Prehistoric Garden Roars to Life at EPCOT’s 2025 Flower & Garden Festival

If you’re exploring the outer reaches of World Discovery at EPCOT this spring, you may notice a lush corner that transports you straight back to the age of dinosaurs. That’s because the Prehistoric Garden—a fan-favorite addition to the festival’s Global Gardens—has officially returned for the 2025 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, this time in a brand-new location.

A New Spot Between Two Cosmic Adventures

In previous years, the Prehistoric Garden sat front-and-center near Mission: SPACE. For 2025, you’ll find it in a triangle-shaped planter nestled between Mission: SPACE and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. The new location offers ample space for the garden’s striking foliage and hidden Jurassic surprises—plus, it gives curious visitors a fresh spot to discover this time-traveling exhibit as they journey through the festival.

Ancient Plants and Dino-Era Details

The Prehistoric Garden features greenery that’s been around for millions of years, such as cycads, ferns, and mosses—some of the very same species that once formed vast forests during the Mesozoic Era. Today, these primordial plants form the perfect setting for dinosaur-inspired décor:

  • Colorful Dinosaur Figures
Throughout the garden, keep an eye out for small plastic dinos in vibrant hues. They pop against a backdrop of mostly green and brown foliage, making them great fun for little paleontologists-in-training.
  • Fossil-Like Props
Look closely among the stones and you’ll find embedded “fossils”—complete with skulls, claws, and entire dino skeletons. These whimsical additions highlight the link between Earth’s ancient past and our modern fascination with dinosaurs.

Hands-On Displays and Planters

Larger black bowl planters showcase an array of prehistoric plants and ornamental rocks. The festival team has created an immersive layout, with driftwood accents and layered greenery in every corner. Expect to see:

  • Towering Tree Canopies
Providing shade and scale, these tall trees frame the space, reminding you just how vast primeval forests once were.
  • Layered Ferns and Mosses
Ferns spill from tall planters, while mossy patches bring subtle texture to the overall design.
  • Strategic Signage
While the official signage may still be on its way, you can be sure that once installed, it’ll detail the significance of these ancient plants and the role they played in shaping the Earth’s ecosystems.

More Festival Fun Nearby

Of course, the Prehistoric Garden isn’t the only highlight awaiting nature enthusiasts this year. The 2025 EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival runs March 5 to June 2, brimming with:

  • Topiary Displays
Iconic Disney and Pixar characters are reimagined in vibrant plant sculptures around the park.
  • Outdoor Kitchens
Savor seasonal flavors and creative cuisine with exclusive festival food booths throughout World Showcase and beyond.
  • Concert Series
The Garden Rocks Concert Series offers live music at the America Gardens Theatre on select dates—perfect for rounding out a day of exploration.

To see the Prehistoric Garden in all its Jurassic glory, remember that a valid admission to EPCOT is required, and depending on your ticket type, you may need a park reservation. Once you’re in, head over to World Discovery and look for that triangular planter between Mission: SPACE and Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. You’ll know you’ve found it when ancient foliage and hidden dinos start to catch your eye!

Whether you’re a horticulture buff, a dinosaur aficionado, or simply looking for the latest Instagram-worthy display, the newly located Prehistoric Garden is a must-see. Make sure to stop by, snap some photos, and learn a few fun facts about the plants that shared the planet with T. rex. After all, discovering relics of the past in a futuristic theme park is about as EPCOT as it gets!

Disney Updates Pixar’s Elio Release Schedule

Disney Updates Pixar's Elio Release Schedule 3
Disney Updates Pixar's Elio Release Schedule 3

Pixar’s “Elio” Shifts Release Date to June 20, 2025

In a recent scheduling shuffle, Disney has postponed the highly anticipated Pixar film Elio by one week, moving its release from June 13 to June 20, 2025. Historically, Pixar titles have often rolled out closer to Father’s Day weekend, but this shift means Elio will now arrive opposite the adult-oriented zombie sequel 28 Years Later, rather than competing directly with Universal/DreamWorks’ live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon.

Why the Change?

Disney Updates Pixar's Elio Release Schedule 2

This move is all about strategy. By pushing Elio one week later, Disney avoids a head-to-head clash in the family-friendly space with the highly anticipated live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon. The new date also gives breathing room to Disney’s live-action Lilo & Stitch (debuting May 23), ensuring that Elio can shine as the sole Pixar event of the early summer season. There’s still a healthy gap before the next big Disney tentpole, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, slated for July 25.

Additionally, Elio stands out as the only animated wide release sandwiched between Looney Tunes (March 14) and Smurfs (July 18). That prime window could grant Pixar’s latest adventure the spotlight it needs to attract audiences throughout the start of the summer.

