On Sunday night, award-winning actor Neil Patrick Harris hosted The Oscars on ABC. So, where will his next big hosting gig take place? The Disneyland Resort!

NPH will be joining Mickey Mouse as host of the all-new “World of Color – Celebrate! The Wonderful World of Walt Disney,” opening May 22 at Disney California Adventure park as part of the Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Harris, a fan of Disney Parks, will bring his unique style of humor and charm to this special edition of the popular “World of Color” show.

“World of Color – Celebrate!” illuminates the night in a celebration of the unparalleled imagination of Walt Disney. Mickey Mouse and Harris will take guests on a fun-filled and inspirational journey, exploring Walt Disney’s decades-long legacy of memorable animated moments and his dream of Disneyland park, all culminating in a madcap musical tour of Disneyland Resort attractions as never seen before.

Since its premiere in 2010, “World of Color” has amazed millions of Disney California Adventure park guests using a groundbreaking “stage” of nearly 1 full acre of engineered superstructure, longer than a football field. Nearly 1,200 programmable fountains and a vast underwater grid with more than 20,000 points of control send water to heights of up to 200 feet; shooting higher than Mickey’s Fun Wheel. The show employs nearly 30 high-definition projectors to take the audience on a journey through some of Disney’s most beloved animated moments.

The all-new “World of Color – Celebrate!,” hosted by Mickey Mouse and Neil Patrick Harris, is just one part of the dazzling Disneyland Resort Diamond Celebration. Also debuting on May 22 will be the new “Paint the Night” parade and the fully-immersive, new “Disneyland Forever” fireworks spectacular.

Big Hero 6 DVD, Blu-ray Review

Big Hero 6

Big Hero 6

My family and I had the pleasure of reviewing Big Hero 6 (Blu-ray + DVD + Digital HD)Big Hero 6 DVD, Blu-ray Reviewthis weekend and all I can say is Outstanding! The movie is Adorable, Cute and fun for all ages. The way Baymax gets together to form a special bond with Hiro Hamada after a devastating turn of events that puts them right in the middle of a dangerous plot that’s unfolding in the streets of San Fransokyo. Hiro turns to Baymax and his “tech nerds” — Adrenaline junkie Go Go Tomago, neatnik Wasabi, chemistry whiz Honey Lemon and fanboy Fred — who transform into a band of unlikely heroes to save the day.

Now the protagonists of Big Hero 6 are not your typical super heroes, they don’t have any magical powers, they use technology and brain power as their super powers..

The DVD/Blu-ray comes with deleted scenes — two alternate openings and more, it is also filled with Easter Eggs (on the BLURAY ONLY).

Just for fun, the animators made alternate versions of scenes they were working on and threw them into the mix at review sessions. The directors will present some of these gags for the first time to the public in this piece. (DMA ONLY)

Also, check out some of Baymax’s greatest lines auto-tuned like you’ve never heard before. (DMA ONLY)

The DVD has these additional bonus features:

  • FEAST Theatrical Short
  • Big Animator 6: The Characters Behind the Characters
  • “Big Hero 6” Theatrical Teaser
  • Grappling Hook

The movie is truly fun for the whole family. My family and I have already watched it multiple times and even do Baymax and Hiro’s special handshake (you’ll have to see the movie to get it).. but I highly recommend it. It’s available on Disney Movie Anywhere already and the DVD/Blu-ray will hit the store shelves on February 24th.

Disney Movies Anywhere is also available on Google Play, for more info, visit ChipandCo.com

If you haven’t scene the movie yet, here’s a sneak peak to get you going.

Check out these cool posters that you can download by clicking below and you can get all of the style posters, which include Baymax, Hiro, Honey Lemon, Wasabi, Fred and Go Go Tomago:

New York City Runner Has Dreams Come True with Disney Princess Half Marathon Victory

0222ZV 0069PM 640x420

Princess

Lauren Passell battles back from broken hip in her first half marathon win; more than 24,000 mostly-women runners participate in royal 13.1-mile race through Walt Disney World.

One year after Lauren Passell feared she would never run again because of a broken hip, she found herself in another unlikely place Sunday – the winner’s circle at the Disney Princess Half Marathon presented by Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

Passell, 30, from New York City, slipped on some ice last winter, breaking her right hip and plunging her running future into serious doubt. “I didn’t think I’d ever run a race again,’’ she said.

Turns out, all she really needed was a little Disney magic.

“I was afraid actually (to run again) but this race really pulled me through,’’ said Passell, who couldn’t walk for four months after the injury, took disability leave from her job and didn’t run normally again for nearly a year. “When I was stuck on my couch (during her recovery), I would dream about running here, I would fantasize about it. I mean, for me to run through Disney, it means the world to me. I feel like the luckiest person in the world.’’

