Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!

The Media Preview of “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” was held a few days ago at the Magical Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California.  I took the grand kids and arrived to see the Marquee at the Snow White Theatre taken over by Frozen.  As much as I LOVE Frozen I am not sure I was happy with this site as it is the one and only Snow White Theatre!   We found our seats along with the rest of the media, secure the drinks and opened our popcorn ready for the movie to start.

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day starts off with the scene where the family is driving back home in their demolished van and looking like they have just had the worst day ever.  The scene then shifts to the previous day, the eve of Alexander’s 12 birthday.

Alexander wakes up to start his day with gum stuck in his hair and a school rival throwing a party the same night as Alexander’s.   From there his day goes from bad to worse,  trying to impress his secret crush – Becky (Sidney Fullmer) results in a small fire in the science lab at school,  pictures of Alexander’s face superimposed on a girl’s body goes viral on the social pages.  At home that night, Alexander (Ed Oxenbould) can’t make his perfect family understand his bad day as Dad Ben (played by Steve Carell), Mom Kelly (Jennifer Garner) and siblings Anthony (Dylan Minnette), Emily (Kerris Dorsey) and Baby Trevor (Elise & Zoey Vargas) all share the wonderful and exciting news of their day.  Dad has an interview the next day at a video game company, Mom is promoting a new book for her agency, Emily is playing Peter Pan in the school play and Anthony and his girlfriend, Celia (Bella Thorne) are planning their prom.

Frustrated about the difference in his day and this family’s Alexander makes himself a birthday sundae at midnight and makes a wish asking that his family experience a bad day just like the ones he has.

The next day, Alexander wakes up to see his family go through one catastrophe after another.  From Dad’s interview gone wrong to Baby Trevor’s adventures with a green marker to Mom’s mad dash through town on a bicycle due to car troubles, the Coopers are getting a taste of what a very bad day can really mean.  As for the siblings, Anthony’s girl friend, Celia is giving him attitude about the prom and a mistake with his tux as well as a hilarious adventure during his driving test to get his license are ruining Anthony’s day.  While Emily has woken up with a cold and after taking too much cough medicine, has serious mishaps during the school play, giving us some of the best parts of the movie.

Alexander for once is having a good day but suffering from the realization that his birthday wish may have been the reason his family is cursed.  The disasterous day ends with the family coming home to Alexander’s birthday party in the back yard – an Australian themed birthday complete with a petting zoo and G-rated cowboys from Thunder down under and the realization that no matter how bad your day is, sticking together as a family can make everything better.

Based on the book by Judith Viorst, Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day is released in theatres this Friday, October 10, 2014.  Do not miss this funny and heartwarming family movie with a great soundtrack that will have you smiling and humming all the way home.

"NEW YORK BRIDAL FASHION WEEK"

Alfred Angelo, America’s oldest and foremost bridal company, today introduced its 2015 Disney Fairy Tale Weddings bridal collection. The latest line includes dresses inspired by eight of the Disney Princess characters and a highly anticipated bridal gown inspired by Elsa from Disney’s Frozen.

The Disney Fairy Tale Weddings bridal collection by Alfred Angelo offers modern brides a fantasy bridal collection inspired by the essence, style and personality of their favorite Disney Princess and Disney Frozen characters. Known for their exquisite silhouettes, rich fabrications and elegant details, the collection is designed to connect to every bride’s inner princess.

In 2015, Alfred Angelo is bringing the bridal collection to life with a new dimension of design; the magnificence of color. Each gown will be available in ivory and a signature color inspired by each iconic character.

“Along with the silhouettes and embellishments of each gown, color gives us another way to bring the magic of Disney’s imagined storytelling to life and allow brides to express their individuality on their special day,” says Michele Piccione, Chief Creative Officer and family member at Alfred Angelo.