A Look at “Elio”

While fans await its big-screen debut, Pixar’s Elio promises to deliver a comedic journey into the unknown. Centered on an alien-obsessed boy, Elio gets pulled into the “Communiverse,” a bustling hub of intelligent life from across the galaxy. Mistaken as the leader of Earth, Elio has to quickly forge new friendships, sort out an impending intergalactic crisis, and, in the process, live out the cosmic adventure he’s always dreamed of.

Disney Updates Pixar's Elio Release Schedule 1

Key Details:

  • Cast:
    • Yonas Kibreab as Elio
    • Zoe Saldaña as Aunt Olga
    • Remy Edgerly as Glordon
    • Brad Garrett as Lord Grigon
    • Jameela Jamil as Ambassador Questa
    • Shirley Henderson as OOOOO
  • Directors: Madeline Sharafian, Domee Shi, Adrian Molina
  • Producer: Mary Alice Drumm
  • Genre: Animation, Comedy
  • Rating: Not Yet Rated

Behind the Scenes

Elio draws on the storytelling talents of several notable Pixar veterans. Domee Shi, who helmed the Academy Award®–winning short “Bao” and directed “Turning Red,” joins Madeline Sharafian (director of the Pixar SparkShort “Burrow”) and Adrian Molina (co-screenwriter and co-director of “Coco”) in the director’s chair. Produced by Mary Alice Drumm (associate producer on “Coco”), Elio merges fresh voices with seasoned Pixar expertise, hinting at a visually stunning, character-driven escapade in outer space.

Maharajah Jungle Trek’s Bat Exhibit to Temporarily Close for Refurbishment

If you’re planning a trip to Disney’s Animal Kingdom in early 2025, heads up: the popular bats exhibit along the Maharajah Jungle Trek will be undergoing a short refurbishment. According to the Walt Disney World Resort website, the bat area will close on February 17, 2025, with plans to reopen in early March 2025. Though this portion of the trail will be unavailable to guests, the rest of the Maharajah Jungle Trek will remain open, giving guests plenty of opportunities to spot creatures like Komodo dragons, gibbons, and of course, the park’s headline-making tigers.

Why the Maharajah Jungle Trek Is a Must-Do

Related: Bakso the Baby Tiger Cub Has the Longest Wait at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Baby Bakso

Located in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Maharajah Jungle Trek offers a self-guided walking tour through lush forests, dramatic ruins, and immersive habitats. It’s become even more popular thanks to the debut of Bakso, a Sumatran tiger cub born in September 2024. Bakso first ventured onto the trail in January 2025, quickly capturing hearts and drawing crowds eager to see one of the newest members of the park’s animal family. Whether you’re trekking across towering footbridges or ducking into the open-air aviary, there’s no shortage of breathtaking encounters with exotic wildlife.

Spotlight on the Malayan Flying Fox

One of the most fascinating inhabitants of the trek is the Malayan flying fox, also called the large flying fox—one of the world’s biggest bat species with wingspans that can stretch up to six feet. Unlike many other bats that navigate with echolocation, these fruit enthusiasts rely on keen eyesight and a powerful sense of smell. Their penchant for snacking on fruit helps scatter seeds throughout the forest, playing a vital part in reforestation and the overall health of their ecosystem.

Enriching Bats’ Lives at Disney

Disney’s animal care experts work diligently to simulate the bats’ natural environment, incorporating rope structures, fruit-laden branches, and plenty of room for roosting. Because the large flying fox can eat up to half its body weight in fruit daily, the caretakers offer a variety of produce—everything from bananas to cucumbers—to keep them happy and healthy. During the temporary refurbishment, animal care teams will likely use the downtime to perform needed habitat upgrades and enhancements.

Ongoing Conservation Efforts

Beyond simply showcasing these marvelous creatures, The Walt Disney Company has a broader commitment to conservation. Through the Disney Conservation Fund, the park supports global initiatives to protect bat populations and combat misconceptions about them. While bats often get a bad rap due to folklore and superstition, Malayan flying foxes (and bats in general) are indispensable to the planet’s ecosystems, serving as pollinators and seed dispersers in the wild.

Plan Your Visit

If you want to see the flying foxes in action, be sure to drop by before February 17, 2025, or wait until their exhibit reopens in March. In the meantime, the rest of the Maharajah Jungle Trek remains a top attraction—especially for anyone hoping to catch a glimpse of baby Bakso or snap photos of the region’s striking array of birds. No matter when you choose to visit, the trek offers a truly immersive experience that blends natural wonder with Disney magic.

