish her continued success with her chemo treatments and a magical vacation!

Top 7 Reasons to Love Main Street USA

0310ZV 0356MSb 742x412
0310ZV 0356MSb 742x412

Main

Okay, I’m the first to admit that I’m a bit biased, having previously been a Main Street USA Cast Member, but the first of the six lands is really a magical place and has a lot more to offer than just amazing views of the castle. Take some time on your next Disney trip to explore all that the turn of the century has to offer.

  • Shopping!
    • Main Street is the mecca for shopping at the Magic Kingdom. There is the Emporium, which is the largest shop in the Magic Kingdom and has everything that you could ever want from pins to Princess Attire. Across the street from the Emporium is my favorite, Uptown Jewelers. Here, you can find Dooney and Bourke Disney bags, Chamilia Beads, diamond and gold jewelry, and artist figurines such as Lenox and Jim Shore. Next store to Uptown Jewelers is Arribas Bros. which is a Disney staple on any trip. Stop in to marvel at the amazing glass creations, have a beautiful glass or goblet personalized with your name, or watch a free, live glass blowing demonstration.
  • Food and Sweets
    • If you are a total foodie like me, or just enjoy a crazy good ice cream sundae from the Plaza Ice Cream Parlor, then Main Street has you covered! My absolute must do on any Disney vacation is to spend a considerable amount of time at the Confectionery drooling over the display case and sampling all the delectable options. Cotton candy is made fresh each day, and if you are lucky enough to be in the shop while a batch is being spun, hang out by the candy maker and they may just offer you a sample! Ready for lunch? Head to Casey’s Corner; a baseball themed quick service restaurant that serves some amazing hot dogs, and is one of my favorite quick service locations in the Magic Kingdom. Next time you are visiting, stop in and grab some grub before you watch one of the parades that march down Main Street. Speaking of parades, that brings me to….
  • “Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It!”
    • “Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party features new music and characters and new ways for Walt Disney World Resort guests to become part of the show at Magic Kingdom. Following a parade down Main Street, U.S.A., guests are invited to join Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Goofy and their Disney pals for a dance party in front of Cinderella Castle. Guests also can vote on the music playlist and share their photos with #MoveItShakeItPics for a special finale moment. The “Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party is presented several times daily at the theme park. – See more at: http://wdwnews.com/photos/2014/10/23/move-it-shake-it-dance-play-it-street-party-at-magic-kingdom/#sthash.GHMgWRvo.dpuf
  • Main Street Trolley Show
    • Another can’t miss entertainment opportunity is the Main Street Trolley Show. The trolley travels all the way down Main Street for turn of the century characters to dance and sing their way through the street. The songs and costumes of this show change with the seasons, so there is always a fresh take to the classic performance.
  • Main Street Celebrities
    • Of course, Mickey Mouse himself can often be found at the Town Square Theatre, but you may be lucky enough to spot some of Main Street’s own celebrities wandering around. You may have the chance to meet the Mayor of Main Street USA, the Mayor’s Wife, reporter Scoop Sanderson, or check out the Dapper Dan’s performing outside one of the shops. While these folks do not have a meet and greet line, they are usually able to stop for a quick chat and photo!
  • The History
    • Main Street USA was Walt’s vision of a simpler time. A time when families could spend time together and take a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood. Modeled after the town Walt grew up in, at the turn of the century, you will take a journey through time as you walk toward the castle. Pay attention and you will notice that the streetlamps transition from gas to electric as you make your way down the street. As you walk down Main Street, take a look at the windows of the shops, they are cleverly covered with the names of the imagineers who helped to make Magic Kingdom come to life.
  • The Photo Opportunities
    • Anytime time of year Disney photos are stunning, but especially so during the Holidays. The park gets decked out for both Halloween and Christmas, and the most extravagant of these decorations are on Main Street USA. Take a couple minutes while waiting for the 3 o’clock parade to take some creative shots of the displays and try incorporating these into your own holiday decorations. What a great way to remember the festivities from year to year! For that iconic shot of your family with Cinderella Castle, there are PhotoPass photographers stationed all along Main Street and they are happy to take a photo with your own camera if you are not using Photopass or do not wish to purchase photographs.

What do you love about Main Street? Let us know in the comment box below.

College cheer and dance squads nationwide have the opportunity to earn a six-figure windfall for their college spirit program and come to Walt Disney World Resort to “Cheer On Your Disney Side” sponsored by ESPN working in collaboration with Disney Destinations and Varsity Spirit.