The 2015 Disney Fairy Tale Weddings bridal collection by Alfred Angelo includes dresses inspired by:

  • Ariel- An independent spirit, Ariel inspires a gown that offers a splash of the unexpected for the unconventional bride who loves adventure. The flared gown has been crystal-beaded throughout to sparkle like treasures from the deep, while the dramatic skirt has been layered with glitter net to shimmer like sunlight on the waves.
  • Aurora- Romantic and graceful, Aurora exemplifies elegance and warmth. Classic princess details abound in this feminine, romantic gown that is highlighted with crystal-beaded lace and diaphanous draped tulle accented with the princess’ signature bloom, the rose.
  • Belle- Belle is as smart as she is beautiful, and represents the independent, sophisticated woman. With its layers of draped gossamer tulle, soft beaded flowers and a fully crystal-beaded bodice that illuminates with the lights of a thousand ballroom candles, this gown is the quintessential fairy tale princess.
  • Cinderella- Elegant and kind, Cinderella is gracious, poised, and charming. Glistening like the light off of a delicate glass slipper, the hand-beaded yoke is as timeless and sophisticated as the princess herself. Clean lines and the classic ball gown silhouette exude a bride who is independent and empowered, all while embracing tradition.
  • Jasmine- Bold, adventurous and daring, Jasmine is a sultry beauty with a bohemian spirit. This modern jumpsuit with a detachable train, sheer back yoke and crystal beading that sparkles like stars in an Arabian night, this gown is for a bride who is daring and self-assured.
  • Rapunzel- Passionate and courageous, Rapunzel exemplifies a unique artistic vision. Covered in handmade wildflowers, this romantic cage-style gown evokes a sense of optimism and joy in its easy, graceful movement. The flowers have been beaded to sparkle like lanterns in the sky for a touch of offbeat whimsical charm.
  • Snow White- Full of gentle grace and compassion, Snow White’s inner beauty makes her “the fairest of them all.” The crystal-beaded waistline, handmade rose and cathedral train makes this gown the perfect choice for celebrating a day of “happily ever after.”
  • Tiana- Ambitious, confident, and determined, Tiana is the sophisticated bride who likes a touch of jazzy fun. This strapless gown sparkles with the glitter and excitement of New Orleans and is adorned throughout with delicate embroidery and crystal beading that is reminiscent of the princess’ signature flower, the lily.

This season Alfred Angelo will also debut the highly-anticipated gown inspired by Elsa from Disney’s Frozen. Reminiscent of Elsa’s “Snow Queen” dress, the ice-blue softly flared sheath gown has been dramatically beaded to glisten like sunlight on fresh fallen snow. The sweetheart neckline and dramatic Watteau train capture the essence of this bold and elegant character.

The 2015 Disney Fairy Tale Weddings bridal collection by Alfred Angelo will be available in January 2015 at Alfred Angelo stores in the U.S. and specialty retailers worldwide..

Seaworld’s Halloween Spooktacular

Seaworld kicked off it’s annual Halloween Spooktacular on October 4th, and it was filled with haunted fun! I was there early to enjoy the festivities and had a blast!

The underwater FantaSEA starts off not far from the entrance to the right, and wraps around the Bayside, and Shamu Stadiums. The entrance and exit to the spooky path have stands handing out free trick-or-treat bags for your under sea adventure. The bags were cute, and able to hold quite a bit of candy.

FullSizeRender_3

Heading out on the path was like walking into an undersea garden. Bubbles filled the air for a watery vibe, and colorful decorations resembling seaweed, jelly fish, coral, and pumpkin fish abounded all around. Every few yards or so you could find a candy station and a character meet and greet photo op. The meet and greet characters had amazing interaction with children and adults alike, many told elaborate stories or quirky jokes to keep the kids engaged. The candy stations formed 2 lines, to keep things organized and handed out an assortment of candies including Lemonheads, Tootsie Rolls, and fruit strips.

In addition to all the wonderful character greetings, and trick or treat stations, there’s also a Penelope’s Party Zone near Bayside Stadium where the little ones can do arts and crafts, Dance with Shamu and friends, play with the dancing fountains, and also check out an interactive station all included with the price of admission.

Pumpkin Craft Kit.