DeSantis Names Three New Faces to Central Florida’s Tourism Oversight Board

Florida’s Central Florida Tourism Oversight District (CFTOD), the improvement district in which the Walt Disney World Resort resides, is on the brink of another shake-up. Governor Ron DeSantis has tapped Alexis Yarbrough, John Gilbert, and Scott Workman to join the board that oversees the area around Walt Disney World. All three appointments require Florida Senate approval, and Yarbrough has been chosen to serve as chair once confirmed.

This announcement arrives as two current board members, Ron Peri and Bridget Ziegler, near the end of their terms in February 2025. Depending on whether they’re reappointed, their seats may soon go to the new nominees, who would serve through 2027.

Meet the Appointees

Alexis Yarbrough
Named as chair (pending confirmation), Yarbrough has previously led the Broward College District Board of Trustees and been part of the Fourth District Court of Appeal Judicial Nominating Commission. With a legal background — a bachelor’s from the University of Miami and a law degree from Nova Southeastern University — she’s poised to steer the board through its next chapter.

John Gilbert
Gilbert’s real estate roots run deep. As the Executive Managing Director at Stream Realty Partners, he’s garnered accolades from commercial real estate organizations for his brokerage work in the Orlando market. A Florida State University alum, Gilbert brings both an insider’s view of the Orlando property scene and a knack for business strategy.

Scott Workman
Owner of Workman Transportation and Workman Travel, Workman has over two decades of hands-on experience in Orlando’s travel and tourism industry. An alumnus of the University of Iowa, he’s built a career in transportation, a key element of Central Florida’s tourism infrastructure.

Shifting the Power Balance

Once in place, the trio would join the existing Central Florida Tourism Oversight District board lineup of Charbel Barakat, Brian Aungst, Jr., Ron Peri, and Bridget Ziegler. With the confirmed addition of Yarbrough, Gilbert, and Workman, the board’s membership would tilt further toward DeSantis appointees. The possibility of Peri or Ziegler cycling out in 2025 amplifies this shift, underscoring the governor’s ongoing campaign to shape the district’s leadership.

A Quick Look at How We Got Here

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Appoints New Members to Central Florida Tourism Oversight District 3

The formation of the Central Florida Tourism Oversight District stems from a political clash that began in 2022. Previously, the Reedy Creek Improvement District granted Disney significant control over land use, infrastructure, and services on its massive Florida property. But tensions rose after Disney publicly opposed Florida’s Parental Rights in Education legislation. In response, Governor DeSantis and state lawmakers dismantled Reedy Creek, replacing it in early 2023 with the CFTOD through the passage of House Bill 9-B. The new structure greatly curbed Disney’s autonomy and handed the governor the authority to appoint all board members, transforming a 50-plus-year status quo.

Eyes on the Future

All eyes are now on the Florida Senate to see if the newest appointees will sail through their confirmation process. If approved, these three newcomers will play a significant role in guiding the district’s approach to tourism, development, and services in the theme-park heartland of the Sunshine State. Whether this will prompt any further clashes with Disney remains to be seen. One thing is certain: the CFTOD continues to evolve, and these appointments mark a fresh chapter in its ever-changing story.

“Goonies Never Say Die”: A Beloved ’80s Classic Edges Closer to a Sequel

If, like us, you’ve ever shouted “Hey, you guys!” at the top of your lungs, your moment of celebration may be here at last. According to reporting by Deadline, the long-rumored sequel to “The Goonies” finally seems to be gaining steam via the news that Potsy Ponciroli, the breakout writer-director of the Western “Old Henry,” has come aboard to pen the script for Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

A Dream Four Decades in the Making

Goonies 2 Officially in the Works With Steven Spielberg 1

For nearly 40 years, “The Goonies” has remained a cornerstone of ’80s pop culture. Directed by the late Richard Donner, produced by Steven Spielberg, and written by Chris Columbus, the 1985 adventure-comedy followed a tight-knit group of misfit friends — Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, and company — determined to save their homes from foreclosure. Their treasure hunt spanned underground caves, booby traps galore, and one villainous Fratelli family, all culminating in the discovery of a pirate ship laden with riches.

This childhood classic starred future heavy-hitters like Josh Brolin, Sean Astin, Corey Feldman, Martha Plimpton, and Ke Huy Quan (now an Oscar winner for “Everything Everywhere All at Once”). The film’s successful blend of humor, heart, and adventure helped cement it as a box-office hit and a cult favorite, leading to its selection for preservation in the National Film Registry by the Library of Congress in 2017. Despite decades of rumors about a sequel, the stars never quite aligned — and, in fact, some of the original cast seemed to doubt it would ever happen as recently as last year.

The Spark Behind the Scenes

Now, however, momentum is on the rise. With Ponciroli attached as the scriptwriter, there’s reason to believe this long-gestating project may finally reach the big screen. Ponciroli is quickly becoming a go-to filmmaker in Hollywood: after earning critical acclaim for “Old Henry” at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, he lined up a slew of projects, including “The Rescue” with Brandon Sklenar, and “Motor City,” starring Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, and Ben Foster.

