The final curtain is falling on Jellyrolls at Disney’s BoardWalk. Sources report the beloved bar will close its doors on Saturday, April 19, though official confirmation is still pending.

Jellyrolls, the dueling piano bar that has entertained Disney’s BoardWalk guests for almost thirty years, confirmed its closure on Instagram on February 1. Rumors of the closure had been circulating since October 2024.

The Instagram post reads:

“After nearly thirty years on Disney’s Boardwalk, Jellyrolls is making a move! Come celebrate with us into the spring season and keep your eyes on our social media for exciting new updates!”

While the bar will no longer be on Disney’s Boardwalk, it appears it’s just making a move to a new location.

Disney’s BoardWalk is in the midst of a multi-year transformation, with several venues closing to make way for new concepts. Following the closure of Jellyrolls, rumors suggest a jazz bar will take its place. Recent additions to the BoardWalk include BoardWalk Deli, BoardWalk Ice Cream, Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs, and The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers.

In a recent scheduling shuffle, Disney has postponed the highly anticipated Pixar film Elio by one week, moving its release from June 13 to June 20, 2025. Historically, Pixar titles have often rolled out closer to Father’s Day weekend, but this shift means Elio will now arrive opposite the adult-oriented zombie sequel 28 Years Later, rather than competing directly with Universal/DreamWorks’ live-action adaptation of How to Train Your Dragon.

Though this portion of the trail will be unavailable to guests, the rest of the Maharajah Jungle Trek will remain open, giving guests plenty of opportunities to spot creatures like Komodo dragons, gibbons, and of course, the park’s headline-making tigers.

Why the Maharajah Jungle Trek Is a Must-Do

Located in the Asia section of Disney’s Animal Kingdom, the Maharajah Jungle Trek offers a self-guided walking tour through lush forests, dramatic ruins, and immersive habitats. It’s become even more popular thanks to the debut of Bakso, a Sumatran tiger cub born in September 2024. According to reporting by Deadline, the long-rumored sequel to “The Goonies” finally seems to be gaining steam via the news that Potsy Ponciroli, the breakout writer-director of the Western “Old Henry,” has come aboard to pen the script for Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group.

A Dream Four Decades in the Making

For nearly 40 years, “The Goonies” has remained a cornerstone of ’80s pop culture. Now, however, momentum is on the rise. With Ponciroli attached as the scriptwriter, there’s reason to believe this long-gestating project may finally reach the big screen. Ponciroli is quickly becoming a go-to filmmaker in Hollywood: after earning critical acclaim for “Old Henry” at the 2021 Venice Film Festival, he lined up a slew of projects, including “The Rescue” with Brandon Sklenar, and “Motor City,” starring Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, and Ben Foster.

Among his upcoming efforts is “Greedy People,” a crime comedy starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Lily James, and Himesh Patel, plus a variety of other films and shows in different stages of production. With that impressive track record, it’s no wonder Warner Bros. is looking to Ponciroli to take on the daunting task of reimagining “The Goonies” in a new era.

Who’s Holding the Map?

While Ponciroli is busy charting the sequel’s course, other key pieces are slowly falling into place behind the scenes. Steven Spielberg, Kristie Macosko Krieger, and Holly Bario will produce through Amblin Entertainment, with Chris Columbus (who wrote the original film’s screenplay) also involved, and Lauren Shuler Donner executive producing. A director hasn’t been announced yet, and no plot details have been released — so we can only dream about what form a new “Goonies” adventure might take.

The timing seems almost poetic. Just a couple of weeks ago, members of the beloved cast, including Ke Huy Quan, reunited at the TCL Chinese Theatres to celebrate Quan’s hand and foot imprint ceremony. Flower & Garden Topiaries Appear at Epcot

Epcot is transforming into a vibrant springtime spectacle as topiaries and decorations begin to arrive for the Flower and Garden Festival. Whimsical character topiaries, from beloved Disney figures to playful animal creations, are popping up throughout the park, bringing a touch of magic to the floral displays. Flowerbeds are being meticulously prepped and planted, promising a riot of color and fragrance.

Giant pink flower topiaries have been “planted” past Spaceship Earth. The whole planter is full of different colorful flowers.

World Showcase is full of different topiaries for the festival. In the China pavilion you can see three giant pandas. One looks as if it was rolling around in the planter, playing.

In the Norway pavilion near the Royal Sommerhus Anna & Elsa meet and greet, you’ll find a “troll-piary”. The troll holds a stick with a lantern on the end and waves at passing guests with his other hand.

Beyond the topiaries already appearing throughout EPCOT, preparations for the Flower & Garden Festival are underway, with several flowerbeds being readied, notably near CommuniCore Hall. The flowers create a quilt-like pattern with different designs like a butterfly in one and a sunflower in another.

Disney Villains Land Construction Could Start as Early as Next Month in the Magic Kingdom

Magic Kingdom’s Villains Land Project May Begin Construction Soon

A recently obtained permit suggests that construction on the highly anticipated Disney Villains land at Magic Kingdom could commence as early as March 1st.

A permit uncovered by realtor Ken Pozek on a construction bidding site, titled “Disney Magic Kingdom Expansion – Villains Land,” suggests that construction on the new land could begin as early as March 1, 2025. The permit lists a budget between $25 million and $50 million, though this is likely only for initial work such as land clearing. The total cost of the project, including rides, shops, and other structures, is expected to reach hundreds of millions of dollars. The 14-acre expansion, a significant addition to the Magic Kingdom’s current 107 acres, will reportedly feature two major attractions, which the permit indicates will be a roller coaster and an indoor ride.

While a permit indicates a potential March 1st start date for the Villains Land construction, it’s important to note that work may not actually begin on that date, and visible progress might not be immediately apparent. This permit does not encompass the separate “Cars” expansion planned for Frontierland, which will also include two rides and impact the Rivers of America area, leading to the closure of Tom Sawyer Island and the Liberty Square Riverboat.

The Villains Land itself will be located behind Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, also requiring some of the river’s space. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is currently undergoing an extended refurbishment, partly to prepare for the nearby construction. The permitting process can be complex; for example, Disney previously submitted plans regarding the Rivers of America space to the South Florida Water Management District and subsequently had to provide updates based on the District’s requests. Disney has already released a list of villains that will be featured in the new land.