For a small additional cost your kids can decorate their own cookie at a covered kiosk. The price is $5.50 and includes a cookie decorating kit and choice of Milk or Juice. The kit comes in an orange bag and contains a large sugar cookie, icing, and bunches of Halloween themed candies to decorate with. My son loved creating his own cookie, and used every bit of icing. He didn’t use the sprinkles though because he decided to sneak a taste of them while I was setting up the candies.

Decorate your own Spooktacular cookie!

After enjoying the Fantasea path we then decided a cook off was in order and headed to the Sesame Street Countdown to Halloween stage show. I was impressed by this stage show, it was really designed to keep young toddlers and preschoolers engaged and entertained. When walking in you see the stage set up with a spooky Sesame street theme, and pumpkins dappled about featuring some of our favorite friends like the Count, Bert and Ernie. To make the wait easier on our younger attendees there’s a cute pre-show filled with some well known nursery rhymes that have been given a Halloween twist! The actual show was humorous and cute, and filled with the quality learning we’ve come to expect from Sesame Street.

This was a fantastic event, and a wonderful value since it’s included in the price of admission to Seaworld. The theming was SPOOKtacular and I loved that it was it’s own area and not spread across the entire park. We had so much fun we actually went through it twice. I can’t wait to go back next year, and the year after that, this is definitely a new family Halloween time tradition for us!

The sneakers aren’t yet cold from the last runDisney event weekend, and today on Twitter runDisney announced the 2015/16 even dates.

The runDisney twitter posted an infographic with the dates of the events, as well as the day of registration for each of the event. This schedule of events brings a bit of good news, and a bit of sad news. The good news is the Expedition Everest Event will be returning in 2015! The sad, is that the hugely beloved Tower of Terror 10 Miler weekend will not be making an appearance in 2015. The 2014 Tower of Terror 10 Miler was held on October 4th, and had an after party in Hollywood Studios featuring many Villains meet and greets. For a list of all of the 2015-2016 events you can check out the event graphic below.

I can’t wait for Expedition Everest, but I am a bit bummed about the Tower of Terror race, which races will you be attending next year?

Interview with Million Dollar Arm’s – J.B. Bernstein

MillionDollarArmBlurayDigitalCopy1

arm

I had the incredible opportunity to interview J.B. Bernstein, from Disney’s Million Dollar Arm movie.

Mr. Bernstein is the agent who along with his partners came up with the idea of putting together a Million Dollar Arm contest to find and recruit the next great baseball player.    Mr. Bernstein said the idea came to him over a period of time, and was inspired from watching the TV shows.

J.B. Bernstein shared his excitement and how hard it was to believe that “Disney Studios and their awarding winning team wanted to make a movie about our story – Rinku and Dinesh’s story”

I asked Mr. Bernstein where Dinesh and Rinku were in their careers and he shared that Dinesh went home in 2010 after playing 2 seasons and is now pursuing a career as a pitchcing instructor in India.   There are plans for the MLB to set up an academy in India as well.  As for Rinku, he continues to play AA and has a great shot at the majors.

Next I asked Mr. Bernstein what doors had opened for himself and the boys and what opportunities had they been able to take advantage of.   For the boys, it gave them the opportunity to not only be able to pursue a new life, but to go home and share with kids in their home country all they are able to do and give them hope to follow their dreams – “to serve as an example of what is possible”   Rinku and Dinesh also had the opportunity to meet President Obama and have their jersey archived in the presidential library.  For Mr. Bernstein,  meeting his wife Brenda and having a family and “a lot more notoritey” “his crazy ideas are more respected” after Million Dollar Arm was released.

Mr. Bernstein shared how although the movie side of Million Dollar Arm is done, the contest continues.  Now in its 3rd year starting this fall, running from November to June,  the contest has a life of its own and is something he and everyone involved are very proud of.  This year they expect to see 500,000 kids be a part of the contest nationwide in over 100 cities and 1000 colleges, HS campuses and parks.

Stay tuned for updates to the next Million Dollar Arm contest coming to a location near you.