Among his upcoming efforts is “Greedy People,” a crime comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James, and Himesh Patel, plus a variety of other films and shows in different stages of production. With that impressive track record, it’s no wonder Warner Bros. is looking to Ponciroli to take on the daunting task of reimagining “The Goonies” in a new era.

Who’s Holding the Map?

While Ponciroli is busy charting the sequel’s course, other key pieces are slowly falling into place behind the scenes. Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario will produce through Amblin Entertainment, with Chris Columbus (who wrote the original film’s screenplay) also involved, and Lauren Shuler Donner executive producing. A director hasn’t been announced yet, and no plot details have been released — so we can only dream about what form a new “Goonies” adventure might take.

The timing seems almost poetic. Just a couple of weeks ago, members of the beloved cast, including Ke Huy Quan, reunited at the TCL Chinese Theatres to celebrate Quan’s hand and foot imprint ceremony. Seeing them together again sent nostalgia soaring through fans worldwide and certainly stoked the sequel flames.

A Treasure Trove of Possibilities

Goonies 2 Officially in the Works With Steven Spielberg 3

What sort of treasure hunt could bring the Goonies back together after all these years? Could it be a fresh journey for a new generation, guided by the original gang? Or perhaps an intergenerational romp that sees old and new “Goonies” teaming up in pursuit of yet another hidden trove? With Spielberg and Columbus involved, you can bet the story will stay faithful to the spirit of the original — while introducing a new audience to the plucky kids (and adults) who never say die.

Regardless of how it unfolds, the simple fact that progress is happening is enough to light up the hearts of fans worldwide. After decades of false starts, rumors, and cautious optimism, “The Goonies” may soon be charting an exciting course toward its long-awaited sequel.

Stay Tuned

So, Goonies fans, keep your treasure maps at the ready and continue practicing your Truffle Shuffles — it appears the dream of a sequel lives on. Though details are scarce, one thing’s for sure: the spirit of adventure is alive and well, and we’re ready to set sail for one more wild ride with Mikey, Mouth, Data, Chunk, and hopefully the rest of the gang.

It’s been nearly four decades, but in the words of that timeless motto: Goonies never say die. And at long last, their big-screen return might be closer than ever.

Flower & Garden Topiaries Appear at Epcot

Epcot is transforming into a vibrant springtime spectacle as topiaries and decorations begin to arrive for the Flower and Garden Festival. Flowerbeds are being meticulously prepped and planted, promising a riot of color and fragrance.

Giant pink flower topiaries have been “planted” past Spaceship Earth. The whole planter is full of different colorful flowers.

World Showcase is full of different topiaries for the festival. In the China pavilion you can see three giant pandas. One looks as if it was rolling around in the planter, playing.

troll

In the Norway pavilion near the Royal Sommerhus Anna & Elsa meet and greet, you’ll find a “troll-piary”. The troll holds a stick with a lantern on the end and waves at passing guests with his other hand.

Beyond the topiaries already appearing throughout EPCOT, preparations for the Flower & Garden Festival are underway, with several flowerbeds being readied, notably near CommuniCore Hall. The flowers create a quilt-like pattern with different designs like a butterfly in one and a sunflower in another.

The EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival runs from March 5 through June 2, 2025! Will you be attending?

Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land Project May Begin Construction Soon

A recently obtained permit suggests that construction on the highly anticipated Disney Villains land at Magic Kingdom could commence as early as March 1st.

A permit uncovered by realtor Ken Pozek on a construction bidding site, titled “Disney Magic Kingdom Expansion – Villains Land,” suggests that construction on the new land could begin as early as March 1, 2025. The permit lists a budget between $25 million and $50 million, though this is likely only for initial work such as land clearing. The total cost of the project, including rides, shops, and other structures, is expected to reach hundreds of millions of dollars. The 14-acre expansion, a significant addition to the Magic Kingdom’s current 107 acres, will reportedly feature two major attractions, which the permit indicates will be a roller coaster and an indoor ride.

While a permit indicates a potential March 1st start date for the Villains Land construction, it’s important to note that work may not actually begin on that date, and visible progress might not be immediately apparent. This permit does not encompass the separate “Cars” expansion planned for Frontierland, which will also include two rides and impact the Rivers of America area, leading to the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat.

The Villains Land itself will be located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, also requiring some of the river’s space. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently undergoing an extended refurbishment, partly to prepare for the nearby construction. The permitting process can be complex; for example, Disney previously submitted plans regarding the Rivers of America space to the South Florida Water Management District and subsequently had to provide updates based on the District’s requests. Disney has already released a list of villains that will be featured in the new land.