Passell, a self-described Disney nerd, didn’t appear to need much luck Sunday at Walt Disney World Resort, pulling away from the field of more than 24,000 mostly-women runners just after the midway point of the 13.1-mile course through Epcot and Magic Kingdom. Her winning time of 1:22:59 was nearly 30 seconds faster than second-place finisher Heather Schulz of Orlando (1:23:28). Mariela Ortiz of Argentina was third (1:23:45).

While Passell’s winning time was far off the race record of 1:11:49, it was easily her fastest half marathon time ever and her first half marathon win. And a performance that apparently holds the kind of special meaning that can’t be measured in hours, minutes and seconds.

“I seriously think I had that little extra push because of the injury and I just felt so driven and so lucky to be healthy and able to move,’’ she said. “It’s a blessing to be able to run and I appreciate it now. I really do.’’

In all, more than 49,500 runners competed in various events during the weekend. The weekend included the Disney Frozen 5K, the Disney Princess Enchanted 10K,runDisney Kids Races and the Glass Slipper Challenge, which involved runners completing the 10K on Saturday and the half marathon on Sunday.

The weekend event also included a health and fitness expo which featured the latest running apparel and equipment, plus a speaker series involving running experts such asrunDisney’s official training consultant Jeff Galloway.

The Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend is one of eight annual runDisney events and one of two women-focused events. The other is the Tinker Bell Half Marathon Weekend presented by PANDORA Jewelry, which takes place in May at Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, CA.  Both events are designed to celebrate and promote women’s empowerment, women’s health and an active lifestyle. And both are among the nation’s largest race weekends geared towards women.

Join the Crew from Frozen on the Disney Magic

Anna and Elsa DCL
Anna and Elsa DCL

Disney Cruise Line invites you and your family to explore culturally rich and exotic locations, with Port Adventures like only Disney can do, during its 2015 Norwegian Fjords sailings.

From June to August 2015, the Disney Magic returns to Europe, visiting the Norwegian Fjords and Iceland for the first time. Guests exploring these new ports, steeped in Viking history, will be treated to richly diverse destinations that showcase iconic locations, enchanting cultures, tantalizing cuisine and unrivaled experiences.

“Frozen” Festivities and Viking Ventures in Ålesund

For the first time in forever, Anna, Elsa and Kristoff from the animated hit “Frozen” join Disney Cruise Line guests in Ålesund, marking their very first appearance in the land that inspired their story. Only Disney guests are invited to a Norwegian summer celebration at the Sunnmøre Open Air Museum where the festivities culminate with the grand arrival of the beloved sisters and their ice-loving companion, Kristoff, who join in the lively revelry. After being personally greeted by their “Frozen” friends, and surrounded by the idyllic beauty of Norway, guests dance to local musicians and sample tasty Norwegian specialties, including svele, a traditional sweet pancake from the region.

Another Ålesund adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line includes a quest to a Viking village on the island of Giske, where guests head back in history to meet the village chieftain and experience the Viking world. Adventurers find themselves in the middle of daily Viking life and mingle with members of the Norse families, experiencing first-hand the traditions, authentic food and games that come with being a Viking. Guests also learn traditional Viking handiwork and put it to practice by crafting their own leather bags.

Iconic Fjord Horses in Olden

Guests travel from the quaint village of Olden on a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line, visiting a Norwegian Fjord Horse Center to experience one of the world’s oldest breeds and one of the country’s national symbols, the Norwegian Fjord Horse. The adventure includes an up-close look at the stallions, mares and foals in a tour of the stables. Guests also have an opportunity to interact with the horses and see these magnificent animals in action. This includes watching a dynamic riding performance and taking in the picturesque scenery during a carriage ride around the grounds.

A Taste of Norway in Kristiansand

For those with a culinary passion, a Port Adventure exclusive to Disney Cruise Line in centuries-old Kristiansand provides the perfect hands-on cooking experience. Guests don their aprons and create Nordic specialties first-hand, such as succulent wild game filets and krumkaker, a heavenly waffle cookie typically served around Christmastime. The experience culminates with guests enjoying their sumptuous meal paired with a glass of wine.

The Great Outdoors of Geiranger

From the port of Geiranger, crowning jewel of the Norwegian fjords, comes an experience just for Disney Cruise Line guests – a visit to the Gjaera Mountain Farm where the local family provides an up-close look at daily life. Children join Disney Cruise Line youth counselors to create one-of-a-kind stamped pillows in the farm’s printing studio using handmade wooden stamps that have been passed down through the family’s many generations. Meanwhile, adults explore the farm and its microbrewery, sampling fresh brews. After building up an appetite, everyone reunites for a taste of traditional Norwegian foods produced at the farm including juices, breads, creams and cured meats.