Toontown to be replaced with Star Wars Land at Disneyland Resort?

toontown 1
toontown 1

toontown 1

Hello my lovelies it is I Anonymouse here. I have some juice Disneyland Gossip today…

So I heard some rumors last week about the possibility of Toontown in Disneyland being removed to make room for a new Star Wars Land!  Seems those rumors might be true!  I hear that they are not going to replace the Nemo Ride, as was previously discussed, because the water helps aid the air conditioning for the park and the Matterhorn water overflow necessitates it staying, at least for now.

As you know, Disneyland is fairly landlocked.  When Walt Disney purchased land for his “dream theme park” there were only so many acres of Orange groves available in Anaheim!  Enough land was purchased to create the two parks we have now, as well as three on property hotels – but as for much more expansion, it’s pretty limited.  Rumors of taking over Anaheim Garden Walk haven’t come to fruition yet, but honestly, there is just not much more room to expand outward from the current Disney owned property.

This being said, I hear from some reputable sources that Toontown is on it’s way out.  While it’s fun for the littlest of Disney guests, the real estate it occupies is said to be headed to turn into 3 Star Wars “planets” with one large and 2 smaller rides in each themed land!  CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?

Are you a HUGE Star Wars nerd like Anonymouse?  I hear that Star Tours is staying in Tomorrowland, but all other things Star Wars will be taking over Toontown!  This could possibly include Jedi Training, moving it from the Tomorrowland Terrace, as well.

What do you think of these changes?  Let me know.  I have to cut this short, I have a date with more of my Disney spies!

Star Wars Rebels Interview and Press Conference

20140927_140341 - Copy

Star Wars Rebels Press Conference was held in Beverly Hills to promote the new  the new Disney Series Premiere  which starts this Monday, October 13, 2014 on Disney XD.  (check local channel for time) . The series is set between the events that happened in Star Wars Episodes III and IV.

The press conference began with a visit from R2-D2 and C3-PO who entertained us while waiting for the event to begin.  In attendance at the conference were  Freddie Prinze Jr. (“Kanan”), Tiya Sircar (“Sabine”), Vanessa Marshall (“Hera”), Taylor Gray (“Ezra”),  Steve Blum (“Zeb”), Dave Filoni (Executive Producer)

Q: For the cast – Was there any pressure to play these roles and were you intimated by the roles?

A:  Freddie Prinze Jr. shared that for himself there was pressure.  because for him, “this was in your DNA” Growing up as a Star Wars fan, “you want to make it special and want people to remember you”.

Tiya Sircar did not feel the same kind of pressure as Freddie did because “I didn’t grow up as a girl playing Jedi but I also knew what I was getting into”

Q: Mr. Filoni was asked if he was a Star Wars fan?

A:  Dave Filoni responded how he did not consider himself a “fan” it was just something that started when he was born and he and his brother grew up with it as a part of their lives.   Although the movie is made for kids, the best compliment I get now about the Star Wars, is that “it’s something people watch with their whole family.

Q:  How far in advance are you provided with the storyline?

A:  Dave Filoni talked about how they are constantly changing things and re-writing scenes and situations, sometimes sending the script in with just general ideas.  Giving the cast the script most times the night before.   “it’s a very creative, evolutionary experience” making Star Wars.  Cast and crew need to adapt and they do.

Q:  For Freddie Prinze Jr. – Do you feel your acting is affected by just doing the voice?

A:  Freddie Prinze Jr.  joked about how he was old enough to remember when cable was invented and his first movie was Star Wars and said that in voice acting – at first he “felt handcuffed” and did not feel he was good at it.  But he started to get more comfortable and when you see other going for it, it helps.

Q:  What is your favorite trait about each of your characters, and for Freddie, who would win in a battle between Kanan Jarrus and Buffy the Vampire Slayer?

A:  Freddie Prinze Jr.: “Buffy probably has more experience than Kanan does in her career, BUT, she doesn’t have the Force”  “The Force pretty much trumps all.  Superman doesn’t mess with Jedi.”  Tiya Sircar shared a comment Prinze Jr. made “You once said something I really liked, he said “Buffy might be international but Star Wars is intergalactic!”

Vanessa Marshall: plays Hera Syndulla, “she’s the lead pilot and I would say her courage”.