This week, college cheer and dance squads began competing in a nationwide competition by creating 30-second videos of a cheer or dance routine using remixed Disney Park attraction  music to show off their “Disney Side.” Video submissions are being accepted at Espn.com/CheerMagic through Nov. 10 with four finalists announced Dec. 11 on ESPN around the telecast of the Home Depot College Football Awards show at Walt Disney World Resort. Rules may be found at www.espn.com/CheerMagic.

Fans can get in on the action by voting for their favorite “Disney Side” cheer or dance routine from the four finalists. The winning squad will be announced January 12 on ESPN before the college football National Championship, the exciting culmination of the new College Football Playoff format on ESPN in which four semifinal teams will compete on New Year’s Day for the national title on Jan. 12 in Dallas.

The winning cheer or dance squad will earn a $100,000 grant from ESPN for its college spirit program and a team trip to Walt Disney World Resort.

This year, Disney Parks is encouraging people to show their “Disney Side”- their fun-loving adventurous side that laughs more, says “yes” more and just plain lives life to the fullest.

Disney Consumer Products and Marvel announced the debut of an annual national multi-platform campaign aimed at taking the Marvel brand to new heights — ‘Marvel Super Hero September.’ Launching this September, the month-long celebration will showcase what being a Super Hero is all about by encouraging the public to “Power Up Like a Marvel Super Hero.” This will be done through a supercharged lineup of retail partnerships, licensing partners, advertising, and online activations. The strategy will place a stake in the ground for the Marvel brand, celebrating the entertainment company’s rich 75 year history and its wide array of characters.

“Marvel Super Hero September is giving us the opportunity to assemble some of the very best of our licensees and retailers to showcase the power and reach of the Marvel brand,” said Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing, Disney Consumer Products. “This stands as one of the largest non-film campaigns in Marvel history and we’re looking forward to seeing how kids, fans, parents, and adults will celebrate their passion for Marvel.”

The central hub for ‘Marvel Super Hero September’ will be a new online portal called MarvelSuperHeroSeptember.com. The site will house Super Hero content and activities, including a national photo sweepstakes contest with the support of select national retailers. Marvel will also be re-launching Marvelkids.com to provide even more Super Hero content.

For the inaugural campaign, Marvel has lined up best-in-class retailers, including Walmart, Target, Kmart, Payless, Party City, Amazon and the Disney Store to feature unique ‘Marvel Super Hero September’ promotions, special offers and/or weekly in-store events. These events will include Walmart Retailtainment Day on September 20th, in-store photo contests at Party City stores, and the Kmart flagship store near Madison Square Garden in New York City with media partner Radio Disney. Additionally, Disney Store locations across the U.S. will be hosting a Marvel Super Hero event once a week. Guests can learn how to draw Captain America’s shield and Spider-Man’s mask, as well as participate in a Marvel trivia challenge, Avengers Assemble Showtime and Ultimate Spider-Man Great Power Store Time. All participants will receive a free Marvel Super Hero mask. These retailers will be supported by a robust merchandising program led by Hasbro.

To shine a bright light on the initiative, Marvel will execute a print and online advertising campaign that will appear in the College Football and September NFL Preview issues of ESPN Magazine. These ads will also run on ESPNmagazine.com for the first two weeks of September and help reinforce Marvel’s interest in healthy living and active lifestyles for children. A full page “Guardians of The Galaxy” advertorial detailing announcement promotions and character content will also be featured in Marvel Super Hero Magazine.

Beyond traditional advertising avenues, Hasbro has developed an “in-theater” campaign feature to, highlight its newest products, including Spider-Man and Captain America role play items, and provide a salute to ‘Marvel Super Hero September.’ Additionally, a one page Hasbro ad will be included in Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier Blu-Ray/DVD insert, providing product and campaign details.

‘Marvel Super Hero September’ will take to the airwaves on Disney XD through a national broadcast campaign, dedicated to the launch of Marvel’s Ultimate Spider-Man Web-Warriorsand the season two premiere of Marvel’s Avengers Assemble animated series.

Those looking for Marvel comic books, graphic novels, and other related merchandise, can go to comicshoplocator.com. For Marvel Super Hero September offerings, visit your local mass and specialty retailers, as well as Disney Store and Disneystore.com.

Deadmau5 VS. Disney

Deadmouse
Deadmouse

dm

You may have heard about the legal brawl going on between Deadmau5 and Disney. Disney is suing Deadmau5  because his logo is to close to their mouse ears logo. So they are trying to block him for getting a trademark for his logo in this country. Keep in mind that Deadmau5 has been around for about 10 years and Disney has not had an issue with it until now.

Deadmau5 already has his logo tradmarked in 30 other countries.

Deadmau5 doesn’t seem to be bothered by the suit he reportedly said he won’t be bullied and is ready to fight.

What do you think?