Another journey brings Disney Cruise Line guests to the Herdalsetra Mountain Farm, where on the way to a nearby scenic valley they will enjoy a spectacular view of the Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall made famous in Norwegian folklore. Guests tour the enchanting farm brimming with 30 farmhouses and more than 450 sprightly goats scampering around the property. They also sample the farm’s fresh cheeses including Norway’s famous brown cheese – similar to sweet fudge.

Those looking for even more adventure will find it kayaking through the Geirangerfjord. Gliding over dazzling turquoise waters, guests will get an up-close look at stunning waterfalls roaring down into the fjord and the majestic mountains along the water’s edge.

Folk Dancing and Discovery in Molde

Outside of Molde, the “town of roses,” Disney Cruise Line guests arrive for an afternoon at one of the largest folk museums in Norway, the Romsdal Open Air Museum, which encompasses more than 50 buildings. Guests explore the century-old property, including lush gardens, farmhouses, smokehouses and a chapel, and experience a spirited performance of Norwegian folk dancing featuring local children in traditional regional outfits.

“The Land of Fire and Ice”—Reykjavik, Iceland

Only Disney Cruise Line families can get “fired up” during an exhilarating trip to the edge of a local lava field that gives adventurers an up-close look at volcanic craters and lava fields that make up the country of Iceland. Families take part in an art workshop on the edge of the hardened lava field, using real lava to create their very own framed lava art.

Classic “can’t miss” Icelandic landmarks take center stage on the tour of The Golden Circle. On this visit to some of Iceland’s most iconic attractions, guests will explore a national park, a glittering waterfall, popping hot springs and a high-tech geothermal energy exhibition. Over a barbecue lunch in the woods offered exclusively to Disney Cruise Line guests, troll wife Gryla and her helpers tell the legend of troll giant Bergthor of Bláfell, whose exceptionally large grave, headstone and ring from his walking stick can be found in a nearby churchyard.

That sounds amazing!

Ryan Potter Chats with Chip and Co about Big Hero 6

M2 0187
M2 0187

Ryan Potter - Hiro Hamada

Loretta Garcia, your favorite west coast entertainment reporter for Chip and Co here to share my chat with Ryan Potter from Big Hero 6.  Ryan who plays Hiro in the movie is a wonderful young man who is funny and full of spunk.  I spoke with Ryan about his part in Big Hero 6.

First I asked about how he was chosen for the role, to which Ryan said, it was a long process as Disney was searching church groups, schools and a number of other areas to find the perfect real live Hiro Hamada.   A director that had previously worked with Ryan knew Disney folks and told them about  a Japanese / American actor.    Ryan met with Don Hall and it was an instant vibe due to the mutual love of Japanese pop culture.  The character was already designed and Don looked at the character and at Ryan and both thought hmmm. They “spent about an hour talking and creating what Hiro might be” and a few weeks later, Ryan was offered the part.

In talking about Ryan’s background and experience. he shared how Hiro is raised in Sanfransokyo and Ryan grew up in San Francisco and Tokyo.  Ryan talked about the diversity of the characters in the movie and how he understood both locations and how the character grew up.   Having an older brother helped Ryan as well.  “It’s almost scary how similar, Hiro and I are”   Ryan said “he (Hiro) was much smarter than I”   Hiro is a great representation of who Ryan was at 13, 14..not a robotics prodigy but other than that, the character and Hiro’s personality is very similar.

In talking about being Hiro, Ryan gave a great example about how when Hiro first flies, Ryan took his memory and experience from when he first rode a bike and used it.   Just like when Hiro, loses Tadashi, Ryan relied on his personal feelings losing a family member.    I shared that for me, personally, this confirmed what I saw where  Ryan did not just play a character but instead the story appeared to be his life.   Ryan said he “really wasn’t acting, but just playing a younger version of myself.”

My final question was, of course.  are we going to be seeing a Big Hero 6 part 2?  Ryan laughed and said he was kept in the dark like the rest of us about that and mentioned it was “hard to say because the film stands on its own and doesn’t necessarily need more, but on the other hand, the world of Big Hero 6 is so massive.”   Ryan said “being able to voice Hiro again, would be more wish fulfillment” on his part.

My final question was what message did Ryan want to send out about Big Hero 6 to his fans?  Ryan said it was the message about “being honest and not having to change your personality because it’s not cool or socially acceptable.  Hiro is a 13 year old in college and maybe not socially up to par…”  Ryan continued saying the movie screamed it and he wanted kids all over the world to just be yourself.  Not everyone looks the same and the movie gives an honest representation of how the US looks and the modern world is the same as the cast.  Ryan concluded by saying he would like to tell everyone that although it “sounds corny, but to be brutally honest and be yourself.”

Loretta Garcia, entertainment writer for chipandco.com reminding you that Big Hero 6 comes out in Blu-ray on February 24, 2015.   Have you ordered your copy yet?