Taylor Gray: is Ezra, “I like his self confidence. I think it’s a lot of fun”.

Freddie Prinze Jr: Kanan’s best quality is he’s hyper loyal. I see him as that one dog that follows you home and that appreciates the thing you did so he’s going to stick with you forever and if anyone comes in he’s gonna bite ya.  Hera is his master. He’s on a leash.

Tiya Sircar:”I play Sabine Wren, gosh I don’t think I have that one word but I think she’s really savvy and smart in a way that I feel honored to play a young female character that is so whips mart and she gets down to business. I really like that about her. She’s not concerned about the superficial.”.

Steve Blum: “I see Zeb as kind of a work in progress.  He’s a big dude, he’s a warrior but he’s got a lot of growth potential.”

Q:  For Freddie Prinze Jr or anyone else in the cast with young kids, how many cool points did you get for voicing your characters?

A:  Freddie Prinze Jr: said he tried to keep it a secret from his daughter, Charlotte, to keep the magic alive, but her friends at school found out and were all “HER DAD’S A JEDI, OH MY GOSH!” so she knows. I definitely gained some kid cool points when I picked up my daughter from school the boys would be all “you’re a jedi!” they think they know something.

Steve Blum: “My kids are in their 20’s and I got a lot of cred by doing this. It’s cool. They’re pretty excited”

Q: For the cast — Who is your favorite Star Wars character? And is it easier joining a franchise playing new characters or taking on our old favorites?

A:  Taylor Gray: I like Jabba the Hutt.  I also like Han Solo. Vanessa Marshall: I like Chewie. I have a soft spot for Chewie. female icon: Leia. Steve Blum: (as Zeb) Love Artoo, Hate Chopper. [laughs] Tiya Sircar: Getting to play Sabine I really appreciate so many things about Leia. but I really really love Han Solo. He’s hard not to love. (laughs)

Freddie Prinze Jr: The correct answer is Boba Fett (laughs and cheers). He’s the coolest. He’s the best.

Q:  for the cast —  We left off with the prequels, we were introduced to some dark themes, especially where we left off with the Clone Wars. The characters seem to have really dark back stories. What’s it like handling these darker themes in  a children’s show? Is it a hard balance to strike?

Dave Filoni: “I don’t think so. When you look at any classic fairy tale which has always been for kids, there’s some dark stuff going on. So rather then shy away from things that I think might be perceived as scary or dark or intense, I think there’s a tradition of storytelling that was always a way for kids to kind of learn about things that are bad or evil.

Freddie Prinze Jr: “And kids are sharp, man. Remember the movies that we saw when we were kids. I mean, The Never Ending Story wasn’t a feel-good feel-good, I mean but the horse dies! So it hurts and you have pain. The Wizard of Oz… I mean the witch is legit! But kids are smart, so I think the stakes need to be as real as they can be or they smell out fluff, man. Kids know. It needs to feel real to an adult for it to feel real to a kid.”

Steve Blum: “In the real world we’ve all had levels of dysfunction that we’ve grown up in or known somebody who’s had severe levels of dysfunction and I think its great that its addressed in this in that way. And it gives the opportunity for growth for my character and everybody. We’ve all been wronged by the Empire (laughs) in one way or another in real life and on the show and its always an opportunity to see that there is hope and it’s a great element to the show”

“Star Wars Rebels: series premieres on Disney XD beginning October 13 (9:00 p.m., ET/PT). and is produced by Dave Filoni, Simon Kinberg and Greg Weisman.

Don’t miss this exciting series on Disney XD

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day based on Judith Viorst’s book of the same title, is about the 2 day period of time between the day before and the day of Alexander’s 12th birthday.  Both days are full of chaos and mayhem, causing Alexander and his family to experience one disasterous event after another.  Yet through it all maintaining the fortitude to survive as a family who is always there for one another.

Here are some clips from the movie including one of my favorites, “Stop, Drop and Roll” as well as “xoxo”, “Effort on the potty” and finally “This day was cursed”.  Enjoy and don’t forget to hit the theatres on Friday, October 10th for the premiere of Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No good, very bad Day!