Star Wars Weekends makes it’s big return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios every Friday, Saturday and Sunday from May 15-June 14, 2015.

During this galactic event, you can encounter out-of-this-universe entertainment, favorite attractions and more!

James Arnold Taylor, the voice of Obi-Wan Kenobi on “Star Wars: The Clone Wars,” will return to host the Stars of the Saga talk show – including everyone’s favorite stormtrooper pre-show at a new larger location in the Theater of the Stars on Sunset Boulevard.

Darth’s Mall is moving to a new and expanded complex near Streets of America where you can find Star Wars-themed and exclusive event merchandise just for Star Wars Weekends 2015.

Plus, Star Wars characters assemble and “Summon the Force” each night for a grand celebration, including a look back at greatest moments throughout the day on social media.

And, at the end of the day, the night sky will erupt in an interstellar frenzy of fireworks as “Symphony in the Stars” salutes the saga’s most dramatic stories.

Wishing you Faith, Trust, and Pixie Dust

After you select your travel dates, the next step is to decide where to stay at Disneyland Paris!!  There are a number of options, suited to fit almost every budget.  The Disneyland Paris hotels are grouped into “Keys”, with 2 Key being the least expensive and 5 Keys being the most expensive.  Let’s dig a little deeper into the hotels!!

5 Key – Disneyland Hotel – Consider this the flagship Disneyland Paris resort!  This resort offers the best in Disney quality, service, hospitality, and location- in fact, it’s right at the entrance of Disneyland Park!  Here you will find family rooms, 24-hour room service, a Piano Bar, two restaurants, the Celestia Spa, free Wi-Fi and the ability to walk to both Disney Parks and the Disney Village.  Kids ages 4-11 can also go to Club Minnie, which is a supervised playroom where kids can play while you relax.  There are also club level amenities.  The Disneyland Hotel is the best of the best!

4 Key – Disney’s Hotel New York – This deluxe hotel offers sky-high service and larger than life decor!  You will be able to find club level amenities, along with a bar and two restaurants.  An indoor and outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, steam bath, fitness room, and tennis courts can be found at the Downtown Athletic Club, located on-site.  24-hour room service and free Wi-Fi are also available, along with an arcade for the kids.  This hotel is about a 10 minute walk from the Disney Parks and Disney Village, or just a few minutes via the free shuttle.

3 Key – Disney’s Newport Bay Club and Disney’s Sequoia Lodge – Disney’s Newport Bay Club is a nautical inspired resort.  Here you will find free Wi-Fi, one restaurant and one bar, along with indoor and outdoor pools, a hot tub, sauna, and fitness room.  For the kids, there is a children’s corner next to the bar, where parents can keep an eye on the kids while they continue to burn off energy!  This resort is about a 15 minute walk to the parks and Disney Village or a few minutes via the free shuttle.  Disney’s Sequoia Lodge salutes nature in all her majesty.  Here you will find solid wood furniture and relaxation by the glowing fireplace.  Two restaurants and a bar can be found at this hotel, along with an indoor and outdoor pool, whirlpool, sauna, and fitness room.  An indoor children’s corner and outdoor play area can also be found, along with free Wi-Fi in each room.  The Sequoia Lodge also features club level amenities and is a short walk from the parks and Disney Village as well.

3 Key – Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne and Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe – Disney’s Hotel Cheyenne takes you back to an authentic Western town and gives a true Frontierland experience!  Disney’s Hotel Santa Fe takes you to America’s South West, along Route 66.  Each hotel offers one restaurant and one bar, and the hotel is about a 20 minute walk to the parks and Disney Village, or a few minutes away via the free shuttle.  Free Wi-Fi can also be found at the hotel bar and lobby.  Kids can play at the arcade or outdoor play area.    One thing to note about the 2 Key hotels:  THERE ARE NO POOLS AND NO AIR-CONDITIONING!!  So keep this in mind if traveling during the summer!!

Disney’s Davy Crockett Ranch is an experience in and of itself.  Here you will stay in a woodland cabin and relax in this rustic atmosphere.  All the cabins have a living room, kitchen with refrigerator and appliances, crockery and utensils, coffee maker, and barbecue.  A shop can be found offering food selections to allow you to eat in your cabin.  One restaurant and one bar is located on site, and free Wi-Fi is available at each of these locations.  An indoor pool with waterfall and hot tub, along with tennis and basketball courts provide recreation options.  There is no shuttle service from this hotel, so you would have to drive to the Disney Parks and Disney Village.  Kids will enjoy the outdoor Indian camp with teepees, television, and stories on the radio.  You can also take your vacation to the next level with the Treetop Adventure Trail, where you will find yourself climbing, swinging, and jumping for joy on this canopy tour.  The Ranch is located about 15 minutes away, via car, from the parks.

There are also off-site options available, if you are looking for a different experience.
